When I needed a date to my sister’s wedding, my late husband’s best friend seemed like the perfect solution.
I’ve known Frasier since college, and he was my husband’s teammate on the Hollywood Hawks—LA’s pro hockey team. At least until eighteen months ago, when a tragic accident upended everything.

As my world crumbled around me, Frasier was there for me.
We’ve been through a lot together, so I suppose it isn’t surprising that Frasier has become my best friend. The person I always turn to.
Which is how I find myself asking him to be my fake date to my sister’s wedding.

But after a game of truth or dare goes too far, I realize that Frasier isn’t pretending, was never pretending. And I’m not sure I am either. _______________________________

My first Jenna Hartley book!

Bryn is a young widow. Her husband was a NHL player who died suddenly a few years ago. Her rock all this time? His best friend Fraiser (also her friend too). He's spent time with her, owns two dogs with her, and takes care of things around her house.

Bryn believes she had her love story and now that its over, so is any romance for her.

When she tells her sister shes dating and does have a date for her wedding, Fraiser steps up. Hes cared for Bryn for so long but seems to be lodged into the friend zone. Maybe a destination wedding where they're pretending to date will get them closer.

Closer it does! There's games being played, dancing, ONE BED... it becomes a wonderful change. Fake it until it becomes real.

Theres also some complications. What will everyone think now that Bryn has moved on? The world can be so judgemental especially on the internet.

I loved how devoted Fraiser was. He was so down for her! There wasn't a lot of backstory to the past (just some tidbits) so I think they were good friends but not like they are nowm They were a family before they were a family. Bryn also had a great group of friends.

The ending, surprised even me, but I like the unexpected. I hope to read more from this world soon!

Fraiser was a rock. I loved that not only was he Bryns deceased husbands best friend, but he was hers in her time of need after his passing. Talk about a great guy. Him and Bryn were great friends. But she needs a date for a destination wedding, and Fraiser would love to get out of that friend zone. Bryn feels things for Fraiser too but Sue’s not sure how to navigate things since he was her husbands best friend. And boy do people love to paint their own pictures, especially on the Internet.
I loved that Fraiser was hoping that this wedding would bring her walls down and override her concerns. They’re such a great couple together, whether they’re faking or not. They just work. And the two of them were so sweet and just wonderful people.
I loved how easily it was to be pulled into this story. It was so captivating and cozy. Truly loved Bryn and Fraiser. They were perfect together. And the support they got from everyone was so loving.

I found this book sent me on a full and emotional journey with Frasier and Bryn. It told the story of love and a life after one love was lost, and another found after it, and how they learned to co-exist together.

Bryn is a young widow; her husband Derek passed away from an unexpected health condition, and she is alone for the first time in her life. Helping her through this is Derek’s best friend and hockey teammate, Frasier ‘Fizzy’ Holmes. Frasier has been crushing on Bryn for years, but naturally didn’t say anything because she was married to Derek, and they became good friends instead. Now, a year or so later, Derek is no longer here, and Bryn needs a fake date for her sister's wedding to stop her family from trying to set her up.

I love fake dating. I always enjoy seeing how it progresses from fake to feelings. I felt this one seemed so natural; they were comfortable with each other, but also both felt wary due to their relationships with Derek.

I adored Frasier; he lived up to his other nickname of Bear, he was a big, cuddly boy, he felt strongly about things, and his genuine love and devotion to Bryn was joyous. I could understand Bryn’s concern; she was still partly grieving Derek and yet trying to understand and process her feelings for Frasier.

I never enjoy the surprise pregnancy trope, but fortunately, it came late enough in the book that I could still enjoy the romance without it being a major trope.

Great read! Very emotional and comforting story, mostly about moving on and finding life continues after grief. How love finds you in the least expected ways or people. As always Jenna does a great job with her characters and their stories. The chemistry between the mc’s is great, from flirting to the steamy moments it all raps up perfectly. I always enjoy Jenna’s books and this one I can specially recommend!

Frasier and Bryn had both lost one of the most important people in their lives. Frasier lost a best friend and teammate and Bryn lost her husband and one of her best friends. They leaned on each other for support throughout the difficult times and there were a lot given how public their lives are. One pitfall of being a professional athlete is how the general public feels entitled to access, privacy is a luxury and extremely hard to maintain. Bryn's grief and how she handles herself after Derek's death has been public fodder for over a year. She wants to live her life but preserving his legacy is also important to her. Can she move on?

I loved how Frasier and Bryn's friendship grew stronger and deeper during their time of shared grief. What they didn't realize was that more feelings were growing as well. Frasier realized first but Bryn wasn't too far behind. When forced to find a date for her sister's destination wedding or be subjected to a blind date, Bryn created a fake relationship with Frasier. He was her first thought and the only man she wanted with her even though the thought of moving on scared her. The thought of starting something more with Frasier scared her too because the risk of losing him too was something she didn't want to risk.

When Bryn asked Frasier to be her "boyfriend" for the wedding, he knew that his feelings had evolved into more. He was scared that she wasn't ready but his teammates encouraged him to act like her boyfriend and show her how good they could be together for real. Yes they missed their friend and teammate but they wanted both Frasier and Bryn to be happy. A meddling sister, helped Frasier's plan by creating romantic opportunities and satisfying results. Feelings were explored during the vacation and continued after returning home.

