I was lucky enough to receive a review copy of this from the author. Book one is one of my favorite books I have read this year. This book starts off right where book one ended at the end of the ball. The audiobook dual POV is fantastic. How could it not be with Anthony Palmini? This wasn’t quite as good as book 1 so I will say 4.75 stars and round up to 5. I give it that rating not because it’s a literary masterpiece, but because I enjoyed it enough to put off sleep to read and I would reread this book and series. The found family from book one gets extended. The humor scattered is such a breath of fresh air from my recent reads. The authors have managed to put all of my favorite tropes in this series and make them their own. Oh- and dire wolves! Fen is so much fun to read. “This is highly inefficient, he mutters. Wolves are not meant to be burdened with … squirming.”
While the ending wasn’t shocking to me, there were still some pleasant surprises from time to time. I’m so glad the next book has a release date for later this year. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Tropes- -One horse -One bed -Touch her and die -Let go on an adventure (trials were last book, so new trope. I’m not sure what the trope name actually is, but seems appropriate for a fantasy genre) -Love triangle (not who you would think based on book 1, and it’s actually entertaining) I will forever picture the hand gesture!
Thank you for the early read! It made for an enjoyable weekend!
This is a review of an advanced copy received from the author, so a HUGE thank you to Aria Ashbrook!
This is one of the best series I’ve read this year!! Web of Vows and Vengeance was amazing 5⭐️ and this second installment of the Hirathean Path is yet ANOTHER 5⭐️ read!!
As the winner of the gifting, Rose now has everything that she lost when her family was stripped. However, nothing feels the same and her happiness is fleeting. Kyor’s betrayal and her sister’s surprise pregnancy / marriage announcement, all push Rose into being unable to control the mysterious ice magic she still possesses. A shocking revelation from the priestess pushes her into finding answers by taking the Hirathean Path to the land of the Issen ❄️ Armed with her magic and her found family, along with some new additions, her adventure is ANYTHING but boring. Rose discovers not only her true self, but betrayals, secrets, corruption, and a love that’s inevitable ❤️

This story picks up right at the end of book one. It’s full of familiar faces along with some new ones. I loved the adventure. I loved the banter. I love the found family. I shed some tears. Some gasps were gusped.
I don’t know what I’ll do with myself until book three comes out, I need to know what happens NOW! Thank you to Aria Ashbrook for the gifted ARC!

After the dramatic end in book 1, this book picks up immediately, seamlessly from the previous one. Rose has achieved what she fought for, Rose has reclaimed her rightful place, reclaimed her life. She should be ecstatic. Instead, it's a distraught, disillusioned and distressed Rose we see emerge. A Rose who's never felt more alone. We're plunged straight into major feels, a trait I've come to identify as being Aria Ashbrook. These authors take a hot poker, place it over my heart, and keep it there, branding me, and I'm barely into this book when the first of many revelations hits me square in the guts! If I thought book one was mind-blowing, this one took me by storm, not letting up for a second. By the time I got to the end, my brain was frazzled and flying, all at the same time! Genius? Heck, that's too bland a word! Absolutely spellbinding!
"We are each the sum of our experiences. That every pain, loss - and yes instants of joy and love - shape us into the person we are." Rose's pain is deep, she feels the betrayal of Kyor, she cannot forgive him the lies, even though some things come to light as to why, she struggles to overcome it. When the shoe is on the other foot, when Kyor learns of HER omissions, HER betrayal, his love for her supercedes everything. A moment of pure terror, turns to a moment of incredible strength of character. So too does Rose discover, her internal strife is quieted. While she's processing a torrent of surprising, mind-blowing revelations, Rose heals too, through memory resurfacing, through recollections of the past and the acknowledgement of truths. But most importantly, she learns trust is a 2 way street. All whilst embarking on a perilous journey, the magnitude of her destination, her desperate need for answers, is, well, desperate. What she and her fellow travellers encounter is shattering! What she and they knew, they quickly learnt they didn't, who they encountered defied logic, what they encountered defied logic. With every step, her growth expands, her guilt expands, her magic grows and expands, which leaves more questions than answers.
Embarking on a journey where the outcome is very unknown, they wind their way through the slums and I simultaneously got tears in my eyes and goosepimples at the outpouring of affection and pride, ONE OF US rings loudly in my head. And then things get really complicated... Kyor complicated. But remember I said at the start of my review 'The first of many revelations'? Well... they pounded, attacking my heart with vigour almost in every chapter. Tightening around me like cage, squeezing all rational thought from my head, all I could do was simultaneously get an adrenaline rush, and bask in the excellence of these authors in sheer awe. That chapter, that scene at the river, my lordie and they just keep swinging!
