She was the one person in the world who seeped warmth beyond his cold, fortified walls. Until he betrayed her.

Jericho Easton, famed throughout England for his brutal victories inside the ring, has spent most of his life alone, untouched, and blood-stained. He’s not certain why he fights. To find the man who murdered his father? Or unleash the ever-burning fury inside his chest? Regardless, he never expected to confront the blackguard from his nightmares so soon. Or that the man’s innocent daughter would smile at him as no one ever had.

Iris Gregory has secrets and griefs of her own. But she tucks them away behind an eager smile and a laughing zest for life. When mysterious and unreachable Jericho Easton comes to her family’s rescue on the farm, some of the loneliness ebbs away into trust, hard-earned friendship—and maybe something more. Why are all her letters suddenly filled with him? Was she ever truly alive before his kiss?

Then the unthinkable happens. Jericho grapples with a sense of duty and justice toward his dead father, and Iris is left reeling in the wake of so many lies. As the consequences of Jericho’s decision unfurl, Iris is thrown into a vortex of pain, destitution, and utter hopelessness. Jericho might be the only one who can rescue her. But can she let him—or ever again give him passage into her heart—when he’s the very one who shattered it?

Rich character development, emotional resonance, and the foreboding atmosphere are definite stars of this novel, but the theme of forgiveness was so expertly done that I can’t stop thinking about it.

I love learning as I read and added ‘ebullient’ to my lexicon.

If you love a faith-forward novel with twists and a vivid atmosphere, and characters who learn to work through the difficult stuff to experience God’s grace, this is one you’ll want to read

I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.

You know that rare sort of book that grabs you by the throat, flings you onto the couch, and doesn't let up until you finish the last page? The kind that you torments you to linger over every single word while at the same time forces you to race to the end to make sure everything is going to work into a smile? Yeah. This is that kind of book . . . and you need it.

The characters are heart-wrenchingly real, the story hauntingly romantic, and the beauty of hope shines through this gripping Regency tale. Which is why Tenderly Betrayed earns one of my very stingy 5 star reviews because it's just that lovely.

This is a well-written book set in Hampshire, England with vivid descriptions that brought the story to life and character development that drew me in. I especially liked Jeremiah and felt for his emotional pain and need to be loved. Iris was a little harder for me to connect with but she suffered much pain as well. It is a heavy story with a lot going on, some of it kept within the characters. But in the end, there is redemption, forgiveness, love, and a positive, happy ending.

