When you’re sold by the one person who’s supposed to love you unconditionally, life is just seen so much differently. Now, at the age of 21 it’s my turn. Do I jump, or do I fall? If I jump, whose arms will they be into?

Zach’s, with his forest green eyes and strong leadership?
Andrew’s, with his flirtatious ways and out of this world lavender eyes?
Maybe Mathew with those delicious baby blues and a brain I could never get tired of learning about.
Or will it be Tommy who is by far the tallest, has a build that screams I'll protect you with my life and those incredibly dark features I get completely lost in.

But, sigh, what if I’m meant for all four men? Is it possible that all four are meant for me?
Why do I keep hearing growls? Actually, am I hearing that correctly? I am, right?

If I fall, do I take everyone with me? Or do I just let my life go? My dreams, my ambitions - walk away from it all.
How can I let it all go though? Am I able to submit myself fully to this life and to its ways?

Because Sugar Society is so much more than just a name!

Check your trigger warnings! I don’t want to spoil anything here but check them if needed ❤️

Thank you Melissa Raylene for the ARC. These are all of my honest thoughts and opinions.

Rating 4.0/5

Such a fun WILD & dark, short book! This one will not be for everyone definitely.

I literally was so invested in each relationship with Kaylynn.
I love how she felt so comfortable even while being so confused at the beginning. That honestly stood out to me the most.

Now this is dark. {if you’ve checked the trigger warnings}
But I have no problem dabbling on the dark side. I really enjoyed this one. The pacing was good, the story line its self was entertaining and kept me interested.

“We may be dicks, and we are hard as hell to deal with, but when it comes to her, we will put her above all else.”

The way that each guy took care of Kay was beautiful. Each one took a different approach to gain her trust and I loved that.

I loved Tommy the most. I’m not even sure why exactly but he definitely had me hooked.
Kay was a bad ass and I love her so much.

“Oh that’s so cute baby girl, thinking you can run from me.”

🌍 𝕎𝕠𝕣𝕝𝕕 𝕓𝕦𝕚𝕝𝕕𝕚𝕟𝕘, 𝕨𝕣𝕚𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕚𝕟𝕘:
I don’t understand this book, I’m gutted because I have been so desperately looking forward to it and yet it was a huge let down.
So first of all I want to say that the author had a damn good plot here and great characters, with a decent team to help catch the inconsistencies this would have been amazing!
The world building was fun and light, spanning 3 locations. The pacing was a little up and down but it didn’t drag as the writing style was so easy to follow and understand.

But…
Where was the beta team? Or the editor? So many things should have been caught, gaps closed and confusion explained. There were scenes where I had no clue what was going on in relation to where the characters were standing/positioned. There were scenes that were explained later but the explanations didn’t fit because we saw none of it. It felt like there needed to be a big secret that the dad was keeping sand the only way to keep that secret was to under explain some scenes and then tell us about what happened after- which left me not believing it and utterly confused.

I was left with sooo many questions when I got to the end of the book, things about why her dad did what he did was never explained. Neither was the information around his actions whether they were done alone or with accomplices or with the knowledge of anyone else. Nextup- the syrup was never explained at all, when the recipe was changed we didn’t learn why that new ingredient was thought of let alone how it was extracted, how much or where from? There is also the commotion with the missing shipments, that is never resolved, denials were made by all so that was left as a loose thread. Above I mentioned about a seen being explained later on-when the traitors were captured and made to talk we learned things that made no sense whatsoever and did not fit with the things we were shown at the time. Another question left unanswered was why the mind link cut off and came back when it did. A few spicy scenes I don’t understand were the exhibition ones- for protective alphas they were ok with everyone seeing her? No inner monologue about how they hated it or tried to angle their bodies to shield her. And the first spicy scene we got- uh? Ok… that just didn’t gel with me, totally didn’t believe that for one minute, either the allowing her to be solo, the public punishment or the fact that not one of them brought up that not only was she a virgin, but she’d never even been hugged or kissed! Just more aspects that didn’t fit in the story at all. Then there is the somno scenes, I thought it would be either a hate sleep/ get what you can or a loving one where your woken up to stuff going on, it was neither though, so that scene I really did not understand at all? It just wasn’t explained so we didn’t get the point? Was it to get his seed in her, Was it because that’s the only time slot he had, did he just want her asleep and unable to respond or remember? I dunno, just felt pointless without direction/description.
There’s lots more but I will stop there.

