Summary
Harrison Thornwick, never imagined that he would lose his brother and his family to a disease and the family manor practically burned down to the ground. Harrison hasn't had to live a life of responsibility to now. So he sets aside his gambling, drinking and carousing to do what needs to be done. But while in the process of rebuilding, the prince gives him an ultimatuum marry the woman he has in mind or be tossed in prison for a duel he had no choice but to participate in. Miss Angelina Rule, is a true lady, but also has other interests. She is shocked to learn that her father, has huge gambling debts and in order to keep him from debtor's prison and having herself and her grandmother tossed in the street, she must marry the Earl of Thornwick even though her heart is set on another. Harrison knows that he will have to be persistent, patient and understanding when winning over the lovely Angelina. He knows she is set on another man, but he is determined to prove to her of his genuine feelings for her.
The Hero
Harrison Thornwick has lost his whole family though various circumstances. He never thought he would become the earl when he was the fourth son. Harrison admits that he spends too much time with the pleasures that the city has to offer and not enough spending time with his family. He lost the woman he loved when she loved another man...his brother. And now that they have died, three months later he is still struggling with his grief and rebuilding the family manor. And just to add more weight upon his shoulders, he has no choice but to marry and he doesn't even get to choose his own bride. But when Harrison meets Angelina he is spellbound by her. She is fascinating, beautiful and everything he could ever want in a bride. I truly adored Harrison, he comes off as a bad boy at times but he is so much more than that. He has some hidden depths and it was quite revealing to see them come out. He is a man that likes his own way in things, he isn't afraid of some competition but is still honorable.
Though I'm seldom a gentleman, I do on few occasions decide to be one. I wanted to let you know I can be a gentleman. I can, at times, follow the rules and do the right thing, but it is never as easy, enticing or satisfying as doing what's forbidden

The Heroine
Angelina is a heroine I just gravitated to instantly....honestly I think I could have been friends with her in another life. She lost her mom when she was younger and has been taught by her grandmother the social graces to get her ready for her first season. Her father she loves, and will do anything to help him. The past three years she has been in love with a military officer. Angelina loves to paint and help out stray dogs. I love her kind heart and the ways she goes about to help her father and she does get a bit creative in helping him with his debts so that she can marry the man she wants. I did enjoy her quite a bit, and even though she was a bit naive on occasion I did feel that she was realistic.
Plot and Story Line
The Earl Claims a Bride is a book I have had on my reader for over a year now and I still can't believe I waited so long to read this one. But whew am I glad that I picked this one up especially since its my first book from this author. First off I want to point out that this book can be read as a stand alone. The series is based on three friends from Eton and their own stories. So its loosely connected but not too much though although, I am intrigued by the two friends and I can't wait to get my hands on the other two books.

Now this book sets off with seeing our hero get the horrible news from his family following a duel he didn't even want to participate in. What I noticed first off from him, though, was how honorable he is. He doesn't let anger or frustration get the better of him. The author here really pulled me in quite quickly with this book. Then we get to our heroine and seeing her save another stray that is a puppy and been injured. We see her kind nature from the beginning and I loved her personality. We do get a little mix of the love triangle trope. Now first off we know who is the obvious man she will eventually pick but we have an added complication---an injured officer of the military who pursues her at the same time. Now his situation really melted my heart, because he lost his eye and has some scarring and she is the only one that sees him beneath the injury. He is full of anger though because of what has happened to him. But Angelina handles him so well. We see that she has great chemistry with Harrison and doesn't have the same feelings that she used to have and realizes the difference between love and an infatuation. Amelia Grey really handled this aspect of the story very well. The only issue I had with the story was the actual romance between Harrison and Angelina. I didn't feel as involved as I wanted to, it felt a bit off balanced in moments. However, I did enjoy this story quite a bit: sweet and fun and definitely want to pick up the other books.
The Cover
What a cover....I just love everything about it. I love the pose here, its different from the norm you usually see in HR. I like the sitting down set, and I love the tone of colors. And her dress is so gorgeous....the cover is sexy yet tender too.
Overall View
The Earl Claims A Bride is a sweet love story that engages the reader and pulls them into a ride of charm and sensuality.