5 stars!!!
My gracious… this book was so exquisitely written. Hannah Linder fully encompasses you into the time and setting of the story, with prose reminiscent of Austen and fairytales of old. Such heartbreakingly beautiful emotions are woven throughout, creating a captivating narrative full of raw human struggles. Iris and Jericho nestle deep into the heart of the reader as they navigate love, pain, betrayal, devastation, finding faith, and healing. The pacing was also so unique. Around 40% everything shatters around Iris, leaving her alone and hurt, a deep anger towards Jericho burning even amidst her longing for him. And Jericho has lost the one person he ever began letting in since the horrific accident he witnessed as a child. You get to see both of their wrestles and hardships, until they are brought back together again under devastating circumstances. Their relationship truly tugs from a place so much deeper than just physical attraction. I won’t say too much about the circumstances and why she hates him for spoiler’s sake, but their rekindled connection is so powerful.
Also, we get to see Jericho coming to faith. For so long he has denied God because of his father’s pounding in of disbelief, and has reached such a dark place of hurt and anger. But at his lowest, he looks up and cries out for a help and a belonging that can only come from above. Jericho’s brother introduces him to the powerful truth of the Lord and His goodness and forgiveness. Both Iris and Jericho face terrible hardships, yet remain steadfast in faith even when they words to pray won’t come. It also explores the beautiful redemption that comes through belief in Christ and the sacrifice He made for us. And it genuinely shines such an effervescent light on forgiveness even when and especially when it is painful and takes time.
Now, Richard’s character I didn’t love. He lives in this very dark mental place, resulting from an injury and the betrayal he believes occurred when the love of his life (Iris’ mother) married another. He fights between wanting to commit suicide, heavy drinking, longing for Iris’ mother, and then believing Iris is her mother and wanting to kill Jericho because of that. He also had a daughter with an enslaved woman while off at war. The daughter is often neglected because of Richard’s struggles, and she ends up with child (off-page insinuation of a rape). But I felt grieved for him, and longed for him to receive the help that veterans so rarely receive. His chapters/sections were short, but a bit uncomfortable at times.
~Content~
This is an overall clean book: kisses only (level 1), no swearing (uses of derivates of “deuce”), and mild and infrequent innuendo (all non-descriptive, but include insinuations of young women enticing men instead of the men being at fault, Richard longs to have a relationship with Iris’ mother, etc.)
Other content considerations: attempted murder, past trauma, arson, injury, starvation, mistreatment, abuse, starvation, death, grief, lying, and being cast-out because of one’s father. Jericho is a pugilist, and often is bloodied after fights, thought most fights are not on-page. *This book does deal with heavier topics. But, those topics show the Goodness and Faithfulness of God even in those dark and gritty circumstances. His plan is always greater, and the evil one will try to trip us in every step.*
Christian content: themes of redemption, forgiveness, love, grace, salvation, praying, faith, and trust. God is so present!
~Final thoughts~
Overall, Tenderly Betrayed by Hannah Linder was such an incredible read; it evoked tears and smiles and everything in-between. I highly recommend if you enjoy novels that explore the hardships of life one this earth while also showing how God is greater, and that His Goodness and Mercy and Love are abounding in every circumstance no matter our past. Thank you so much, Hannah, for sharing your gift of writing and forwarding the Gospel!!! And I cannot wait to be able to own a copy and for it to reach the hearts of those who read it!
Happy reading and God bless :)

I received a free ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

First, let me say this, I love Hannah Linder and the heart she has for the Lord. I love her writing style. It’s always elegant and draw you in. I love her covers and they’re always stunning and this one is no different. Now with all of that being said, I have some things I liked and didn’t like about this book. Unfortunately, I think this is my least favorite of hers so far. First, I liked the faith content in this one. It was much more evident and obvious than her other books. I really loved Jericho’s faith journey and redemption story. I did enjoy the ending and the way the story finally came together. I really liked the addition of a baby in the story. They always bring joy and life to the pages of a book.
I just didn’t really love the characters especially Jericho. He just rubbed me the wrong way. I didn’t like that he was always fighting and like I get it, but I think the guy would be dead by now you know. I didn’t like how obsessed Iris was with him. She didn’t even know him and was like in love with him. She would follow him around. I didn’t even see them as a love match. It felt forced. He seemed so much older than her. I did not like Richard at all. He was creepy and disgusting! The way he obsessed over Iris’ mother even though she was married was foul! I didn’t like how Iris’ mother kinda led him on either and was very naïve when it came to him. It annoyed me. As with all of Hannah’s book, there is tragedy and darkness, but this one felt even more so. Overall, it wasn’t my favorite sadly. This is no hate to the author or anything. I have really enjoyed her books in the past and can’t wait to read whatever else she writes. This one was unfortunately a miss for me.

Tenderly Betrayed is another amazing novel written by Hannah Linder!
I became immersed into the story quite from the beginning. I loved the characters and the undying love that you so palpably feel from the hero, Jericho for his heroine, Iris. The same feelings are reciprocal. (Mostly) This book has action. The hero is a pugilist and some scenes are bit graphic, but not overly so. A mystery. A gothicesque feel to the book, and of course a clean romance. Which, by the way, touches your soul as you root all throughout the book for Jericho and Iris.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and i highly recommend.

3.5 stars (4/10 hearts). This is anther typically Hannah Linder novel, with even more poetic writing than usual, I thought. I liked Jericho—he was so unusual and so tender! I struggled a lot with the setting though—the fact that Iris' family were apparently tenant farmers who ploughed their own land and could be kicked off it for not paying rent, but also had silk dresses and could attend the lord's ball had me struggling to place them socially in regency England. So much of the book felt like backwoods America to me that I had to check the date & place. I did like the mystery, and I particularly loved how Iris took care of Malaya's baby (poor thing, what a horrid life she had) and how Jericho cared for Iris & her family. His conversion was also well done; and I liked his family, and Curly; and the ending surprised me!

