Is anyone surprised that a danmei series receives a five-star rating from me? I highly doubt it.
Volume 6 of Legend of Exorcism kicks off with an intense fight scene and maintains a relentless pace of action throughout. The narrative leaves little room for breathing as the characters find themselves embroiled in an unwinnable war, fighting against odds they cannot possibly overcome despite their efforts.
Honestly, this volume feels quite bleak, as it seems that everything that could go wrong does, amplifying the sense of despair and tension.
Li Jinglong experiences a significant decline in confidence, and he is also gravely injured. Throughout this story, he has been the steady, reassuring presence for all the characters, acting as a rock of stability. Seeing him so low and vulnerable was truly heartbreaking. He deserves immense happiness, and I sincerely hope that in the next volume, he finds the strength to rebuild his self-belief.
Hongjun's emotional journey in this volume is profound, as he alternates between overflowing love for Li Jinglong and deep concern for his well-being, to the point of exhaustion. Over the course of this danmei, Hongjun has matured considerably; despite all the hardships he has endured and the ones still ahead, he has never lost his love and hope for the world.
The relationship between Li Jinglong and Hongjun remains as sweet, tender, and loving as ever. I especially appreciate how, after the significant miscommunication back in volume 3, they have become more open with each other and no longer let misunderstandings come between them. They truly exemplify the concept of soulmates.
Lu Xu remains my favorite character; I adore his sharp tongue and wit, but I also cherish the moments when he allows himself to be vulnerable, revealing his insecurities. Since volume 3, he has grown tremendously and has truly become the king of dreams, embodying both strength and tenderness.
Mergen demonstrated notable emotional development in this volume, a change I had eagerly anticipated. I was so proud of him when he finally set aside his stubbornness, opening up more emotionally.
Their relationship has now been officially confirmed after a long period, and their confession scene was beautifully portrayed. I love how their dynamic differs from that of the main couple, illustrating that love can take many different forms but remains love in the end.
A-Tai has become a father, and I must say, I absolutely love his wife, Turandokht; she is such a formidable and badass character.
Qiu Yongsi was absent from this volume until the very end, but as always, whenever he appears, he effortlessly steals the spotlight.
Every scene involving him deepens my attachment to his character.
In conclusion, I am eagerly looking forward to volume 7, especially since this volume concludes with a cliffhanger.

Cutest found family (I think I mention this in every LoE review, sorry). This is my most favorite fantasy universe in danmei which includes 1) Ming Wang/Post Training Notice: National First-Class Registered Exorcist 2) Wan Wu/Record of All Things 3) Dinghai Fusheng Records and 4) Qingping/The Legend of Metempsychosis (releasing in 2027). This volume hurts and there’s more pain on the way but I love it.
Quick and inadequate recap of what’s happening as this volume starts: Still haven’t found all the Acalantha artifacts; still need to defeat both An Lushan and Xie Yu to keep them from gathering more resentment, turning humans into Yao and/or Yao food, and stop Mara from coming back; HJ still has the demon seed in him; LJ still feeling defeated since the Acalantha did not recognize him and Zhao Zilong is still with An Lushan 😔