This one was a weird one. It set up the premise of a love triangle but it was between three people who loved each other and weren't villains so you're supposed to have angst because you think both of the heroes are perfect for her. However, there wasn't enough emotions, scenes, and flare to make me feel strong emotions towards any of the characters. What's interesting is that the book flowed nicely and had good pacing. The female heroine also paints to pay off her father's debt but her father gets angry at her for selling her prized possessions to save him which I found awkward because he was so angry. Also the father gambles so much and I'm like UGH stop. Anyways, the book was ok.

A wonderful feast for the mind and heart. Amelia Grey has created a story that proves be delightful, bewitching and well written. Harrison is intent on living life by his own rules. No restrictions for him. When events change the life he has built for himself he has to adapt. Angelina is adamant that she will make her own way. She wants to live life on her own terms. So when that is called into question she is willing to fight tool and nail to make her dreams come true. The battle of wills is on. Who will win this power struggle in the came of love. I enjoyed Angelina. Her wild spirit and soft heart proved an interesting contrast to Harrison devil may care attitude and enigmatic personality. I received an ARC of The Earl Claims a Bride by Amelia Grey in exchange for an honest review. A spellbinding, breathtaking and entertaining journey to love.

Another dull book which disappointed me; I had to skim the last few bits to prevent myself from falling asleep. I haven’t read a lot from this author but I did enjoy book 1 in this series, The Duke in My Bed (see review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...), so I was disappointed in this.

The book was dull and the leads were not convincing together. Unfortunately, the heroine comes across as petulant more than principles. The hero knew he loved the heroine about 55% into the book but there was an unnecessary love triangle which just elongated the plot. All the interactions fell into the same rhythm - they would meet, the hero would do something “roguish” (which should have been charming but I found boring) which would “fluster” the heroine and then the next chapter would be days later where the heroine would be waiting to see the hero. Because absence makes the heart grow fonder - or some such thing! Since I knew how the chapters would go I was not invested in the interactions.

The hero was generally better which him realizing he has no substance given that he has spent most of his life galavanting. There wasn’t much angst in the realization but there was some growth. Unfortunately, that was about it so there wasn’t much movement in his character.

I found the book generally fragmented - for example, there is a debt plot with the heroine’s father which hardly matters. It did not prevent her from spending time with the love-rival so there wasn’t much consequence to the plot detail.

In the end, I skimmed the last few chapters as I just didn’t care … 1 star.

It is so great when you read a book that has a totally awesome male lead. I adored Harrison! He was so smooth and sexy. He was a rogue, but all that coiled male energy was focused on the very lovely and lucky Angelina. Amelia Gray has created a great love triangle that examines the emotions of falling in love.
Angelina was smitten with a Captain in the British Army as a teenager. It’s that typical infatuation you have as an inexperienced young woman. A few glances and bam – its love! Angelina has harboured love for the Captain for three years. She believes she is in love with him, but reality is very different from the fantasy she has built in her mind.
Harrison comes into her life through the machinations of the Prince of Wales. He will pay off her father’s substantial debt in exchange for her marrying Harrison. Harrison is the youngest son of four, he was never supposed to inherit the title, but numerous tragedies have made it possible.
Harrison is taken with Amelia from the moment he sees her. He doesn’t really want to marry and his attentions are on restoring his estate. However, Angelina surprises him and he finds that besides the strong attraction he feels, he likes her. And so begins his adventure of chasing Angelina. He fits her numerous descriptions of rogue, rule-breaker and cad, but it’s all in an effort to combat the feelings she is developing for him.
The Captain returns and hence, the love triangle begins. Angelina spends time with the Captain who has been greviously injured in India. She wants to heal him and care for him, like she does with her numerous strays she takes in. Both men want Angelina, and she must make a choice.
What I enjoyed about this book was the introspective tone to the book. It was a deep view into what is attraction, love and how to make the right choice for the rest of your life. Do you choose someone in order to heal them? Or do you pick the person that makes your heart beat a little faster? Is lust the same thing as love? Will lust fade and if it does, what are you left with? These are some of the inner struggles that the characters face.
What makes this book successful is the well-developed dialogue and plot. The author is judicious in the scenes she creates and propels the plot along well. The author Sarah MacLean says that a love scene should create conflict (or something like that) and Amelia Gray does this well. It’s not like the book is full of crisis’s, but rather each scene is conceived to push the characters into action or reflection.
It’s hard to right about the chemistry between characters – it must be even harder to create it! The chemistry between Harrison and Angelina is one of the things I liked the most about this book. They tease each other and send smouldering looks. I adored how they interacted and that Harrison was so captivated by Angelina.
This was a great story and I found myself lost in the words on the page and the tangle of emotions it provoked.