Hannah Linder has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Her writing is gorgeously detailed, without being wordy, emotional and lovely. I was completely drawn in to this story from page one. Both Iris and Jericho face so many heart aching struggles told with beautiful emotional depth. Forgiveness, grace, redemption, realistic faith struggles wrapped in the perfect amount of suspense and intrigue create a compelling, multilayered story. I really never would have believed that I would be so drawn to a Gothic suspense tale, but Hannah Linder has changed that 100% with her compelling, heartfelt books. This is a hard to put down, don't miss read.

Tenderly Betrayed is my first book by Hannah Linder but it won't be my last. The first thing that struck me is how neautifully Linder writes. The words flow and dance like a work of art. I was instantly transported.

Jericho Easton is a champion prizefighter. As the story unfolds we learn he moves from place to place to fight, while scouring the crowds that gather to watch, for the man who murdered his father. Iris Gregory hides her heartbreak behind a willing smile, and when Jericho unwittingly rescues her and her father and comes to stay on their farm, she believes her searing loneliness is passing. Until the unthinkable happens. And that's all I'm saying. Go get the book.

I’m sad to say that as a massive Hannah Linder fan that the only reasons I finished this were because it was an arc and my love for the author. I didn’t care about the characters, romance or the plot.

Still, I’ll be here waiting for her next book

Hannah Linder has once again written a book that is heartbreakingly beautiful, in all of the best ways. I can't get over how she interwove the themes of forgiveness and redemption throughout this book. I am still in awe with how unique Tenderly Betrayed is. Jericho and Iris’ love was hard fought but oh so beautiful once found. Iris showed the light Jericho so desperately needed, and Jericho was the steady presence Iris had lost. Watching Jericho slowly win her back made this book all the better.

Loved reading the inspirational and heart-wrenching story. When Jericho meets Iris and her family, he can't help caring for Iris but at the same time, he keeps wondering if Iris's father is the one who killed his father. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written full of twists and turns, and a must read riveting story.

Jericho Easton is a formidable fighter, a man hardened by years of anger and a desire for revenge over his father's murder. When he comes to the rescue of Iris Gregory's family, he finds himself drawn to a woman whose warmth and cheerful nature are quite unlike anything he has known. Iris has her own sadness and secrets, but there is something about Jericho that makes her feel understood. As friendship develops into something deeper, neither can quite imagine what is coming when Jericho's desire for justice leads him to make a devastating decision.
I particularly enjoyed the contrast between Jericho and Iris. He is guarded and troubled, carrying so much anger, while Iris brings warmth and light into his world. Their relationship develops beautifully, and I liked seeing how their friendship gradually grows into something much deeper. It is clear how strongly they feel about each other, which makes what happens between them all the more heartbreaking.
What I found particularly interesting was the conflict between Jericho's desire for justice for his father and his feelings for Iris. His decision has devastating consequences, and watching the story unfold as both characters deal with the aftermath made for a compelling read. Even when everything seems lost, their feelings for each other remain, leaving the question of whether love can overcome the hurt and betrayal. There were some heartbreaking moments, and I found myself very invested in whether these two could find their way back to each other. A wonderful read by a talented author.

Hannah Linder continues to perfect her craft in each new addition to her growing repertoire of terrifically gothic and utterly romantic Christian fiction.

Tenderly Betrayed is just that, a tender and haunting betrayal of love and affection. Iris has experienced devastating loss, yet she finds unexpected joy in drawing out the fierce and stoic pugilist, Jericho Easton. Easton has know loss as well. He has spent years running from the pain while taking out his anger on any man fool enough to meet him in the ring.

When Jericho discovers the man responsible for the darker turn to his life, he knows he will not only destroy one life but he will also destroy any chance he may have at love.

And that isn’t even the worst part of the story. It’s just the beginning! Hannah weaves a love gone wrong with an eerie tale of obsession. A fantastic story of raw emotion!

