Only the Lucky

Rate this book
I've protected senators, CEOs, and people who don't realize how dangerous their ambitions make them. I know how to read a room, spot a threat, and stay detached.

Alicia Morgan was never supposed to be a problem.

She's brilliant. Controlled. A crisis-management powerhouse who refuses to believe she needs protection—until a man turns up dead and the evidence points directly at her. When KOAN assigns me to her detail, the rules are keep her safe, keep her daughter safe, and don't cross lines that can't be uncrossed.

Living in her house makes that last rule harder by the day.

Alicia isn't reckless—she's guarded. She doesn't share everything. And the more time I spend watching her navigate a murder she didn't commit, a custody battle, and a life held together by sheer force of will, the clearer it becomes that the real risk isn't external. It's personal. It's emotional. It's the secrets people protect because they think they're harmless.

She trusts me to secure her home. She doesn't trust me with the truth.

The closer we get, the more I start to see what she's built—and what she's terrified to lose. A daughter who watches everything. A reputation that can shatter with one wrong headline. A strength that hides exhaustion I know too well.

I've spent my life staying one step removed. But Alicia makes distance impossible.

Because when the threat isn't obvious—when it wears familiar faces and hides behind routine—you don't just guard the perimeter. You guard the people you're falling for.

And sometimes, the most dangerous thing isn't the enemy watching from the shadows. It's what you're willing to risk when you finally stop pretending you don't care.

ONLY THE LUCKY is the fourth standalone novel in the Sinful State series, where protection turns personal, secrets cut deeper than any weapon, and jealousy proves just as deadly as a bullet. Step back into the world of KOAN Security in a romantic suspense thriller that proves the most dangerous threats are the ones closest to home.

Heart-pounding romance. Unforgettable heroes. Sizzling happily-ever-afters—with a side of suspense that'll keep you up way past bedtime.

I dreamed of being a writer as a kid but took the "safe" route: journalism degree, advertising career, MBA, corporate gigs at Chase and Universal. Then in 2020, I said screw it and published my first book. Twenty-five books later, I'm living the dream.

I'm also a mom to two teenage daughters who are perpetually mortified by my career choices. My husband's an entrepreneur whose latest product is Nampons (yes, it rhymes with tampons and yes, it's for nosebleeds). Between my spicy romance and his biz... we've cornered the market on parental embarrassment.

My books feature tough characters facing tougher choices, compelling suspense, and storylines that'll make you think. But no matter how dark things get, my people always choose love.

Only the Lucky is the fourth book in The Sinful State series, but this was my first one and I never felt lost jumping in here.

I really enjoyed the balance between the romance and the overall plot. Neither side took over the story, and the relationship had enough time to develop without everything else feeling like background noise. The age gap also felt believable and handled well. She’s 41, he’s 31, and it never felt forced or like the entire relationship was built around the age difference.

The characters were easy to like, and I completely bought the romance. I did see part of the story coming, but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment because I still liked how everything played out. The ending wrapped things up nicely, and I really enjoyed the extra epilogue. It gave me a little more time with the characters, making it even more wholesome.

Grace Noble and Sean Masters were both fantastic in duet. Their performances were immersive, fit the characters well, and made it even easier to get invested in the story.

I’d recommend it to listeners who enjoy age-gap romance, romantic suspense, believable chemistry, a good balance of plot and romance, and immersive duet narration.

Noah (31) & Alicia (41). He is a temporary security expert to this single mom who is in possible danger due to stuff that happened in the previous book.

The book is well written and has a nice pace, similar to the other ones of the series. Things got more interesting around 40% and there were some twists.

Noah is a golden retriever. Great guy, you can’t not like him. Alicia was ok although personally I’m not a fan; her past choices really bothered me.

I’m afraid I didn’t feel any real chemistry between them. It seemed to me that their attraction evolved suddenly, out of nowhere and especially Noah fell too fast, too hard.

-Dual 1st person POV
-Spice: 🌶️🌶️

Overall: 3.5/5 ⭐️ for me.

I received an Adv. Readers version of this book and I have given this honest and voluntary review.

Before I get into it, let me just say, if you like mysteries wrapped in suspense sprinkled liberally with sexual tension and a little bit of corporate espionage, then read Only the Lucky. Isabel Jolie has done it again - this is Book 4 of The Sinful State Series and it does not disappoint.