Harrison Thornwick has lived a wild and dissolute life. Now he wants to change his ways. The unexpected death of his brother and his entire family has made him an Earl. Filled with guilt he works hard to become a better man. The Prince has decided to help Harrison by finding him a bride. If he refuses he will be punished. What's he to do! Miss Angelina Rule is his intended. She doesn't want him anymore than he wants her. The battle has begun! The characters are well written and interesting. Angelina will not marry a man that she doesn't love. She's strong willed and determined. She cares for her family and will do all she can to protect them. Even if it means flaunting the rules of society. Harrison finds that he is attracted to her which is very unexpected. He's always been a rake with the opposite sex. Now he must exercise patience and let the lady realizes that he's the man she truly loves. This is a sensual love story that is filled with witty banter and excellent writing. The Earl Claims a Bride appealed to my heart. The secondary characters added depth to the story as did the setting. I couldn't put this book down. This story had me enthralled. Amelia Grey did not disappoint. I'm enjoying The Heirs' Club of Scoundrels.

I gave this 3.5 stars because I felt the secondary characters were a bit thin and the story lacked dramatic tension. However, I really liked the main characters and I loved how ardent Harrison was at wooing Angelina. I think Regency romance fans will enjoy this book.

This one, well honestly it was tricky. See the Earl, Harrison gets told by the king he has to marry. Ok nothing strange there, it's the olden times after all. And he is lucky and the woman in question is pretty and he falls for her. So nothing strange there.

BUT, see Angelina is in love with someone else. Ok, no problem, I am sure Harrison can win her over. But, see the man in question loves her back. Wait, that is weird right. I thought this was a romance. Harrison is the odd man out.

So while reading I kept thinking about that. Harrison could not back away, he had to marry her. And she starts to have feelings for Harrison. Oh this triangle is getting tricky. There is one thing that saved it for me. She fell for the man when she was 16 and said she would wait for him until he gets back (India, he was a soldier) and he was like 20 years older. That was truly what saved it for me. Sheesh man, she is way too young. He was all I will wait until you are older, no man. You already lost me, and her love was obviously a crush.

Ok so that was half my review talking about that. But it was strange you know. I do not know if I ever have come across a situation like this...

About the characters. Angelina likes to rescue things and her dad gambles too much (therefore she must marry). Harrison used to be a scoundrel but is now an Earl and he steps up. And the last person in this triangle, Maxwell, oh I never liked him. He was all my scars! He had ptsd too (not that that is bad), and he really should find someone older.

A romance you wish for but it scared will not happen.

Narrator: Barrie Kreinik
I liked her voices. But I must say just as men do women voices "strange" so do women do men. Obviously. But it still works.
The chapters just flew away.

4 Love-Triangle Stars

The Earl Claims a Bride is book #2 of the Heirs Club of Scoundrels. Amelia Grey's writing style is fast-paced, flows fluidly, with engaging characters, and an added bit of humor. The author has just the right balance of all things to keep me fully engaged to read her books cover-to-cover in one sitting. The romance is always angsty, but light enough not to frustrate me. The characters, while flawed, are not too stupid to live damsels in distress.

Harrison's narration was my favorite of the novel. He never expected to have any familial responsibility, and it's tossed into his lap unexpectedly. While cliche, both Harrison becoming an earl and Angelina's family needing her to marry to erase their debt, the combination didn't feel overplayed, or as a rerun from past books written with this trope.

I enjoyed Angelina. She was torn between wanting to help her father, being stuck in a situation she had no control over, and her girlish infatuation with a man she thought she would marry someday. I understood how powerless she felt while reading, and it kept me entirely engaged in the storyline. The future as she envisioned it is torn from her, and she has to roll with the flow.

