Bring Them Home is book 16 in the Detective Amanda Steele series by Carolyn Arnold. This book kept me glued to the pages for its entirety and that is very rare! I absolutely loved the book and I can't believe it's the first book I've read in the series. There are several parts in the book that will give you chills from the fear of what's happening. Amanda is called on her day off because a family has gone missing. The mother's car is found abandoned at the local mall with her purse and cellphone on the front seat. She had gone to pick up her daughter from the mall. The daughter is also missing after being at the mall with a couple of friends. The father is an elementary school teacher and is supposed to be Amanda's daughter's teacher this year. School just started, but he never showed up and never called. Why would a family just vanish? The son is in the hospital ill and has been for a few months. He is still there and not a part of whatever is going on.
As Amanda and Trent, her partner, interview friends and colleagues it becomes clear this family was well liked, not in debt, and seemed to have a normal life. What would be the motive for taking them? When they get security footage from the mall, they see a black van pull into the spot next to the mother's car and then the mother is gone. The van backs out and she and her daughter were taken. When remains are discovered in a field the case could now be linked to a missing person's case from years ago. The woman was never found. Will Amanda and Trent be able to pull the clues together and discover who's taken this family before it's too late? This is a fast paced thriller that you won't be able to get out of your mind. When I wasn't able to read it, I was telling others about it! Yes, it's that good! I can't wait to read more books in the series and I look forward to book 17. Bring Them Home is out now and if you love a good thriller this book is for you! I rate Bring Them Home 5 stars with my very highest recommendation. Bring Them Home is the 16th book in the Detective Amanda Steele book and it kept me on the edge of my seat. Amanda and her partner Trent Stenson head to the local mall to investigate a car that has been there for a few days. The owner's purse and phone are still in the car and she hasn't been seen for three days. She is the wife of Zoe's teacher, who hasn't been to school for the last few days. Watching video footage from the mall, it appears the Valerie Archer and her daughter Brooke were abducted from the mall. The next day, they are called to the grisly discovery of a body in a cornfield that had been scavenged by vultures, that is identified as Paul Archer. Amanda and Trent are on the clock, knowing that the longer it takes to find Valerie and Brooke, the less chance of finding them alive. They follow the clues, but when WITSEC shows up asking about Paul's sister who's been missing for 8 years, they realized that this case might be bigger than they originally thought.
Oh my goodness, this was one excellent ride. Amanda and Trent are a great team and always solve those crimes that seem unsolvable, but this one was tough. Three were a few suspects, but they all seemed to have alibis. As Amanda began to suspect something bigger than they originally thought, things become even more frantic. This book has corruption from the top down, and a crime lord who has a reach everywhere. Will they be able to prove their hypothesis? Are there criminals that are untouchable? Will they put themselves in danger? I had so many questions while I was reading this one and my stomach clenched more than once. The book ends on somewhat of a cliff hanger, but it is one that will lead into the next story and I want it now! A fast paced story, with lots of twists, some personal life which added a highly emotional storyline, and a crime that is tough to solve. If you enjoy a good crime thriller, than you should pick up Bring Them Home, or any book in the Detective Amanda Steele series.

Carolyn Arnold has done it again! Bring Them Home is a high stakes investigation that had me hooked from the first page.
When a family disappears in plain sight, bundled into a van from a shopping centre car park the clock starts ticking.
Watching Detective Amanda Steele and her partner Trent hit dead end after dead end while chasing this ordinary family's trail is deeply frustrating, and it makes every passing moment feel urgent. When human remains are discovered, the search turns into a race against at least one cold blooded killer.
At the core of this story is the bond between Amanda and Trent. Their dynamic shifts in subtle, interesting ways this time around, but their loyalty to each other remains the true heart of the investigation.
What gave this book its emotional punch for me was how personal the case becomes for Amanda. Her daughter Zoe is traumatised by yet another tragedy touching her young life, and Amanda's fierce determination to protect her is handled beautifully, adding an intense personal drive to an already desperate search.
As the layers of the mystery fold together, the story races toward a completely unexpected reveal that had me flying through pages. Bring Them Home is a heart pounding ride and an absolute must read for thriller fans.

Detective Amanda Steele is back again with her fabulous partner, Detective Trent Stenson. This time they have a head scratcher to solve. A husband, wife and daughter are missing and the only clue is the wife’s abandoned car in a parking lot with her purse and phone inside the vehicle. This victims do not fit your average victim profile which is puzzling at first. But you know Amanda Steele is like a dog with a bone, and once she starts digging what she finds is horrifying and almost unbelievable.
Crime thrillers do not get much better than this one. The pacing was perfect, as well as the scattered clues throughout. I knew something stunk to high heaven, and the final reveal was worth the price of admission.

