AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
I started listening to Westward the day after it released and it took almost no time to finish! This series is addictive and I am here for it! Atlas & Elizabeth have a unique “friends to more / second chance to get it right” storyline and because of its uniqueness, I was captivated and more than a little obsessed with the story! LOL
Their “second chance” is not your typical “haven’t seen each other in decades and now someone is back so let’s do this” way, but more of a long-distant friendship that never lost the tether to their hearts. All the years that have passed, they stayed in communication and their parting when they were young wasn’t one of heartbreak but more of a mutual understanding that their lives were moving in different directions and long-distance just wasn’t going to cut it. Present day, Atlas & Elizabeth find themselves in the same “orbit” and as more mature people who have lived ”a lot of life (again, details are in the book so read it lol)” they get the opportunity to “rethink” their current “status” and gah, it is such a heartwarming, realistic and organic journey that even weeks later it is putting a huge smile on my face as I write this!
There’s a couple of circumstances outside the realm of Atlas & Elizabeth’s romance journey that I felt added not just a bit of intrigue, but also a depth to Westward’s storyline as a whole. Yes, it was “dramatics”, but they made sense and did not overshadow the romance journey in the least. I was especially invested in one in particular and I’m not going to tell you which *wink* but you’re welcome to comment on my review after you’ve read this story with a guess!
I experienced this story via audiobook and the performance by 🎤Samantha Brentmoor and Gideon Frost🎤 was exactly what Elizabeth & Atlas deserved. Samantha is the keen ability to capture every nuance of the characters she narrates and brings them to life so perfectly every single time! The woman is flawless in the execution of every performance I have had the pleasure of experiencing by her; so much so that I seek her out whenever I am “shopping” for a new audiobook. Do with that tiny tidbit what you will! Gideon Frost did an outstanding performance of Atlas and I love how well he and Samantha jelled in the audiobook!

It’s time for Atlas and Elizabeth to get their second chance together.
Atlas left Ashford Creek to pursue his career in the NHL, but Elizabeth’s life and family are is Ashford Creek. So, she stayed behind and life went on.
Now, he’s back for the summer and things still feel very familiar, but maybe now is the right time for them?
I loved everything in this book. The small town of Ashford Creek, the people who will always know everyting about everyone, the second chance for a couplet hat couldn’t really let go of each other over the years, but had to move on (or try to), the big heart they both have for her student who needs help, the welcoming family Atlas has after (and before) the loss of her parents… I could go on and on. This book definitely made it to the top 5 of books by Miss Ryan.

I feel like maybe I should give up this series, despite really liking this author. All of them have just been ok for me, including this one. Not sure what it is about them that makes me feel that way. I love small town settings, with quirky people that look out for others. This should really hit my sweet spot.
The couple was meh for me. I get their issues from the past, more timing than anything and a bit of lack of communication. The tattoos they had for each other spoke volumes and they should have known. The issues Atlas had with the team was a bit crazy, more so when you find out who the bad guy was and why. I had a hard time buying into that, that no one would have spotted things.
It was nice to see how things ended for them. Done with big city life, now all set for small town life and being with family.

Great hockey story, these two have loved each other for years. Atlas is back for the summer, needing to recoup after being injured at end of the season by someone, no one knows who. His forever girl, Elizabeth,is still living next door, and home for summer off as a teacher. Can they rekindle, what they used to have? Their history and future together is what matters most, and they have both wanted.Beautiful story, but there are obstacles to get past, someone is still trying to hurt Atlas. Great story, healing, growth, future.

Westward is book 3 in the Ashford Creek series. It’s a second chance romance. Atlas and Elizabeth’s journey was fast paced and entertaining. Their tension was written well and I love the supporting characters. Good storyline and sweet happy ending.

