When Navy fighter pilot Crew Diaz's plane engine fails, he managed to eject while his co-pilot Conner Dickenson went down with the plane, and Connor's family still blames Crew. Inspectors later discovered that not only did the engine fail, but a faulty part in the copilot’s ejector system kept had kept him trapped. Crew finally enters a therapy program offered at Black Heart Ranch to help him deal with his PTSD and the nightmares over the incident. He assists one of the other men in writing letters to families who have lost someone; then he mails them at the post office and picks up the next batch. Today, he dropped some of the envelopes in a field and someone shouted that the huge angry goat was loose and heading toward Crew's bent-over butt as he picked up the envelopes he had just dropped! He stood up in time, but Willow, watching the action, started to laugh. As the goat lined up for another run at him, Crew vaulted over the fence out of harm's way. Unfortunately, everyone was busy today and he had to take the next batch of letters to town and make a run to the hardware store. He had watched a woman receive a dead plant at the post office and she seemed happy about it! Then at the hardware store, he saw her again as she accidentally dropped several pots of shriveled plants she was taking to the register and she offhandedly thanked him for his service, only to get a strange look from the clerk.
Fern Foster had recently moved to Willowbrook to avoid her cruel ex Chris and find healing. He always told her she had so many faults that no one but him could ever tolerate her. Just thinking about him was painful. Fortunately she loves her greenhouse job and has started picking up some landscaping jobs as well. She returned to the greenhouse and asked Marla about the Black Heart Ranch that the hardware clerk mentioned since she apparently had said something uncomfortable to the man who helped her. She hoped he hadn't thought she was mocking him, especially knowing the impact such things could have on mental health. When Marla had to leave early, Fern would be closing up after her tasks were done. She watered the geraniums and found a push broom she knew had not been there earlier. She returned it to the closet. She remembered leaving the plant food out, but when she went to get the bag, it was gone! She found it back on the shelf where it had belonged! The hoses needed to be wound and put away... but the job had already been completed... and not by her! Her control-freak ex Chris used to do this at home. She texted her boss to thank her for cleaning up, but Marla denied doing it as she had left for her meeting. Will Crew step in to protect Fern if she is being stalked? Will this bring them closer as a couple, or will his fierce determination to keep her safe drive her away from him?

Captivating, action filled read from Black Heart Security with Crew Diaz and Fern Foster Crew Diaz is an ex-Navy fighter pilot that had unfortunately never been able to overcome the loss of his partner and this has haunted him for years and it seems that it has become necessary that he join Black Heart Security where he has been working hard and diligently against men he considered as brothers. Fern Foster to the small town of Willowbrook looking for a simpler life running from her ex and she has run and has tried to find a new life by starting a business of her own and has built up a gardening and landscaping and greenhouse business and she is building an excellent reputation within the small town of Willowbrook. Crew has not been able to avoid noticing the woman that he sees around the small town, dress in gardening overalls with dirt under her nails and a tan on her face from working in the gardens in the sunlight she truly has a love for everything to do with plants and gardening it truly was the love of her life. When Fern realises that she is being watched it is apparent that she needs to more careful because she obviously is at risk and now it seems that the danger is closing in on her and she is not sure exactly where it is coming from and so she has to find some help. Crew steps in and offers to help her and as the threat to her escalates Crew is aware that he is going to have to speak with Fern and ensure that she trusts him to help her if and when she needs his help to keep her safe. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Raw, protective, and beautifully emotional
Fearless Hearts by Em Petrova is everything I love about small-town romantic suspense—wounded souls, fierce devotion, and a love story that heals as much as it burns.
Crew Diaz is a hero carrying heavy survivor’s guilt. Losing his copilot changed him, and you can feel the weight of his PTSD in the way he keeps everyone at arm’s length. He’s strong, capable, and steady—but emotionally locked down. Watching him slowly unravel in the best way because of Fern? So satisfying.
Fern is no fragile heroine. She’s rebuilding her life after her ex, finding strength in muddy boots, greenhouse work, and growing something of her own. I loved that her healing journey mirrors Crew’s. They’re both carrying trauma, both learning how to breathe again, and both terrified of trusting.
When someone starts watching her, the protector instincts kick in hard. Crew shielding her with his big, tattooed frame? Yes, please. But what makes this story deeper is that protecting Fern forces him to confront his own fears. He can’t hide behind work anymore—he has to feel.
There were tears. There was laughter. And the emotional beats hit hard. The found-family vibes at Black Heart Ranch add warmth, grounding the suspense in a supportive community.
This one balances heat, heart, and healing beautifully. If you love damaged heroes, resilient heroines, small-town danger, and romance that feels earned, Fearless Hearts absolutely delivers.
Emotional, intense, and unforgettable. ❤️🔥.