Over the course of the remainder of the off-season and the beginning of the new season, Frasier and Bryn evolved their new relationship behind closed doors. Maintaining some sense of privacy while hinting at a budding relationship. Bryn was caught between Derek's legacy and supporting her new man. The fans could be brutal and made boththeir support or displeasure well known. The public scrutiny and the unexpected news after a game made Bryn question everything. She was overwhelmed and scared. Was loving Frasier and starting a new life with him worth the risk? Could she overcome her fear of losing everything again? Could she let go of the dreams she shared with Derek and live a new dream with Frasier? Could she keep find a balance between being Frasier's girl and Derek's widow?

I loved Frasier and Bryn's story and the evolution of their love. Finding your path after such a tragedy would be difficult without the extra publicity. I would recommend this book to anyone.

I did rate this book 4 stars because at times, I felt there were times things seemed abbreviated. Like the storyline ended too soon with no resolution. Things that I felt were important but were then briefly mentioned in later chapters. I'm not sure if this was due to word count or if it was corrected in the final draft but that was my only reasoning for the 4/5 stars instead of 5. Bryn and Frasier were definitely capable of being a 5 star read!!!!

Thank you Jenna Hartley and The Author Agency for the ARC and the opportunity to review this wonderful book!

Oh boy, what can I say. What an emotional rollercoaster of a ride.
You will all love Bryn and Frasier's story, just as I did, I am sure!
Entering a world where someone has lost the one most dear to you is hard. For Bryn, losing Derek was the end for her, or so she thought.

“I think that my husband died and my life got flipped upside down and I’m doing the best I can.”

As Bryn struggled through the aftermath of the sudden death of Derek, Frasier was there for it all. By her side during the really bad days to the not so bad days. Being Derek's best friend, he too felt the loss immensely.
The writing of this book is done in such a respectful manner, it does resonate with me....as I too have gone through that grief process myself.
So insightful as Jenna Hartley navigates this very sensitive topic with respect and ease.
I truly felt all Bryn's emotions and the struggle to move on to her next chapter of her life without her husband. But could she do it with her now best friend, Frasier?
So when she was thrown so many options to go out and be seen again, by her sister, Allie, Bryn did the only thing she could think of to get her off her back, stating that she already had someone to go to her wedding with....That would be Frasier. Allie insisted she needed a plus 1, so Frasier it was!
Frasier, by this time was actually beginning to have feelings for Bryn, which he would never do anything about, because she is Derek's widow...who was his best friend. So wrong on so many levels!
That was until "truth or dare" at the pre wedding dinner.....
Did Bryn have feelings for Frasier? Hmmmm Frasier certainly liked...no more than liked Bryn and when they finally got to the wedding destination and there is one room, with one bed, with a welcome gift from Allie that included Condoms....LOL yeh does the heat dial up! Yep! It sure does.
So many emotions are involved in leaving your past behind...leaving Derek behind....but wanting a future too!
This story encapsulates it all and you will love how Frasier, Bryn's Bear, knows just what to say, when to say it and how to show his love for her without missing a beat in making sure Derek is along for the ride.
Bring the tissues ladies as this story certainly warrants it and I was so happy at the HEA that Jenna gave these guys! Chef kiss...perfect!!
Oh and to not forget all the hockey jargon within the story...that was exceptional to manage with such an intense love story! But done well!

Life is meant to be lived!

This may be my favorite Jenna Hartley book of all time! Ah, it was just so, so good. Okay, the tropes are: hockey romance, fake dating, late husband's teammate/best friend, friends to lovers, he falls first and hard (so very hard), only one bed, destination wedding date and close proximity. And there may just be another surprise trope in the story too. These are some of my favorite tropes BUT I’m often a little leery about widow/widower storylines. No need to worry here Jenna Hartley absolutely scored with this one. Grief and loss are always hard, but this book just handled it with care. In fact, I loved how it was handled here. Bryn’s grief was felt and real and she wasn’t forced to give up the part of her that loved Derek, her late husband, in order to move on with Frasier. I loved that Derek was always honored and not just used as a cheap plot device and forgotten.

I don’t know how to adequately describe how much I adore our main characters, Bryn and Frasier. They are real and raw and love with their whole hearts. Bryn is strong and caring and wants to do the right thing so badly. And Frasier is PEAK book husband material. Full stop. Gah! The way that he loves Bryn and just shows up for her in just the way she needs is something else. He’s the whole package but don’t take my word for it, you need to read this book to see for yourself. And the chemistry between Bryn and Frasier jumps off the page. Suffice it to say that they are everything. Oh, and they actually communicate with each other like adults. The only wobble in their relationship is when they don’t communicate but that is righted pretty quickly. Throw in some rescue dogs (Bacon and Biscuit), a great girl squad, and a hockey band of brothers and you just can’t get a better cast of book characters.

The only reason that I didn’t give this a full five stars is because of the Jules (Frasier’s brother) storyline. It was just unnecessary and we didn’t get a full resolution. I’m not mad about it, but it didn’t add to the story for me.