I thought it was foreshadowing of the attitude Zoe would have in just a few more years.
I was perplexed by the case because none of the pieces for together, until they finally snapped in place.
A little more progress was made for my fondest hope.

Bring Them Home by Carolyn Arnold is a very highly recommended procedural/crime thriller and the 16th book in the series set in Prince William County, Virginia, featuring Detective Amanda Steele. This is another excellent addition to the series.
A family disappears and evidence shows they have been kidnapped. Detective Amanda Steele and her partner Detective Trent Stenson are first alerted to the crime when officer Traci Cochran is called out to investigate a car that has been in a mall parking lot for several days. At the scene through the window is observe a purse with a phone on the front seat inside, something a person would not leave behind for days. It is determined that the missing family is Paul, Valerie, and their teen daughter Brooke Archer. (Their son Landon has been hospitalized for months.) A black van is filmed on security cameras holding those who abducted Brooke and Valerie at the mall, while is taken Paul at another location.
While investigating, the team is called out to a remote farm field where the remains of a body have been found. It is a gruesome scene as the vultures have been at the body. (It was not "charred" as written in the synopsis.) Their activity was the indication to the farmer that something dead was in his field. The body is that of Paul Archer, who also happened to be Amanda's adopted daughter Zoe's teacher, which opens up a whole other trauma. Then Amanda uncovers a connection to a woman who went missing ten years ago and the case becomes even more complicated.
This is another excellent, compelling addition to the series of well-written, fast-paced, and well-plotted procedurals. The tension increases as Amanda and Trent logically follow the clues and discoveries as the investigation uncovers several suspects, lines of inquiry are expanded, and unexpected information is revealed. Even though this is the 16th book in the series, it can be appreciated as a standalone novel, especially for fans of procedurals who enjoy carefully following logical, complicated investigations rather than personalities.

They are fully realized characters who always logically follow the clues and information they discover. Amanda is a strong woman and this time out she must also deal with Zoe being re-traumatized. As always, the biggest thanks to Bookouture for once again inviting me to be part of the Books on Tour for the latest installment of the completely addictive Detective Amanda Steele series. I honestly can't believe it's already book #16, it feels like last week when I picked up the first book and was transported into Amanda's world, I've been happily stuck there ever since. This is a series that sucks every fibre of being into it's pages, the world surrounding you disappears for a short time and you are taken into whichever case Amanda is dragged into.
In book #16 Amanda is brought in, along with Trent and her team, to investigate the disappearance of a local woman called Valerie Archer, along with her school teacher husband Paul and teenage daughter Brooke. Why would anyone want to take a whole family?
When the husbands body is found, scavenged by vultures, in a farmers unharvested field, the race is on to find the others before it's too late.
Hitting dead ends time and time again, frustration hits an all time high, until Amanda uncovers something that might blow everything up. Is this case related to a woman's disappearance from years before and if so, is someone in her force involved?
This was a real multi layer plot that weaved intricate twists and turns in perfectly and had me on the edge multiple times.
For real fans of this series, we all know the backstory of not only Amanda's traumatic past but also that of her adoptive daughters Zoe and this case really tests both of them. Paul Archer was due to be Zoe's new teacher so when she learns the truth she is devastated. That devastation manifests into her taking it out on Amanda, in ways that hurt deeply.
It's at personal times like this that Trent really steps up and shows how much he cares for his partner and her daughter. Their friendship is enviable but also dangerous, with that constant 'will they, wont they?' bubbling under the surface.
Now, the only negative is the ending.... not because it was rubbish but because it didn't end 🤣 we've been left hanging by the thinnest thread, over a cliff without any answers! So roll on Book #17 .... I NEED TO KNOW.....