Spice wise I’ve rated it 3.5 because there is tushy play, lollipop licking, somno and blood play but it’s no where near as spicy as I thought/expected. For the frequency of the scenes I’d give it 2 chillies, for the explanations I’d say maybe 2.5 and there’s not enough scenes of them together- as in more than just one alpha and her. I read rev harem for the team work wether it’s all holes filled or sword crossing too I don’t mind, so to get spice with just one guy at a time was disappointing to say the least. And those times were over and done with so quickly, no worshiping or exploring or adventure… I was let down by these men that claimed she was their queen…

I enjoyed the twists that were thrown in, I enjoyed the secret society aspect and I liked the mystery of her birth. I just wish the author had gotten more support to truly bring her story to life.

🧝‍♂️ ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕤:
I enjoyed the possessive nature of the alphas and the rebellious nature of the Omega.
I didn’t like how up and down the omega was though, one minute she was extremely hard on herself, shy and withdrawn, just doubting and questioning everything. Next it’s a full flip and she’s strong and bossy, demanding and stern. I couldn’t understand her character, there was no character growth within her to build up the confidence. She always had a defiant side but it became more than that which was great but then it back tracked again.

The guys all came across as strong and competent. They were utterly devoted to her right from the start but with a hint of alpha authority- do as your told, which I always appreciate! I found the guys very contradictory though, they want the world for her, they want her happy and spoiled, yet they stood by and did nothing for her from the day they found her to the day they claimed her, no making demands to her father to treat her better or dropping gifts off etc… then they didn’t seem to know it was her birthday? Erm…? And when they did find out they didn’t do much about it FOR HER.
The villain of the story was well written, when it came to the confrontation I thought it would be a tougher battle, drawn out a bit more to show how difficult it all is?

I loved the best friend, I wish we got some more info on her though, like how she found her pack and their traditions for example.

⭐️ DNF

⭐️⭐️
I managed to finish it but it was rubbish. I won't keep a physical copy and won't recommend it, but  it's a shame as the plot could have made a good book in another author's hands

⭐️⭐️.5
It was OK. I wish I didn't start this one as it didn't do it for me as I struggled to read it. It had an interesting premise that fell flat but I had to see what happened in the end.

⭐️⭐️⭐️
I don't regret reading it, and I will read the next one, but this one did have a few flaws. [These could be repetitive writing, gaps or plot holes, better character growth or world building, areas needing more detail]
Generally, the book lacked depth and became confusing. The plot resonated with me even though it annoyed me on the whole.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to the right people, but I wanted more! Sadly, it's easily forgettable with a few issues I just couldn't overlook/get past.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Good book! I loved it, but... I needed more! I really did enjoy it, but it had a few parts that needed more detail or added history/background or lore. But that's because the story or characters were memorable, and the plot was strong with brilliant twists. I would re-read if I needed to catch up for the next book and would recommend.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Great book! I truly wish the story had been thought about more, or the author had been given more time as this book is so close to brilliance! I will likely read again and will definitely be recommending it to all!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
WOW! Absolutely amazing book! Well written with great characters and a plot so memorable that it will stay with me. I will definitely read this again, I will be recommending it and sharing it with the whole world! Also- I NEED A PHYSICAL COPY!

🔥⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🔥
This is my God level tier. The book must be perfectly memorable. Even after reading 50+ more books, I will remember character names and emotions along with the plot. If there is a special edition, then I need to own it! If there is a conversation on books- I'm talking about this!

 SPICE SCALE:
🌶️– segsual language and a little on-page action

🌶️🌶️– a lot of segsual language and some on-page open door action, may be occurring a couple of times

🌶️🌶️🌶️– a lot of explicit action and dirty talk, occurring frequently with 2/3 lurvers

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ – super graphic and explicit, occurring 4 or more times, can be more grey and taboo themed. Possibly with toys and kinks

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ – Kinks and Fet!shism, explicit and super graphic. It is likely to be tushy play, toys, playrooms, and more dark / taboo fantasies and realities.

This was a fun spicy or should I say sugary little treat.

I don’t normally read a lot of shifter omega romance but I ate this up! Kaylynn was fun and loving the dream with those brothers 🥵

Plus this bad mental health rep and a plus size FMC who is worshipped. Sign me up!

This had a lot of favorite microtropes and kinks of mine in it and I loved that. Plus a couple scenes are gonna live in my head rent free.
This ARC came in at a great time because I had been reading some heavy stuff and this was the treat I needed. I’m in a sugar coma from how fast I devoured it.