Jenna Hartley pulls off a hat trick with this one by delivering an interesting and engaging plot, deeply real and lovable characters, and an emotional depth that gives you all the feels and sticks with you. If you’re a fan of the late husband's teammate/best friend trope or even if you’re not, don’t sleep on this one!

Make You Mine can be read as a standalone.

Oh my goodness this was an emotional rollercoaster, full of tears and smiles. This love after loss romance balances the past and present so well and I tend to be hesitant when it comes to this trope. Derek’s passing hit me particularly hard as I’ve lost a loved one in almost the exact same way. What I will forever say is that the detail Jenna Hartley puts into her books just takes them to another level for me. The tattoo and butterflies got me in a way I did not expect, the hope and careful remembrance was beautifully done.

Frasier is the ultimate and dreamiest book boyfriend, no husband. His loyalty and protectiveness were just some of the things that made him completely irresistible. I loved both him and Bryn. This book reminded me why I enjoy friends to lovers (I’ve been in an enemies to lovers phase). The trust, playfulness, care and respect from the very first page made me even more invested in Bryn and Frasier’s relationship. The chemistry between them … no notes. But you might need to cool down after reading this book!

I have always loved sports romance where the team dynamic is strong so this was a fantastic read to me. There are already so many memorable characters that I now want a book for! Gabe was hilariously awesome and I’m definitely getting a vibe between Logan and a certain brother’s rival.

I loved this book, I loved the plot, I loved all the little details and I absolutely loved Frasier and Bryn’s healing, heartfelt journey. I could honestly rave about this one for a while for so many reasons! Jenna Hartley remains to be a standout author for me.

O my word was this book so perfectly every emotion and feel! New author to me, Make You Mine by Jenna Hartley was the perfect hockey romance that truly showed the beauty of growing through grief, acceptance, finding true and deep love again with your best friend and the perfect found family! And angst and slow burn will keep you devouring every page in one sitting!

Frasier. O this man. The gorgeous, broody hockey goalie who has been a part of Bryn’s life since college. Her husband’s best friend and the one person who stepped up when her husband passed away so unexpectedly to support her in every way possible. He gives without expecting, just a beautiful friendship to lean on each other through this awful time. Bryn is pure sunshine. This sweet girl is truly on her way to healing after the shocking death of her young husband. Becoming so close to Frasier, these two start feeling something growing. But it doesn't come easy. Working through the feelings of guilt for the way they feel, questioning are they betraying his memory and is it possible to find a true love for the second time. A little fake dating while attending her sister's wedding and a good ole game of truth or dare grows into their true feelings coming out. And it is so hot! These two have a deep passion that comes so naturally!

Add in a great found family who adore these two and are so supportive and caring and so funny and I loved the podcasts! AND I feel like there were some hints to possible future couples and I can’t wait!

This book is just so full of real and raw true emotions you would feel navigating this path and the author wrote it so beautifully! It’s tender, raw, vulnerable and will leave you feeling full of heart. Add this one now to your TBR!

“The best love stories have no end. Here’s to your happily ever after.”

Jenna Hartley delivers a story that lingers long after the final page in Make You Mine—the kind of romance that quietly settles into your chest and stays there. This was a deeply moving read, one where I genuinely felt like I left a small piece of my heart behind.

Bryn’s journey is shaped by loss. Two years after the sudden death of her husband—a beloved hockey player—she is still navigating a world that moved on far quicker than her heart was ready for. Through it all, one constant has been Frasier, her husband’s best friend and teammate. Their bond, forged through shared grief and years of friendship stretching back to college, feels authentic in a way that makes every interaction carry weight.

Ms Hartley handles the emotional foundation of this story with a gentle, knowing hand. The grief is not rushed or brushed aside; instead, it quietly threads through Bryn’s life, influencing her choices, her fears, and the walls she’s built around her heart. And yet, this isn’t a story that dwells in sadness. It’s about healing, about the slow and often complicated process of allowing yourself to feel again.

As Bryn’s sister’s wedding approaches and the pressure to “move on” begins to mount, a fake dating arrangement with Frasier feels like a safe solution. It’s familiar. Controlled. A way to meet expectations without risking her already fragile heart. But of course, emotions rarely follow the rules we set for them. What begins as something simple soon shifts, especially when a seemingly harmless game of truth or dare starts to peel back layers neither of them were fully prepared to face.

What makes this romance so compelling is the history between them. Every glance, every moment of hesitation, every unspoken feeling is rooted in years of knowing each other. Frasier is steady and patient, carrying his own emotional weight, and the way he shows up for Bryn—again and again—makes their love story feel both inevitable and hard-won.

This is a beautiful exploration of love after tragedy, of friendship evolving into something deeper, and of finding the courage to embrace happiness again without guilt. The emotional payoff is tender and deeply satisfying, with a happily ever after that feels entirely earned. And that epilogue? Soft, sweet, and exactly what the heart needs after such a journey.

If you’re looking for a romance that will move you, that will make you feel every step of the healing process, Make You Mine is one that truly delivers.