Elizabeth is content with her life here in her small hometown. She could have gone with her first (only) love, Atlas, when he chased his hockey dreams, but she couldn't leave. She's built up a good life, a career, friends, and her family, but she knows deep inside that something's missing. Then her missing piece comes back home, and they fall back into their familiar, loving rhythm. Is it possible it's finally the right time for her and Atlas? Or are they doomed to never be on the same page at the same time?
Atlas isn't like a lot of his fellow hockey players. He only has one woman who's ever been in his heart, and he hasn't spent his time since he left her behind sleeping with anything that moves. Elizabeth is his first and only love, it just wasn't the right time for them before. But now that he's back in their town, he's going to make sure she realizes it's their time. He just has to survive whoever wants to kill him, and make a decision about his career.
It's so good being back in Ashford Creek again. This time it's Elizabeth and Atlas' second chance, and damn is it sweet! There's a connection that hasn't dimmed no matter the years apart, some suspense and mystery, and family and friends in a small town that has both its positives and negatives, especially for our couple. Elizabeth is amazing - she was so strong, withstood all the contempt she got for breaking up with the town golden boy, and was willing to give him another chance, when a lot of people understandably would never have given him that chance. Atlas, yay, for once a hero who wasn't a player on and off the ice, kept his heart for only one very special woman. And then the family and found family, especially Elizabeth's special student, the one she protected and took in when she realized he needed someone. I've been loving this small town series, and I think I just found my new favorite couple. Atlas and Elizabeth deserved their hard fought for second chance, every sweet, delicious word of it.

Having recently experience a difficult loss in my family, Westward both got me out of my head and provided story that I could relate with. Atlas Carter and Elizabeth Ellis experience the second chance romance I was looking forward to reading and as always, Ryan provided all the good feels necessary.
Synopsis:
The small town of Ashford Creek was where Elizabeth Ellis knew she would always return. After graduating college, she moved home to teach and provide assistance for her elderly parents. She was all they had in life and even though that meant the end of the long term relationship shared with her high school sweetheart, Elizabeth was willing to make that sacrifice. Growing up with her parents was difficult, they were never mean or unkind but they never truly related to current trends, that was where living in a small town was a benefit. Elizabeth could rely on her friend's parents to step in and act as a buffer between her and her parents when they couldn't relate. When Elizabeth learns one of her graduating students is struggling, she doesn't hesitate to step up and help him out, even if that means she finds herself in a whole world of danger.
Atlas Carter is somewhat of a small town hero. After graduating college he was drafted by Portlands' professional hockey and became an all star goalie for the NHL. This meant giving up on his one true love. Even though they parted ways, Carter always knew Lizzie was it for him. After a difficult season, he decides to return home to spend time with his family and to ponder a very difficult life altering decision. Atlas is getting older and his body is not able to endure what it once could. The bigger question is is Elizabeth willing to wait just a little longer to start the life they have always dreamed of?
What I Loved:
Second Chance Romance: Second chance romance is an easy story to dive into. The characters already now each other, they have a history, the storyline jumps in where they left off. It doesn't take long to get to the steamy aspects of the book.
Elizabeth's Heart: Elizabeth is everything a small town should be like. People there for people. By now we all know that Ashford Creek has a history and not all of it is very good. As a teacher Elizabeth wants to see her students be successful and if making small sacrifices will help she is willing to do what is needed.
Atlas' True Love: As a professional athlete Atlas had every opportunity to be a playboy. Don't get me wrong, he had his fair share of relationships but Elizabeth was always his one true love. She waited for him, he waited for her, proving they were always meant to be.
I devoured this book in no time. It was such an easy storyline to slip into and enjoy. For most of the book I truly felt what Atlas and Elizabeth were enduring, my heart broke in some places, and in others I cheered them on. Since they ended their relationship on good terms there was never an enemies to lovers aspect; it was always about their second chance.

