When you read a Novella you expect it to be short and sweet with some spice. What you don’t expect is for it to have all those elements and still give you the quality of a full length novel. Cedar continuously does that. It is a rare talent to be able to in such a short amount of time or words to establish a connection, chemistry and the realistic option that they could fall in love. Fitting in the time for them to get to know each other and it be believable. I loved their first meet and the immediate attraction. I thought the trauma and trust issues Maeve had were accurately portrayed and handled with a sensitivity of someone who has experienced it or knows someone who has. I absolutely cried at the telling of her story. Go Maeve. Graham like all her other MMC’s is a gem and belongs in the company of her others. He is extremely perceptive and very aware of her weariness towards him and makes sure to give her the space she needs to feel comfortable. I felt the subject matter was addressed very carefully and respectfully. I loved these characters and Cedar always gives them such depth. Whether it’s a vulnerability, strength, or choices that’s have to be made, it’s always there making it so easy to believe in them and root for them. It was so natural for them to miss each other and for him to show up with a grand gesture. This story, so sweet and Graham and Maeve were perfectly matched.
Whew!!! When Cedar said that this was an age gap, I immediately said sign me up!! Throw in the plot twist that it's a romance written in a small town bar in Oklahoma right off RT 66, ILL TAKE IT!
Coach and bartender mention the worst possible scenario, but they managed through it in the middle of a snowstorm, with no power in a bar!!! Even if she does get in trouble for using her bosses emergency kit!
What a short and spicy good time!!! Can't wait to continue with more of her amazing work!!
Also if you are an audio book girlie, make sure you check this out on audio! My girl Rachel Dane did an amazing job with Maeve! Mr Lucas Troy the way you brought Coach to life was amazing! (Those who know me know I'm not one for audio books, but this one was chefs kiss!)
Who doesn’t love a forced proximity situation between two strangers caused by a freak blizzard? This is a short, sweet, story (with a bit of trauma thrown in) about two people that find each other when they are trying to figure out their own lives. It’s a single father that is also the head coach of a top college basketball team, one competing in the championship tournament (that’s where the Sweet Sixteen part comes in). Because of his son’s medical issues, he finds himself driving during a snowstorm to meet up with the team. That’s how he finds himself stuck at a bar with a bartender who was just closing up. Maeve has been through some hard times that has led her to follow close to her brother. She is somewhat aimless. Graham has a son that is his whole world. He is battling with himself and his guilt of being with his son or being there for his team. They find each other at the time they both need to. This is a short novella and doesn’t delve deep into either of their lives, but it does give a story that packs a punch. The author is able to develop these two characters within only a few chapters and made this such an enjoyable story to read.
I have had the opportunity to listen to both narrators of this audiobook in the past and have enjoyed their previous work, so I knew that I was going to enjoy their performances. But I didn’t expect to see them in such different roles than I was used to. I have listened to many books read by Lucas Troy, and I am so used to him portray the dark, morally grey MMC. But with this book he showed that he can just as easily portray the sweet and strong single dad. He showed that he has a fantastic range and can tackle any role. Rachel Dane gives a wonderful performance as the slightly broken Maeve. She was easily able to portray the girl that was sweet yet had been tossed around by life.
I was really a fan of this story. It was short and I could have easily listened to more of this story and these characters. There is definitely spice, but the story takes a little bit to build to that scene. But when it does get there, it is written very well and has you feeling the passion between the two characters. I think one of the most difficult things is building characters that people connect with in only a few chapters, but the author definitely achieves that with these two. It is definitely worth the read or listen.
Sweet Sixteen Snowstorm is the kind of small-town romance that traps you inside with its characters — literally and emotionally.
We meet Maeve, who works at a bar in Oklahoma, just as a brutal snowstorm rolls in and shuts everything down. She’s stuck at work when Graham comes in looking for somewhere to hunker down and ride out the storm. And honestly? We love a gentleman that helps out. From the start, Graham proves he’s not just there for shelter — he’s there for her.
This story delivers all the tropes: forced proximity, age gap romance, small-town vibes, and a very slow burn. And when I say slow burn… I mean slow. Waiting for that first kiss was actual torture. You don’t get any real action until at least 60% in, and the tension builds and builds until you’re practically begging for something to happen. But when it finally does? Worth it.
One of my favorite lines: “I look at you like someone worth being here with.”