Make You Mine by Jenna Hartley
ARC Read - Releases 5/1/26
✨Summary✨
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5
HEA: Yes, no 3rd act breakup
POV: Dual
Tropes: Hockey Romance, NHL Star Goalie, Late Husband’s Best Friend, Friends to Lovers, Fake Relationship, Destination Wedding Date, He Falls First, Only One Bed

Bryn lost her husband unexpectedly 18 months ago. Her husband’s longtime best friend and teammate, Frasier, has been there for her as they grieve together. They’ve always been close, but over time that bond deepens… and Frasier falls for her, even though he knows he shouldn’t act on it.When Bryn’s sister is getting married in Anguilla and keeps pushing her to move on, Bryn lies and says she has a date to the wedding. When Frasier finds out, he agrees to be her fake date. No one is really surprised when they start pretending to date because of how close they already are…and then her sister upgrades her to a romantic suite with only one bed. Almost a week away in a romantic setting with one bed… there can only be one outcome. But can they work through the guilt of falling for each other when he was her late husband’s best friend?

I loved Frasier so much. He is so sweet with Bryn. I especially loved when he made the effort to get her a signed special edition of an upcoming release from her favorite author before it was even out so she could read it on their trip. If a guy did that for me, I’d probably do anything he wanted lol.

Bryn was strong, and it took a lot for her to move forward after her husband’s passing. Like anyone dealing with that kind of loss, her grief isn’t linear, and she does go back and forth on moving on. I will say there was one instance where she handled something she found out in a way I didn’t agree with (don’t want to give any spoilers). She does eventually work through it, but I didn’t love how she handled it in the moment.

The spice was great. Things really start to shift when they’re forced to share a bed, and then there’s a game of truth or dare that turns up the heat majorly. I also appreciated that there were no comparisons made between Frasier and her late husband when it came to intimacy.

I do want to mention there is an additional trope not listed that some readers might have issues with. I won’t spoil it, but if you have any hard no’s, you may want to check out the content warnings.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. We also got some interactions with a few of Jenna’s previous characters, which was nice. I’d definitely recommend it if you love emotional, friends-to-lovers romances with some angst and great chemistry.

Make Me Mine by Jenna Hartley is an emotional friends-to-lovers romance layered with grief, healing, and the kind of slow-burning tension that sneaks up on you when you least expect it.

The story follows Bryan and Fraiser, whose connection is built on years of shared history, loyalty, and heartbreak. After the devastating loss of her husband, Fraiser leans on Bryan, her late husband’s best friend and former Hollywood Hawks teammate. What starts as comfort and familiarity gradually evolves into something deeper, making their shift from friends to something more feel both natural and emotionally charged.

The fake date setup for a family wedding adds a fun layer of tension, but this isn’t a light or fluffy romance. The emotional weight of grief is present throughout the story, and it’s handled with care. Fraiser’s journey isn’t rushed, and her internal conflict feels real as she navigates guilt, healing, and the possibility of loving again. Bryan is steady, patient, and deeply devoted, the kind of hero who shows his feelings through actions as much as words.

The turning point, sparked by a truth or dare moment, shifts everything. What once felt like safe, platonic ground becomes something undeniable, and the chemistry between them intensifies in a way that feels both inevitable and earned.

This book really shines in its emotional depth. It explores how love can grow in the aftermath of loss without diminishing what came before. The romance is tender and heartfelt, with moments of vulnerability that make the connection between Bryan and Fraiser feel authentic.

If you enjoy stories about healing, second chances at love, and a best friend who becomes everything, this one delivers a deeply satisfying and emotional read.

Make You Mine quietly walked into my heart and then absolutely bodychecked me with feelings. 🏒🩵
Frasier and Bryn were EVERYTHING.
This book carried such a beautiful tenderness underneath all the fake dating chaos and swoony tension. From the very beginning, you could feel how much history these two shared. Grief wrapped around both of them in different ways, and Jenna Hartley handled that emotional weight with so much care and softness that my chest physically ached reading it.
And FRASIER. Somebody sedate me immediately because this man loved Bryn so deeply, so patiently, and so completely that I could barely survive it. The way he showed up for her over and over again without expecting anything in return? The way he stayed steady while she found her footing again? That kind of love feels rare, even in romance books.
But then Jenna Hartley said, “What if we add fake dating, wedding chaos, truth or dare, only one bed, AND a hockey player who falls first?” and suddenly I was spiraling in the best possible way. ✨
The chemistry between Bryn and Frasier simmered so perfectly because it was built on friendship first. Every lingering glance, every protective moment, every tiny shift from “best friend” to “something more” felt massive. And once that tension finally snapped? GAME OVER FOR ME.
There’s something so special about a man who already knows your broken pieces and chooses to love you anyway. Frasier never tried to erase Bryn’s past or rush her healing. He simply stood beside her, loved her fiercely, and waited for her heart to catch up with his.
And let me tell you right now: This man did not fall first. He fell like a hockey player crashing through the boards at full speed. 🏒💥
Beautifully emotional, romantic, comforting, and full of heart, this story reminded me why friends-to-lovers will always own me completely.
🖋️ Review written by me while emotionally compromised by hockey players, fake dating disasters, and men who love with their whole chest. All thoughts, swoons, and Frasier-induced emotional collapse are completely my own.