I want Little Reds story next 🫦🥵

I'm a huge fan of the omegaverse stories, shift or non shifter, either way I'm reading it. This contains werewolf shifters. You've got the mafia/ secret society aspect, with a hidden omega who is ignorant to everything.

Kaylynn is the hidden omega who's been sold to 4 brothers by her father. They are the current alphas in training. She's unaware of her status and the society in general.

For me there were a few things that didn't work. You don't get much background on the brothers, so it felt hard to connect. At times the plot was a bit forced/rushed. So I didn't get a sense of satisfaction. Now is this a quick read, absolutely yes, it's just around 200 pages. Others may not feel the same and thus enjoy it more.

Sugar Society by Melissa Raylene is messy, dark, fast-paced, and all-around enveloping but, in the best way possible. We have unhinged power dynamics mixed with the hierarchy of an Omegaverse. Kaylynn is guarded and hurt, trying to regain her “own” life. Her father kept her locked away her entire life only allowing her to leave when she was younger to attend society gatherings. Then her father does the worst thing imaginable, he sells his daughter to four brothers who run the society.
I loved that each man has a distinct way of connecting to Kaylynn and this is really where the book hits a home run. I do wish that the book was a little longer and delved more into character building and world development. This book would have been 5 stars if it were not for those aspects. The storyline is solid and intriguing, but I needed more (wanted). It in no way takes away from this short read whatsoever. There are a few questions that never got answered in the book and I feel like they should have been addressed because they played a big part in the narrative.

Overall, an incredibly fun read and I will definitely be picking up the next book in this why choose series. I would like to thank Melissa Raylene for the eARC. Truly, a unique way of blending different genres and tropes and I am here for it!!!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 Star Review — Sugar Society

If you love possessive alphas, fated mates, and a heroine who has to fight for her own worth, Sugar Society is going to hit just right.

This shifter romance gives you four intense, dominant alphas and one chosen omega they can’t get enough of—and honestly, the dynamic is addictive. From the start, their obsession with her is undeniable. She’s everything they’ve been waiting for… even if she doesn’t quite believe she deserves them.

What really stood out is her internal struggle. She’s not instantly confident or accepting of this new life. Coming from a past shaped by a worthless father, her sense of self is shaky at best. Watching her try to reconcile what she knows about love (or lack of it) with what these alphas are offering adds a deeper emotional layer to the story.

The alphas? Exactly what you want:

* Protective to the point of dangerous
* Completely devoted
* A little (okay, a lot) possessive 😏

The chemistry is strong, the tension builds well, and once it takes off, it does not slow down. The spice is definitely there, but it’s balanced with her growth as she slowly starts to accept that maybe—just maybe—she deserves this kind of love.

Overall:
A satisfying, steamy shifter romance with a strong found-family vibe and a heroine learning to reclaim her worth. If you’re into reverse harem, alpha energy, and emotional healing wrapped in spice… this one’s worth the read.

Sugar Society pulls you into a dark, intoxicating world where love, ownership, and survival blur into something dangerously addictive.

At its core, this is not just a romance—it’s a story about control, surrender, and the terrifying question of choice when choice feels like an illusion.

The heroine’s reality is unsettling: sold by the person meant to protect her, she’s thrust into a life where four powerful men each represent a different kind of pull—protection, temptation, intellect, and danger.

Zach feels like leadership and stability.
Andrew is charm wrapped in chaos.
Mathew is intelligence and quiet fascination.
Tommy is raw strength and undeniable intensity.

But the real hook? The emotional tension of not knowing if she belongs to one… or all.

This book thrives on psychological tension, forbidden dynamics, and that lingering sense of “what am I willing to become to survive?”

It’s dark romance with a seductive edge—messy, addictive, and emotionally consuming.

This is my first ARC and this book did not disappoint. Thank you so much Melissa Raylene for the opportunity. I will admit shifter romances or why choose were never really my go to but this book has honestly changed that opinion. I highly recommend reading the trigger warnings.

Pros in my opinion:
This book is short in just over 200 pages of why choose romance and short chapters that help move the story along. Something I loved about this book is that the FMC is curvy or “thick” and that is not something I come across often and if I am honest, I found it very refreshing. There are four MMC‘s and each one of them has their own personality but one thing they all have in common is their commitment to the FMC.but needing to always read one more chapter. I love a book with a perfect amount of spice and this one delivers. I enjoyed this book overall as I could not put it down and at work all I could think about was what was next in the story.