We always know that when we get a second-chance romance the pain and beauty of that love is going to be heart-wrenching but nobody manages that pain any better than Carrie Ann Ryan. Glimpses of Atlas and Elizabeth in earlier stories told us that when we finally got to learn their story and see if they were going to get another chance we were going to be blown away and we were right. Their story was surprising in many ways because there was none of the animosity of real trauma that you generally get when a couple splits and then is forced to remain in each other’s orbit. Instead, Atlas and Lizzie found a way to bury their true feelings and present to the world that they were still friends and stayed supportive of one another. Now Atlas is rethinking his whole life and wondering if it might be time to go after what he really needs to finally be complete in life—the woman that has always held his heart, even if he has to give up the one thing that has always driven his life. Elizabeth gave up the love of her life because she understood that they were heading in different directions and she came home to live her quiet and simple life, but now he is back and challenging her to give them another chance and see if they can’t move forward together. Their feelings have never gone away and as they learn one another now the passion is only deeper and hotter, but they both know that despite the fact that their love is strong there are tons of obstacles for them to overcome. Atlas was a sensual, strong, sweet, and caring character that stood strong with his family and defended those that needed were in need of protection while still showing the softness that Elizabeth needs in her life. Elizabeth is a woman that has stood on her own, being a caretaker for most of her life so when her world shatters she needs a strong shoulder to lean on and Atlas is right there to support and help her to move through the pain and loneliness of her new existence, reminder her of her own inner strength and ability to stand up. She is sassy, compassionate, daring, and strong-willed, unwilling to let anyone take advantage of those she loves or considers under her care. I loved every moment of this story and seeing Atlas finally come to the understanding that he made a mistake so long ago and then take steps to correct that mistake and make sure that Elizabeth knows that she is the most important part of his life and will be forever, going forward. I am so looking forward to the next story in this series and hope that Teagan finally gets the chance to live her HEA and find a way to heal the pain that has kept her from moving forward in her life. This new spin-off series has quickly become one of my favorite of Ryan’s series and I am hoping it will last a long time to come.

Atlas Carter, Felicity's ( LEGACY ) brother who was hockey player for one of the best NHL teams ( PORTLAND GLIDERS ). His family did everything in their power to make sure he was able to follow his dream. As a goalie, he too had a very important role to play as the rest of his teammates. Their last game didn't go as they expected and he couldn't help but blame himself for that. Which was understandable but his teammates didn't blame him.
He wasn't a womanizer like the papers made him out to be. He has always had his heart set on one particular woman...A girl from his hometown, her name's Elizabeth Ellis. And she was the one that he wasn't able yo keep. After getting hurt post his last game, Atlas found himself back home in Ashford Creek to recover.
Elizabeth loved her life in Ashford Creek. She had a family that loved and supported her, the town people who always look out for each other and a job that she loved. Despite losing the man she'd loved to his dream, she made a life that she's proud of. Even though some of the people in town kept looking at her with such hatred because of her connection with Atlas Carter. Now that said man was back in town after he got injured and she didn't know what to do with that reality.
When life through her a curveball and her world shattered. She found herself leaning on the man she could no longer call her own....Atlas. The latter was there for her but she didn't want to depend on him cause she had a feeling that she would be left alone again and Elizabeth doesn't know if her heart could take that kind of hit. She tried denying what was going on between them but Atlas wouldn't let her. He lost her once before so he wasn't about to make the same mistake again. He knew he had to make a decision regarding his career but the woman who held his heart was going through a hard time and he needed to be there for her.
I felt Elizabeth's pain having gone through something similar. Loved how Atlas, the Carters, the Ashfords and townspeople were there for her. As danger found both Elizabeth and Atlas, they realized that no matter how hard they try to run away from what was happening. He fought for their relationship this time around.