I need everyone to understand that Make You Mine by Jenna Hartley did not gently pull me in… it emotionally body-checked me and then had the audacity to make me thank it for the experience.
6 stars. No notes. I’m still recovering.
We’ve got: 🏒 Hockey man with actual emotional depth
💔 Grief that feels real, messy, and unpredictable
🛏️ Only one bed (and yes… it delivers)
🎭 Fake dating that convinces literally no one
🫠 He falls first and commits to it fully
Frasier??? Sir, be serious.
This man shows up, stays steady, pays attention, and somehow manages to be thoughtful without making a production out of it. The kind of man who notices everything and moves accordingly. It’s dangerous. I don’t trust it. I loved it.
And Bryn? She felt real.
Her grief isn’t neat or convenient—it’s complicated, frustrating, and very human. There were moments I questioned her choices, but it never felt out of place. It felt honest. And that made her growth hit so much harder.
Now the wedding setup?
Fake dating + destination wedding + one bed + forced proximity = absolute chaos (the good kind).
The tension builds in a way that feels natural, not rushed. You know exactly where it’s going… and it still gets you. Every time.
Also—Bacon and Biscuit deserve recognition. Emotional support icons. Zero flaws.
What really stood out was how this book handled moving on after loss. Nothing felt forced. Nothing felt disrespectful. It allowed space for both love stories to exist without diminishing either, and that’s not easy to pull off—but this did.
Final verdict: This is emotional, layered, and ridiculously easy to get lost in. It balances grief, healing, and romance in a way that actually lands.
If you like: • friends to lovers with history
• fake dating that’s barely pretending
• men who show up correctly
• chemistry that builds instead of explodes
Read it.

This is such a beautiful, emotional second chance love story of a widow who is great friends with her late husband’s best friend. Bryn is only twenty-seven and her husband Derek, a pro hockey player, died suddenly leaving her a widow in her mid-twenties. She is a pediatric brain surgery nurse and received a lot of unwanted publicity as Derek’s tragic widow. Bryn has received amazing emotional support from Derek’s best friend Frasier. He is always there for her even as he travels for his role of goalie on the Hollywood Hawks LA pro hockey team. Together they adopt two adorable rescue dogs and name them Bacon and Biscuit for emotional support.

It’s been 18 months since her husband died, and Bryn is receiving a lot of pressure from her sister Allie to date and put herself out there again. Bryn feels hurt by this and believes many people are pressuring her to put a timeline on her grief. This pressure comes to a boiling point when Bryn needs to bring a plus one to Allie’s destination wedding in Anguilla. Bryn gives Allie the impression that she and Frasier are dating, and she asks him to the wedding. To complicate matters, Frasier has developed real feelings for Bryn and is falling in love with her. However, he can’t tell her because he feels so guilty about it. When they arrive in Anguilla, Allie surprises them with an upgraded room with only one bed not knowing that they are fake dating.

It’s so compelling to see Bryn and Frasier navigate their feelings for one another and discover they have incredible physical chemistry. The author handles the mixture of emotions: joy, guilt, fear, sadness, and hope with incredible delicacy. The characters are relatable and have great depth. The message about finding love after loss and hope in the most tragic circumstances is very uplifting. I highly recommend this book and plan to read others by this author.

I've been so excited for this book ever since the first mention of it. Every teaser of it got me right in the feels. I always want more of this author's work in my life. I dived into this story as soon as I could. Oh how I loved this book!

Bryn and Frasier's journey hooked this heart of mine! Bryn is dealing with the loss of her husband. Frasier is a hockey player and was best friends and teammates with Bryn's late husband. Frasier showed up for Bryn and the two became great friends. Bryn's sister's wedding shakes things up for her and Frasier as they begin fake dating. Could they open their hearts to more between them?

Frasier and Bryn had each other through everything and their friendship was so wonderful. They were both taking on loss and grief and I truly felt for them. Bryn and Frasier were both such caring souls. It was such a treat to see them fake dating and navigating their true feelings. I just adored these two with all of my heart from beginning to end!

My heart broke for Bryn. She showed what it means to be human and was so relatable. I loved how Frasier was there for her! His love for Bryn shined all throughout. The realness that poured from these two and got me right in my chest. The way Frasier and Bryn understood each other on so many levels was so touching to see. Their chemistry was so lovely, blushworthy, and realistic. I went through all kinds of emotions with Bryn and Frasier!

Also, I must mention that Frasier and Bryn had the cutest dogs, Bacon and Biscuit!

With Make You Mine, Jenna Hartley has created such a moving page turner of a romance that'll stick with your heart! I'm still thinking about Bryn and Frasier. This is absolutely my new favorite book from this author! 🏒💗🦋

Definitely pick this book up!

Make You Mine by Jenna Hartley, provided via The Author Agency, is an emotional hockey romance that beautifully blends friends-to-lovers tension, grief, healing, fake dating, and emotional vulnerability into a deeply heartfelt reading experience.

The story follows Bryn, a widow still navigating life after the devastating loss of her husband, and Fraser, her late husband’s former teammate and longtime friend who has quietly remained by her side through her grief and healing journey.

