A lyrical and mythic dark romantasy that fully embraces danger, devotion, and high stakes. FEARBOUND strikes a compelling balance between slow-burn emotional tension and escalating external conflict, allowing both the romance and the world to unfold with depth and intensity.
The prose is atmospheric and immersive without becoming overwhelming, creating a sense of ancient power and inevitability that lingers beyond the final page. The romantic arc develops through meaningful tension rather than convenience, and the emotional stakes feel just as sharp as the physical ones.
What stands out most is how seamlessly the danger shapes the love story—every choice carries weight, and nothing feels ornamental. The mythic tone, morally complex dynamics, and worldbuilding make this a standout for readers who enjoy dark fantasy romance with substance.
Highly recommended for fans of richly textured worlds, powerful emotional arcs, and love stories forged in shadow. A great start into a series.

I’ve just finished Fearbound (Realms of Penumbria) and I’m still trying to decide how I feel about it 🤣

The beginning really pulled me in. I loved the darker setting with the villages protected by the veil and the constant threat of demons — it felt quite immersive from the start. The FMC is primarily a healer rather than a fighter, I loved the slow reveals of her past in dreams. The dynamic with the MMC had a lot of tension early on, an instant attraction - which I really enjoyed.

There are some really strong ideas in this — the world, the magic, the lore all feel very well thought out, and it felt quite different to a lot of romantasy I’ve read recently.

I did find the second half a little harder to follow at times, just because there’s a lot happening quickly— reveals and battles close together. Also the book is third person so we don’t get that internal monologue to justify why a character behaves a specific way. I do feel like third person makes reveals and betrayals a lot more impactful though! The MMC is a bit more broody here, to be expected with his past and the FMC is struggling with grief from previous battles so the dark part of the romantasy comes out here.

And I won’t lie, the MMC did have a few frustrating “Why would you pick me” moments and others where he would just disappear but I do understand where that comes from with his character.

The ending also caught me slightly off guard — I wasn’t entirely sure how one part worked (still thinking about that 🤣), but it’s definitely set things up for what’s coming next. I’m sure mechanics of this will be explained further in book 2!

What I did really like is that it felt quite original. I didn’t feel like I could predict where it was going - this was refreshing, and I felt like I was figuring things out alongside the characters. Romantasy is beginning to feel a bit copy/paste with tropes and predictable endings — I definitely didn’t get that here.

Overall I’m very invested, and I’d be interested to see where the story goes in the next book.

Tropes/vibes:
– healer FMC / hidden magic
– demon, shadow wielding, blood drinking MMC (fear, tortured, morally grey)
– forbidden romance
– lost heir / memory loss
– prophecy & relic quest
– found family

Fearbound is the kind of dark romance that grabs you by the throat from page one and refuses to let go. The Author blends atmosphere, tension, and emotion with precision, every chapter tightens the grip, every reveal lands exactly where it should.
What makes this book shine are the characters. The MMC and FMC are layered, damaged and magnetic. Their dynamic is intense without ever feeling gratuitous, and the emotional undercurrent hits just as hard as the darker themes. I often found my eyes wet while reading with a gentle sadness/pity. The Author knows how to build chemistry that crackles, and she does it without relying on clichés. The other characters are well rounded and filled out, I cared about their stories just as much.
The worldbuilding is immersive and unique. The Plot is fast paced but never rushed and the writing itself is sharp, confident, and addictive.
I finished this book a few days ago and still find myself thinking about it, sometimes with a tear in my eye.
I look forward to re-reading this book before book 2 and again before book 3 which both come out this year.
If you love romance with teeth — the kind that blends vulnerability with brutality and still finds room for genuine connection — Fearbound delivers in full. It’s gripping, atmospheric, and emotionally charged in all the right ways. I highly recommend it.

I'm quite new to this genre of dark fantasy / romantasy, but this book is brilliant. I was hooked from beginning to the end. Literally couldn't put it down, cos you just want to know what happens next. Great characters from the main leading figures to the smallest sidekick, all very charismatic and well thought through.
I only can recommend this and can't wait for the second part to be published.

I love when dark romantasy actually feels dark, and this one delivers. The tension between the characters is incredible and the chemistry burns the entire time. Add in high stakes and a dangerous world and it’s really hard to put down. Waiting hard here for book 2.