Heck, these characters are phenomenal! Jonas is probably the most dubious of characters, or he was... the authors had him emerge from his cocoon, not a butterfly, but as someone much redeemed, and, dare I say, LIKEABLE??? Yep, the authors turned him into a proper nice guy, credibly. Kay? She has endearing moments but yes, she's a selfish brat. Kyor? Now he has more concealed within him than the archives in the Vatican! One thing is very evident though, his all encompassing love for Rose, and, although he's flawed, fallible, his aim is still to protect Rose, he's determined to win her trust back. My breath hitched when he said, 'We will never be done. We are as inevitable as the rising sun. When you understand, it will change everything. In the meantime, I will earn back your trust'.... melting socks and other items of clothing on me. His love for Rose, although complicated, is so pure, so real. ‘Oh Gods, you have no idea what you do to me. Rose, I am yours. You know that, right? I will always be yours.’ The emotions I experienced, OMG awesome, can FEEL Rose, I LOVE Rose!!! As I can Kyor, to my bone marrow! When Kyor tells Rose 😭🥹‘Whatever happens between us, I will see you spoiled for the rest of your life. I will feed you, keep you warm and safe. I never, ever, want to see you go without again.’ well frek, I just want to sob! Kyor is the most forgiving person, he's understanding and he's not rash, well, usually. He understands and forgives Rose and her hurts, he even understands and forgives Benny, which, quite frankly shows exactly how much control he has, over his emotions, over his desire, and I'm not only talking about his desire for Rose....
Benny is still one of my favourites, a true friend, a fierce supporter of Rose, always there for her. I so enjoy the humour the authors imbue into his character, he's got a quip at the ready, constantly surprisingly, cutting through the tension. I absolutely LOVE the lightness they infuse with the banter, as deadly and perilous as their situation and journey is, the back and forth between Kyor and Reuben is hilariously awesome. When Kyor and Reuben are at it, he says, ‘We should have snacks.’ Benny sighs mournfully. ‘That’s all this is missing. Snacks.’ The Reuben/Kyor dynamics are hilarious, especially when they feel compelled to do a.... body part measuring competition, which only made me love BOTH of them more! This small band of friends feel a kinship with one another, the support they display for each other, the lengths they're prepared to go for each other, warms the heart just as much as Reuben's hugs do, eliciting a heartfelt sigh from me. These are MY friends, MY family. The authors have imbued their special brand of magic right into my soul. They even gave me another to adore, who's a delight on 4 legs! His snark is hilarious, his heart is robust and his acknowledgement of his situation, sublime. There are a few new introductions, done, again, seamlessly and fittingly by the authors, enhancing every moment, elevating every nuance of this phenomenal read. I really loved Summer, she already shows her integrity and caring from the onset, already fiercely protective of Rose, even telling Rose, 'No one is ever nothing.’
Gods and goddesses who created the people who worship them are all too fickle, giving with one hand, taking with the other. Thessa and Stide are two who suffered greatly but heck, I wasn't sure what to make of them! The authors threw so many terrifying moments into the book, I wasn't sure I'd survive, let alone the cast in this magnificent read! Indeed, so many times it was touch and go, so many times they pulled the rug from under me, with each earthshattering revelation and occurrence. They kept the tension rife, heavy, like wadding through a field of geysers, never knowing which one was just bubbling quietly and which one would sprout a geyser. Immaculate, immersive storytelling. The ingenuity! Good heavens! Amazing! Truly amazing! Creatures I'd never seen, reactions and actions I'd never experienced, sucked all the moisture from my mouth. These authors, frek, I swear they had a magic wand, brandished so flipping effectively, so effortlessly, turning my guys into jelly, making me sob! You'll be crying too at this point, at THIS event, I couldn't even gather enough air to scream the NOOOOOOO out loud, dry mouth syndrome is a real thing.... And they, these oh so talented authors, go even further.... OMG OMG OMG! Fen...Elska... Kyor... Benny....Reuben... emotional, tumultuous, and oh so grippingly absorbing.
This complex tale, with complex characters, once more took over my entire existence. These authors have a magic formula, prose, characters, flip, EVERYTHING just makes this unputdownable. Both book 1 and this book, are easily my best reads of the decade. The pacing is flawless, the world building so sublime I was sucked into it's very fabric. This book, this series, is compulsive reading... addictive... A story that's all about acceptance, of growth, of hidden truths and a love that makes my heart flutter, my toes curl. I'll leave with these wise words by Dinah, ‘Because some truths attract attention.’ ‘And some powers do not forgive being noticed.’

⚡REVIEW⚡
Holy *Insert expletive here*. I CANNOT scream this loudly enough. Aria Ashbrook is as good a Romantasy writer as Sarah J Maas. As good as Rebecca Yarros. This series has me in the TIGHTEST vice grip and I am so desperate for the third book it is unreal. I would give this infinite stars if I could!
Picking up immediately after *that* ending in Web of Vows and Vengeance, Lady Rose Kultavaris, now the Gifted, is not prepared for the next shocks that come her way. Kyor appears to have a new woman. Kay reappears, married to someone you do not see coming. And someone presumed long gone resurfaces in the most shocking way. With Rose unable to control her ice magic, and it becoming more important with the resurfacing of ***, she makes a decision - she is going to take the Hirathean Path, and seek guidance from the Issen. Travelling with her are Benny, Ruben and Caroline (who have sworn a blood vow to keep ***'s identity secret) - along with Kyor who says he will accompany them so far before continuing his travels. Secrets, lies, internal politics, and unresolved feelings are a tantalising mix that lead to friction, fury, lust, magic, and fear. Add in an unexpected bond, and it all culminates in a journey that is unforgettable - with a cliffhanger that will leave you raging in the best possible way!