Truthfully, she was a small town girl who didn’t like to be the centre of attention, and Atlas’s life got plenty of attention. His family still lives in Ashford Creek and Atlas and Lizzie have managed to stay in touch and be friends in the decade since they split, but both still yearn for something more. Unfortunately, the townspeople never seem to let Lizzie forget that she and Atlas had once been more than friends.
Hearing that Atlas had been injured in attack sends shockwaves through Ashford Creek and all eyes are on Lizzie waiting to see what she knows and how she reacts. Atlas comes back to town to reassure his family and the woman he can’t stop thinking about or loving. With retirement from the NHL on the hirizon, he is thinking about his future and he wants that future to include Lizzie as his partner, not just his friend. Lizzie is hesitant to give Atlas another chance. He comes to her rescue during a couple of incidents involving her former student and then steps up to support her when her life falls apart. He sneaks under the guards she erected around her heart, but Lizzie wonders what will happen when he leaves to get back to his life across the country. Will his career come between them again or can they find a way to make things work between them?
These two characters drew my attention and touched my heart. Their connection, their insight into each other and their yearning for something more between them are evident throughout this book. They are both good people who love their families, their hometown and each other. Each tries to be of service to their community, Lizzie through teaching and mentoring her students, and Atlas through financial donations. Atlas left town to pursue his dreams in the NHL. Home to recover from an injury, he is faced with the girl he left behind when he chose hockey and she chose home. Elizabeth dreamed of settling down and building a life in her hometown, close to family and everything she held dear. When she and Atlas broke up, she felt judgement from the town, but was determined to show them that there were no hard feelings and the breakup was for the best. But she also avoids any mention or encounter with Atlas, as best as she can, until he is home for the summer. The town is only so big, so she can’t avoid him forever.
These two were so perfect for each other, in the best second-chance kind of ways. I loved how the strength of their relationship was such that they didn't feel the need to be attached at the hip or make immediate life changes in order to confirm and make plans for the future. Both characters are as strong separately as they are together. It was also interesting that part of the conflict resolution happened while the characters were not in the same city.
I also loved the addition of Will's character and the way Atlas and Elizabeth worked to create a safe space for him. This aspect of the story was unexpected to me, but really showed the value Elizabeth places in the small town support that she remembers and loves.

The teaser for the next book has me curious about the timing and history between Teagan and the man she texts at the very end. I enjoyed this story -- easy, light and quick to read. It pulled me in and felt like a perfect summer read.

MCs who we are told are each other’s one and only (that’s a joke!), break up when they are in college because MMC is an NHL player and he needed to focus & pursue the career he loved more than the woman apparently, and have “awesome new experiences” - aka screwing many OW for a DECADE while she sits at home waiting for him to choose and return to her. How epically romantic.
At least author had the decency to not totally portray FMC as a doormat loser. She got to screw some men of her own in the years apart, but OF COURSE they were never him. Lol.
They apparently stayed close through the years as platonic friends but never stopped loving one another. Which IMO, how do you love someone when you are busy screwing others? Is that a real thing?
Anyway, we have literally no plot or romance here. He basically gets attacked by someone and comes home to recuperate and see his family. He bought a house next to FMC who is a teacher and all they do is hang out and worry about an 18 year old homeless. The kid was awesome BTW and I loved his humor & all-around goodness.
Then about 85% or so in, they have sex and suddenly they are back together and the end without talking about what broke them up in the past or resolving anything. We end basically with no HEA - just them moving in together after FMC who was adamant that she loved her town & people would never move, suddenly she moved in with him and that is the end. No engagement. No wedding. no look into the future and no idea how they gone from having supposedly this big love when they were younger, to separating for a decade and just staying friends while screwing others, to suddenly together with no idea if they will ever end up together.
And what about the kid? It's mentioned that he is part of their family now but no adoption and no word if he moved to Colorado with them or what.
And by the way, for a romance, shouldn't there be some jealousy by each FMC over the people they screwed? Some hurt or something to see the person you supposedly love with all your soul f******g someone else? I laughed at one attempt where MMC is written to have a jealous moment over some man but forgets it a second later.
But my favorite line in the entire thing is him trying to convince himself(?) or others that he is not the major manho that the press portrays him as. This line made me laugh.
And the idea that Thatcher and Kellan didn’t believe I was an asshole who slept around as much as the media thought, warmed my heart slightly.
Uh huh. Riggghhht.