That right there sums up their connection. It’s not rushed. It’s not surface-level. It feels intentional. There is sexual assault mentioned in this book, so definitely check trigger warnings before diving in. It adds emotional weight to Maeve’s character and shapes how their relationship unfolds.
And I have to say — I’m so glad he came back for her after the snowstorm. Because after everything they built in that frozen little bubble, it would’ve been devastating if it ended there.
If you love tension-filled slow burns, protective gentlemen, and small-town romances where the storm outside matches the one brewing between the characters, this one’s for you. ❄️❤️
My thoughts: Wow! This book may have been a short read, but it packed a punch in certain parts and may even leave you crying a little. One of the things I love about this author is she brings the banter and all the heat but will also have you being a little emotional too. If you haven't read a Cedar James book yet, then you are missing out.
Maeve is our FMC who is a bartender working out in the middle of a snowstorm when she becomes stuck. Enter our MMC Graham who is a Coach on his way to meet his team for the Sweet Sixteen game but becomes stranded as the storm worsens and finds himself looking for a place to ride out the storm. Our poor sweet baby Maeve is extremely guarded and on high alert around him, but he goes out of his way to make her feel safe by helping out and always asking for consent. We love a consent king! The more time she spends with him the more she tells him her story and omg my heart when she finally tells him everything.
These two were just so perfect for each other. By the end of the story, I wasn't ready for it to end because I needed to know what happens after. This was a great small town slow burn romance and so well done with how short it was. I highly recommend checking out the whole A Year of Accidental Love Affairs series which also includes some stories by Nicole Lenz as well. We get a new book each month from both of these authors.

Thank you so much to Cedar James for the ARC copy as well as the gifted ALC to read along with. The narrators did a phenomenal job with this one.
Cedar Jame’s Sweet Sixteen Snowstorm was the gift I didn’t even know I needed.
It features Rachel Dane—who I adore—and a new-to-me voice actor, Lucas Troy. And the best part? It’s under four hours with a slow burn that is absolutely worth the payoff. Sign me up.
I loved this story! It has a cute storyline, great characters, a touch of past trauma, and a very lovable MMC—all set during a snowstorm where they’re stuck together. YES PLEASE.
Rachel Dane is such a solid performer—she grows leaps and bounds with every story she tells—and she found a great partner in Lucas Troy. Typically, it takes me a bit to get used to a new male voice actor since I’m so used to my favorites in my ears all the time, but Lucas took no time at all. I can definitely see myself adding him to my list of top male voice actors soon.

This was an absolute good time. Such a great story full of courage and determination. Loved our fmc mauve and mmc graham they were both amazingly written. I loved the strength our fmc found in herself not only in a time of need in a horrible situation but also in herself to allow her walls down and to let someone in. Graham was just delicious.
We follow mauve who works in a bar and finds herself snowed in during a snowstorm with a handsome stranger. After a power outage they find themselves snuggling up for warmth together to power through the storm. Such a great story!!
This was a quick and spicy novella with just the right amount of relationship development and emotional connection.
Maeve is a bartender in a small town about to be hit by a blizzard when Graham rolls up trying to escape the storm. They end up stuck together in the bar…and make the most of their time. While this is a pretty quick listen, the hanky panky doesn’t take place until after Maeve and Coach Graham really talk and emotionally connect. And yes, it’s a bit quick, but I bet their adrenaline was flowing so can’t blame them.
Listening was the best way to read, Rachel Dane gave such an emotional performance, I really believed she was Maeve. And Lucas Troy brings just the right amount of growly man as Graham.
My first from this author but hopefully not my last!
This was an arc read :) I don’t often do just reading I immersive read so I always have the audiobook too with that being said I loved reading this book, I read it in one sitting, literally wouldn’t go to bed without finishing it. It was just spicy enough, just enough banter, and touched on some tough subjects but it was done gently. Three of my favorite quotes “And just like that, I hand a man I don't know the trust swore I’d never give again.” “"The right kind of love doesn't make you smaller”” “"Most people don't realize how much strength it takes to keep going after someone tried to take pieces of you."” It will be released march 20th on ebook, audiobook, and paperback
I am WOW’d by this story. This novella tackles some hard and powerful topics, but Cedar handles it beautifully. I felt all the emotions. I cried, laughed, swooned, and had to pick my jaw up off the floor quite a few times.