- MY RATING -
⭐ Overall: ★★★★☆
💕 Romance: ★★★★☆
✝️ Faith: ★★★☆☆
🍂 Atmosphere: ★★★★★
🖋️ Writing: ★★★★☆
🔥 Spice: None 🌶️ (Closed Door / Kisses on page) !CONTENT WARNING!

- BOOK SYNOPSIS -
Iris, a farmer’s daughter with a zest for life, and Jericho, a nomadic pugilist hungry to avenge his father’s murder, have to survive betrayal before reaching healing and redemption.

- MY THOUGHTS -
This book takes you for a ride! If you are a fan of Dickensian work, this one is for you. If Regency usually feels too glamorous for you, this one is different. It’s gritty, rural, and Dickensian in feel, with just a glimpse of the ballroom world. It plunges you into the dark, dirty side of impoverished England, yet still warms you with a cozy cottage fire.

You get dual points of view from Iris and Jericho, and a third perspective from an antagonist you’ll quickly despise. The characters are complex and fully built, each with their own backstory, and nobody is as straightforward as they seem.

I didn’t like the FMC at first. Her personality lacked depth and felt overly sweet and naive for my taste, but life beats her up through the story, she gets more depth, and her layers begin to peel back.

For a Christian faith-based story, this book doesn’t shy away from the evil of humanity, or from the grief and loss that come with sin. You feel the weight of depravity and desperation, but you’re given hope for a new tomorrow in the love of Christ.

The faith journey that Jericho goes on is deep and poignant, coming from a home where his mother was culturally Christian and his father a staunch atheist whom he loved dearly. I felt Iris’s faith journey was a little on the shallow side, but it doesn’t detract from the story itself.

Grit, grief, and a hero who says “my wife” like he means it, all wrapped in redemption.

- TROPES -
• enemies to lovers
• protective MMC
• grumpy / sunshine
• marriage of convenience
• forced proximity
• multiple POV (FMC, MMC, Antagonist)

- CONTENT CONSIDERATIONS -
• sexual harassment / possibly a sexual assault (vaguely described / not graphic but a struggle is described)
• murder / blood
• violence
• alcoholism / drunkenness
• inhumane conditions / abuses
• repetitive use of 2 words that are stand-ins for cuss words, “blast” and “deuces”
• derogatory words towards poor or destitute women

- QUOTES I LOVED -

Mamma patted her lap. Something about her hands—a little wrinkled, threaded with veins—beckoned to Iris like warm soup in a winter snow.

Warmth spread a banquet throughout her heart, and at the table sat quietness, contentment, and something so delicate it almost felt like love.

“Dear God.” Jericho rubbed his eyes and shook his head as the faintest flicker of hope sparked in his abyss of darkness. “If You’re real. . . “If ? No.That was nothing. No better than Mother attending church but never muttering a prayer. Or Father hanging a mezzotint of The Last Supper above his writing desk but pummeling disbelief into his sons. “Jesus, I need saving.”

'Tenderly Betrayed' is one of my favorite fiction reads of the year! Hannah Linder has a distinctive writing style that draws me into her historical settings and the lives of her characters. Her stories are gritty and full of suspense, but she balances the darker elements with tender, clean romance and genuine Christian faith in a way that really works for me.

I especially loved Iris and Jericho’s story. They are complicated characters who have faced so much but make very different choices in response to their circumstances. I found myself completely hooked as their romance blossomed, and I think this is my favorite of the three Hannah Linder books I’ve read so far. Gothic novels aren't usually what I reach for, but I love how she combines suspense, romance, and faith, and I would happily read more of her backlist!

“Tenderly Betrayed” by Hannah Linder is an achingly sad and yet sweetly happy story of a hurting young boy who turned to a tortured man and a young girl desperate to fill the hole left behind after the death of her sister. Jericho has turned the hurt and anger inside his heart into a raging beast in the fighting ring. His life consists of going from one town to another and one fight to the next where his anger and hate and hurt come out and have turned him into a mostly undefeated fighter. In one small town, after a fight, he meets Miss Iris Gregory, whom he spares barely a moment of his time and attention. That evening, Jericho sees Miss Gregory with a man who bears a striking resemblance to a nightmare in Jericho’s past. This meeting sets of a chain of events that leads to Jericho spending much more time with the Gregory family. In order to not spoil any part of this story, I will refrain from any more talk of events and details. One must truly read it and experience each moment as it comes.