5 STARS: ++ ROMANTIC story full of great characters. I love the characters that live in this series. The Malone family has created a paradise outside of a small western town. The ranch serves many purposes beyond being home to the Malone family. It’s a horse ranch, the offices of Black Heart Security, the Black Heart therapy program for injured Veterans, and the new government special training facility. Everyone at the ranch is awesome, and I would love to be in the middle of that warm acceptance. Crew Diaz is a former Navy fighter pilot who lived through a horrible accident where Connor, his copilot and best friend, died. Crew feels such guilt, and he can’t figure out what comes next. Therapy is helping him, but when he meets Fern, his outlook is turned completely around. They just click. Fern knows PTSD, too, because she ran from her mentally abusive ex and recently landed in Willowbrook. She has a love of plants and is working at a greenhouse and doing side landscaping jobs, and she loves every minute of it. Fern is such a sweet, loving, friendly person, and is loved by everyone… and now by Crew. Their romance was so special, so hopeful and joyous. But there always must be something questionable happening, and someone is stalking Fern. It’s little things until the end of the story, then it is shocking and scary. Crew will overcome his greatest fear to save Fern. I absolutely will re-read this story, as well as the rest of the series. I LOVE the Black Heart Ranch and everything that encompasses, especially the people. I received a free ARC copy of this story from Booksprout in exchange for my opinion. Linda
Fearless Heart is the 9th book in the Black Heart Security series by author Em Petrova. Former Navy Fighter Pilot Crew Diaz is at the Black Heart Ranch suffering from PTSD stemming from the loss of his co-pilot during a training exercise. His whole purpose is to keep his head down, do his work, and not let anyone close enough to him to form an attachment. He's made huge progress while in the program and knows that his time at the ranch is coming to an end. To graduate from the program, he needs to have a plan for the future in place. Too bad he has no idea what he wants to do with his life. Fern Foster is looking for a simpler life- one that's far away from her abusive, controlling ex. Escaping from him and moving to a small town, she's free to embrace a career working with plants. She gets a job in a local greenhouse and begins to do small jobs as a landscaper. Her life's looking up and she's beginning to live the dream! Crew and Fern get teamed up to construct a community garden at the Black Heart Ranch. From the moment they meet, both feel a peace and security in their hearts whenever together. When danger enters Fern's life, can Crew keep her safe with some help from Black Heart Security? Both suffering from forms of PTSD, will their hearts heal enough to allow themselves to take a chance on love and build a future together?
This is yet another installment in a series that is endearing, passionate and with a healthy dose of suspense. This series is addictive and if you haven't already read the previous books, I highly recommend it. A+++
Former Navy pilot, Crews Diaz has been working at Black Heart Ranch as well as participating in the program to assist former military to adjust to civilian life. He hasn’t been able to even contemplate flying since the loss of his best friend and co-pilot. Fern Foster moved to Willowbrook after fleeing, in the night, from a mentally abusive relationship. Now, working at a local nursery, her love of plants has soothed her soul. She has even received requests to design garden areas for residents. She had recently met Crews, one of the men who works at the ranch. Arriving to create a community garden at the ranch, she is delighted that Crews has been assigned to assist her. As they work together, the relationship between them becomes much stronger than friendship…is there a chance for something more between them? When he realizes that she is being targeted, has her ex finally found her? The team at the ranch vows to investigate, as she and Crews work to complete the garden while slowly falling in love. When she is late arriving at the ranch and he is unable to reach her, he finally realizes who has interfered in his life and why. Will he be able to keep his promise to keep her safe? Another amazing addition to this series with an update on previous characters while eagerly awaiting our invitation to the main characters in the next book! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
Fearless Hearts is another gripping installment in the Black Heart Security series. Em Petrova delivers the perfect mix of action, emotional intensity, and swoon-worthy protection that fans of romantic suspense will love.
The hero embodies everything you’d expect from Black Heart Security — skilled, disciplined, and fearless in the face of danger. But what truly makes the story shine is the emotional layer beneath the strength. Watching him balance professional control with personal vulnerability adds real depth to the romance.
The heroine brings resilience and heart to the story, making their dynamic feel balanced and compelling. The chemistry builds naturally alongside the suspense, with danger amplifying their connection rather than overshadowing it.
The pacing is tight and engaging, with enough twists and tension to keep the pages turning while still giving readers the emotional payoff they crave. Longtime fans of the series will appreciate how this book fits seamlessly into the larger Black Heart Security world.
I’d recommend this to readers who love protective heroes, romantic suspense, strong heroines, and stories where loyalty and courage define the relationship. If you enjoy high-stakes romance with genuine heart, this book absolutely delivers.
A thrilling and emotionally satisfying addition to the series.