If anyone knows one thing about my reading vibe, there are specific authors I will NEVER deny a read from but there os ONLY one who I have been resding the longest. Ladies and gents, if you don’t know of Carrie Anne Ryan then let me tell you; her entire world building is top tier and I have had the honor in reading her HEA stories for almost eight years. Elizabeth Ellis is a teacher in the small town of Ashford Creek and she loves her small town. She’s happy with her life there. And then the man who was her everything comes back into town after a freak attack. Atlas Carter is a goalie in the NHL and hockey has been his whole life. His family sacrificed a lot so he could make it. They parted ways for reasons that they only know but now that he’s back in town for the summer, they’re drawn back to each other. But Elizabeth wants to stay in Ashford Creek and Atlas needs to decide if he has another year in him to play hockey. But there is someone who doesn’t want Atlas to return and they are making a threat on his life.
I loved the first two books in the series and I’m happy to be back in Ashford Creek. Elizabeth is someone I loved from the beginning and that only grew more as I listened to the story. She’s kind, caring and wants to help everyone she can. She wants to help all of her students thrive and she has a special connection with a student who lost his parents when he was younger. She was the big sister he needed. Atlas is passionate about hockey and is super close to his family. He and Elizabeth made the difficult decision when they were younger to break up so they could both be happy with what they want career wise. But when he’s back in town, they are drawn back together. It was like no time had passed and I could still feel the connection they had. I loved the added suspense of who was going after Atlas and was so surprised when it was revealed and why they were doing it. I loved the ending and the teaser we have for the next book has me counting down the days until it’s released.
Samantha Brentmoor and Gideon Frost narrated this audiobook and I loved listening to them bring it to life. Samantha was the perfect choice for Elizabeth, her narration was genuine and positive just like her. Gideon was great as Atlas, I loved how he brought the protective and attentive goalie to life.

The story pulled me in from the first page. Atlas's and Elizabeth's chemistry felt genuine. I appreciated that they approached their relationship with the maturity that comes from life experience. They didn't rely on unnecessary drama. Their journey was emotional, believable, and easy to root for.
The supporting cast added depth to the story, but Will was the standout for me. After aging out of the foster care system, he is welcomed into the Ashford family, who give him the love, stability, and sense of belonging he has always needed. His interactions with Atlas and Elizabeth were some of my favorite moments in the book and added another layer of heart to the story.
Ryan also weaves in a light suspense element through the circumstances surrounding Atlas's return home and Will's storyline. It never overshadows the romance, but it adds enough intrigue to keep the pages turning.

The story pulled me in from the first page. Atlas's and Elizabeth's chemistry felt genuine. I appreciated that they approached their relationship with the maturity that comes from life experience. They didn't rely on unnecessary drama. Their journey was emotional, believable, and easy to root for.
The supporting cast added depth to the story, but Will was the standout for me. After aging out of the foster care system, he is welcomed into the Ashford family, who give him the love, stability, and sense of belonging he has always needed. His interactions with Atlas and Elizabeth were some of my favorite moments in the book and added another layer of heart to the story.
Ryan also weaves in a light suspense element through the circumstances surrounding Atlas's return home and Will's storyline. It never overshadows the romance, but it adds enough intrigue to keep the pages turning.
Overall, Westward is a sweet, emotional romance about first love, second chances, and finding your way back home. With lovable characters, strong family dynamics, and a satisfying romance, this was an enjoyable addition to the Ashford Creek series.

I have to admit that I want Atlas's parents to adopt me too please. They are there for their kids, the Ashfords and Lizzie. And let us not forget the recently graduated young man that Atlas and Lizzie have taken under their wings. The love is strong and I do not see anything breaking it.
I have been loving listening to Samantha Brentmoor lately. I love her voice and her portrayal of the characters in the book. She is my favorite female narrator for this reason. It has been forever since I have listened to Gideon Frost and he did not disappoint. I loved him as Atlas. The voice, the character portrayal. Everything just fit.