If you thought Rose was going to catch a break after being Gifted... You were sorely mistaken. This woman goes on another rollercoaster of being suckerpunched, then catching a little will-o'-the-wisp of joy, before taking another hit, and so on. And yet again, she handles it with grace and with bravery, and owns (most of) the mistakes she makes along the way. When it comes to Kyor though, not quite all of them. Those two make my heart skip with delight one moment, and put my fingers in front of my eyes the next. Secrets abound, and lies and omissions get found out... I am *itching* to see what comes next for them! The bond she forges in the latter stages of the book mend a little bit of a broken heart for someone else (I remain tight lipped but you will be as joyful as I was when I read it!) and there are question marks over the abilities within that bond to be explored, which again, I'm desperate to see!
I was so VERY mad at Kyor when WoVaV ended. And this book starts with a similar sentiment. But when he inserts himself (and Elska of course) into Rose's quest, you secretly love his arrogance again. Their chemistry is so hot that it sizzles off the page, and you know when she agrees to let him train her again like he did when they were Rettlings, that they're not done. It is clear that both of them are keeping secrets, though of course we are privy to Rose's - and there is no doubt these will cause more turmoil for them both. He says to her that they are "inevitable". And I 100% believe they are. They just have a hell of a lot more to go through before they get their happy ending! And King Korvane can get in the bin. Sharpish.
This book benefits from a smaller supporting cast, who all bring their own thing to the story. I was so happy to see Benny again, who I adored from WoVaV. It was a joy to see Caroline brought into her own, away from just being Llinos' girlfriend - she is a faithful companion to all of them travelling but especially Rose. Ruben (the walking radiator) is given a much more expanded role and I think will have a much bigger part to play in this series than I could have ever predicted.
The horrors of the trials are equalled in this novel, with formidable foes in the Rottings and the Myrkr, plus the Torailians, and the Issen. Fearsome plants, killer mire below a river... There is a LOT of danger on this journey. And it is written so visually, so vividly, that it feels like you are watching the most epic of Romantasy films whilst reading. I can pay no higher compliment than that.
Vows of Blood and Deception is so good that it pained me to finish it. I eked out those last chapters as slowly as I could, whilst at the same time being desperate to keep turning pages. It's like savouring your Christmas presents, taking your time to unwrap. Not all Romantasy novels are created equal, and not all sequel novels match up to the magnificence of the first... But Vows of Blood and Deception manages to eclipse it's predecessor. Aria Ashbrook is on a roll, and when book two is better than the first, it's always a good omen that what is left to come will be spectacular. Can I have #3 now please?
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review this book!
Vows of Blood and Deception by Aria Ashbrook takes everything that made the first book addictive—the tension, the betrayals, the simmering romance, the political scheming and cranks it up until it feels like the story is one bad decision away from bursting into flames. The result is a sequel that somehow manages to be both emotionally devastating and impossible to put down.
This book lives in that deliciously painful space where victories don’t feel like victories, trust is a luxury nobody can afford and every new answer seems to create three new questions. The character development is one of its strongest points; everyone feels more layered, more damaged and far more dangerous than before. Relationships are pushed to their limits, loyalties are constantly tested and the emotional stakes hit just as hard as the fantasy ones.
The romance is a masterclass in frustration, in the best possible way. The chemistry is electric, the tension is relentless and every interaction feels loaded with history, resentment, longing or all three at once. If you enjoy enemies to lovers that actually earn the “enemies” part, this series continues to deliver.
What impressed me most was how much larger the world feels in this installment. The story expands beyond the immediate conflicts of book one and digs deeper into the secrets, power struggles and hidden agendas shaping everything behind the scenes. Every revelation feels carefully placed and just when you think you’ve figured something out, the book gleefully pulls the rug out from under you.
And then there’s that ending.
I won’t spoil a single thing, but I will say this: the final chapters feel like being pushed toward the edge of a cliff while the author stands behind you asking if you’re enjoying the view. The tension keeps building, the stakes keep rising and then suddenly you’re staring at the last page wondering how it’s legal to end a book there.
Vows of Blood and Deception is darker, messier, more emotional and even more addictive than its predecessor. It’s the kind of sequel that leaves you simultaneously thrilled, devastated, and desperately checking the calendar for the next release. One minute you’re happily reading, the next you’re questioning your life choices because you willingly walked into another Aria Ashbrook emotional ambush.
Five stars. No notes. Except perhaps a strongly worded letter regarding that cliffhanger 😭
Wow! What a fantastic second book and continuation of The Hirathean Path series! I devoured it in just a few days and couldn’t put it down! It picks up right where we left off, with Rose getting her magic and wealth back after the Retterheld, and from there the story takes some fascinating twists and turns.
I absolutely love the world and group of characters that Aria Ashbrook has created. In Vows of Blood and Deception, the world building expands, and we get to explore and learn more about the different territories. I especially enjoyed learning more about Rose’s family history, and I was thrilled to finally get answers to some of the questions left from the previous book. This installment felt more like a quest, and I loved the journey and character growth that came with it.