It’s another mic drop for Em Petrova’s Fearless Hearts, book number 9, of the Black Heart Security series. Fern Foster, newly settled in Willowbrook, is running from an abusive relationship. She is working for the owner of a greenhouse and has finally found her niche, but constant doubts about her self-worth have eroded her confidence. Her controlling ex has groomed her to such a degree that he still retains control of her mind and life. She suffers from PTSD, much like the Navy pilot who lost his copilot in a plane crash due to a mechanical failure. The difference between the two is that he is getting help at the Black Heart Ranch for veterans who need rehabilitation. She is trying to take control of her life on her own. Then weird things start happening—items moved, items disappearing—making Fern think she is crazy, like her ex said she was. That’s when Crew and the Black Heart Security guys step in to help her, but Fern is kidnapped, and Crew must overcome his trauma and fear of flying long enough to save her. It’s a wonderful love story, with chosen family members, and a glimpse into the lives of those who are suffering because of personal loss. I so enjoyed reading this book.

You cannot help but like Crew, he's not the life and soul of a party, but he quietly steps in to help without question, supports the other vets - sometimes without their knowledge and writes to the families of lost he never knew. But he is struggling with his own demons, until Fern, she frazzles his brain and steals his breath. But she also gives him another focus and stops his brain from spiralling. Fern is truly a breath of fresh air, it is delightful to see her get so excited about the rehab garden and it is heartbreaking to know someone tried to crush that spirit. They are so good together and I love that Fern inadvertently helps him face his two biggest demons...flying again and his lost teammate's family. Although I never expected he would face both at the same time! A great addition to the Black Heart Security series, I look forward to many more. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Crew is in the program at Black Heart Ranch after his aircraft malfunctioned and his co-pilot was not able to eject. He has struggled with the loss of his friend but finds solace with his work with the horses. He meets Fern when she drops plants at his feet in the hardware store. She finds him attractive. She is consulting on a garden at the ranch when she meets up with Crew again. He finds her enthusiasm refreshing and enjoys her company. They develop a relationship, but she is being stalked which puts Crew and the rest of the Malone family on edge. There is a stunning rescue event which results in Crew and Church saving Fern from death. This story was a heartwarming read with a realistic portrayal of PTSD, and survivor guilt. The plot was very complex with plot twists and surprises. I binge read this story. I am looking forward to Church's story.

Crew Diaz was member of the Black Heart Ranch veteran program and has seen significant progress, although as former pilot, after losing co-pilot when plane malfunctioned, hadn't flown since...Fern Foster left toxic relationship with former boyfriend and moved to Willowbrook working in greenhouse and starting her own business as landscaper...Ran into each other in town...but no connection until she was looking at designing the community garden for Black Heart Ranch veteran program which she made sure was available to every member of program, including those with special needs. Crew was impressed with the beautiful woman and coming out of his shell with Fern...but looks like Fern being followed and targeted by someone...her ex???, someone else??? You will need to read this thriller to see what happens...I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is book 9 in the Black Heart Security Series. Each of these damaged vets pull at our heart strings and make us root for their HEA. The Black Heart Ranch is special. If you haven’t read any other their stories yet I would highly recommend it.
Crew has watched his friends and brothers find their peace and significant others. He is still struggling but he knows his time at Black Heart is coming to an end. When he bumps into Fern he never thought it would start to change everything. When his past comes for her he has to decide what he will risk to keep her safe.
Fern is starting over. New town, new job and new life. She is just trying to heal and move on. Crew changes everything and as she gets to know him working on the Black Heart Garden. When she starts being followed and things happen Black Heart is there. Crew is there. Are both of them strong enough to weather the storm and come out the other side.
Former Navy fighter pilot Crew Diaz is at Black Heart Ranch, battling PTSD after losing his co-pilot in a training accident. His goal: keep his head down, work hard, and avoid attachments. He’s made real progress and knows his time in the program is nearly over—but he has no clue what comes next. Fern Foster has fled an abusive, controlling ex for a quieter life in a small town. She lands a job at a local greenhouse, takes on landscaping gigs, and finally feels free to chase her dream. When Crew and Fern are paired to build a community garden at the ranch, an instant sense of peace and safety blooms between them. But when danger from Fern’s past resurfaces, Crew steps up—with backup from Black Heart Security—to keep her safe. Both carry scars from their own forms of PTSD. Can their hearts heal enough to trust again, take a chance on love, and build a future together?.