We are in DC and focus on the aftermath from Book 3 - though you do not need to have read any of the previous books in the series. (But, honestly, do it. You should just take the weekend off to read them.) Alicia Morgan will be testifying in a congressional investigation and KOAN believes she could be in danger. While the team is not usually a protective services group, her close friendship with Damian Moore means KOAN is pivoting to keep her and her 12 year old daughter safe. However, Alicia is resistant. Her job is in high-profile crisis management, and she keeps her life controlled and clean. She keeps her emotions locked down; her frustration with her ex-husband, her fear and love for her daughter Stella, her anger, her passion. Her business is controlling secrets exposed. Her secrets and emotions are as managed as her clients’ public crises. Having security following her around is unacceptable: for her image, for her clients, for the constant scrutiny from her ex.

But the threat could come from anywhere from anyone. Which means Noah Bennett is covering the night shift - living and working in Alicia’s basement guest room.

Noah, like so many KOAN operatives, is accomplished and more than he seems. At 31, he’s had an impressive career in the military, intelligent and focused. He is calm in a storm, focused and controlled. Alicia envies him - she sees his youth as an open field, so many choices ahead, while her life at 41 is full of management and control. But Noah sees the truth: her gorgeous home is a fishbowl exposed to danger, her practiced calm merely a facade. And as the threats begin to intensify - both physical and emotional - Alicia and Noah prove to be necessary to each other beyond the facade and beyond the job.

Listen, I need to learn my lesson, namely “Do not start an Isabel Jolie novel at bedtime”. Because I won’t be able to stop reading after a few chapters. Jolie’s ability to weave a mystery beyond “whodunnit” is addictive and impressive. The delicate web she creates is magic. These characters are charismatic, flawed, and magnetic. The intrigue layered in the story is not just the plot and the overall mystery but also in the character development. Watching two people who seem like they should not be in a room together connect and explore is as absorbing as the investigation KOAN has embarked on.

Plus, I love how Jolie integrates each sin into each book. Only the Lucky focuses on Jealousy. But not just the jealousy of wanting what we don’t have, but the envy of wanting the other person to NOT have it. These books wrap together entertainment, mystery, and philosophical pondering. KOAN is not just an organization investigating the bad guys above the law, it is the Zen Buddhist meditation aid, leading to spiritual awakening.

It’s why these books stay with me long after I finish them. It’s why I return to certain phrases that feel like true insight. It’s why I read Isabel Jolie’s books late into the night.

Thank you to the author for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This was yet another great book from Isabel Jolie. “Only The Lucky” is the fourth in her “Sinful State” series. This story features Noah and Alicia and they were a great couple.

Because of serious threats, Noah is assigned to protect Alicia and her young daughter. Being together in close quarters makes Noah fall for Alicia pretty quickly. But Alicia isn’t so sure. One of the reasons for her reticence is the difference in their ages. And this is where I truly adore this story.

Alicia is the older of the two, with Noah about a decade younger. I don’t mind age gap romances, but they do get tiresome, especially when the FMC is in her early twenties and the MMC is in his forties. Sigh. So kudos to Jolie for not just giving us a reverse age gap romance, but one in which both characters are past their twenties. What a lovely change of pace!

One thing Jolie doesn’t do is give the couple an easy HEA. She has written yet another fast-paced, exciting, emotional story that is so easy to get caught up in. There are twists and turns, bad guys and protectors, a well-crafted story and a romance that makes you swoon.

(And extra points to Jolie for writing a realistic younger character in Stella, Alicia’s daughter. Too often authors give us cutesy kids saying things that would never come out of a child’s mouth.)

I definitely recommend this one. I would like to add that, while this book can be read on its own, I would recommend picking up the other books in the series to get a fuller picture of the world the author has created.

Only the Lucky is intense, powerful, emotional, complex, and beautifully written! Noah is a man apart, having retired from the military and now working as a secure expert for KOAN. As we get to know him, we see a multitude of perspectives and how practical, calm, caring, and realistic he is. With a heart of gold and a hefty dose of emotional burdens, he shows up over and over for those who need him regardless of how they treat him. Alicia is brilliant but comes across as cold, controlling, frigid even, but don’t let that fool you. She is letting her fear rule the roost without realizing it, wearing narratives about who she should be and what a relationship should be that are colored by her own past hurts and mistakes. She is not perfect, and she is clearly blind to her own safety, but she is a great mom and her growth arc in this story is beautiful. Alicia and Noah are navigating a mine field of obstacles and mysteries, and the supporting characters that contribute to their journey are dynamic and amazingly written. The plot takes some fascinating and unexpected turns that keep us on our toes, sucking readers and listeners straight into this world of suspense, emotional turmoil, and what it means to show up, pay attention, and be present. The narrators performed the various roles fabulously, with intention and grace and emotional depth. I enjoyed every moment of this audiobook from start to finish, and the bonus epilogue is such a treat! This story can be enjoyed as a stand alone, but I highly recommend you check out the whole Sinful State series—each book is dynamic and powerful and so much fun to get lost in.