Cons in my opinion:
I think the only issue I had was I would’ve wanted more of a backstory for the FMC, but that is just me being picky.

This was a really interesting and darker take on reverse harem. The setup pulls you in right away, and there is a lot of tension surrounding the main character and the choices she has to make.
I liked that each of the guys had a distinct personality, which made the dynamics feel more layered instead of repetitive. There is a mix of intrigue, attraction, and uncertainty that keeps things moving.
It definitely leans into darker themes, so it is not a light read, but if you enjoy reverse harem with a bit of mystery and intensity, this is worth checking out.

This was a super quick read. And it was why choose, shifter, dark romance. It has a different take on the whole fated mate story. But that might have taken just a little bit from the story for me. Four Alpha's sharing one mate?? I don't know it just didn't pull it off for me. Alpha's sharing takes a way a bit of the whole Alpha possessive/obsessive trait we all love so much.

I will say I did like the characters. The personalities were very entertaining. There was a good amount of spice in it, that kept me turning pages. The ending was pretty cute too with it being 10 yrs later and the family dynamic. I gave it 3 stars and 2 chili peppers.

PLEASE READ THE TW BEFORE GOING INTO THIS!

This was a fun little book to read! It was my first book in the Why Choose and wolf shifters tropes, and I really enjoyed it.
All the men were incredibly possessive. Plus, the FMC with mental health issues and the plus-size were really well-developed.

Sugar Society… more like Spicy Society. I love a good Omegaverse story and was delighted to read this one! I was intrigued in reading about an Omega with a unique difference from the others I've read, as I've not read a lot that revolve around shifting Alphas, but I'm definitely going to sink my teeth in it more. The instant love towards Kay was built up through trauma releasing and self-medication to solidify the relationship between the Omega and her pack, making their bond more emotional. The characters were likeable and relatable. The story was enticing. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

*spoilers*
Kaylynn has never felt truly loved in the skin she lives in. She often turns to self-medicating in order to actually feel something. And on her birthday, she would much rather do anything than spend it locked up in her bedroom all night. So, she sneaks out to attend the nearest club.

What she didn't expect to happen on her one night out was to catch the attention of an Alpha pack settled in the club. But unbeknownst to her, they've already been keeping track of her. Because they know she is not like the other Omegas. She's one that can't shift. And they have already laid claim on her when her father agreed to sell her to them.

But one of their fathers disapproves on the Omega they have chosen. And after kidnapping her, he’ll make sure they all understand that he's in charge. What he didn't think was how much her pack would already care about her and they'll stop at nothing to have her returned so they can mate and be with her for the rest of their lives.

I absolutely loved this story. The one thing Kay has wanted, she finally receives with a notable happily ever after ending. The connections were strong. The affection for their Omega was constantly growing throughout the plot. And the spice was heavily inserted… in more ways than one. If this is the first book in the series, count me in for the next one!

Review of advance copy received from Author
April 29, 2026
Melissa Raylene really came in and said buckle up because Sugar Society is not for the faint of heart and I mean that in the best way possible. This book pulled me in instantly and I could not put it down.

Kaylynn’s story is one that stays with you. Being sold by someone who is supposed to love and protect you changes everything, and you feel that shift in how she sees the world. There is this constant tension inside her between giving up and taking control of her life, and watching her navigate that was emotional, raw, and honestly powerful.

And then we have the men. Zach, Andrew, Mathew, and Tommy are all completely different but each one brings something that Kaylynn needs in a way only they can. Zach has that strong leadership energy that feels steady and grounding. Andrew is playful and flirtatious but still pulls you in deeper than expected. Mathew brings intelligence and depth that makes every interaction feel meaningful. Tommy is pure protective energy and intensity, the kind that makes you feel it in your chest.

What I loved most is how Kaylynn connects with all of them. It never felt forced. It felt layered, emotional, and complicated in a way that made sense for her journey. The dynamic between all five of them is intense, addictive, and a little chaotic in the best way.

There is also this darker edge running underneath everything. The hints of something more with the growls and the power dynamics kept me on edge and made the story feel even more consuming. You never fully feel safe and that just adds to the pull of it.

At its core, this story is about Kaylynn finding herself again. It is about survival, choice, identity, and what it means to take back control when everything has been stripped away. That emotional depth is what really made this a five star read for me.