Rose is still one of my favorite FMCs. She is strong, resilient, and compassionate. In this book, she struggles with feelings of betrayal and anger, but she doesn’t let them keep her down. She will do anything to keep her friends and family safe, no matter the cost. Her relationship with Kyor is filled with delicious tension due to their history and old wounds. I absolutely loved the banter between them.
The found family continues to be one of my favorite aspects of this series, and the new characters we meet are a great addition. Benny is still one of my favorites, and I loved the introduction of Fen. He has quickly become a new favorite as well.
I did an immersive read of Vows of Blood and Deception, and it was phenomenal! The duet narration by Amanda Leigh Cobb and Anthony Palmini was fantastic. They did an excellent job bringing these characters and this story to life once again.
The ending of this book left me absolutely shook, and I need answers immediately!
Overall, I loved it! Vows of Blood and Deception was the perfect continuation of the series and it will leave you obsessed and craving more.
If you love enemies to lovers, second chance tension, court intrigue, banter, expanding world building, found family, secrets, and shocking revelations, then add this book to your TBR!
Thank you to Aria Ashbrook and her team for providing an ARC and ALC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
THE CLIFFHANGER?! Nooooo, I need to know more now! I wish every book in this series was out already so I could dive in and not stop until I read every word! I honestly don’t even know how to write this review without spoilers, but I will do my best!
Where do I begin?! I’ll start with where we left off in book one and the journey to now. Book one left us with happiness for Rose’s triumph and becoming the Gifted. We also end off with the bombshell her sister drops and what all it entails. Book two we pick up right afterwards, Rose has her powers, their home, and getting to see familiar faces. Now this is where I will be more vague as to not spoil anything…. Let’s just say there is another big bombshell dropped that sets the trajectory of this book. With the bombshell comes Rose having to go on a journey to seek help and answers; thankfully, she doesn’t do it alone. Throughout the book, this crew faces immense challenges and life or death experiences. My heart and jaw dropped more than once while reading. And to round out this grand adventure, we are left on an even bigger cliffhanger than book one! Along with all the questions and “what ifs” accumulated along the way! I loved it so much!
Now, I mentioned Rose not going at this story alone. I will say you see Benny, Caz, and Kyor again, that does not feel too spoilery for this story. Another thing that comes along with seeing these faces, is the tension that continues to brew and bust at the seems between Kyor and Rose. It’s utterly amazing! I absolutely love their tension and banter that only continues to get better and better. I will avoid saying who and what we meet along this book, but I must say there are a few characters that I have fallen in love with in this book and want them to make it to the end! There are two in particular that I have grown fond of and hope no harm comes to them!
I really am enjoying this entire series and cannot wait for more! I believe the world building, storytelling, and structure are very well done. I was entertained throughout the entirety of this book, even the “slow” parts because they elevated the story and gave us more to the characters and/or plot. I highly recommend the read!
Book 2 picks up immediately where we left off (and I cannot express how much I appreciate this after THAT ending!) We faceplant directly into the feels, the heartache, the delicious drama. Immediately Aria Ashbrook hits us with a reveal none of you are ready for…(I mean I physical put the book down with my mouth hanging open shouted *colorful curse words* and had my 3 dogs look at me in concern…) and this dear readers is where our quest begins.
If you thought our girl Rose had it bad in the slums, this book makes that life seem easy. The twists and turns keep coming. Reveal after wild reveal, Rose keeps taking blows. I admit there are some I saw coming or at least had suspicions about…but the suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat. The pages kept turning and the plot kept flowing, and before I knew it I was at the end of the book…and yes my friends, the NEXT big reveal/cliffhanger 😆🤪
I absolutely adore the writing style of Aria Ashbrook. Visual & vivid battle scenes, bitter and brutal terrain, and equal parts angst, yearning, and pain between couples and friends alike! A book that I can devour the way I did and am left hungry for more!
With time against them, trust a fragile thing, and threats from all sides, Rose and her friends must find a solution to controlling her newfound ice powers before it’s too late! We now follow a more intimate group in book 2: Rose, Benny, Ruben, Caz, Kyor, 2 new friends, and one old 😉 This book introduces us to unique type of dangers outside of the trials and I love that! Based on what Rose and her friends thought were only myths used to frighten children now appear to be real threats to them and their party. Rottings, the Sannthral, Vätte, Myrkr, not to mention the treacherous terrain working against them as they travel north in search of the Issen and answers to Rose’s questions.
Action packed with all of the best tropes, Vow of Blood and Deception was an absolute perfect follow up to Web of Vows and Vengeance. Thank you so much Aria Ashbrook for my physical ARC. I treasurek it greatly and I cannot wait for book 3. I will be crying internally until then!
Vows of Blood and Deception is the second book in The Hirathean Path series. It picks up right where we left off in WoVaV, with Rose having won the Retterheld, received the Goddess’s blessing, and being summarily rejected by Kyor in front of his father. Her sister is pregnant and engaged to Artur Lorathin.