Only the Lucky by Isabel Jolie (Book 4 in The Sinful State series) on audiobook
I’ve listened to the whole series, and this book kept me hooked from start to finish. Noah and Alicia had great chemistry, but what I appreciated most was that there was a solid story behind their relationship. Their journey had plenty of emotional moments, and I found myself wanting to keep listening to see how everything would work out for them.
The audiobook was performed in duet by Grace Noble and Sean Masters, which made a huge difference for me. I love duet narration because the conversations feel so much more natural, and both narrators did a wonderful job bringing Noah and Alicia to life. Sean Masters really captured Noah’s emotions, while Grace Noble gave Alicia so much heart and personality.
What I loved about the characters:
❤️ Noah — Loyal, protective, and emotionally vulnerable beneath his tough exterior. He was easy to root for and wore his heart on his sleeve when it mattered most.
❤️ Alicia — Strong, resilient, and compassionate. I especially loved seeing her as a devoted mother—she always put her child first, and that added so much heart and depth to her character.
❤️ Together — Their chemistry felt natural, their relationship developed alongside a strong storyline, and watching them overcome challenges together made them impossible not to cheer for.
If you enjoy contemporary romance with plenty of tension, strong chemistry, and excellent narration, I’d definitely recommend giving Only the Lucky a listen.
Romance lovers, add this to your TBR

So good! Loved it!
This is book 4 in The Sinful State Series where single mum Alicia was mentioned briefly at the very end of book 3.
She has been warned that she may be in danger and a target to be silenced, so her best friend Dorian arranges for some KOAN operatives to be part of her protection detail.
She reluctantly agrees as she has the safety of her 12 year old daughter Stella to protect.
In enters Noah, ex army operative who takes his job very seriously.
He is gorgeous and muscular but 10 years younger than Alicia.
Keeping away from him is her only option however, the more time they spend together the closer they become, unable to stop the attraction that’s building between them.
Finding herself under investigation for a murder she did not commit Alicia’s life becomes complicated.
There are lies and secrets plus danger close by that needs to be dealt with.
Can Noah help her prove her innocence?
An enjoyable read that had me loving Alicia and Noah’s growing relationship whilst also trying to work out who was going after her and why.
I’m looking forward to more stories in this wonderful series.
I listened to the audiobook which was narrated in duet by Grace Noble and Sean Masters.
I really loved their performances, they had me feeling all sorts of emotions as the story went on, bringing the book to life.
Thank you to Isabel Jolie and Blue Nose Audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.

A suspense filled romance that will keep you glued to the book to see how it all plays out. I loved Noah's stoicism, patience, and protective instincts. Sophie (Alicia's daughter) is a spitfire and adds some lightness to the story. Alicia is a crisis PR specialist so some of her actions are a little surprising and a bit disappointing for someone who is positioned as a strong female character (she should know better than to think the secrets stay secret)... also her resistance to protection at the beginning feels misplaced, especially given that she has shared custody.

While I figured out the underlying "mystery" early on, I still enjoyed how it all came together, watching Alicia's walls crumble and Noah repeatedly show his strength of character, staying when others might have given up on her and calling her out for her actions when warranted, and meeting his family. A lot of little moments that build into more... even knowing who was behind the threat couldn't undermine the power of the story.

I listened to the audiobook, and it certainly helped that Noah was voiced by Sean Masters... so much swoon. I'd listen to him read a grocery list. But his growly, gravely deep voice is perfect for Noah. Grace Noble is a new narrator to me, but her voice captures Alicia quite well, too.

