I love Bruce Hiscock's work. This is about the approach of winter and what it means for all the animals, even the people, in the north. While a child who is impatient for the arrival of the snow is the main focus, getting equal attention are mice, birds, a three-legged fox, a snowshoe hare and a few others. It shows how the change in seasons are important to all the creatures in that environment. Really a well told story where seemingly disconnected characters come together through their preparatory activities. I was really impressed.
This book would be great for a read-aloud for grades K-3. The book is about a young boy who is impatiently waiting for the snow to fall. The book talks about all of the animals nearby and how they have prepared for the snow, but it has not fallen yet. The book has many science elements to it, and would be great for discussing the seasons.