I picked up Bring Them Home expecting another solid entry in Carolyn Arnold’s Detective Amanda Steele series, and it delivered exactly the kind of tense crime thriller I’ve come to like from her.
From the opening pages the sense of dread is immediate and personal…. an ordinary family vanishes in broad daylight, leaving behind little more than a mother’s abandoned car in a mall parking lot with her phone and purse still inside….. That simple, chilling image sets the tone for everything that follows.
Amanda and her partner Trent dig into the lives of the missing parents and their teenage daughter, only to confirm what their instincts already suggested, this was no voluntary disappearance!
CCTV catches the mother and daughter being forced into a black van, and the investigation shifts into higher gear.
When human remains turn up in a remote field, the case deepens and darkens, connecting to a decade old disappearance and, most unsettling of all, pointing toward someone inside the police department itself.
What I liked most was how the author keeps the focus tight on the procedural work without sacrificing the emotional weight of the family’s situation.
Amanda’s determination feels genuine, you sense the pressure she and Trent are under as the clock ticks and the possibility of more victims looms.
The farmhouse setting, isolated and surrounded by empty fields, becomes a recurring image that heightens the isolation and helplessness of the captives. The twists land with satisfying force, especially the way the older case folds into the present one, and the internal threat within the department adds a layer of paranoia that keeps the tension high right through the final pages.
This is the sixteenth book in the series, yet it stands comfortably on its own. (I’ve only read a couple of this series, and at some point I’m definitely going back.)
The pacing is relentless in the best way, once the abduction is confirmed I found myself reading far later than I intended, 😜 unwilling to put the book down until the pieces clicked into place.
If you enjoy police procedurals that balance solid investigative detail with genuine emotional stakes and the occasional gut punch twist, Bring Them Home is a great addition to the Amanda Steele series.

Bring Then Home by Carolyn Arnold is an Amanda Steele novel, a police procedural. A frightening story of murder and kidnapping, all of it intentionally cruel and amazingly gruesome. It started with a car abandoned in a shopping mall parking lot. As Amanda and Trent followed the trail, they found videos of each of the three: Mr and Mrs Archer, and their daughter, being taken by people in a black van. After following several false leads, they finally find the correct one and followed it. Sadly, Not until Mr. Archer’s body has been found. The sad news for Amanda is that Mr Archer was a popular teacher at Zoe’s school and had been scheduled to be Zoe’s teacher this year. The news Amanda had to impart caused her daughter to relive the trauma of watching her own parents be murdered yeas earlier. Another cause of additional stress for Amanda is the continued desire she has for a relationship with her partner, Trent, who currently is in a relationship with someone else that is working.
Amanda has lived through a lot and her job as a homicide detective continues to remind her of how cruel the work can be. This particular novel is additionally difficult because Mr Archer’s sister had been “snatched” seven years earlier and she was the wife of another detective in the area. The question of whether this crime was related was on everyone’s mind, as well. Amanda is a terrific character and the crimes she helps solve are usually horrific, but unveiled in a way the makes the story incredibly readable as wall as palatable. Arnold is a gifted writer with both characters development and the plotting of a mystery novel. Drugs, corruption, trauma, and cruelty. Be warned. Highly recommend.

The question of whether this crime was related was on everyone’s mind, as well. Amanda is a terrific character and the crimes she helps solve are usually horrific, but unveiled in a way the makes the story incredibly readable as wall as palatable. Arnold is a gifted writer with both characters development and the plotting of a mystery novel. Drugs, corruption, trauma, and cruelty. Be warned. Highly recommend.

The progress that Amanda Steele has made since book one continues to blow me away! I love how she grows both personally and professionally with each book while solving horrendous crimes.
A deserted car at the mall sets off the investigation into the missing Archer family. Amanda has a personal connection to the case as the father, Paul, is supposed to be her daughter Zoe's teacher for the upcoming school year. Zoe was really looking forward to having the beloved teacher. She's experienced a lot of difficult losses as a young child and Amanda wants to try and prevent another one.
But when Paul's body shows up on a farm of an older couple, the case takes on a darker twist. As her and Trent begin investigating, they learn that Paul's sister also went missing a decade earlier. This opens the door to a lot of connections and suspects.
I love that throughout the investigation, we're not just told that law enforcement and investigators do their job, but explained the process along the way. It helps pull you deeper into the case and makes you desperate to want to solve it along with them.
Trent and Amanda are still attempting to maintain their professional boundaries, but it's obvious there is more than a partner feeling between them. I love the extra tension that it adds!
Amanda has made plenty of enemies on the job and I admire how she doesn't let that stop her from pursuing justice. It often puts her and her family at risk -- but her strength is inspiring.

The main story starts a few days later with a call about an abandoned car belonging to Valerie Archer at the shopping mall. But it is not just a car, Valerie’s purse and phone are inside. This looks very suspicious and the case is passed to Detectives Amanda Steele and partner Trent Stenson.
Amanda’s 10 year old adopted daughter Zoe had only just told her that her teacher Mr Archer hadn’t turned up for school yet this term. And yes of course, we soon find out that they are one and the same, intertwining the investigation and personal sides of this story.
This book is a real page turner, as each snippet revealed leaves you avidly reading to find the next clue.