While trying to recover from her rejection by Kyor, she movs into her family’s old estate, bringing her sister and Benny to stay with her. This is where dark family secrets begin unraveling. When Rose learns a secret that put her whole family in danger of execution, she sets off on a journey in hopes of convincing the Issen to train her in her forbidden ice magic. Luckily, she has her friends to join her.
While book one was centered on the trials of the Retterheld, book two expands the world of the Realms of Morathka. While our characters travel north, they learn that not all bedtime-story monsters are quite as mythical as they believed.
Throughout this book I frequently compared Rose’s adventure to Odysseus’s. It seemed like everywhere she turned there were new monsters to fight, new temptations to conquer (or not :) ), and new powers to harness. While there is much we learned about the Realm and saw relationships altering, there is still so much mystery and our favorite lightning-wielding Prince is holding secrets of his own.
As for romance? We may have been left with a breakup hangover in book one, but that doesn’t mean book two is chaste! I gave this a 2-3 chili rating.
Getting to the end of this book, I was nervous about a big cliffhanger, but I was actually really happy with the ending. It perfectly sets up the second half of this series and I am so so grateful for the wonderful authors of this epic tale to be releasing book three in just a few months. Plus the audiobook is great!
Thank you to Aria Ashbrook for allowing me to read this early edition. Five stars.
I was lucky enough to receive an eARC as part of @ariaashbrookauthor street team, and honestly, I’m so grateful because I was dying to know what happened next after that ending! It also helps that I listened to the audiobook, narrated by my all-time favorite male narrator, @antpalmini and the phenomenal @amandaleighcobbnarrator
One thing I have to get off my chest: I cannot stand the little sister. After everything Rose has sacrificed and endured for her family, her sister’s attitude drove me absolutely crazy. Despite that frustration, Rose’s determination to survive, protect those she loves, and build a better future remains one of the strongest aspects of her character.
I also loved seeing the relationships continue to grow and evolve in this installment. Characters who started as side characters become increasingly important, expanding Rose’s found family in meaningful ways. As they embark on a mission to uncover the truth behind Rose’s mysterious new powers, the bonds between the group deepen, making every victory and setback hit even harder.
And can we talk about Rose and Kyor? The constant push and pull between lovers, enemies, lovers again, and somewhere in between is absolutely addictive. Their chemistry leaps off the page, and every interaction had me desperate to keep reading. I genuinely cannot get enough of these two.
This book expands the world, raises the stakes, and leaves me eagerly waiting for whatever comes next.
And that ending? Buckle up. Aria Ashbrook once again leaves readers desperately crying out for more. Just when you think you might get some answers, she delivers another ending that has you immediately needing the next book in your hands.
If you’ve been following this series, prepare yourself-because this installment delivers!
Vows of Blood and Deception somehow managed to make me even more obsessed with this series, and honestly, I didn't think that was possible after book one <>.
Rose's journey was one of my favorite parts of the book. Even when I could see where parts of her storyline were headed, watching her slowly find herself, come into her power, and figure out who she is and who she wants to be outside of everyone else's expectations was incredible.
The journey along the Hirathean Path gave me major Road of Bones vibes, and I mean that as the highest compliment. The trials, obstacles, and discoveries along the way were so well written that I never wanted to put my headphones down.
And can we talk about the found family? Y'all know I'm feral for a found family, and this one is the absolute best I've ever read. These characters genuinely feel like they belong together, and every interaction made me love them more. Benny remains one of my favorites and deserves all the love. Ruben being back in action was everything I wanted. I can't wait to see where his storyline leads because I really like this dude...and I would love a warm hug from him IYKYK.
As for Kay...girl! You are giving major Nesta vibes right now, and I am struggling. She needs to do better as a sister because Rose deserves so much more. On that note. Jonas. GD JONAS!! I have no words.
The romance continues to be frustrating and addicting in all the best ways. The tension, the betrayals, the yearning - it all works. Especially with Benny's triangle hands LOL
Then there's the ending. Absolute banger. Yes, it's a cliffhanger. Yes, I immediately wanted to scream into the void. And yes, I am now desperately yearning for book three.
This series just keeps getting better, and I can't wait to see where Rose, Caroline, Kyor, Benny, Ruben, and the rest of my favorite family go next.
SIDENOTE: The audio is top-tier. Amanda Leigh Cobb and Anthony Palmini are a vocal match made in HEAVEN.
Vows of Blood and Deception completely consumed me. Between the stunning physical book and the fantastic audiobook, I flew through all 544 pages and 18+ hours far faster than I expected.
Picking up immediately after the events of book one, Rose has finally reclaimed her magic, her title, and her place in the world. She should be celebrating, but instead she's left trying to figure out who she is now that the fight is over. Or at least, the fight she thought mattered.
One of my favorite things about this sequel was how much bigger the world became. Book one laid the foundation, but this book expands everything. New allies, new enemies, buried secrets, and shocking revelations constantly raise the stakes and keep the story moving.
Rose continues to be a standout heroine. She's angry, hurt, and struggling to find her footing, which made her journey feel incredibly real. Her return to the slums was one of the most emotional moments in the book and perfectly highlighted how much she's changed.