Sugar Society is dark, spicy, emotional, and completely addictive. If you love reverse harem, strong but wounded heroines, and morally complex men who will do anything to protect what is theirs, you need this book.

Five stars and I am already thinking about a reread because I am not ready to let Kaylynn go just yet

Sugar Society by Melissa Raylene is a dark and fast paced omegaverse romance that blends danger, power dynamics, and protective instincts into an engaging and easy to devour read. With its why choose setup and morally grey characters, the story leans into intensity while keeping a strong focus on survival and belonging.

Kaylynn’s journey starts from a place of hardship, and her desire for freedom and safety is clear from the beginning. Watching her step into an entirely new world adds an element of discovery that keeps the story moving. As she begins to understand who she is and where she fits, there is a sense of growth that anchors the more intense elements of the plot.

The four male leads each bring their own distinct presence, creating a dynamic that feels layered and varied. Their protective nature and loyalty toward Kaylynn are constant, and their different personalities add depth to the group as a whole. The concept of fated mates adds to the intensity, giving their connection a sense of inevitability.

The story carries a steady pace and includes moments of tension that keep things interesting, especially as secrets begin to unfold and the stakes rise. The darker themes are present throughout, giving the book an edge that fits well within the genre.

This earns a 4 star rating because some aspects of the relationship development feel rushed. The emotional connection and trust between Kaylynn and the group do not always feel fully established, which can make certain moments less impactful. There are also times where withheld information creates frustration, as it limits Kaylynn’s ability to fully understand her situation.

Even with those points, the story remains entertaining and easy to get through in a short amount of time. The characters, concept, and overall tone make it a solid entry into the omegaverse genre.

Overall, this is an enjoyable read with strong potential, offering a mix of intensity, romance, and suspense that will appeal to fans of darker, character driven stories.

This book got intense fast. Poor Kaylynn kept secret and hidden from the world for 21 yrs. But shes not as secret as she thinks. Because 4 Alpha brothers know who she is and have been waiting for her.
Zach- the Head Alpha brother with those green eyes and tone that will have you on your knees begging him for more.
Mathew- The Regal Quiet Alpha brother. But dont let that fool you he will protect them and outsmart anyone who tries to take whats theirs. I wish we heard more from him though.
Tommy- The "Touch her and I'll you use as practice with my 🔪, and make you regret your whole life" Alpha brother. Hes a force noone wants to see behind closed doors on the other end of his interviews. Hes the tallest of the 4 brothers with dark eyes ita like swimming in a chocolate sea you never want to look away.
Andrew- The way his lavender eyes and buttery smooth words not only excite Kay but make her feel safe and loved like she deserves and never got before these 4 brothers.
Kaylynn- a strong & fierce woman who finally has people who love her and empower her to be everything they know she can be and more and wake up a side thats confident in her own skin. The way these 4 men never treat her less than the Queen she is all those years and love her just as fiercely as the day they laid eyes on her, if not more, is exactly the type of HEA we all love after everything. Mates forever!!

I do wish I knew who was talking at times though, because multiple people are talking and it gets confusing when it doesn't say whos speaking or who said what, but I figured it out lol. And that ending I wish I knew how many years ahead it went because it was quite a jump with no warning, but it was mess worthy. 😈🥵💦

Quote

“You know, you're not going anywhere Kay, baby. We will end this world, if only to have you.
So, when you forget, we will pick you back up, because our Queen never deserves to feel like she’s anything less than that, a Queen. You complete us Kay. You are what makes my brothers and I feel whole. Without you, we are nothing more than just a shell of a body.”
~Tommy

I’m so lucky and so blessed, because Sugar Society is so much more than a name, it’s my life! A life worth living!

My original rating is 2 1/2 but I had rounded up.
This was one of those books that I can appreciate more than I actually enjoyed. It wasn’t a bad read by any means. it just ultimately wasn’t for me. It falls outside of the kinds of books I would normally choose for myself, so I went in a little unsure of what to expect. To its credit, it ended up being far more intriguing than I anticipated, especially with the mix of genres and tropes that felt fresh and unfamiliar to me. There were several elements that caught me off guard and kept me curious about where the story was headed.

That said, the pacing felt both fast and strangely uneven. Events moved so quickly that I never felt fully grounded in the world or the relationships. One of the biggest examples of this was how quickly the female main character became comfortable with a group of men who were complete strangers to her. It was hard to fully believe or connect with those dynamics because there wasn’t enough buildup to make them feel natural.