Dark hearts, sharp edges, and the kind of love that bites back.
Fearless Hearts delivers exactly what I’ve come to expect—and crave—from the Blackheart Ranch world. Crew and Fern’s story stays rooted in the gritty loyalty, tight-knit community, and found family that define this series, while turning up the heat and the danger just enough to keep you on edge.
There’s action. There’s mystery. There’s real risk. And yes—there are hot men and a steamy romance simmering beneath it all. Crew and Fern’s connection is undeniable, raw, and earned, proving that love can be both a weapon and a refuge. Healing comes not just through romance, but through friends, family, and the people who stand beside you when everything is on the line.
With the right person, you feel seen, supported, and fierce enough to burn the world down to save them. I’m already looking ahead, and if I’m right… it’s Church’s turn next—and I am more than ready. 🔥
Fearless Hearts is the ninth book in the Black Heart Security series by Em Petrova. This book is another great addition to an action packed series. The story is about Fern Fraser and Crew Diaz. Fern has moved to town to start her life over and live on her own terms. That means she found a job which suits her and she takes pleasure in. Crew is an ex-Navy fighter pilot who moved to the ranch after he his co-pilot was killed during a routine training exercise. He carries that on his heart and now does not let anyone get close to him again. But when Fern is being stalked and things start happening to put her in danger it is Crew who steps in to protect her. Somehow she gets under his skin, past the walls around his heart and into his bloodstream. Meanwhile Fern is not unaffected by the talk, built, broody, and sexy as hell protector. Together they must decide just what will grow between them, and what they will fight to keep.
The Malone family has created an absolute paradise in Willowbrook. This isn't just a ranch; it’s a sanctuary for veterans, security experts, and anyone needing a fresh start. I fell in love with the "found family" atmosphere—the warm acceptance there is something you can truly feel.
Crew and Fern’s story is a beautiful journey of dual healing. Crew, a former Navy pilot struggling with survivor’s guilt, finds his match in Fern, a resilient soul blooming after escaping an abusive past. Their chemistry is instant, hopeful, and joyous.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Black Heart Security novel without a heart-pounding ending! The slow-burn stalking subplot escalates into a shocking finale where Crew has to face his darkest fears to save the woman he loves. A perfect blend of sweet romance and high-stakes suspense.
Another fantastic story. Take a trip to the small town of Willowbrook and get ready to meet the healing souls at Black Heart Ranch. Wounded soldiers with scars not always on the outside and for Crew he doesn’t feel that he is making progress, and doesn’t know what he is going to do when he needs to leave the program and the Ranch.
Fern is moving on after leaving a bad relationship, but things start getting weird, items moved from their original place, put away when she didn’t do it, and small things go missing. When Crew finds out Fern may have a stalker, his protective side engages and their relationship blooms.
Fast paced, great characters and the bite of suspense that glues you to the pages.

Crew Diaz is suffering from PTSD after losing his co-pilot during a training exercise while in the Navy and is now seeking treatment at the Black Heart Ranch. All he wants to do is keep his head down, do the work and not let anyone close. And it’s working, he knows the time will come soon when he has to leave the ranch. Fern left an abusive and controlling ex in search of a calmer simpler life. She loves working in the greenhouse and doing small landscaping jobs. But when she starts to notice things happening that are designed to make her think she is losing her mind, just as her ex tried to make her believe, she realizes she needs help. Crew steps up to help but while they avoid danger and try to keep Fern safe, they also both have to decide if they are willing to trust the other and the future they could have.
Em Petrova is a favorite author of mine and a great writer. When I see a new release from her I literally stop what I’m doing, grab the book, curl up in my reading chair, and let her transport me into a world of fearless rugged alpha men and strong women.
This book is from the Black Heart Series that will have your heart pumping and holding your breath as you learn what Crew and Fern each went through in their personal life before they met. Will Crew ever get over losing his co-pilot in a helicopter going down in flames? Can Fern overcome the abuse she received from her husband and learn to trust again?.