I also had the pleasure of listening to the audiobook and let me say, Rachel Dane and Lucas Troy NAILED it. It was in duet-style narration and they had me sweating!!! This is a MUST READ and MUST LISTEN!!

Sweet Sixteen Snowstorm is literally everything I love in a small-town, snowed-in romance. If you have never read a Cedar James book...um what are you doing?! She delivers!!
I absolutely loved the chemistry between the main characters. You literally could feel it from the beginning.
This one is deep so make sure you do your research before reading this Accidental Love Affair addition but its always a 5 star for me!
I thought this was such a sweet and spicy listen 🎧 Maave being a bartender and Graham being a coach, they both are stuck in the middle of a snowstorm! The last thing Graham wants as he needs to his team and Maave has no idea who this guy is at all.
After some convo between both of them, some cute banter, lights out, heavy snow storms and some spice 🌶️ they end up becoming friendlier than when they met.
The narration was so joyful between Rachel Dane and Lucas Troy, I feel they were made for this book for sure!
Hats off to my girl Cedar because she delivers EVERY TIME! Graham and Maeve's chemistry, banter, and emotional connection was everything! I'm usually not a huge age gap romance person, but this was done so well! Not only that, everything Maeve had been through Cedar truly wrote so perfectly and handled with so much care! I can't wait for the next book in this series and to listen to this on audio because those narrators with Cedar's words I already know will blow me away!!💙🏀❄️
Short and spicy! But also touched on a previous SA and the trauma that goes with that. Please check your trigger warnings. Our FMC is Maeve and she is a bartender in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma when our MMC, Graham comes in during the middle of a snowstorm. I’ll let your mind go where it will. Read it!
I was lucky enough to receive an ALC of this book and it was absolutely the best little pallete cleanser after reading a super dark book. It was short, wholesome and the narration was superbly done! The banter and the tension between the 2 main characters was hilarious, adorable and very fricking hot!!! The only issue I have with the book is that it wasnt longer!!! I need to know more about Maeve & Graham!!!
If you’re looking for a short and sweet read i recommend this 100%!
This was a Spicy Forced-Proximity read where Maeve Calder, a guarded bartender who gets stranded in an Oklahoma bar with Graham Mercer, who is a tense college basketball coach racing to the Sweet Sixteen, when a blizzard cuts the power.
This is my first experience with anything from Cedar James. I like her style. Both characters were very well written. The FMC is very relatable. I too, use humor as a shield.
Whew.... this escalated in the best way. The spice was definitely spicing. Something about a man begging in audio. AND a Good Boy. *fans self* 🥵 Both narrators did a stellar job bringing the characters to life.
This is a short listen, but also a slower burn, then bam! 🔥🌶️
Storm, power outage, forced proximity and an age gap... mixed with the banter and tension. Perfection.
GUYSSS this one had me hooked from the start! This is the 3rd installment of A Year of Accidental Love Affairs.
This is a snowed-in, forced proximity romance with age gap, delicious tension, banter and healing. I loved every second of this novella!
The FMC is young, but emotionally mature. Her past traumas and how she copes made her easy to connect with. The MMC was so sweet, considerate and playful. I loved seeing him try to remain in control of his urges. He handled her boundaries with such care and was patient until SHE broke. 🤩🥵Their dynamic was soooo fun!
If you love forced proximity, banter and tension that explodes…DO NOT skip out on this novella!

This was my first book by Cedar James and I enjoyed this audiobook! Rachel Dane and Lucas Troy brought Maeve and Graham to our listening ears, and embraced their roles perfectly. Rachel did a phenomenal job bringing Maeve to life – her guarded persona due to trauma was handled with such care, and as trust built with Graham, the vulnerability exuded was beautiful and believable. Lucas Troy embodied Graham’s trustworthiness, strength, and steadfast support – he was the biggest green flag and flawlessly created a listening experience where you couldn’t help but root for his character the entire time and swoon at every check-in that created a necessary safety net.

All Maeve is trying to do is close up the bar and get home before the freak Oklahoma snowstorm makes it impossible to leave…easier said than done when a stranded stranger barrels in.