This is the first book I have read of this author. I have been following her and she's on my tbr pile. I was offered a chance to be an Arc reader for this book and decided to try it. I am very glad I did! This is the fourth book in her Sinful State series. I haven't read the previous books and it took me a minute to get straight what the whole premise was which happened in the previous book. But I was able to understand what happened previously with Alicia and her background. There was a suicide with a warning that Alicia was in danger. Which in turn caused Koan to put security in place, enter Noah Bennett. I really enjoyed his character, he was very strong willed and loyal. Alicia was a very control obsessed, single mother. He knew just how to handle Alicia and was great with Stella her daughter. The two sins portrayed in this book was envy and jealousy In many different situations. This made for a very compelling read. This book had depth many books are missing in today's world. I think Isabel Jolie definitely hit a homerun with this book! It kept me turning pages long after bed time! I definitely give it 5 stars! Now I'm going back to the beginning of this series for some binge reading! I also cannot wait for number 5!

Another absolutely captivating book from The Sinful State Series! Everything I've come to love about Izzy's books was on point from the romantic tension to the suspense and threats to the jealousy that proves to be more lethal than any weapon.

Noah is a decade younger than Alicia, but it doesn't stop the connection they have. I loved how Alicia attempted to fight it, because what could a younger guy be interested in a single mom like her for, right? Oh, but he is. And it is GLORIOUS! She's headstrong and dedicated to her independence, but in the same measure, Noah is protective and dedicated. Plus his connection with her daughter, Stella, adds to his appeal.

Her ex-husband and his girlfriend are absolutely a piece of work as individuals and a couple. Ugh. They were written perfectly to bring out my disdain for such awful people.

I have to be honest -- typically it's the suspense and intrigue that have me hooked more than the romance in Izzy's books. Don't get me wrong -- the romance is always GOOD. But this time? I felt like the romance fell perfectly in sync and added another layer that puts everything on the line. The key component of jealousy/envy really pulled these together. LOVED this book!

🎧 Audio Review 🎧

This is book 4 of the Sinful State series about Noah who is a member of the KOAN team and sent to protect Aisha, a crisis management CEO they believe to be under threat due to having to testify in a forthcoming congressional investigation.

I loved all the twists and turns which the author does so well, but I was put off by the female narrator who sounded really bored throughout the book and seemed to narrate it in one pitch. Sean Masters on the other hand was perfection as Noah!

I couldn’t understand why Aisha, for such a strong woman, put up with all the controlling cr*p from her ex. I appreciate that she had to have a relationship with him after their divorce for their daughter, Stella, who was a lovely character, but really …. ? I have to confess that I couldn’t relate to her at all.

It was nice to see a reverse age gap (10 years) romance for a change but I would have liked to have seen KOAN’s reaction when it came to light. Was he dismissed?

I really enjoyed the bonus epilogue which gave us an insight into their lives together, which was lovely, and look forward to reading the next book which hopefully will be about Gabriel?

Thank you Blue Nose Audio for allowing me to listen to this fun book.

Only the Lucky is the 4th book in The Sinful State series and while the romance between Noah and Alicia stands completely on its own, I highly recommed reading the previous book which introduces Alicia and adds more background to the situation she finds herself in. Noah is my favourite MMC in the series, the kind of person everyone wants in their corner: steadfast, loyal, strong-willed, with a sense of humor and humility that makes it easy to like him. That he's also a well-trained man who knows how to treat women of all ages doesn't hurt! Envy and jealousy are the two sins showcased in all their different forms here and the result is a page-turner with depth as well as rollercoaster twists-and-turns. I loved the secondary FMC Stella, Alicia's smart-as-a-whip daughter, who added another dimension, as did the dynamics of Noah's family. A truly exceptional read which I can't recommed highly enough. I was lucky to have received an advanced copy from the author and am leaving this review voluntarily and honestly.

Keeps you up at night

Only the Lucky is the fourth book in The Sinful State Series by Isabel Jolie. As with the previous books in this series this book is a knock-out with one punch. The story is perfection in it's beautiful and intricately woven form. I loved the reverse age-gap romance between Alicia Morgan and Noah Bennett. He is part of KOAN and has been assigned to protect her as she is getting ready to testify in a congressional investigation in Washington, DC. This means he has moved into her house, where she is a single parent to Stella. Alicia is a crisis management professional who ends up wrapped into something she never expected. This puts her in danger, with Stella being the most vulnerable point for her. Noah is strong, direct, professional and steady. He also falls for Alicia fast but she takes longer, fighting it because of their age difference. But in the end the heart wants what it wants and you just cannot deny it sometimes.