The relationship between Rose and Kyor remains one of the strongest parts of the series. Their history, lingering wounds, and complicated feelings create a tension that feels authentic and messy in the best way.
Despite its length, this book never felt slow. The pacing is fast, the action is frequent, and something important is always happening. While some questions are answered, Aria Ashbrook leaves readers with plenty of new ones and an ending that made me immediately need book three.
If you love slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance, court intrigue, expanding fantasy worlds, and characters who are forced to confront uncomfortable truths, this series continues to deliver.
After the heartbreaking events of Web of Vows and Vengeance, Rose is trying to piece herself back together after Prince Kyor chose his crown over her. Though she has been restored to her family’s former status, she feels more alone than ever. Her relationship with her stubborn and angry sister, Kay, remains strained, and Rose is left grappling with mysterious powers she never wanted and barely understands.
As Rose sets out to learn how to control her abilities, she embarks on a dangerous journey filled with new lands, unexpected revelations, and plenty of peril. Along the way, she begins to discover not only the truth about herself but also the importance of embracing both the family she was born into and the found family that has become her home.
I absolutely adored this book! Vows of Blood and Deception was such a fun, adventurous ride that had me completely hooked from beginning to end. There was danger, magic, shocking discoveries, and so many moments that made me desperately want to keep turning pages.
The found family in this series continues to be absolutely top tier. I loved every interaction, every bit of banter, and all of the delicious tension and longing woven throughout the story. And Kyor? He once again proved why he’s one of my all-time favorite book boyfriends. I still adore him. Rose also remains one of my favorite fantasy heroines. She is fierce, resilient, and an absolute badass while still being wonderfully vulnerable and human. This book left me even more invested in these characters, and I am already counting down the days until book three, Blood of Truth and Traitors, releases later this year!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This series is my absolute favorite I’ve read this year!!! I absolutely LOVED Web of Vows and Vengeance, and book 2 has just deepened my obsession with these characters. I have been on Patreon every morning to read one chapter each day, so when I received the ARC to this book this evening I started it immediately.
We pickup right where we left off, we do not start off slow whatsoever. There is reveal early that will have you shook! Rose discovers so much she didn’t know early on and embarks on a journey to learn more about her powers, to not only learn to control, but to save THOSE she’s loves most. I could not be more excited to have Reuben back in Rose’s life, along with Benny and Caz. Benny continues to be one of my favorite characters.
This journey is wild, fast paced, with even more reveals throughout. The banter on this trip had me so entertained! The tension between Rose and Kyor continues, with Kyor trying to win her trust back. While they try to be honest with one another, they each still hold secrets they’re unable to share. The love between them is undeniable though, and I root so hard for them! Kyor is faced with eye-opening realizations that turn everything he thought he knew upside down. The ending is jaw dropping and had me ready to dive straight into book 3, which I will be impatiently waiting for on Patreon. ;)
This was ENTHRALLING, and I couldn’t put it down!!! Not enough thank you’s for this ARC and this beautifully written story! 6 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Vows of Blood and Deception by Aria Ashbrook absolutely blew me away, and I’m genuinely shocked these authors haven’t been picked up by a traditional publisher yet. This series has easily become one of my favorites of the year. I’ll admit, the book started a little slow for me. But once it found its rhythm, it completely took off, so much so that you’ll want to buckle up because the ride is intense, emotional, and impossible to put down. What truly stood out was the character development. The relationships feel layered and real, with just the right amount of tension to keep things interesting, even after you think certain dynamics are already established. And yes, I have to say it: I am firmly Team Reuben. Kyor? Not a fan. I find him insufferable, and I’m really hoping book three takes things in the direction I’m rooting for. The expansion of the world and the introduction of new adversaries added so much depth. At times, it gave me strong Game of Thrones vibes, especially in the way the stakes continue to rise and no one ever feels completely safe. While the ending wasn’t entirely unpredictable, it still packed enough punch to leave me genuinely stunned, and desperate for more. I’m both excited and a little heartbroken heading into the final installment because I’m not ready to say goodbye to this world. This book is a must-read for fantasy romance lovers who crave rich character dynamics, political intrigue, and emotional payoff.
4.75☆ honestly wow!! this story picks up right where book 1 left off and you’re reminded of the rage, betrayal, and broken hearts. i remember screaming at the end of WOVAV and i kept screaming throughout this one. and just when you think your emotions couldn’t be more damaged… buckle up
sequels are notorious for feeling like filler books, but this was not one at all. there was amazing world expansion, insane character arcs (some that i genuinely wasn’t expecting), of course top tier romance, magic that was so fun to wrap my head around, and the cliffhanger of a lifetime (these authors are so good at leaving me wanting more)!!!
i’m very much a character driven story type of reader so obviously these characters with complex backstories and emotions were my favorite part. the connection between rose and kyor is unbeatable, but their continuous journey is so heartbreaking. that man is obsessed with her and i ate it up. even the side characters were so impactful. i’m curious how some people are going to feel about… certain events with certain people……….. (i loved it tho 🤭)
& the ending made me so excited for the next installment. there was a lot that happened in this book and i have a lot of new questions that i desperately need answered.
as always, pls get the audiobook because it’s done so incredibly well! & and huge thank you to aria ashbrook for being kind enough to send me an arc of this book!