I also found the male POV chapters much stronger and more engaging. They added depth and personality that I felt was sometimes missing elsewhere, and I often looked forward to their perspectives more than the main storyline itself.

My biggest criticism is that the book often felt like it was written from inside a dream; hazy, surreal, and sometimes skipping over details that could have made the story richer. There were so many moments where I wanted more explanation, more world-building, and more expansion on interesting ideas that were introduced but never fully explored.

Overall, this was a decent read with some creative and compelling aspects, but it didn’t fully click with me. While I can see why others might enjoy it, it just wasn’t the right fit for my personal taste

Book Rating:⭐ 3.75/5
Spice Rating:🌶️ 4/5

This book was a chaotic dark romance ride, and honestly? I had a fun time with it. Sugar Society leans hard into the darker side of omegaverse with possessive alphas, secret societies, primal vibes, and a WHOLE lot of spice.

What kept me invested the most was Kaylynn and her relationship with the pack. She spends so much of the story trying to figure out her place after growing up feeling unwanted and overlooked, so watching these men become fiercely protective and devoted to her hit really well for me. Each character brought something different to the relationship, and I liked seeing the different ways they tried to earn her trust and make her feel valued. Tommy especially... had me hooked from the start.

It is pretty fast-paced, dramatic, messy, and full of tension. The secret society aspect mixed with wolf shifters gave it this fun, darker atmosphere that made it easy to read. And the spice? Yeah... this book definitely gives you the spice!! If you like your romance dark, kink-filled, and full of TW, then this is for you.

Even though I had fun, I did have some slight issues with the story. There were times when I felt confused about certain plot points and wanted more explanation, especially toward the end. Some things felt lost and not fully committed to, and I was left with a few unanswered questions that kept this from being a 4+ star read.

Overall, this was still a fun, spicy, dark paranormal romance that kept me entertained the entire time. Definitely a vibe read. If you love why choose, possessive alphas, secret societies, and darker omegaverse vibes, this may be one to check out.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This one is unhinged in the best way. Dark, fast-paced, and the kind of story that pulls you in before you even realize what’s happening. I went in expecting a quick read… and got emotionally invested instead.

Sugar Society drops you straight into a brutal reality where trust is shattered early, and from there it’s all about survival, power dynamics, and figuring out where you belong when your choices don’t really feel like choices at all. Kaylynn isn’t soft or passive....she’s hurting, guarded, and trying to navigate a situation no one should ever have to face, and I loved that we actually see her fight through that internally.

The dynamic with the four men is where this really shines. Each of them brings something completely different to the table....different energy, different approach, different way of earning her trust and it never felt repetitive. It felt intentional. Protective without being identical, which made the relationships way more interesting to watch develop.

And listen… the omegaverse elements? They add that extra layer of tension and intensity that just keeps building. There’s this constant edge to everything....emotionally and physically....that makes it hard to put down. Definitely not a “light read,” so checking trigger warnings is a must here.

It’s messy, dark, a little wild, but also layered with growth and connection in a way I wasn’t expecting for a shorter read.

If you’re into:
Reverse harem
Protective, morally gray men
Hurt/comfort with bite
Omegaverse dynamics
Dark themes with emotional payoff

…this one’s going to become your next obsession.

I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and voluntarily will be giving my honest review. Please check your triggers before reading this book because this book is not for the faint at heart and will not be for everyone. Absolutely loved this story Kaylynn was sold to a secret society by someone who is supposed to be protecting her and love and care for her! She is very confused at first as she doesn’t know what going on but then learns to love these guys and ends up falling from them all. I devoured this book from the very beginning!! But agin please check your triggers before reading.

“When you’re sold by the one person who’s supposed to love you unconditionally, life is just seen so much differently.

Because Sugar Society is so much more than just a name!”

Sugar Society by Melissa Raylene, provided via Dark Romance Team, is a fast-paced dark why choose romance that combines morally gray characters, omegaverse elements, emotional tension, and dangerous relationship dynamics into an addictive reading experience.

The story follows Kaylynn, a guarded FMC whose controlling father kept her isolated for much of her life before ultimately selling her to the four brothers who run the mysterious Sugar Society.

One of the strongest aspects of the story is the dynamic between Kaylynn and each of the four MMCs. As with many strong why choose romances, each relationship offers something emotionally different and helps create balance within the overall group dynamic.

Zach stands out as the stabilizing leader figure within the chaos surrounding the Society, while Andrew brings charm and unpredictability. Matthew offers quieter intelligence and emotional depth, while Tommy carries a more intense and possessive energy throughout the story.