The romance for most of the book is push-pull, with neither Harrison or Angelina wishing to marry the other. Its reluctance is what made it so decadent for me to devour. The angst turns up several notches when a real love triangle is revealed (I won't give out spoilers). But instead of reading, knowing who is going to end up with whom so you just write off the third wheel, as a reader I understood how torn Angelina felt in the moment.

I recommend this series (don't forget, this is book #2, and you best go back and read book #1 first) to fan of Historical Romance written in a more modern voice, as it is missing the purple prose some are looking for in this genre. Thankfully, I am always pleased to find an easy to read, quickly flowing his-ro not being bogged down with unnecessary details, no matter how beautifully or perfectly written they may be.

I look forward to reading and reviewing book #3 in this series, and I can't wait to have some free time to do so.

The Earl Claims a Bride is book two in Amelia Grey's Heirs Club of Scoundrels Trilogy. It's simple, sweet and a traditional regency. A Story about duty that turns into desire and the world that revolves around that duty.

Miss Angelina Rule has plans for her life and it isn't marrying a come late to the party Earl. She fell in love with a soldier years ago and has promised herself to him. But when the Prince himself declares that she should marry Harrison Thornwick, the most recent Earl of Thornwick, it's kind of hard to resist. But she does... until she discovers that Harrison is a man worth getting to know and the man she loved might not be anything more than a childish dream.

Harrison Thornwick was perfectly happy being the 4th son and totally unlikely to ever be the Earl but when his father, then brothers die he discovers he's up. Grieving for his family he is willing to muddle through but the Prince has plans for him. The Prince himself has declared that Harrison marry Miss Angelina Rule, a woman who defies all the rules.. Smitten but cautious, Harrison has to decide just what is important to him and how he is going to define his life.

This was not a radical regency romance, it's a story about choices, about duty and honor, family and finally Love. Ms. Grey weaves a tale that brings these two together, creates a world where they belong and yet both still find themselves on the outside looking in. Never quite knowing their place until they are thrust into it.

I enjoyed this book it tells a nice story but it lacked a depth and passion that a powerful romance can have. It's ok, this is a strong, sturdy romance that keeps readers coming back for more.

I certainly recommend it.

This is the first book that I have read by Amelia Grey and it will not be the last. I really enjoyed this book. Amelia has a unique style that I found was very satisfying. Sometimes I am a little frustrated by how a book drags on and then all the action happens in the last chapter. This book was different, I was captivated through the whole book. The Earl, Harrison is charming, handsome, witty and is a true gentleman rogue. But the last thing on his mind is marriage. He has just begun restoring his estate from his deceased brother. He has no intention of going to London, even if the Prince of Wales orders him to.

Angelina Rule is in love with her soldier, and she plans on marrying him as soon as he returns from war. Everything changes when her father says that he is in debt and the only way to save their home is for her to marry someone the Prince of Wales picked out for her. She has always been a dutiful daughter, but not this time. She is going to marry her true love and to do that she has to find a way to earn enough money to satisfy her father's creditors.

Harrison comes to London as ordered and meets Angelina. He likes her and wants to get to know her better. There is an instant sexual tension from the minute they meet, he knows what it is and she doesn't understand how she can have feelings for Harrison and love her soldier.

Amelia is a superb storyteller whose books move along at a great pace. Her characters are amazing and have such depth. This book is sensual, charming and touching. I really enjoyed it and now will have to go back and read the first book in the series.