Second-chance romances own my heart and Ms. Ryan has delivered the perfect one. Being back in Ashford Creek had me smiling and loving the gang who always seems to be a part of everything. Between the pages of Westward, Ms. Ryan gives us a story where love was once, hearts were shattered and now love has a chance to bloom. Her storytelling is outstanding, her storylines are addictive and her characters are relatable, easy to love and ones you want in your circle. Just to make your heart beat a little bit faster, Ms. Ryan adds in a few heartbreaking and suspense-filled scenes.
Atlas, the goalie that is loved by all, is back home in Ashford and recovering from an attack at the end of last season. Deep down, he is hoping to reconnect with the woman who has owned his heart since high school, Elizabeth, Lizzie. Lizzie is the small-town teacher everyone loves. Atlas Carter seems to have it all. He is a star goalie in the NHL, but he doesn't have the girl he left behind in their small town. When Carter is attacked and hurt after his last playoff game, he is forced back to his small town to recover and to get his second chance at forever with his Lizzie. Elizabeth Ellis loves her job as a teacher, loves Ashford Creek, and loves her parents. She doesn't regret her choices but hates the pitying looks she receives from the citizens of Ashford Creek whenever Atlas visits or his name is brought up. Will Atlas and Elizabeth rekindle their romance while Atlas recovers over the summer living next door to each other? Can Atlas and Elizabeth work through their issues that pulled them apart to begin with? Will Atlas be there for Elizabeth when she suffers her greatest loss? Will Atlas and Elizabeth work together to help one of her former students? Will Atlas find out who attacked him? I loved Westward by Carrie Ann Ryan. Atlas and Elizabeth are a great couple with amazing chemistry. I love how Atlas and Elizabeth remained friends throughout the years and were always there for each other despite what other people thought. I loved this story and honestly what a plot twist it had. This is definitely a quick and easy read. I enjoyed their chemistry, there was such a softness to it. Atlas might be my favorite MMC in this series so far lol but it might be too early to say. Either way she could have given me 200 more pages of them and I don’t think it would have been enough. I can’t wait to see more of them hopefully make appearances in the next books.

This story picked up right where the last book left off in a breath-stealing suspenseful moment that sent Atlas home to heal, right next door to the woman he left behind. Atlas and his Lizzie had such a beautiful and passionate connection beneath the pain from the past, blossoming in the midst of the drama, small town charm, and danger that seems to find people in Ashford Creek. The found family vibe was top notch with so much heart and banter flowing from all these amazing characters with their own personalities and secrets. I’m so invested in this series, I can’t wait for Patience to come out next!

Elizabeth Ellis & Atlas Carter were involved when in College she moved home to teach & care for her elderly parents making it so their relationship was put on hold.

Atlas has loved Elizabeth since he was a teenager however when their lives were taking them in different directions they ended their relationship but remained friends. With the end of the hockey season Atlas is returning to his hometown to heal which also means seeing Elizabeth again and now that they are at different points in their life will it finally be their time?
Elizabeth knows that she and Atlas made the only decision they could at the time as she wasn’t about to hold him back from playing hockey and her life was in Ashton Creek with her family. When Atlas returns for the summer the chemistry and connection between them was stronger than ever however not only are they dealing with how to move forward but the threats that are circulating around them.
This is a heartwarming second chance for Atlas and Elizabeth who were torn apart and it wasn’t because they didn’t love each other. Time nor distance has diminished the feelings between them and Atlas isn’t about to lose Elizabeth for a second time. The audio performance by Gideon Frost and Samantha Brentmoor was flawless as they brought out the personalities of these characters and the depth of their love.

Lizzie stayed in their hometown to care for her aging parents while working as a teacher. Atlas left to pursue his dream of playing in the NHL. Even after their breakup, they remained friends, texting each other here and there over the years.
When Atlas is injured after an attack following a game, he returns home for the summer, longer than he normally would. The pull between them is still undeniable and neither of them has truly let go. Atlas knows he wants a future with Lizzie, but she doesn't make winning her back easy. Now he has to decide whether to play another season of hockey or retire, especially when Lizzie has no intention of leaving Ashford Creek.
It felt like no time had passed between these two. Atlas and Lizzie shared such a strong connection that even years apart couldn't break it.