Jealousy In Extreme
A suicide with a warning causes KOAN to extend their security around Alicia Morgan also into the night. To make it not too pronounced it’s decided that Noah will take up residence in the guest quarters in her basement. When the man she had an affair with is murdered, she becomes a suspect.
A fast paced, thrilling story that kept me chained to my chair. A very charismatic MMC and an older, control addicted, single mom, who circle around each other because of their professional relationship. An amazing young daughter, who gives the story an extra dimension. The ‘bad guy’ is a bit of a surprise, that gives the book a different twist. Highly enjoyable <3 <3 <3
Why do women worry about being with a younger man? I don’t know, age is just a number!

Another great one from Isabel! Noah is sent by KOAN agency to protect Alisha, who helps high powered clients in crisis situations. She doesn’t see the need for protection until a man from her past is found dead and she’s the one who found him. Noah is living with her and her 12 year old daughter, who she shares custody with her ex-husband and his overbearing, girlfriend. As Noah and Alicia get closer, she fights it because he is 10 years younger, she relies on him more as evidence is pointing more to her and dealing with her controlling ex and his smug girlfriend. I loved the mystery of who was setting Alicia up and it proves what jealousy can make people resort to. All the Sinful State books have been so good, Isabel does a wonderful job keeping the readers intrigued, guessing and loving the strong characters she brings to life.

Only the Lucky is a true slow burn, quiet, steady, and deliberate. Alicia is precise and controlled, with both her life and career shaped by structure and discipline. Noah matches her in his own way, steady, decisive, and fiercely loyal.

But life rarely follows a perfect plan. When their paths cross and lives begin depending on Noah, he commits fully and refuses to let go.

Their attraction and chemistry build slowly and naturally, without fanfare, grounded instead in honesty, trust, and resilience. The danger surrounding them mirrors that same steady pace, carrying a constant catch-and-release tension that keeps you hooked.

Emotions of love, jealousy, guilt, and betrayal quietly lay the groundwork for danger they never saw coming. As the pieces slowly begin to fit together, you find yourself fully invested in the careful balance of romance, suspense, and family dynamics.

ARC Review: Only the Lucky by Isabel Jolie

If you love a protective MMC, bodyguard romance, forced proximity, and a little danger with your chemistry… add this to your TBR.

Alicia is a polished PR fixer who knows everyone’s secrets, which becomes a problem when knowing too much puts her in danger. Enter Noah Bennett — ex-Army Ranger, quiet, observant, protective, and now her live-in bodyguard. 🖤

I loved the slow-burn tension between these two. The chemistry was immediate, but the relationship build felt earned, and Noah’s bond with Alicia’s daughter completely melted me.

This one delivered suspense, steam, emotional moments, and characters I genuinely rooted for. Plus, while it’s book 4 in the series, it absolutely works as a standalone.

⭐️ Tropes:
• Bodyguard romance
• Forced proximity
• Protective MMC
• Slow-burn tension
• Suspense + steam

Spellbinding.

I really loved this.  Alicia and Noah's story was spellbinding.  Isabel wove a beautiful web with layers of tension, intrigue and suspense, matched by courage, tenderness and a magical and magnetic attraction between the main characters.  Alicia is a very strong and accomplished woman who keeps her life under tight control.  Noah brings a calm, quiet and unconditional steadfastness to Alicia's world, allowing her to relax her boundaries and rely on another person.  Their chemistry was scorching, and the connection between them was very moving.  A really wonderful addition to an exceptional series.  I can't wait for more.

I enjoyed reading this story as the storyline and it's twists and turns kept me engaged trying to work out what was relevant to the threat and the investigation and what wasn't. I liked seeing Alicia and Noah get to know each other whilst everything else was going on around them, the way they were able to be open about their feelings, fears, worries and doubts. I liked seeing how well they found a rhythm that worked for them, and the ease they had with each other that they respected each other and supported one another. I liked seeing the family they were starting to become and seeing them get their HEA.

Oh wow.... I loved this book!
With her friends being extra cautious, Alicia agrees to have protective security for 2 weeks.
Noah Bennett has been assigned the role as night security for Alicia, and it doesn't take long for her and her young daughter to worm their way into his heart!
Alicia doesn't know how a guy 10 years her junior could possibly be interested in an older single mum.
But feelings soon grow between them when the pressure mounts!
Fantastic storyline with wonderful characters and absolutely loved the HEA.