I am torn on what to say about this book. It was a wonderful literary escape, but in an achingly difficult and emotional way at times. This story has some very sad elements, but those sad elements are what make the plot rich, the conflicts agonizing, and the characters so real-to-life and flawed. Jericho has faced so much hurt in his life, and yet through some of this hurt there is eventually the opportunity for hope and reconciliation. Iris has faced sorrow and loss, and her response to that was to try to change herself to be someone else. The story itself adds more loss and hurt for both Jericho and Iris. Add in some extreme danger and devastation, and this story is at times pretty heavy. There is a secondary character, and I will admit in the beginning of the book, I did not understand how they fit the story and all of the implications of that particular part of the plot until later. Stick with it if this is you. You will not regret reading it to the ending. Some truths of Scripture are shared in this story, and it is done in a natural and seamless way which truly enhances the story and shows us even better character arc. I truly did enjoy this book, but I will say that it is not a lighthearted and fun sort of read. Rather, it is a thought-provoking and heart-stirring sort of read that shines with hope at the very end. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a good book with excellent plot, conflict, resolution, and characters. I am still digesting and mulling this story even days after finishing it.

“We must always consider consequences to our actions.”

Wow! This novel! I’m speechless at the depth of this novel, it’s quite unmatched to anything I’ve read before. Truly well done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

And even though I’m “speechless” 😁 I’ll try to convey my feelings, thoughts and emotions, they’re quite many all jumbled together 🙈 I’ve been blown to bits… so many things, events happening that tore my heart, I’m telling you, this novel had ripped my heart out and slowly put it back together again 😅 I wasn’t ready for it and I believe it’ll stay with me for many years to come, lol. I don’t think it’s a story you’ll easily forget, lol. I know I’m rambling but what can I do 🤷🏻‍♀️

Iris ❤️ Jericho

Their love and romance were quite unique. Love/hate, hate/love, I mean it reminds me of “Charity suffereth long, and is kind…”. And also, [It] “Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”

This is an intriguing novel with all the secrets and different pov, quite amazingly written. It has a complexed plot that’ll lure you to read it and not put it down. At times it felt even poetical.

I felt so much for the sufferings and intricate lives of the characters, they were troubled souls without an anchor or North Star. And even though there’s a story “running” I felt each character had a story of their own, so intricately connected and crafted. I don’t think I’ve ever read a novel quite like it. Pretty deep topics that’ll make you feel for the characters and make you wonder how everything will unfold in the end. Although, mysterious in its own way, it was quite fascinating.

And the faith weaved throughout was amazing! I always love when characters are so lost that they don’t think there’s a chance for them but so beautiful when they can find their way to the Cross and leave all their burdens there 🥹 Oh, how I love it! When a battered soul finds peace, and turns his/her life around, quite remarkable ❤️

And look at these quotes about the Bible…

“A sensible man, having never read it, could profess this book untrue. But only a fool could read it and make such a claim.”

“It is so wonderful I can imagine why there are those who cannot believe it. But what I cannot imagine is why someone would not want to.”

And isn’t this so true? 😉
“Dinner is a sacred thing… It is the joining of company, the setting aside of toil, and the only time of day we may enjoy conversation without busying our hands with work. It must be treated with some semblance of respect.”

If you like a novel as described above then this is the book for you. You can preorder as its release is scheduled to November 1st.

This powerful, heart wrenching Regency romance story totally engulfed me in its world from start to finish. There is a lot of hurt, sorrow, and tragedy in these pages, making it an intense read for me and evoking myriad emotions along the way. The storyline, packed with secrets and tension, is masterfully crafted with well-placed twists that had me gasping in disbelief. Complex, flawed characters (one with a deeply tormented soul) tugged at my heartstrings. I was hoping for a stronger redemptive element. While parts of this book are deeply disquieting, it remains an immensely worthwhile read.