Crew and Fern slowly carve their way into your heart. Their awkward yet sweet first meeting brings an instant smile, setting the tone for something special. Fern is vulnerable yet quietly strong—a burst of sunshine fighting her way out from behind the clouds.
Crew turns up the heat with his alpha-protective edge, delivering plenty of swoon-worthy moments while proving just how deeply he cares. Meanwhile, danger lingers in the background, slowly making its presence known and keeping you guessing as tension builds.
And once again, the Malone family steps in with love, camaraderie, unwavering support, and quiet strength during the darkest times. It’s heartfelt, emotional, and beautifully layered.
Crew Diaz is a former Navy pilot who has been in the therapy program at Black Heart Ranch trying to deal with a training exercise that resulted in his copilot dying. Fern Foster was in an abusive relationship and left in the middle of the night to start over.
I love the mix of characters throughout this series as well as the differing circumstances that bring the couples together, and the fact that we get glimpses of the lives of the couples from previous books. Early on Crew recognizes the signs of Fern's previous abusive relationship and his protective side takes over - although not in a controlling way. By the end, they found not only love but also healing from their past circumstances.
Em Petrova is an absolute Queen when it comes to writing book boyfriends.
Absolute “burn the world down”, protective, delicious men.
Crew, OMG what a sweetheart and Fern is just delightful.
There is plenty of thoughtful spice and sweetness.
Honestly this paragraph made me shed a tear it was so sweet: He chose shades of green. The color of the top Fern wore that day. The bright spring green of the plant she was named after. The color of the pines on the mountains he loved so much. And more just because he knew she’d like them.
GAH!! Chefs kiss!
I love this series so much!! Every single book has been perfection.

This is a great addition to the Black Heart Security series, and tells the story of Crew and Fern.
He is a pilot who is suffering from PTSD after losing his copilot and friend, so he has decided to help in the ranch away from it all. Fern is the new transplant in town, she is rebuilding her world with her new landscaping business. He is attracted to her so when she senses danger around her, he comes to her rescue.
This romantic plot combines suspense, a slow burn, attraction, and a sweet maturing in the MCs. THey will have to learn to open up, and start to heal, she wll be the balm to his pains, and he will give her more than protection.
A must read in your TBR list!.

Book 9 of the Black Heart Security series. Can be read as a standalone but for maximum enjoyment read the books in series order.
'If you love wounded heroes, fierce protectiveness, found family and small-town suspense—with enough heat to steam up your e-reader—you’ll fall hard for Crew and Fern.'
The characters drove the storyline and they were so very appealing and complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was excellent and solidly drawn. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.
Kick back and enjoy the read!.

Fern left one night his abusive boyfriend and disappeared. She gets to Willowbrook and she falls in love with the small town. In her previous life, she worked in a school with small children, now she works with plants. Crew is in the program for veterans in Black Heart Ranch. He was a pilot and lost her copilot when his seat didn’t eject out. He felt broken inside. Both, Crew and Fern, new to heal and they help each other to move from the past and start a new life together, along with all the rest of Black Heart and their spouses and children. This was a beautiful book with mystery, suspense, action, and some fun moments. I enjoyed reading it. It was easy to read and well-written. I enjoyed the story, it has a good storyline that was well written and entertaining. It’s also full of emotions but not all of them good. PTSD is front and center in this story just like the others in this series. Danger is lurking and Fern is the intended victim. The attraction between Fern and Crew was instant and getting stronger with each passing day. It’s good to see that the therapy baby, Navy is still around working her own special sort of magic. Previous characters appear throughout and added to the story. It’s a story that’s worth reading along with the others in this series. Rescuer of neglected plants Fern feels like she’s going crazy with things being moved and suddenly appearing and truck that is following her. Black Heart asks her to build a community garden for them and she turns to them for help with her stalker and Crew in particular. Her ex was extremely controlling and verbally abusive but he’s not the only one with a grudge. Crew needed a reason to move past his survivors guilt and helping and failing for Fern gives him something to focus on. I enjoyed reading about her passion for gardening and it was great to catch up with previous characters in steamy romantic with suspenseful moments series.
Such a great book. Emotional, dramatic and suspenseful.
When pilot Crew meets plant lover Fern while she is found a garden for Black Heart Ranch, he discovers she is in trouble.
Crew is in a quandary in where his life is heading after when he had been through but his instant attraction and connection he has with Fern opens up his world.
I loved that connection they have but also the other people around at the Black Heart that makes the story special.
So well done. A feel good happy ending after the suspenseful climax was just amazing. Can't wait for more.