The fast pacing keeps the story engaging throughout, making it easy to quickly move through the book while becoming invested in the evolving relationships and darker world-building elements.

Kaylynn’s emotional journey also adds depth to the story as she attempts to reclaim control over her own life and identity after years of isolation and manipulation.

Overall, Sugar Society is an entertaining and addictive dark why choose romance filled with morally gray characters, emotional tension, omegaverse dynamics, and fast-paced relationship development that keeps readers engaged from beginning to end.

Sugar Society has a lot going on, in the best chaotic way possible. It blends dark romance, shifter romance, why choose, mafia, and secret society vibes all into one wild ride.

Kaylynn is an omega who doesn’t even know she’s an omega… and she also can’t shift. After being sold off by her father to the leaders of the Sugar Society, her life changes almost overnight. Things really kick off when she sneaks out clubbing on her 21st birthday and comes face-to-face with the alphas she was promised to.

Enter Zach, Tommy, Andrew, and Mathew 👀

From there, everything escalates fast. Secrets are revealed, dynamics constantly shift, and Kay is thrown headfirst into a world she knows absolutely nothing about. She’s trying to understand her omega side, unravel the truth about her family, and survive the chaos happening around her, all while dealing with four possessive alphas.

At times, it’s a lot to keep up with because events happen so quickly, but honestly? That’s part of the fun. There’s always something happening, no filler, no dragging it’s hit after hit after hit.

If you love dark romance, shifters, why choose dynamics, and mafia energy, you’ll probably have a blast with this. It’s messy, dramatic, spicy, and chaotic in the most entertaining way 😋

✨What to expect:

♟️ Mafia
👥 Why Choose
🐺 Shifters
🌙 Somnophilia
🥷 Masked Men
💦 Breeding Kink
🔪 Knife Play
💪 Primal Energy
🫦 Possessive MMCs
🍭 Secret Society
🔥 Thick FMC

This book was absolutely unhinged and I’m pretty sure my husband now thinks I’ve officially lost it. From start to finish, this was a complete rush and honestly? I think I deserve a lollipop after surviving it (ifkyk)

This book is very spicy and fully embraces the chaotic energy of a knotting shifter romance where the plot is along for the ride while the vibes absolutely take center stage. Definitely check trigger warnings before diving in because there are some darker moments woven throughout the story.

I flew through this in less than 24 hours because I was completely hooked the entire time. There was one scene that gave me such intense secondhand embarrassment that I was laughing out loud, on the treadmill, creating my own embarrassment. I tried explaining the bathroom couch scene to a friend and somehow we both walked away with more questions than answers.

The pacing is FAST. There were a couple moments where I had to flip back and reread because I thought I skipped a page, but honestly it fit the chaotic energy of the story perfectly. If you love shifter romances and want something wild, spicy, entertaining, and impossible to stop reading, this was such a fun ride.

Thank you so much to Melissa and Literally Yours PR for allowing me a sneak peek!

This was an interesting read for me because it sits right in that space between liking a book and not quite feeling it.
The premise is strong—Kaylnn, a plus-size FMC, discovers she’s more than she thought, tied to three brothers (Andrew, Zach, and Tommy) through a mate bond. The story brings in elements of identity, hidden lineage, and danger from outside forces, which sets up a solid foundation.
And the tropes? Oh, they’re there. Possessive MMCs, primal dynamics, praise kink, power play—it checks all the boxes.
But here’s where it didn’t fully land for me:
The connection between the characters felt more instinctual than emotional. Because the bond is immediate and biologically driven, I didn’t get that sense of internal conflict or resistance that usually pulls me into a story. It felt less like a choice… and more like a certainty.
I kept waiting for something to disrupt that—some emotional fracture, some moment where they had to fight their way back to each other—but the story remained relatively smooth throughout.
This isn’t a bad book by any means. It’s clean, cohesive, and delivers what it promises in terms of tropes. But for me, I realized I need more emotional tension and consequence to truly connect.
Still, as my first shifter romance, it gave me a lot to think about—and I’m definitely open to exploring the genre further with a deeper focus on execution.

Cozy, Dark, and Filthy Good Chaos

OMG besties… I did not expect to get this hooked on another shifter romance... twice in a row?? But here we are with "Sugar Society" and not even a little bit sorry about it.😏

Kaylynn’s story? Whew. It starts off heavy with that heartbreaking, loveless upbringing, and you can feel her lack of self-worth in every decision she makes. But watching her slowly grow into herself, own her power, and start accepting the love she deserves? Yeah… that hit.