The book starts out where a duel between to men and one dies. Who would have thought that a duel could lead to an enforced marriage, Certainly not Harrison Thornwick. But it's amazing what pressure from the Prince of the realm can achieve. Thornwick is determined to thwart the prince.
Angelina Rule was all set to make her come-out but when informed by her father that she must contract a marriage with Thornwick so that her father might be saved from debtor's prison And her life is turned upside down.
When Thornwick first sights Angelina at a ball he is drawn to her. As he later reflects, 'He'd walked away from love once before and no matter how many times over the years he'd told himself it would be easier the second time, it wasn't true. The problem is that Angelina is having nothing to do with him. An expert miniature painter, she determines to use her skill to buy back her fathers debts. Secretly she paints fans and miniatures for society ladies to hoard the money needed. Thornwick is going to have to use all the weapons in his charm arsenal to capture Angelina's heart once and for all. Because there is also Angelina's true love, Captain Maxwell, whom although there was no overt understanding between them, Angelina has been waiting for. How could Thornwick compete against a more mature gentleman and officer, the man whose return Angelina has dreamt about?
This second entry into the Heirs' Club series is a great book with some surprising twists and turns.

To begin with, I really enjoyed this book by a talented author. Ms Grey has outdone herself in the latest Heir's Club novel with characters that will keep you guessing. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone.
You meet the notorious Harrison Thornwick who is a rake, loves women and has a devil may care attitude about everything. He breaks rules, does things that has the ton talking about, and lives his life the way he wants. But when his father and brothers dies, he's now the Earl of Thornwick. Now everything has changed in his life, beginning with the Prince Regent demand that he marry Miss Angelina Rule.
When Harrison meets the lovely woman, he finds her very appealing in the flesh. He is intoxicated by her allure and wants her in his bed. But Angelina has her opinion on the Prince's demand, and it doesn't include marrying a scoundrel like Harrison. She has her sweetheart that is in the army and awaiting his return.
Angelina and Harrison road to happiness can only be done with lots of stolen kisses and seduction that leads to love.
I appreciate Net Galley for this ARC title in which I gave an honest review.

THE EARL CLAIMS A BRIDE: A Farcical Look at The Regency Period
http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/201...

This novel does a fantastic job showing off the ridiculous nature of the rules governing what each gender in the society could and could not do. For example, gambling your fortune away did not push you from the ranks, but entering trade did. Arranging a marriage for your daughter to pay off debt was accepted, but her selling anything to help pay it off would create a scandal.

Having to fight duels to prove one’s honor after a drunken insult while gambling was illegal but necessary.

Crazy.

Someone comes to tell you of the loss of your brother and his heir, but neglects to bring up the fates of the daughters and the mother — well that’s just sad.

Every era has its own kind of crazy, and we usually see them better in hindsight.

The Prince Regent here goes out of his way to arrange a marriage to the benefit of himself and the girl’s father. Politics between France and England play a part, but the requests of the prince are delivered by his messenger. Was the event important enough to threaten and cajole but not important enough to show up to make the threats himself? The political aspect around which the threatened marriage occurs is not at all developed.

This all points to the Regency period as one of particular dysfunctionality both socially and within families.

The characters, besides Angelina are not particularly well drawn. And we only know she loves dogs, can paint very well, and has long fancied herself in love with an Army Captain. When her father insists she marry someone else to save his his hide, she pretends to agree but searches for another way out of “parson’s mousetrap.”

The narrator has a pleasant voice with reasonable range of accents, ages and handles male and female characters easily. Her pronunciation and phrasing are both excellent. Sometimes they can be so awkward!

The heirs’ club plays little part in this novel outside of the friendships between several characters.

I enjoyed the story; in part because of the farcical nature of the society in which it is placed. With a little more humor it would have been comic farce as well as romance.

This is the second story about Harrison and Angelina, about how they found love in each other despite the worse situation that befall upon them. Harrison became the Earl in a night when a fever took everything he loved from him, his family. While for Angelina, she had to marry Harrison or seeing his father go to debtors' prison because her father couldn't pay his debt to the creditor

The story sounded simple, cute and romantic, but I couldn't find it in myself to love Angeline no matter how hard I try. Maybe this is just my personal preferences, but seeing her going back and forth between Harrison and Captain Maxwell make me a little bit disappointed with her. If she didn't feel something for Harrison I might understand. But it's easy to see that she likes Harrison more than she likes her Captain, so why bother getting herself in a conflict that should have never happen?