Graham is a tall, controlled college basketball coach trying to get to the Sweet Sixteen, but the snowstorm traps him inside Maeve’s bar. When the highway shuts down and the power goes out, it becomes impossible to ignore the heat building between them. Every wall Maeve has built around herself to stay safe seems to not be needed around Graham…but when the storm clears and reality sets in, what happens next?
If you’re looking for a swoon-worthy read in which resilience and courage are prioritized and valued, pick this one up! Graham is the biggest green flag MMC that will make you wish you were stuck in a snowstorm with and needed to share blankets for body heat, while Maeve is a character that many women, myself included, can resonate with – you’ll be happy she found someone who understood that her safety took priority over anything else.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Audiobook Review – Sweet Sixteen Snowstorm by Cedar James Narrated by Rachel Dane & Lucas Troy 🎧
okay first of all… WHY are we always trusting snowstorms?? nothing good ever happens when people get snowed in together
actually no scratch that—everything good happens 😌
ALSO??? A BASKETBALL COACH??? IN A SNOWSTORM???
oh I was LOCKED IN immediately 🏀
the FORCED PROXIMITY??? the tension??? the “oh no we’re stuck here guess we have to TALK and FEEL THINGS” energy???
inject it directly into my bloodstream
these characters really said: ❄️ get trapped ❄️ argue a little ❄️ accidentally catch feelings ❄️ spiral emotionally ❄️ oh and btw he’s a basketball coach just to personally attack me
and I was EATING IT UP
AND THE NARRATION??? Rachel Dane??? ma’am??? the EMOTION??? Lucas Troy??? sir??? the VOICE??? the TENSION???
him voicing a basketball coach??? yeah no I was gone. deceased. no recovery.
together??? illegal. actually illegal.
there were moments where I was just sitting there like “oh we’re FEELING today?? okay cool I didn’t plan for that but sure”
it’s cozy but also stressful but also cute but also I’m screaming???
like you KNOW something is going to happen because SNOWSTORM but you still sit there like 👁️👄👁️ waiting for the chaos
Sweet Sixteen Snowstorm was such a cute little book that explores opening yourself back up to love after surviving a terrible assault. That’s exactly what Maeve does when Graham walks into her bar, taking cover from an impending snowstorm.
Maeve is hesitant to be around Graham at first and struggles to trust him due to her past trauma from a previous relationship, but she soon realises he’s more than what she thinks men are capable of.
Graham is the most adorable person. He’s a single dad whose life revolves around his son and his job. He is so tentative with Maeve, noticing how nervous he makes her and being incredibly gentle and patient with her. He was truly beautiful to her.
These two end up stuck together in the bar while riding out the snowstorm, and it turns into such a fun night together. Their getting-to-know-you conversations and banter were perfect. Their chemistry… everything!
All that tension builds up to a hot, steamy night where they both finally give in to each other, and it’s so good. It’s a lovely story about starting over and learning to trust and love again.

I went into this story completely blind after Lucas told me he had another gem for me to listen to… and let’s just say he was absolutely right. I was hooked from the very beginning. 👀
We meet Maeve, a bartender in a small town who’s clearly trying to hide from her past. Just as she’s about to close the bar for the night, a snowstorm rolls in—and then Graham walks through the door. ❄️🍸 The storm gets worse, the roads close, and suddenly it becomes very clear that neither of them is going anywhere for a while. Two strangers, one bar, and a long snowy night ahead.
I loved the way Cedar James slowly reveals the layers behind Maeve’s guardedness and vulnerability. Her walls didn’t come out of nowhere, and watching them crack little by little felt very real. And Graham? Let’s just say he’s the kind of man who actually pays attention, reads the room, and understands a woman without pushing too hard. Yes, they still exist. 😌
The narration by Rachel Dane and Lucas Troy was absolute perfection. The tension, the quiet moments, the emotional beats—they brought everything to life so vividly that it honestly felt like a movie playing in my head. 🎧✨
If you love a heartfelt novella with emotional depth, slow-building tension, and just the right touch of spice… you might want to add this one to your list. 🔥📚

DO NOT be fooled by the length of this story. Cedar James packs a fully realized, emotional, funny and heartwarming encounter into under four hours and makes it look SO easy.
When I say this story took me by surprise and literally meant so much to me, I am not exaggerating. Representation matters in books and let’s just say this one hit home. I am all in Cedar James. You are not getting rid of me.
