She wasn’t supposed to stop running.

Bonnie survives by disappearing — new names, new towns, no attachments. Northreach was meant to be temporary. Quiet. Safe.

Then she met Max.

He notices too much. Watches too closely. And when he realises she’s lying, he doesn’t walk away — he steps closer.

Max doesn’t love recklessly. He doesn’t trust easily. But Bonnie is all sharp edges and haunted eyes, and something about her makes him want to break his own rules.

What he doesn’t understand is

Bonnie isn’t just running from her past.

She belongs to something darker. Something organised. Something that doesn’t forgive betrayal — and doesn’t let people leave.

When desire turns consuming and lines start to blur, walking away stops being simple.

Because loving Bonnie means choosing her over safety.

Over sanity.

Over survival.

And the men she’s trying to escape don’t lose control.

They take back what’s theirs.

Even if it means burning everything down.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

It was raw. It was emotional. It was everything. The way Max is so gentle towards Bonnie, understanding everything she’s forced to go through, and never pressuring her to speak about it or do anything. He’s just there to support. And the ending? That was very unexpected and I can’t wait for the next one!

Stop what you’re doing and read this if you love characters who make the wrong choices for the right reasons.

Ache by KL Benson is one of those stories that really stays with you. The characters are flawed, complex, and so easy to root for—even when you know they’re making the wrong decisions.

I loved how this book explores the gray areas of right and wrong, and how good intentions don’t always lead to good outcomes.

This was such an emotional, thought-provoking read, and I honestly couldn’t put it down.

Bingeable. If you like morally grey men- the kind who ask ‘who hurt you?’ You’ll like this book. Possessive. Protective. Emotional and layered 10/10