One of the strongest aspects of the story is the emotional history between the characters. Because Fraser has already been such a significant emotional support system in Bryn’s life, the relationship progression feels emotionally grounded and believable from the beginning.

The fake relationship setup surrounding Bryn needing a date for her sister’s wedding creates additional emotional tension while also allowing both characters to slowly confront feelings that have existed beneath the surface for much longer than either of them fully acknowledges.

Fraser especially stands out as an emotionally steady and supportive MMC whose care for Bryn is consistently shown through patience, loyalty, and quiet acts of love rather than dramatic gestures.

The story also handles grief and emotional healing with a great deal of care, allowing Bryn’s journey toward moving forward emotionally to feel realistic and emotionally impactful throughout the progression of the romance.

Overall, Make You Mine is a deeply emotional and healing sports romance filled with grief, friendship, emotional comfort, slow-building love, and relationship dynamics that make the romance feel especially meaningful and rewarding.

One of the reasons I was excited to read this book was that it was a hockey romance. I’ve only read a few sports romances before which were focused on ice skating. I love going to hockey games and I was looking forward to seeing how the author wrote about the game. I also chose this book because it has one of my favorite tropes which is the faking dating/relationship trope. I love this trope because even though you usually end up knowing what’s going to happen, I enjoy seeing all of the small moments where the characters start to really know one another.

Something that I was happy to see in this book regarding the romance is that the characters knew each other for years before the events of this book. I thought that this made the story more realistic in why Bryn would choose Fraiser to be her (fake) date for her sister’s wedding. The last book that I read that had this trope used it more for convenience so it made me happy to see that the trope was used in a slightly different way for this story.
I really liked how the characters helped each other grow throughout this story and how they were able to lean on each other when struggling with their grief. I loved how the author didn't reduce the characters to their grief and still allowed them to show the different parts of themselves.

One of the really cute details in this story that I adored was how Bryn’s nickname for Fraiser was “Bear” due to the fact that he gives the best hugs! When I first saw that nickname I thought it was because he’s grumpy towards everyone but I was pleasantly surprised!

I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to anyone that likes sports romances!

Make You Mine is phenomenal!

The book takes place about a year and a half after Bryn's husband, pro hockey player Derek, tragically passed away. His best friend/teammate, Frasier, has been her rock as she pieced herself together again, and they leaned on one another in their grief. Now, Bryn's sister is getting married at a destination wedding, and Frasier has agreed to go with her. Because Bryn told her sister she and Frasier are dating, they go into the wedding week as a faux couple — but Bryn has no idea that Frasier is madly in love with her...

My heart broke for both these characters and the grief they were carrying after Derek's death. I really loved the complexities of how Bryn and Frasier were worried about how their romance would be perceived by the public, yet wanted to live their private lives in a way that made them happy. They complemented each other so well, and it was such an easy transition for them to go from friends to something more.

I really liked that they faced their feelings for one another while on vacation, but then explored what it meant to be in a relationship during his off-season behind closed doors; I really felt like we were shown the full evolution of their relationship. Yet despite how happy Frasier made her, Bryn still had some misgivings about putting her heart out there again. So when The Conflict happens, she needs to decide if she's willing to risk her heart or live a life of loneliness.

This story was beautiful, and it is one I am keeping on my re-read list! Highly recommend!

What an amazing book, consider me officially obsessed! Make You Mine is the kind of book that starts as a quiet, emotional ache and ends up setting your soul (and your Kindle) on fire. 🔥

Jenna Hartley has written something so much deeper than your average sports romance. We meet Bryn eighteen months into a grief she thought would be her permanent roommate, and her only real tether to the world has been Frasier, her late husband’s teammate and best friend.

Knowing Frasier was Derek's absolute best friend adds such a heavy layer of complexity to everything they do. They are constantly balancing the weight of public judgment and the guilt of their own connection with the simple need to just be happy. It is hard enough to move on, but doing it under the microscope of the hockey world makes every step feel like a risk.

Frasier is the ultimate "he falls first" hero. He has been her rock through the unthinkable; they complement each other so perfectly that the shift from friends to everything… felt inevitable. But once they are forced into one hotel room with only one bed… The restraint completely melts away. Watching a man who was so patient finally claim what he had wanted since forever, was everything!

This story handles honoring the past while reaching for a new future so gracefully. It is emotional, it is raw, and the tension is high voltage from the second they land for the wedding. You need to go and grab a copy of this book immediately; your heart (and your Kindle) will thank you.

A huge thank-you to Jenna Hartley and The Author Agency for my early copy! All opinions and bookish feelings are 100% my own. ❤️

I’m always a little nervous with late husband’s best friend/brother tropes because they can easily feel unbelievable. But Jenna Hartley absolutely mastered this complex dynamic. From the very beginning, it was clear this story would handle the relationship with more depth and care than expected.

Bryn’s grief journey was written in such a realistic and heartbreaking way. I could fully empathize with her as she navigated the loss of her husband 18 months later. Her fears, emotions, and thought process all felt natural especially while being somewhat in the limelight. What I appreciated most was that her grief didn’t define or hold her back, it was simply part of her healing, and that felt very true to life.

