One trudges along this crime mystery with hope but which never delivers. The book does give one an insight into the mindset of a ruling gora sahab/britisher and why non violence worked better for Indian struggle for independence. A little angle on how any system becomes to rot eventually with time and needs a change. How britisher led education in English is what eventually enabled the Bengali babus to get wiser and start asking for freedom. The language is quite visually descriptivr and puts the reader right there at the scene, looking at the buildings, feeling the heat and humidity smelling the smells with the protagonist. Surrender-not for Surendranath was a funny yet real angle. Apart from that nothing much to critique.