Now…this audio had me laughing, crying, blushing and so invested. The voice acting was top tier and these two left no crumbs!! @lucastroyvo I was so impressed with this one. Truly, what a heartfelt performance. @racheldanevo you know what happened when I was halfway through this book. I immediately had to stop and message you because of how touched and impressed I was with your amazing performance. Y’all do not sleep on these two. They are both fantastic.
Oh and did I mention spice that will literally melt your face off. I think I got a tan from blushing. 🤣
So, do I recommend it?? Duh Get in on this one as soon as you can, which I think is 3/20!!
♡This was my first read by Cedar James & I loved it. Cedar took a novella & made it feel like a full length story in the best way! This book follows two strangers Maeve & Graham while they encounter being stuck overnight in a bar during a giant snow storm together. Because of past experiences Maeve is very standoffish when it comes to new people especially when alone with them. Graham is patient, polite, & very understanding. These two were perfect opposites attract characters!
The duet narration for this audiobook was perfection. Rachel & Lucas both did a phenomenal job bringing this story & it's characters to life. They matched the emotion in this story perfectly & thier voices flowed super well together!
If you need a good read when your all snowed in look no further!♡
I was really lucky to receive an ALC from Ceder James and I wasn't disappointed. This was a quick listen and SO GOOD!
Rachel Dane voices Maeve who is a bartender, hiding away from past experiences leading her to keep people at arms length. Rachel was great at keeping that hard side of Maeve even when her guard kept dropping showing hints of vulnerability.
Lucas Troy voices Graham Mercer, a basketball coach juggling being a single dad with an 8 year old. I've listened to a lot of books voiced by Lucas, most of them unhinged and morally grey, so it was really great to hear him lean into a contemporary character. As usual, Lucas didn't disappoint, Graham is a character who's always in control, be it coaching a basketball team or caring for his son... so to hear Graham absolutely lose control with Maeve was ✨️perfection✨️ the emotion BOTH voice actors portray in every scene (even during the 🔥 scenes 🥵) was on point.
I loved the whole story it was such a beautiful read of two lost souls finding each other when forced together during a freak snowstorm... and the spicy scenes were *chefs kiss*
This is a short read, only 120-ish pages. But it packs a punch! Swoony, spicy, emotional.
Backing up, Mauve is a bartender in a small town in Oklahoma. Her brother warned her there’s a massive storm coming and she needs to leave work, get home, and hunker down immediately. Fate has other plans.
Enter Graham, a basketball coach, traveling to check on his son instead of being with his players, but also encounters the storm.
They’re stranded. Strangers. One bed. But Graham can read every wall Mauve throws up and intentionally makes gentle moves to allow her to break them down. He’s slowly burning through them and igniting a fire within himself. It’s a slow burn! But worth it, because when they get together, it’s fire.
Life works out how it’s supposed to, and this story is a testament to that.
This was a very quick listen, but it was sooooo empowering, and the narrators did an excellent job of bringing the story and characters to life.
Maeve is a SA survivor, and, after trusting her instincts, she finds herself stuck in the bar she works at during a snowstorm with a complete stranger. I absolutely loved the way that Graham was aware of Maeve's feelings and emotions and how he validated each of them. The way he not only respected her boundaries, but gave her her power back by giving up all control was just everything.
I only wish we had gotten more of their story after he came back for her.
Quote: “I don't look at you like a miracle. I look at you like someone worth being here with.”
I had the chance to listen to the audiobook ARC of Sweet 16 Snowstorm by Cedar James and I had such a fun time with it. This novella is a quick listen (about three hours) but the story still manages to pack in plenty of tension, romance, and spice. 🌶️❄️
Huge thank you to narrator Lucas Troy for inviting me to listen — he has recommended several of his projects to me and they never disappoint. And the dual narration with Rachel Dane made the story even more fun to experience.
If you’re looking for a short, spicy romance you can finish in one sitting, this one is definitely worth checking out. I’m already excited to read (and listen to) more from Cedar James.
I listened to this audiobook and it was amazing! It's a dual narration and the narrators were great. They sounded great together. I already knew going into this that I was going to love Graham. He's voiced by one of my favorites, Lucas Troy. His character is so sweet and caring. He never pushes Maeve. I loved that about him. The story is sweet and spicy, but it does deal with some heavy topics that the FMC has went through in her past. Check the author warning before and then get snowed in with Coach and Bartender. 💖