An absolute mind-blowing hefty reading feast I devoured in less than 2 days, unable to put it down. The world building and creative wordbuilding were phenomenal. Rose thought having her magic, etc and Kay out of the slums will bring happiness, but it's not to be yet. She's still reeling from Kyor choosing the crown over her plus her Issen magic is uncontrollable. Kay's problem is solved by Jonas, but then he revealed the big secret the Goddess Etta told him to share with the sisters. Going to Priestess Dinah to get answers about her Issen magic, only to hear it was inherited from her mother. Some many secrets and twists that will gnaw your insides away. There's only one way forward, a dangerous deadly journey on the Hirathean Path to the Issen. Rosen, Benny, Ruben and Caz barely started the journey when Kyor rocked up with Elska. There's so much to tell about the trials and tribulations on this journey, but I will only share a tiny bit more. Expect brutal fights, the dynamics between Kyor and Rose intensified, changed interactions within the team, interesting new powers developed within Rose and new characters though I have to touch on rescuing Fen. That had me shrieking with delight. The end left me in awe and screaming for more!! I can't wait to read the next sequel. I received an advanced review copy and leave this review voluntary Thank you Aria
If you haven’t read the first book, I shan't spoil the ending but let's just say that we start off right where we finished.
Lady Rose Kultavaris is really going through it with her sister's surprises and the BETRAYAL which shall not be spoiled here...let's just say there will be war! Also for those of you who have been reading this series, Kay remains spoilt as ever though we do have a few tender moments. I will say, we are getting a deep dive into character motivations now and even dare I say, a few redemption arcs.
We all need a Benny in our lives to make difficult situations light hearted. Honestly, her entire friend group are just so trustworthy and supportive which for me was the main revelation of how important it is to have a strong support system. Kyor and Rose' relationship feels secondary to the love between friends and I really respect that because it shows that romantic interest is not the be all and end all.
Talking about Kyor though, as much as I love him he is a hot headed mess and I want him to join a rebellion so bad! Like mate, you hate your dad, just go for it. Kill him!!!!! Okay, I git a bit carried away there, I'm deep in the feels right now and am still revelling in that ending because what do you mean!!!??? I'm so excited to see what happens next for Rose. I'm actually obsessed with this series 😍 that's it, this is my number 1 Book of the YEAR.
Oh my gosh! Let me start by saying I’ve read both kindle edition and the audiobook. So before I get into the book itself, I just want to say that the narrator, top-notch. Now onto the actual story itself. From the moment the book began within three chapters, we were plunged into more unsettling, revelations that were both amazing and terrifying. Rose is reclaiming her spot as a member of the High court only to have road block after block thrust in front of her that she has to figure out how to maneuver around. Between her sister and other family she is dealt blow after blow, some good, some bad, some both. She carries the burdens of all those around her. However, though she may stagger at the weight, she never falls. Rose is one of the strongest female main characters I have ever read. When she must embark on a dangerous journey to discover truth to keep those she loves safe her love and loyalty are unfaltering. The friendships and bonds that grow and blossom are beautiful and the things she discovers about herself her mind blowing. I did anticipate the ending, but was extremely excited that I did. I’m terrified and excited to see what comes next for Rose, Kyor, and all of their friends in the next book! This is easily going to be one of my top reads this year!
If you’ve been thinking of reading this series. Do it.
After the way things left off in book one, my mind was reeling at all the possibilities, every way that things could be resolved. Nothing could have prepared me for the sharp turn things took. Though I’m happy to say some of my theories were vindicated!!!!!!!!
VINDICATION!!!!!!
Anyway, onwards. Everything seemed dire ;) at the end of book one, and it continues to be so in this book. Rose must journey away from the riches she has found. And omg if it’s not one hell of a journey. Due to *circumstances* she cannot delay and so this book is fast paced and cutthroat. But beautifully laced with banter to cut the tension before the storm. Ahem.
So many things come to light in this instalment, I’m wonderfully satisfied, but of course new questions and theories arise after the ending.
This is deliciously tense, beautifully written fantasy. The found family continues on, and even grows stronger, with even more growth and sacrifice. I don’t think I’ll ever stop thinking about this series!
Thank you eternally to the author (s) for the early copy, all thoughts are my own.

This book was such a fun time! I had a great time with the first book, but the way the world expanded in this book, the adventure we got to go on, and the new characters we got to meet made this book incredible! I also loved the expanded magic and how much of the magic system we got to see this book, especially as Rose learned about what powers she now has! It was also so refreshing to see her continue to come into her own and get more and more confident throughout this book.
I was smiling so hard at the ending because I was not expecting that at all! No that ending was so good! BUT WHAT DO YOU MEAN THATS HOW WE’RE LEFT UNTIL THE NEXT BOOK?!!
I need to know what secrets Kyor is hoarding, because while Rose might have gotten over his betrayal from book 1, I have not! He still has some explaining and some groveling to do and I hope we get to see that in book 3!
I also love the writing style of the authors so much, and book 2 has confirmed that for me! They have the best one-liners for these characters, the banter is everything, and the way they write these characters makes it so easy to connect with each of them! I genuinely can’t wait for the next book!