Despite exploring every possible avenue, the detectives have very little to go on, except CCTV footage showing the pair being bundled into a black Transit van. With time running out, can the PWCPD detectives uncover the truth and bring them home before it’s too late?
I was completely gripped and read this book in one marathon session! Carolyn’s novels always manage to draw me in, and this one was certainly no exception.
My heart continues to go out to Amanda. the safety of her own daughter is paramount and plays on her mind and her belief that her feelings for Trent aren’t reciprocated adds another layer to everything she is dealing with. And her determination to rid the world of all the bad guys? Let’s just say it keeps me very invested! 😂
If you’ve enjoyed Carolyn’s books before, you definitely won’t want to miss this one. And if you’re new to the series, don’t hesitate to grab a copy. You can read it as a standalone, although reading the previous books will definitely enhance the experience and give you a better understanding of Amanda’s journey.

Bring Them Home was an intense read and a great addition to Carolyn Arnold's Detective Amanda Steele series. Amanda gets called out to a scene that begins a search for a missing family. She and Trent begin to dig into the family and are puzzled as to why anyone would target the family. Then the father is found which impacts Amanda as Paul was supposed to be her daughter Zoe's teacher. Now Amanda is dealing with struggling with Zoe's past trauma coming back as well as searching for the wife and daughter. The balance is helped by Amanda's mom Jules who steps up to be there when Amanda needs to work. As she and Trent begin to uncover potential clues in the case, a federal marshal comes calling wanting information on Paul's sister Abigail, who went missing years ago. This throws their theories in a different direction and brings in a old case and foe. The more they dig, the more uncover, the less they know who to trust. It is a roller coaster ride of suspense, mystery and relationships. While this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone as the author gives enough backstory of the characters to explain everything. It is a fast paced, well written story that is hard to put down once you start reading.

They only discover that the group had been abducted when they observed a video from that time. Later, Mr. Archer was found dead in a farmer's field, but no sign of Brooke and her mother. They discovered something regarding the mother, but later found it was a false lead. A 2nd lead finally was discovered through a meeting with a U.S. deputy marshal. It was through this discussion that something began to give Amanda and Trent a glimpse of why the abduction was made.
Follow Amanda and Trent as they follow multiple leads in hopes of finding Brooke and her mother still alive. Discover what the reason for the abduction was, who was responsible and what other discoveries were made.
The story will definitely keep your interest right till the end. This is definitely a book well worth the read, don't miss out!

A mother and daughter mysteriously disappear, leaving behind their family vehicle in a mall parking lot. Detective Amanda Steele and her partner, Trent, are called to the scene. While it seems like the two females vanished into thin air, an examination of video from the mall reveals that they were kidnapped by unknown perps with a non-descript van. To further complicate things, the husband/dad of the family is also missing. A sone with cancer is still accounted for in the hospital. The investigation leads Amanda and Trent to another missing person who is the wife of a fellow officer. It's a perplexing case with few obvious clues. When a dead body is found, the race to find the other missing people heats up. When Amanda's daughter is threatened, she must also face her ex-husband's threats to take away the one thing Amanda has to treasure in her life. It's a suspenseful read that keeps your heart racing until the end. I can't wait to see what happens next for Amanda.

Highly addictive, top-notch suspense! Arnold always delights me with a new visit with Amanda and Trent as I try to keep up with them as a new case wraps itself around their mind and settles in for the long haul. Still no closer to seeing them admit their feelings for each other, but every interaction was satisfying this time.
This story brings some familiar faces into play occasionally throughout as a missing family case turns increasingly ugly when they realize a connection that brings it all too close to home and suspect corruption in their own back yard. I really enjoyed the high octane feel to the case as well as the small amount of downtime that we get to see Amanda having to deal with the fallout of her job at home.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who enjoys a talented female detective who always solves her case no matter how much the bad guys try to stop her. I always leave already looking forward to seeing her again!

Bring Them Home is a very enjoyable and thrilling read. Whilst it is part of a series I think this book can be read on its own. It has a great start that immediately grabbed my attention and interest and pulled me into the story straightaway. The authors writing is very entertaining and the story flows well. The plot is well thought out with lots of threads that certainly kept me guessing and wanting to know what would come next. I love the mystery and suspense the author brings to her writing. And that ending - how to set the next book up perfectly - and making it one I will definitely be wanting to read! Well done Carolyn Arnold!

Bring Them Home by Carolyn Arnold is the 16th book in the excellent Detective Amanda Steele series and WoW what another addictive read this was. I knew once I start reading this latest book within this series I will be reading it till the very end, and I was not wrong. This book was fast paced, full of excellent twists and turns which made it was a roller coaster ride. I just love this main characters especially Detective Amanda Steele who is excellent and her partner Trent Stenson is excellent as well. They work so well together and always solve their cases!
I highly recommend this latest installment of Detective Amanda Steele series and Carolyn's books have always been a big 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ and this one was No different. Superb read.

