Is anyone surprised that a danmei series receives a five-star rating from me? I highly doubt it.
Volume 6 of Legend of Exorcism kicks off with an intense fight scene and maintains a relentless pace of action throughout. The narrative leaves little room for breathing as the characters find themselves embroiled in an unwinnable war, fighting against odds they cannot possibly overcome despite their efforts.
Honestly, this volume feels quite bleak, as it seems that everything that could go wrong does, amplifying the sense of despair and tension.
Li Jinglong experiences a significant decline in confidence, and he is also gravely injured. Throughout this story, he has been the steady, reassuring presence for all the characters, acting as a rock of stability. Seeing him so low and vulnerable was truly heartbreaking. He deserves immense happiness, and I sincerely hope that in the next volume, he finds the strength to rebuild his self-belief.
Hongjun's emotional journey in this volume is profound, as he alternates between overflowing love for Li Jinglong and deep concern for his well-being, to the point of exhaustion. Over the course of this danmei, Hongjun has matured considerably; despite all the hardships he has endured and the ones still ahead, he has never lost his love and hope for the world.
The relationship between Li Jinglong and Hongjun remains as sweet, tender, and loving as ever. I especially appreciate how, after the significant miscommunication back in volume 3, they have become more open with each other and no longer let misunderstandings come between them. They truly exemplify the concept of soulmates.
Lu Xu remains my favorite character; I adore his sharp tongue and wit, but I also cherish the moments when he allows himself to be vulnerable, revealing his insecurities. Since volume 3, he has grown tremendously and has truly become the king of dreams, embodying both strength and tenderness.
Mergen demonstrated notable emotional development in this volume, a change I had eagerly anticipated. I was so proud of him when he finally set aside his stubbornness, opening up more emotionally.
Their relationship has now been officially confirmed after a long period, and their confession scene was beautifully portrayed. I love how their dynamic differs from that of the main couple, illustrating that love can take many different forms but remains love in the end.
A-Tai has become a father, and I must say, I absolutely love his wife, Turandokht; she is such a formidable and badass character.
Qiu Yongsi was absent from this volume until the very end, but as always, whenever he appears, he effortlessly steals the spotlight.
Every scene involving him deepens my attachment to his character.
In conclusion, I am eagerly looking forward to volume 7, especially since this volume concludes with a cliffhanger.

Cutest found family (I think I mention this in every LoE review, sorry). This is my most favorite fantasy universe in danmei which includes 1) Ming Wang/Post Training Notice: National First-Class Registered Exorcist 2) Wan Wu/Record of All Things 3) Dinghai Fusheng Records and 4) Qingping/The Legend of Metempsychosis (releasing in 2027). This volume hurts and there’s more pain on the way but I love it.
Quick and inadequate recap of what’s happening as this volume starts: Still haven’t found all the Acalantha artifacts; still need to defeat both An Lushan and Xie Yu to keep them from gathering more resentment, turning humans into Yao and/or Yao food, and stop Mara from coming back; HJ still has the demon seed in him; LJ still feeling defeated since the Acalantha did not recognize him and Zhao Zilong is still with An Lushan 😔

About to be attacked by An Lushan who has been amassing his rebel army of both humans and Yao who are coming from the North (Fanyang). Trying to find a way to fight but they aren’t allowed to use their spiritual techniques unless Yao are involved. An Lushan has only been using his human rebel army at this point led by Shi Siming

Li Jinglong spends most of this book horizontal—but NOT in a fun way.
It’s actually incredible how bad of a time he’s having. To be fair, the whole crew is really in their most miserable era. No one is doing well—aside from maybe the magic carp? Though, based upon the ending here, that’s probably going to change too.
Whoever is praying on their downfall, PLEASE STOP.
Anyway.
I hope the only direction we can go from here is UP??? Please, for my mental health~