I love Harrison, in book 1 he caught my interest, it's just too bad that his love story didn't make me feel excited or happy for him

Overall rating: 3.1 stars, and this is me being generous because of my fondness to Harrison, since he's the perfect gentleman in my eyes

Angelina Rule has been in love with Captain Nicholas Maxwell ever since she was 16 and has dreamed of marrying him. She is devastated when her father tells her she has to marry the Earl of Thornwick and the Prince will take care of all of his gambling debts. Harrison Thornwick is not happy about the Prince’s edict either. He is told to marry Angelina or he will be thrown into prison for dueling. Harrison is at a ball when he sees a young woman who catches his attention and is stunned when he learns the beauty is Angelina. He starts to court her but Captain Maxwell arrives and thinks he has first dibs on Angelina. Now she has to decide—the dashing Army captain who come home with a scarred face or the scoundrel who does what he wants whether society approves or not.

Moving love story as she realizes the infatuation she felt for Maxwell when she was 16 was not love. She realized what she had felt then was only a childish fantasy. It is true love between herself and Thornwick.

Good book, I love the romances that Amelia writes. She give us great characters who are very reliable.

Harrison Thornwick is being force to marry Angelia Rule or face prison.

Angelia has to marry Harrison or her father ends up in prison for his debts.

She tells Harrison that she loves another but they have sparks between them.
Captain Maxwell, her former beau comes back after a year and wants Angelia.

The two men both want Angelia. She has to decide who she wants and who she loves.

She finally decides to help her father by painting fans and miniatures. She is trying to earn enough money to help her father.

She finally realized that Harrison is the man for her.

They find the love that is theirs and theirs alone.

This is a great read. I will read more of her books.

What a delightful read that I totally enjoys from dueling to arrange marriages the author gives you a wonderful read. The book starts out as your normal arranged marriage with both people of interest not wanting it and trying to find a way out of it. I was leaning to a 4 star until the author sucked me in and pulled off one heck of a thrilling read. I am not sure I believe in love at first sight, as with the main character I do believe in lust at first sight, so many people get that confused. There were a few times I just didn’t see anything good coming out of the actions the character took. I have to say the author had me guessing a few time and then turned the tables on me going another way.

Harrison is one daring man who doesn’t play by any set of rules, rules are make to be broken. He and his friends have pulls some hairy tricks in their time and are very lucky to be alive. There is no doubt he is a rake, a scoundrel at best. I really liked this character he was honest to a T, very up front. A man any women would love to call him hers and none will. His life is based on honor, his word and his actions. He does what he wants living his life to the fullest never thinking about the future since he is so far down the line to the Earl he had no worries. He got the news that his whole family has died he is the last in the line. He takes this news hard and returns to rebuild his home that was burned. The Prince has other plans for him that he isn’t to happy about. He must WHAT marry some lady, what is wrong with her that she can’t find a man herself. He looks up from the crowd room to see a woman who takes his breath, wishing this was the women the Prince had picked for him. It was lust at first sight. What he would give to have this lovely beautiful lady in his bed. He was much surprised to find this was the lady the Prince had picked. Much to his surprise the lady is stubborn and doesn’t want him as a husband, well he isn’t to thrilled with that husband thing either but it is looking better. Then she hits him right where it hurts she is in love with another man. He sure has his work cut out for him.

Angelina has plans of her own she fell in love with a soldier at sixteen and waited many years to call him her own. All they had were looks and a few chats but both knew in the end they would be together. Now her father tells her she must marry another man to help pay his debts or he will go to jail. She is torn between helping her father by marrying a man she has never met that has built a bad reputation for his self or marrying the man she truly loves. I adored Angelina for her strong willed ways. She is a sweet heart and will do just about anything to help her father. There must be another way to pay his debts and still have the man she loves. Family is important to her along with her love of animals she has a weakness for strays really anyone in need. She has a heart of gold but will not be push. It does seem Harrison pushes all her wrong buttons the man is a pain as he drivers her crazy with the things he does and said. Just when she thinks she can’t take anymore of his pushy ways he turns the table on her and does the sweetest things. She put a plan in action to get the money her father needs along with keeping her father and the prince happy. Harrison decides to go along with her plan until he can win her heart. It does seem the world is against them both and the tide will turn as they dance around feelings, wants and needs to find they are right back where Harrison started. The question will be who can win and keep the lady and what will she do to get the man she wants. But is this really the man she wants?

