Assuming a new identity after discovering that her uncle/guardian was responsible for her parents' deaths, Isabel Millington, determined to avenge her family, seeks help from her shady new employer, Fox Tremayne, a disgraced former officer. Original.
I picked up this novel with little expectations and it was an interesting read. The storyline was easy to follow and the romance was intriguing, although not prominent in the story.
2.5 - the pacing and plot were very odd sometimes. And things that should have been the main focus (the romance, revenge plot against the bad guy) were relegated to the background for some reason. The conflicts were all wrapped up mostly off screen in the last 20 pages. It's as if the author realized the deadline was looming and was so sick of the story they just wrapped it up with an exposition-dump. We learn in one conversation that no less than four marriages have taken place, the bad guys have been prosecuted and fled the country, and the bad guy's son has apparently taken over the hero's network for stealing from rich people to give to the poor? There were whole stretches of the book that were very well written so these random spots of poor writing were jarring.