The fourth book in The Sinful States series features envy, with a plot arc that extends across the books. We have met these characters before—Alicia Morgan owns a successful crisis management company and is mother to preteen Stella. Following on from the previous book, Alicia has a possible threat against her and Noah Bennett is acting as her personal protection. I loved the issues they needed to navigate— watching them dance cautiously around each other, with client/professional roles, a preteen daughter in the house (& her dad and stepmom occasionally), FMC older than MMC. This book felt different, with an unknown threat simmering in the background to boost the tension.

This is my favorite book of the Sinful State series. Noah and Alicia have the type of connection that could be felt through the pages. The suspense was unmatched and on another level. There wasn’t a moment that I wasn’t completely involved in the storyline.

Noah and Alicia were both strong, independent characters who fought like hell for those they cared about. Alicia found comfort and support with Noah in the most emotional and beautiful way. The mystery embedded in this story was captivating and full of high-stakes tension. Noah’s loving and protective side grabbed at my heartstrings and did not let up.

Another magnificent creation by this author that fully drew me into the tale. Alicia is a very controlled woman who finds herself, albeit reluctantly, under the assigned protection of Noah from KOAN. The tension between them was heightened by their attraction to each other. I enjoyed the older ages and the reverse age gap vibe. Loved Stella-she was perfect. Amidst the romance, threats, danger, secrets unfold keeping you riveted. While this book can be read on its own, I would highly recommend picking up the other books in the series to get the full power of this series. Excellent read.

Book 4 of The Sinful State Series

'Only the Lucky is a dual-POV romantic suspense featuring an older woman/younger man dynamic, forced proximity, slow burn tension, a he-falls-first hero, and a mystery that keeps the stakes real throughout.'

The characters were very complex and complicated and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was solidly drawn and impressive. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

Enjoyable:
I did find the beginning to be a little slow and it mainly focused on the developing relationship between the main characters. It was only in the latter part of the book that things moved a little faster. I missed some of the intrigue and suspense that had been in the previous books, yet it was still an interesting and enjoyable read.
I liked Alicia and Noah as a couple despite their age gap and how they approached their relationship with maturity and little drama.

Only the Lucky was the perfect mix of romance, suspense, and emotional depth. From the very beginning, I was invested in Alicia and Noah’s story. Their chemistry was undeniable, but I loved that their relationship developed naturally instead of feeling rushed.

Even though this is part of a series, I never felt lost reading it as a standalone. If you enjoy bodyguard romances, forced proximity, protective heroes, and a story with both action and heart, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a try.

🖤 Protective MMC
🖤 Slow burn
🖤 Single mum romance

Audiobook: I was as entertained by this book as much as the others in the series. I was amazed by the complexities of the characters and the surprising twists which abounded throughout the story. I felt for Alicia Morgan as her world started to unravel. I liked Noah whose steadiness made him a perfect protector. I followed their love story with a breathless feeling in my heart. I appreciated the dual narrations provided by Grace Noble and Sean Masters as their performances brought the story to life. I was given an advanced listener's copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

Amazing! A fantastic romance in amongst the action and trauma.

With her own secrets she refuses to give away, Alicia gets assigned KOAN operative Noah to defend her and her daughter.

So much subterfuge and turmoil. Noah is a stand up guy and doesn't understand why Alicia doesn't trust him. But she had more than Betrayal behind her.

I enjoyed the dangerous aspects of the story. How they get on and the emotional as well as the physical issues they face.

Amazing story all round. Alicia and Noah work well together and the plot is compelling to read. Great work!!

A reluctant love affair - at least on her part. Alicia is a high power fixer whose life might be in danger. Noah works for KOAN and is assigned to protect her. She’s divorced and dealing with an ex with a strangely familiar girlfriend (you’ll have to read the book to find out) and an adorable 12 year old daughter. Oh, and he’s younger than she is. Still trying to figure out if she’s been targeted because of what she knows, strange things start happening. In the end, he keeps them safe and she lets go of the need to be in charge. Great book. Can’t wait to see who’s up next.

Noah is assigned to Alicia a woman accused of a death she didn't commit. He moves into her home to protect Alicia and her daughter, and it starts their thrilling journey that is suspenseful and filled with envy and jealousy that drew me into this compelling story from start to finish. Jolie's stories are well written and reads like you are watching it unfold right before you her style is masterful and the development of the story and characters is always a pleasure to unwrap and devour.