What a very selfish person and always see things the way they think it should be. A murder father, put a picture of a gentleman to a family, one day he paid for what he did and his daughter did not believe the father can do this? Well it was a beautiful story with a lot of heart.

Tenderly Betrayed is best described as a "but wait--there's more!" story. It seemed like it was going to climax but when i looked, I was only like 50% in the story. It just kept on having things. And then more things. and it got to the point where I was just wanting everything to be resolved and be over.

It was obvious how it was going to end. It was obvious who the villain was.

This one just didn't meet the mark for me. But it was still a good story and the writing was well done. I just think it needed to be a lot shorter.

My Thoughts:
I have been waiting for a new Hannah Linder novel, and this provided the drama and intrigue she's known for in her writing. It's a bit more tragic than some of her previous books, but it still provided a feeling of hope and happiness at the end.
While this isn't a mystery, there are some background details about the characters that are a bit mysterious in the beginning. Jericho is haunted by a tragic past and, as his path crossed with Iris, he learned that their lives were intertwined in ways that could tear them apart forever. I loved seeing him find forgiveness and healing by the end of the book.
Iris was full of life and wanted to share her hope with Jericho. But the lies that were brought to light caused her to face many trials and terrible despair. My heart hurt for her so many times, and I completely understood her internal struggle in the last half of the story.
This book did involve a villain, although I felt a bit bad for him. His story was definitely tragic and troubling, and I think readers may have mixed feelings about his POV being included. Personally, I think it helped to understand his mental state and why he acted the way he did.
This story definitely put my heart through the wringer at times, but it delivered a beautiful tale of forgiveness and redemption for characters who faced many trials.

Wow!! This was my first read by Hannah and I LOVED it so much!! It surprised me in the best possible way. This regency novel is everything you want for a historical fiction meets suspense meets romance book. I was intrigued right off the bat and could not stop reading! Hannah knows how to end a chapter!! I can’t tell you how many times I finished a chapter and my jaw dropped. Quite the page turner!

Her writing is SO beautiful and immersive and the storyline was so well done. I highly recommend this book, especially to those that love the historical fiction, suspense and romance genres. I’ll definitely be checking out more of Hannah’s books!

This book caught me off guard a bit. I love Hannah Linder books, and this one was no different. Throughout my reading I just wanted to hug both Jericho and Iris and then smoosh them together to live happily ever after. Haha! This is one of those classic tales where the MCs are meant to be together but circumstance and human pride get firmly in the way. Thoroughly enjoyed reading.

I have not read any books by Hannah Linder but I intend to do so in future. This was a really intense read for me. It has all the elements that make it an unforgettable story. It has elements of forgiveness, faith, suspense. The main characters Iris Greggory and Jericho Easton are embroiled in a family drama that is not easy to untangle. The Greggory family lives on a farm and Jericho helps them out of a plight that would have devastated the family. He is a very angry man who is more comfortable in the ring fighting than living. He is full of anger at his Father's death. He wants to avenge the person responsible. He does find faith in God through his brother reaching out to him later on in the book. Iris finds the betrayal by Jericho impossible to forgive. Many secrets are finally revealed. Both Iris and Jericho have hardships they deal with because of the choices that were made. Very well written it is about redemption and faith finding a way when there does not seam to be a way.

Beautifully written. The story is so vivid and imaginative I could easily see it as a movie or television series. The violence toward the end was a bit disheartening, though, so I will leave this story as a one-time read. But other than that, this book is worth five stars and even more.

Tenderly Betrayed is a solid, engaging read that delivers everything you want from modern Regency suspense. Hannah Linder knows how to craft an atmosphere filled with tension, secrets, and emotional stakes that keep you turning pages.
The plot centers on compelling mysteries and dynamic character interactions, balancing the darker elements of betrayal with moments of genuine heart. While a few beats felt familiar for the genre, the pacing moved along at a strong clip, and the resolution brought everything together nicely.
Overall, it’s a thoroughly enjoyable historical suspense novel, an easy 4-star read for fans of clean, atmospheric romance mixed with intrigue.