Frasier is such a sweetheart, he’s so easy to root for! He is deeply in love with Bryn. He’s sweet, kind, considerate, and unwavering in his support. What I loved most is that he was never threatened by the love Bryn still carried for her late husband, Derek. Instead, he honored that love and wanted Derek’s memory to remain part of their lives. That emotional maturity made his character even stronger.

“Thank you for not acting like I’m over the top. Thank you for trying to give me a peace of mind.” I mean... This is everything imo!

Their chemistry developed so naturally that their relationship never felt forced, it felt real. My only disconnect was Frasier’s side storyline with his brother, which felt a bit unnecessary and didn’t add much for me.

Overall, this was a strong, heartfelt romance with great writing, and I’d definitely recommend it.

Jenna Hartley’s Make You Mine is such a fun, feel-good romance that totally pulls you in from the start. The story has this easy, addictive flow, and the chemistry between Frasier and Bryn makes it hard to put down. It’s got that perfect mix of sweet, emotional, and just the right amount of tension to keep things interesting the whole way through.

Frasier is honestly such a standout character. He comes across as confident and grounded, but there’s a warmth to him that makes him really easy to love. As you get to know him, you see how thoughtful and steady he is, especially in the way he shows up for Bryn. He’s not just charming he’s the kind of guy who pays attention, who cares deeply, and who isn’t afraid to go after what he wants when it matters most.

Bryn is just as compelling in her own way. She feels real and relatable, with a strong sense of who she is, even if she’s still figuring things out. I loved how she doesn’t just fall headfirst without hesitation she has doubts, she questions things, and that makes her journey feel genuine. Watching her open up and let herself trust Frasier is one of the most satisfying parts of the book.

What really makes this story shine is the connection between them. Their relationship builds in a way that feels natural and earned, with plenty of sweet moments and emotional depth along the way. You can feel how much they grow together, and it makes the payoff at the end even more satisfying.

Overall, Make You Mine is a heartwarming, engaging romance with characters you can’t help but root for. If you’re in the mood for something sweet, a little emotional, and full of chemistry, this one is definitely worth the read.

4.25/5⭐️ - This book broke my heart then put it back together.

This was such a great read. An absolute rollercoaster of emotions. And I wanted to keep reading even afterwards. This story was so comforting and healing, mostly showing how a person can move on and find a way to continue their life after grief. It's difficult to write romance after grief, and Jenna did it beautifully. Her characters were amazing and I definitely liked the story itself, even though I'm not the biggest fan of sports romance.

Frasier was simply amazing. A true sweetheart and it's so easy to love. And he was perfect for Bryn. He is so in love with her that I could feel it through the screen of my kindle. He never felt threatened by Derek's memory and he honored him. In real life this thing rarely happens and it warmed my heart even more. Emotional maturity for the win. Loved it.

Their chemistry was not instantenous, because again, it wouldn't have worked with the actual trope of the book, and then it was developed tastefully, really showing the connection between the main characters.

The spice was great and balanced out perfectly to keep it just spicy enough to continue reading the book, but not exactly smutty so it's classified as smut erotica with no plot.

Overall, Make You Mine is a heartwarming romance story that I absolutely recommend reading if you like fake dating and emotional angst.

Make You Mine is a beautifully written romance book that grabbed me right from the beginning, we have surgical nurse Bryn who is a young window, her husband died suddenly while on a hockey away game, she was left devastated and really the only way she coped with the intrusive press and all of the noise around dealing with your husband dying is having the support of Frasier (Bear) who was also Derek’s best friend and team mate. Bryn and Frasier are best friends they went to college together, along with Derek and the three of them had been friends since college. Bryn tells her sister Ali, that she has a date for her destination wedding after she had made a comment that had really hurt her feelings then she was pushing for her to bring a date to the wedding, Ali says who, Frasier? Bryn says yes, but it’s only new so don’t tell anyone and then has to work out how she is going to tell Frasier! Once they get to the wedding destination there are so many things happening that are pushing them together their “fake” relationship is very quickly in danger of becoming very “real”. Will Bryn and Frasier be able to work through their fears regarding being in a relationship together to get their happy ever after? The storyline is filled with emotion, fear, frustration, friendship, heartbreak, heartwarming moments, insane chemistry, steamy scenes and love.

Make You Mine is powerful, emotional, and beautiful. With all the feels and so much more, this love story touches on so many relevant situations surrounding love, loss, grief, growth, the toxicity of social media, positive v. negative sports cultures, awareness, what it means to be part of a tribe and community, and so much more. While set in a world of sports fame, main characters Frasier and Bryn are down to earth and relatable humans who have lived through so much and supported each other during their darkest moments. I loved watching them delve into their own hearts and blossom with each other. The fake dating trope is not really for me—fake anything lacks authenticity, which is a huge turn off—but in this novel it really helps highlight some relevant issues. Grief is not linear, and each person processes differently. It’s important to give support and grace, not assume that what we want is what’s best for someone else. Frasier really sees Bryn and meets her where she is at, while also working on himself and taking care of himself too. Bryn is a bit slower in her awareness, but it’s no less powerful. These two are so much fun together and their chemistry is off the charts!!! And the ending? Oh my gosh the ending!!! Drama, action, suspense, and of course stubbornness and so much love. I literally could not put this one down. Sooo amazing!