“Even if I’m burned to ashes when I die, the wind will bring them to him.”
ISTG, I love Hongjun and Lu Xu’s relationship so much. I’ve been so attached to these characters throughout the series, and this volume gave me even more reasons to love them. One of my favorite things was seeing Hongjun step up and become more protective while still loving Li Jinglong unconditionally, even with everything happening around them. I really love that about him. No matter how bad things get, his feelings don’t suddenly change, and watching him stand beside Li Jinglong through all of this really got to me. And speaking of Li Jinglong, I feel sooo bad for this man. I have been saying since the first volume that I genuinely think the author hates him because this poor guy cannot catch a break, and this volume somehow made me feel even worse for him. Every time I thought things might finally get better for him, something else happened. I was just sitting there like, PLEASE LET THIS MAN REST. I love the story and I enjoy the battles, but I have to admit that the fighting is starting to feel a little repetitive for me. There were so many moments where I felt like I was reading another battle, another injury, another disaster, and I started getting tired.
Also, A-Tai and Turandokht…I love you guys, but WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! Really?! A baby?! With everything going on?! I wanted to slap both of them because that was such a brave but also incredibly dumb decision. At the same time, I can’t deny that it gave the story another emotional layer. It made me realize even more how much this group has grown. They started out with their core members, but now their care extends to the people closest to each of them, and I really love seeing that. They’ve become more than just people fighting together. There’s this feeling that they genuinely care about each other and the people they’ve brought into their lives. Even when I wanted to yell at some of them, I still loved seeing those relationships develop. I was also really curious about the emperor because we don’t get to see much of his side directly, so a lot of what we learn comes from other people talking about him. And honestly, I kept questioning some of his decisions. During a war, is it really a good idea to unjustly execute the generals who are supposed to be protecting your empire? I don’t know! Punishments should happen after the war! I was seriously sitting there wondering what is going on with this man.
The Six Artifacts of Acalanatha also caught my attention because I’ve always felt like they were meant to belong to the members of the group in some way. This volume gave me more to think about with that, and now I’m even more curious about where that idea is going. I also really want to know more about the emperor because hearing about his actions through everyone else’s perspective is making me want to understand what he is actually thinking. There are so many things happening behind the scenes that I feel like we’re still missing pieces of the bigger picture. Even with all the chaos, I really enjoyed seeing how much these characters have changed and how their relationships with each other have grown. I’m still very attached to this group, and honestly, at this point, I’m here for them. I want to see where all of this goes, especially with Hongjun, Li Jinglong, and the rest of the group.

Li Jinglong spends most of this book horizontal—but NOT in a fun way.
It’s actually incredible how bad of a time he’s having. To be fair, the whole crew is really in their most miserable era. No one is doing well—aside from maybe the magic carp? Though, based upon the ending here, that’s probably going to change too.
Whoever is praying on their downfall, PLEASE STOP.
Anyway.
I hope the only direction we can go from here is UP??? Please, for my mental health~

Jk, I was in a slump. Also, life's been... Stressful! As was this volume, oh my god!!!!
The amount of times I wanted to throw this book from anger or sadness! Insane... Insane!
If I were to sum it up:
A lot happened. But not much happened.
FTYX really seemed to hound the wretched state of the world and the horrendous malace and evil that An Lushan was doing. This book literally gave me doomed feelings.
I really hope there's some character development because some people pissed me tf off. And they were beloved characters to me before.
Mergen, Lu Xu, and Zhao Zilong.
This volume was seriously was so unjustifiable to Li Jinglong. That man suffered wave after wave. His heart even wavered, yet remained the same.
"You've worked hard." Looking up at Mergen, he said in a low voice. "You see? That's just how he is. He always wants to protect everyone, even if he suffers."
An Lushan and Shi Siming's rebellion had taking countless lives and sent thousands feeting from their homes. Yet despite the death and destruction they'd witness on their way comma everyone in the Department of Exorcism had arrived home safe and sound — save for Li Jinglong, lying unconscious on the floor.
Stubborn as he was, he protected everyone with his unwavering conviction. In doing so, he'd sacrifice his body, his strength, and nearly his own life.
Man... I shed fucking tears at this moment. After everything he went through and his dispair, fears, and lack of confidence having come back, that didn't matter more than protecting those he cared about and the one he loved— Hongjun. As for why Mergen pissed me off is pertaining to this (explained in the spoilers)
-The battle at Luoyang.
-Jinglong suffers and his lack of confidence makes him waver three times worse than before the lamp. He begins to question himself.
-Then you have Hongjun and Mergen, taking a trip that takes way too fucking long.
-Hundreds of thousands of people suffer.
-Li Jonglong suffers some more.
-An Lushan survives (surprise surprise)
-Unknown dream eater lady.
-Lore
-Turandokht things that are pertinent? (I found it very random but something strange happened)
-the gang meets up.
-More doom and gloom.
-Li Jinglong suffers some more.
-People are selfish af.
-Dinner and more lore.
Thats the volume. A lot, but not.