I really enjoy the Amanda Steele series. She is one of my favourite detectives, along with Trent, her partner.
She has so much empathy, and has a dogged determination to get justice for the victims.
Her home life doesn't always run smoothly. I really felt for her in this book, Zoe, her ten year old daughter has quite a few problems associated with her past, and Amanda doesn't always get treated like a Mom should.
I could barely put this book down, it is fast paced and thrilling. This instalment deals with the kidnapping of a family, and the stabbing of one of the kidnapped victims.
Amanda had a suspect, and he really did look good for the crime, all the pieces fit. But there were other suspects to consider as well.

Another absolutely awesome installment of the Amanda Steele series!!!
This book involves a family kidnapping which lends itself to a pretty fast paced plot. I love the involvement of some of the police characters we've met in the recent books and a couple of the family characters were also more involved and I loved that. The whole thing was great. My only criticism is that I **love** a slow burn, but we're in book sixteen now and it's starting to get to the point where Amanda needs to go or get off the pot for lack of a better phrase. To this point I've loved the slow burn Amanda/Trent situation, but at this point either put your cards on the table or let him go be with Kelsey for real and move on. The series will be great either way.

What Amanda and Trent will discover is a web of lies, deceit and corruption involving members of the law and justice and drug dealer kingpin. This case will place Amanda and her loved ones in danger and the next book will hopefully clear this situation. Bring Them Home is an easy to read, fast-paced police procedural, and a great addition to the series.

(4.5) Left lasting thoughts and emotions and with me holding my breath for the next one. This reaches out from the first sentence in the prologue and keeps you riveted till the end. Amanda and Trent make a great law enforcement partner. The plot held twists that I did not expect, and the ending had me going "oh no!" I thoroughly enjoy the relationship between Zoe and Amanda and the realism that comes through for single parenting and working. I do hold reservations with Trent being in a serious relationship when he has feelings for Amanda. But that's me. Thank you so much for the advanced copy. What another great installment in the Detective Amanda Steele series!
This book was tense from the very first page. I raced through this book in only a couple of days because I was desperate to find out what happened next. This case was so heartbreaking. There was so much unnecessary loss.
Amanda as always was way too hard on herself. She blames herself even when things are not her fault. She also thinks people judge her as a mother more than they do. She has a tough job juggling motherhood and being a detective.
Trent and Amanda are a good team and they always have each others back. As always they are determined to find the truth.
You can feel the toll this case takes on everyone throughout this book. It just radiates from the page.

is the sixteenth book in the Detective Amanda Steele series by Carolyn Arnold. This series is set in and near Woodbridge, Virginia in Prince William County. A seemingly ordinary family goes missing and the only evidence left behind is the mother’s abandoned car in a shopping mall parking lot. The woman’s purse and cell phone are on the front seat. But why would anyone target a mother, a teenage girl, and a dedicated father and elementary school teacher?
Amanda and her detective partner Trent Stenson talk with friends and family, as well as work colleagues to no avail. Finally, they find security footage of the mother and daughter getting into and unmarked black van. They’re looking at an abduction. The investigation evolves after that into a suspenseful race against time. Can Amanda and Trent put the pieces together and save the family?
Amanda is determined to get justice for victims and tends to get immediately to the point at a crime scene which doesn’t always endear her to others. She’s sensitive but not soft, inquisitive, resilient, empathetic, resilient, intuitive, capable, struggles with work-life balance, and tends to rush ahead without back-up at times. She also fears overlooking some crucial detail in a case. Trent is loyal, grounded, observant, dependable, and perseverant, funny, and always has Amanda’s back. He grounds her when she needs it and is often the voice of reason. He values honesty and views work as a calling, not a day job.
The story starts with a dark and chilling prologue before switching to the investigation. This police procedural has plenty of mystery and suspense to go with the investigation and kept this reader rapidly turning the pages. The story has some unpredictable twists and high-stakes. The story also spends some time on the personal and professional layers and relationships making it feel more realistic and relatable. The recurring characters grow more dynamic in each new novel as readers learn more about them. There’s action, secrets, a puzzle to be solved, missing persons, corruption, grief, trauma, family relationships, and much more to entice readers.
Overall, this is a compelling, gripping, and fast-paced crime thriller with great characterization. I can’t wait to find out what is next for Amanda and Trent. This series is best read in order to fully understand the backstories of the main characters. However, it would also work as a standalone. It’s a must-read for those who enjoy mysteries, crime thrillers, and police procedurals.