😱 My sleep schedule didn't survive this book, and honestly, neither did my emotions.
I absolutely love this series. This installment only deepened my obsession. Aria Ashbrook has created a captivating world filled with intricate plotting, compelling characters, and a storyline that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. One of my favorite aspects of this series is how relatable the characters are. Their emotions, struggles, and growth feel genuine, making it easy to become invested. The writing flows, keeping the pages turning while constantly leaving you wanting more. I especially loved learning more about Rose's family history in this book. So many questions I'd been carrying from the previous book were finally answered. And that ending?! Absolutely jaw-dropping. Just when I thought I had things figured out, I was left with even more questions about Rose's past and her family. Now I'm counting down the days until the next book comes out in October. Thank you so much for allowing me to be one your ARC Team 🖤 If you love fantasy filled with secrets, twists, family mysteries, and unforgettable characters, this series deserves a spot on your TBR.

I loved it so much!! I cried, I laughed, I kicked my feet!! Just go read it ASAP! And I will definitely hear on audio as well since the audio to book 1 was so good, and I believe the emotional experience will even be better!!
I was part of the author Patreon so I got daily chapters for like two months ( which was a good and torturous reading experience all at once), until like a few days ago I got the whole book the read to the ending!!
The book picks up directly after the events of book 1!! No time jump.
Not only the story picks up where we left, but also the feeling picks up where Kyor and Rose ended!!
We start with heartbreak and a big surprise.
We follow Rose on a journey to herself and trying come into her power.
The found family is family-Ing ( really good banter included), we have old friends and new characters.
And we get tension, tension, tension. Kyor and rose are such good written characters.
The pacing is again amazing, there is not one chapter which is filler, I had my head spinning. So much is happening!!
Stunning!! Spectacular!! Spellbinding!! Rose Kultavaris won the favor of Goddess Etta and survived the Retterheld. Her magic has been restored along with her royal status, courtly position, and her family estate. Her sister Acacia, while waiting for her at court, made new friends and loves; she has a different life now. Her characters, animals, humans, and supernaturals speak to my soul! 5 flashy splashy Stars!!
OMG! This book!! Ya know the feeling of reading an absolutely amazing book one that you think is a 6☆ well Web of Vows and Vengeance was that for me, and I was scared that book 2 wouldn't live up to it. BUT I was so wrong book 2 was/is absolutely AMAZING! The writing alone was so good! The way the characters have moved forward watching their growth and change has been so good to follow along with. The freaking tension, the build up, all of it was so thick you could taste it in the air. Rose and Kyor have so much push and pull in their very being, both are trying to do what they can for their families and in that secrets are building around them. This book had me gasping, heart racing, and holding my breath to see what was coming, where they were going. The relationship forming between each of the characters, especially Ruban and Kyor is absolutely my favorite! I am falling so far into each of these characters and need to know where they are all going! That ending?! That whole ending?! I am speechless..........
So, I’ve not made it a secret I’m over the romantasy craze, but of course I have to read anything these two authors create, as I’ve said before. This latest in the series is jam-packed with great characters, jaw-dropping surprises, and some interesting twists and turns, while keeping up the tension between Rose and Kyor. I was very annoyed with Rose and Kyor at the beginning of this book for reasons I can’t go into (spoilers), and I’m afraid that carried over for most of the book which lessened my enjoyment a bit. However, good on the author’s for making me annoyed with the actions of fictional characters. The end made me a little bit crabby as I was thrown for a loop, and I really want the next book now…and to yell at the authors. LOL! If you enjoyed the first book in the series, you’ll definitely love this installment. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I finished Vows of Blood and Deception and now I'm staring at a wall wondering how Aria Ashbrook expects me to function after THAT ending. 😭
The tension? Unbearable. The betrayals? Personal. The revelations? RUDE. My emotional stability? Gone.
I went into this book expecting enemies-to-lovers angst, royal intrigue, and a little emotional damage. What I got was a full-scale assault on my feelings and an ending that has me immediately demanding book three.
Rose and Kyor continue to own every single one of my thoughts, and I am officially unwell.
If you've read this one, please tell me I'm not the only person screaming into the void right now.
The audio was fantastic per usual with Amanda Leigh Cobb and Anthony Palmini narrating. You could feel the emotions, tension and story so well through their voices!
Be careful what you wish for. Rose Kultavaris not only survived the Retterheld but won the gifting reclaiming her title, her home, and her place at court, but not everything is as she wished it would become. Her sister has chosen the court, Prince Kyor has chosen his father and her magic is deadly. Leaving Wrohelm to discover how to control the deadly ice magic will she also find more than she bargained for?
This follows book one perfectly with added worldbuilding, so many new secrets, and new revelations about each of the characters. Rose continues to grow in herself and her confidence and the love/hate relationship with Kyor is one for the ages! I absolutely love the new relationship with Fen and the fact that only she can hear the dire wolves clearly. The banter makes you laugh, the losses make you cry, the love makes you whole. The only downside is waiting for book three with that ultimate cliffhanger of an ending!
