I had the opportunity to read this book, and before diving into the story, I want to mention one thing upfront. I’m usually not a big fan of books written in third person. Because of that, I really tried to put my personal preference aside and focus on the story itself.
Story: The story follows our FMC, Sonja “Sunni” Reed [Omega], who ran away from her abusive ex-boyfriend Derek [Beta]. On her first day in Vegas, she meets Malcolm [Alpha], who quickly becomes a supportive friend. Malcolm helps her through many challenges and even trains with her at the gym so she can learn how to protect herself.
Our MMC, Lennox “Nox” Fitzgerald [Prime], is a professional MMA fighter who has an upcoming fight in Vegas and needs a place to train. He ends up at the same gym where Sunni works out, and that’s where the two meet.
They share an instant connection, and I really enjoyed the way the relationship between the MMC and FMC develops. Their communication felt genuine, and I especially liked how sweet and caring Nox is towards Sunni, despite being a Prime.
However, with Nox’s fight approaching and the media paying attention, Sunni risks being discovered by her dangerous ex. Together, they have to navigate the challenges and emotional ups and downs that stand between them and their happy ever after. If you want to find out what they go through to reach their HEA, you should definitely give this book a try.
Personal opinion: At times, the writing felt a little rough and occasionally confusing for me. That might partly be because the story is written in third person, which isn’t usually my preferred style. Still, the story itself had a lot of potential and was overall an enjoyable read.
If you’re someone who enjoys third-person narration and you’re looking for an omegaverse story with tension, emotional connection, and romance, this might be a book worth checking out.
Oh, fyi.. while I did receive an ARC, I also purchased my own copy.
Hear me out lol
The author's books don't exactly hit the cozy mark, they're intense and often filled with realistic and violent situations. However, they're not the overwhelmingly heavy , where the tone of the book borders on despair or ugliness that you may encounter in dark omegaverse.
This one features a pair, so it's a departure from her last two why choose books, but the same elements of omegaverse appear within the story.
If I had one reservation, it's that multiple times on the page it switches from Sunni to Sonja. While Sunni is the nickname, it's how she thinks of herself, and how her mate, Nox, addresses her. When it goes back and forth between the names ..in one paragraph, it's Sunni, in the next one, it's Sonja. I found that a little bit jarring while I was reading.
There's a side plot that focuses on Malcolm, Sunni's friend and trainer and Geo, a good friend of Nox's. I am quite interested to see if that goes anywhere in future books perhaps?
“She could ask for the moon, and he’d get it for her.” This book is giving Rocky Balboa but make it smutty. It’s an alpha boxer who’s done boxing. It’s an omega artist who’s done running. But mostly, it’s a beautiful contemporary omegaverse about finding love and finding where you belong. It’s drama and trauma, but the MC’s weather it all together to come out on top. No 3rd act breakup, just a love story between an FMC trying to rebuild her life, and a big scary MMC who is actually a major softie, especially for her. *Swoon*