I didn’t care to much for Angelina father for many reason one being that he ran up the debt and expect her to give up her life to pay them. There are so many wonderful characters from Harrison friend to their family. Angelina grandmother is a darling who really wants what is best for her and stand beside her in every way. Maxwell well he had my heart for a time and then he lost it. I did feel sorry for him and I felt his pain. It must have been really hard for him to face all his piers on his return along with the women he wanted to make his. I adored how Harrison made it fair for him in so many ways even when he knew he might not come out of top. That is all I am going to say about Maxwell to find out why he found it hard to face his friends you will have to read the book.

I fell in love with this story about the half way point for many reasons. For me that is when the book took off. The if or how Harrison wins Angelina is the best, the lovely things he does most would think he was nuts me I thought they were wonderful, thoughtful and just darling. I feel the author gave a wonderful read from both side of the characters. She puts some twist in there that you have to wonder what the outcome will be. I know I kept thinking not good will come out of this. This is a story about duty, honor, family, choices and love. The author gives a very touching, heartbreaking read where honor and duty is above all. She gives you outstanding characters that you can feel their pain as well as their passion. The author gives you a few heated scenes that goes well with the period of time she writes about. I thought the story was well written with a great plot. This can be a standalone read but you will want to go back and read book 1 just to find out how the other character got together. I have not but plan on it my guess is it will be as good as this one is. This is the first I have read of this author but it will not be the last.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was an okay book. It had some potential that kept me reading, but never really reached the, I can't put it down, stage.

I was intrigued with the plot - Harrison must marry Angelina by decree from the prince, and I liked their first meeting. Good banter, a bit of rebuff from the lady, and the attraction Harrison felt for her. Were all positive starts. However, even though Harrison had the "I will win her" attitude and was "set to have her for himself" which I usually love in a historical romance. This was missing the chemistry to pull it off, as the story moved on.

The narration was done well. I would listen to them again.

Harrison Thornwick has had his carefree days as a reckless rogue came to and end when his family died. Making him the currant Earl. Angelina Rule is a spectacular beauty who would do anything to keep her father from prison. The Prince has offered to secure a bride for Harrison and Angelina is it.
Wanting to rebel at the royal order of marriage, until she meets the devilishly charming Harrison. With him by her side, they will devises a scheme that will teach all the meddlesome people a lesson, while finding a love and passion for them both.

Another good novel from Grey. Again, reformed rakes are catnip, and this virginal miss had as much personality as the last one. I loved the way the hero handled the romance, giving the woman space and asking for consent before breaking the rules (when it came to her person anyway). I love the friendship. And I felt for the man on the side who was never going to win the girl. Good story line overall, although the use of the Prince is as weird in this book as it was in the last one.

I liked both protagonists. The hero comes into his title unexpectedly by tragedy, but rises to the challenge. The heroine is intelligent and works to come up with a solution to her problems rather than waiting for a hero to solve them. She is a little childish in her dreams of love to a man 20 years older that she has barely spoken to and has not seen or heard from in over a year, but she comes to realize that is infatuation and not love.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Harrison and Angelina are interesting and well-developed characters. I enjoyed their journey and romance. I found these two relatable and I was sucked into their story from the start. I enjoyed getting to see Bray and Louisa from the previous book in the series – but I would have liked to have seen more of them. Many of the secondary characters added colour to the story, especially the animals. Loved the dogs.

3 stars. The quality of the writing seemed a bit lower than most books I read. Also, this narrator’s voice is distracting to me as it’s too precise (fake accent maybe?). I also felt the “love” came about too quickly to be believable. But I did like some aspects of the plot. I laughed out loud when she jerked the eye patch off of the captain and ran around with it.

A real good read. Don't have time for full review, but give this book a chance. Nice, easy to read, fun romance. Loved both Harrison and Angelina's chemistry. Some of the best moments in the book? The dogs! Sam and Mr. Pete my favorite. Can't hate a book with good dog moments.

Harrison wants to choose a wife, not do the Regent's bidding. Miss Angelina Rule wants to pick her husband, not wed to release her father from debt.

But the two meet and find themselves somewhat compatible.