Mergen: serious, dude? Page 348, for example.
The audacity to say, "he lacks trust in us." Sure, you also include that he sacrifices himself and won't let anyone share his burdens, but to insinuate that does it because he lacks trust in you all? No... Shut up!
I was literally screaming that Jinglong does it because if things fail, it's because of him. He doesn't want to drag the others down. He doesn't want to see them hurt. And if he can prevent it, so be it! Low and behold, I was right! (refer to the quote in the middle)
Lu Xu: sure, he protected and did his duties. But when he kept showing up in Hongjun's dreams/night time... god he was annoying! Barking orders and he kept complaining and questioning everything!
Also, idk... It kind of threw me off how he and Mergen randomly have an all nighter sex session at the beginning of the volume when there's danger literally next door. It felt weird to me.
Zhao Zilong: while your scene with the bird was priceless, you had nothing else. You keep making everything about you and you're literally selFISH! It's always "me me me me me" with you! Stfu.
Everyone be crying at the end because they FINALLY realize their fucking friend who nearly died for them, is a pulse away from death! Stfu. Selfish asses!
The only one that didn't make me mad was Ashina Adarvan. My son. Thank you for being the only one that I didn't want to rip their heads off.
Anyway, it was a good volume, but so fucking stressful! I still love that in the end, the characters aren't perfect.
When things aren't so chaotic and messy, it's great. Maybe when all is set and wrapped up beautifully, I'll appreciate the chaos.
Though I complained and am criticizing this volume, I still genuinely love this novel overall... because... Well! It's LEO and things always work out somehow like in other volumes! Nothing is truly meaningless and the end of the volume showed that. ( ˊo̴̶̷̤ ̫ o̴̶̷̤ˋ)
One volume of incredible frustration and anguish is not going to make me hate this story. 💖

I was literally screaming that Jinglong does it because if things fail, it's because of him. He doesn't want to drag the others down. He doesn't want to see them hurt. And if he can prevent it, so be it! Low and behold, I was right! (refer to the quote in the middle)
Lu Xu: sure, he protected and did his duties. But when he kept showing up in Hongjun's dreams/night time... god he was annoying! Barking orders and he kept complaining and questioning everything!
Also, idk... It kind of threw me off how he and Mergen randomly have an all nighter sex session at the beginning of the volume when there's danger literally next door. It felt weird to me.
Zhao Zilong: while your scene with the bird was priceless, you had nothing else. You keep making everything about you and you're literally selFISH! It's always "me me me me me" with you! Stfu.
Everyone be crying at the end because they FINALLY realize their fucking friend who nearly died for them, is a pulse away from death! Stfu. Selfish asses!
The only one that didn't make me mad was Ashina Adarvan. My son. Thank you for being the only one that I didn't want to rip their heads off.
Anyway, it was a good volume, but so fucking stressful! I still love that in the end, the characters aren't perfect.
When things aren't so chaotic and messy, it's great. Maybe when all is set and wrapped up beautifully, I'll appreciate the chaos.
Though I complained and am criticizing this volume, I still genuinely love this novel overall... because... Well! It's LEO and things always work out somehow like in other volumes! Nothing is truly meaningless and the end of the volume showed that. ( ˊo̴̶̷̤ ̫ o̴̶̷̤ˋ)
One volume of incredible frustration and anguish is not going to make me hate this story. 💖

Me ha gustado mucho el libro, estamos viendo otros lados de los personajes, donde no todo es felicidad y jasjas. Está todo siendo un absoluto desastre.
Li Jinglong está pasando por un muy mal momento, y me da pena que se piense que si no tiene poderes o alguna cosa especial, él como persona no sirve para nada. No se da cuenta de todas las buenas cualidades que tiene y de todo lo que ha conseguido en su vida a pesar de toda la mala suerte que dice que tiene. Sinceramente, muchos de los problemas que han tenido durante este libro se hubiesen resuelto si expresase más sus sentimientos a los demás, es lo que dijo el lobo, que al final siempre intenta hacer las cosas por si mismo,y eso tampoco es. Espero que en el siguiente libro veamos más cómo evoluciona todo esto y sea capaz de depender más en los demás y de abrir ese gran corazón lleno de inseguridades.
Hongjun en este libro me ha gustado mucho, creo que a lo tonto ha madurado un poco, y siempre va a ser ese personaje que anima de forma inconsciente a los demás, and thats really cute.
Como siempre, la amistad entre Lu Xu y Hongjun es mi favorita y los quiero mucho. Me hace demasiada gracia cómo trata Lu Xu a Li Jinglong jsjsjs
Me encanta mi familia y los adoro a todos, y solo espero que al final no muera ninguno y todos puedan lograr sus objetivos.