I was not expecting to be swept away by Frasier and the way he swooped in and made Bryn feel as though she deserved the world, but I didi. Ms. Harley delivered a heartwarming story that deals with grief, family, friendship, and a love that was hidden for years.
After losing her husband two years ago and still grieving the loss, Bryn's sister is having a destination wedding, which she is a part of. Letting a little white lie slip, she finds herself trying to figure out if she should come clean or figure out another way out of it. Frasier, her closest friend and her late husband's best friend and teammate, feels she needs support for the wedding and offers to go with her. Now things get interesting. A suite becomes a small oceanfront hut and the friendship that was just that turns into so much more. What she doesn't know is that he has had feelings for her for a long time, and now he gets the chance to finally tell her. There is, however, one problem: she doesn't know if she should act upon the feelings she has because of the relationship between him and her late husband.
The emotions that went through me as I read this exquisitely written love story were very strong and all over the place. Ms. Hartley has once again given her readers a story that will live with you for a long time.

This isn't just a hockey romance; it's a stunning story about finding light after the darkest times.

Watching Bryn navigate the weight of losing her husband while slowly leaning on her late husbands best friend, Frasier, felt so incredibly real. The grief wasn't just a plot point; it was a living, breathing part of the story that made every small moment of healing feel like a massive win.

The slow burn between these two was absolute perfection. Since they already had years of history, the transition from best friends to "fake dating" at a wedding felt so natural yet completely charged with tension. Frasier is the ultimate book boyfriend—patient, broody, and so protective without being overbearing. When that "fake" line finally blurred during a game of truth or dare, the chemistry was so intense it practically jumped off the page.

What really stayed with me was how the story handled the guilt of second-chance love. It didn't feel rushed or cheap; it felt earned and deeply respectful to the past while embracing the future. Between the hockey world vibes and the supportive found family, I was completely hooked from start to finish.

If you love a hero who falls first and stays devoted, Frasier is about to be your new obsession.

Bryn and Frasier's story is truly a tale of finding life after loss. Bryn was dealt a really hard hand when she unexpectedly lost her best friend/husband one night a year and a half ago. She has been trying to crawl out of the depression and grief ever since, and her husbands best friend and teammate, is the person who has been there for her the most. The problem. Frasier has been in love with Bryn for years, and is now feeling it more than ever. But she is absolutely forbidden and off limits.

Hockey romance
Late husband’s best friend
Best friends to Lovers
Fake dating
He falls first

When Bryn needs a date to her sisters wedding, she blurts out that she is bringing Frasier, who she is supposedly now dating. And when she tells Frasier that she needs him to be her date, he is there at the drop of a hat for her.

This book brought me so many smiles, and also a few tears. I felt so hard for these characters and the decisions that they needed to internally make in order to be together. Bryn is such a strong character and Frasier is an absolute cinnamon roll!

I also loved that Jenna Hartley didn't make her late husband a jerk. A lot of the times in books like this, the deceased spouse ends up being a bad person, so it is more "ok" for the MCs to be together. But she didn't do that, so they were both able to honor him and I thought that was so great.

Buckle up guys this one is gonna make you hurt just a little bit before it brings us back around. It is a heavily emotional book that is so worth it to read. Bryn was married to Derek a hockey player and lost him suddenly. She is still trying to figure out how to do this life without him almost two years later. The only thing that has saved her was Frasier, her husband’s best friend and teammate. They had all been always been friends but the bond has grown since. Bryan’s sister is getting married at a destination wedding she tells her she needs to move forward with her life. She kind os panics and said she was dating someone and will bring them with her. Frasier finds out and volunteers. The sister decides to upgrades to a very romantics suite with one bed. Feeling are brought out into the open between them and they are just honest about it. I liked how it didn’t just show them going on vacation and bam they are a couple. They became comfortable with all their truths before most of the public knew about them.
This was such an unexpected story about loss, healing, fears and finding love again.

Make You Mine is an emotional story of loss and finding love again after that loss.

Tropes:
🏒 Hockey Player x Nurse
🏒 Best Friend/Teammate’s Widow
🏒 Best Friends to Lovers
🏒 He Falls First
🏒 Fake Dating
🏒 One Bed

Bryn is best friends with her late husband’s best friend/ teammate, Frasier. She’s getting tired of people being worried about her in her grief, so when her sister mentions setting her up for her destination wedding, she blurts that she’s bringing Frasier. He’s willing to go, and plans on trying to woo her to see him as more than a friend. When she admits that she told her family she was bringing him, he offers to lean into the fake dating ruse, hoping that will make it easier to make things real.

I thought this book was a beautiful story on loss, grief, and finding love again. Frasier is perfect for Bryn, and I loved how they were able to grieve together, and that Frasier didn’t have jealousy of Bryn’s feelings for Derek because they were best friends. It was fun for me to watch these two fall in love, and for them to navigate a relationship that others could judge. The twist we get with Frasier and defending Bryn, as well as what we get toward the end of the story was a great addition to the story.
