The stories are real.
Along with Addy and Einav, his closest companions, Marco enters the starship. Inside, he discovers the secrets of humanity's origin. And his own past.
Adventure calls. The stars beckon. But whatever drove humanity from Earth… might still be out there.

Is there a science fiction sub-genre encapsulating humans on a prehistoric seeming world where much of humanity's advancements have been lost where the humans mostly only communicate through aggressively insulting witty banter? Well if there is, this book is a poster child for that genre. Addy and Marco are an ageless action hero super-couple, owning a jungle filled with Nodosaurs, going about their lives when they encounter an evil shadow being. As self-declared exploration science fiction, a lot of effort has been expended in this story helping the reader to understand the jungle world on which it takes place. Arenson is really quite good at painting a picture of an otherworldly jungle world. Just enough comparisons to be familiar to us at the same time as being unique and different. Arenson is also quite talented at describing the shadow beasts and making them come out as quite horrifying. If this ever gets made into a movie they might have to get HR Giger to model the aliens to do them justice. This story is non-stop from the first pages. Our characters are going on a journey of finding and remembering. The story and mystery are interesting and really draw you in hoping to get some glimmer of understanding in the next page, each page.
No memories, no life among the stars, just existing day to day on the planet Nod. A few humans and our Methuselahs living a subsistence life on a rainy, moldy planet. Just surviving, no memories before Day Zero when all their memories were stolen. Nod - a planet with giant saurian wildlife, like dinosaurs of old - Nodasaurs, they called them. And the Unlit - creatures of shadow and pain - chasing Marco and Addy through the Nodian jungles. Einev ben Ari, the mystic presence in a cave on a hill, guiding the populace with the little memory she retained. Mostly instinct and muscle memory, they were the oldest and wisest of Nod's population. Seemingly ageless, they were shunned, centuries of living apart marking their differences. Running for their !ives, Marco, Addy and Einev hide in the catacombs and discover an old friend hiding in the dark. Marco, Addy, Einev and Joey, reunited and ready for battle! Great characters that we know so well, new plots and enemies to defeat, with a brand new storyline to save the Earth they'd abandoned centuries earlier. This is a great read!
"I have few answers and many questions," Einav said. "These are difficult riddles to contemplate, even for the very wise." “I have no idea."
A complex plot and intricate process of world building. Memory loss, strange longevity, an interesting SciFi Fantasy developed on a jungle planet that reminded me of the Amazon rainforest in its beauty and danger. The details are very well described, and it’s very fast paced with lots of action and funny moments. The main characters are fluid and engaging, although there were moments the female MC’s attitude just exasperated me. The bantering and continuous childish arguments got on my nerves sometimes, getting in the way but, it added a touch of humour to the storyline to an otherwise unsettling, unpleasant, shocking and dangerous episodes.
As a whole, I found this premise enthralling and exciting and very enjoyable. I will certainly read the sequel when it releases.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and my review is entirely voluntary.
On the quiet and peaceful planet of Nod we find Marco and Addy living in a small house in the Jungle, apart from Einav, unaware they were ever heroes of Earth. Ever since they caught the Jungle Fever, any previous memories seem to have been erased, coming back in bits and pieces. Odd, because the regular inhabitants of Nod didn’t seem to get those side effects.
Follow this past faced story as they reunite and finally discover who they were and discover who messed with their memories.
A new threat is near—similar—but not, and threatens not only their existence, but the inhabitants of Nod and Earth.
Another phenomenal series from Daniel Arenson. You won’t be putting this one down til you finish the book. Make some time.
A lighthearted romp. I found myself looking around for Shadows! this is a great book. With lots of action, and breadcrumbs dropped at just the right pace. I enjoyed the main characters, and their quest for understanding. Having said that, Addy, sometimes was a bit frustrating with her childishness. But I think that was there for comedic relief. There were a few inconsistencies, but they were minor. Although I haven’t read other books set in this universe, as prequels, I didn’t feel like I was lost, at all. I’m eagerly awaiting the next book. Note that there is some swearing. It’s not egregious, but it occurs regularly. I received a free copy of this book, with no obligation.
This story was a hoot. Marco and Addy are a hoot and entertaining to watch as they meet an enemy of shadow and try to figure out what is going on. Had me laughing and moaning through most of it. Witty banter, trouble, drama, and surprises kept things interesting and fun to read. I had to see what was going to happen next. Slowly as the story unfolds get to really know who Marco and Addy are along with them since they have no memories after surviving a fever which add to all the fun in the story. Enjoyed it and cannot wait to see what happens next.
Have always been a fan of J. Rosone. I stopped reading past series with these characters because of one. Probably just me but I have never liked people that yap incessantly about stupid things. This book had a great story line but it was ruined by Addie. I cannot connect someone that acts like a 7 year old with the serious issues that come up in these stories. Alas, I will have to stop reading this series as well. Too bad. It seems to have a decent storyline.