Now let’s talk about the men: Zach, Andrew, Mathew, and Tommy... because WOW. The possessiveness? The protectiveness? The way they orbit around her like she’s their entire world? I ate that up. Add in the brattiness from Kaylynn and the spicy, primal energy between all of them… yeah, it’s giving LIFE.👀

The vibe leans a little cozy, but don’t get it twisted... there are definitely dark edges, suspenseful moments, and emotional intensity woven throughout. Check those TWs, seriously.

Also, getting to experience this as an alpha read and then seeing the polished final version? Chef’s kiss.

If you love why-choose, shifters, and a heroine finding her strength while being adored by multiple dominant men… then this needs to be added to your TBR.😉

Kaylynn desperately needs a night out. On her 21st birthday, she sneaks away despite her father’s strict isolation—no friends, no parties, no phone, no social media. Books have been her only escape, but even that feels hollow when every choice is controlled.

Zach and his brothers (Tommy, Andrew, and Matthew) lead the Sugar Society, and Kaylynn is their mate. They’ve known since childhood and kept her secluded for protection, fearing she’d be sold if discovered. When she stumbles into their club, they seize the chance to bring her home—but she slips away again.

The premise is compelling, but the execution felt uneven. Protective instincts clash with public displays of dominance, and the brothers’ decision to drug and claim Kaylynn without explanation left me unsettled. Zach’s admission of sleeping with other women despite knowing Kaylynn was his mate also felt inconsistent with the mate-bond trope.

Overall, the book has an intriguing plot but suffers from flow issues and contradictions that pulled me out of the story.

Green eyes and strong leadership?! I feel like Zach was written just for me, ohh, how much I loved him. And the female lead, Kaylynn! She was the absolute best, I loved her personality so much, sassy, strong, struggling with self love. She was relatable in many ways, our personalities resonated so well. And when they called her Kay Baby, I swear I melted every single time! Ohh, and Little Red! She was amazing, I truly hope there will be book about her, we'd be the best of friends if I were in this beautiful novel. I definitely felt completely transported into the story the entire time!

𝐒𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 was an incredibly addictive tale! Why choose romance, mafia, secret society and wolf shifters?! Who needs more in a dark romance! I was completely blown away by how much I adored this book, I felf like the characters became family to me by the end and I honestly had the absolute best time with this beautiful story.

Highly recommend reading this book to everyone! I'm so excited for book two!

A read that started off in a certain way, only to end with “What on earth did I just read?!”

And it’s a shame, because all the elements were there: the FMC, Kaylynn – known as Kay – Winston is about to turn 21, and she’d like to spend an evening outside her father’s protective wing, heading to the Sugar Society. It’s just a pity she doesn’t know that within those walls there are those plotting behind her back to make her their own!

From the outset, it looked like a #collegeromance, but it soon turned into a #paranormalromance, with plenty of uncertainty surrounding the dynamics between the co-protagonists, who were eager to get their hands on the person ‘promised’ to them.

The twist isn’t the best, given that Kay will discover, quite unexpectedly, that she has been sold out by someone she thought she could trust completely – whilst the question of why this was done remains unresolved, as it seems to benefit the four brothers in need of a partner🤔

The final part didn't get me like I hoped, and I’m not even sure how the book made me feel🫤

I received a copy of this book and am leaving a review voluntarily.

Kaylynn + Matthew + Zach + Tommy + Andrew

Please check your TW before diving into this one. There are a lot of triggers. This dark non-shifter omega/alpha shifter omegaverse romance has layers of deception, dubcon, and FMMM.

Sugar Society follows the story of Kay Baby or Kaylynn. When we meet her she is sneaking out to have one more night of freedom before she is given? sold? to the society. The society has chosen her as their next person.

I really enjoyed how each of the relationships with the FMC. & even though it was under 300 pages it was still packed with high heat moments, character development and a good story arc. I really liked Tommy the best just because of how he took care of Kay baby. I also loved that the dynamic between the 5 of them was different. She was non-shifter and they were shifters. Although her omega was still very present & near the end her omega does shine through which was nice to see her transition.

It is an exciting combination of genres and tropes. This was such a fun wild ride from beginning to end. Poor sweet Kaylynn didn't know what/who was coming or happening at the start. She's kinda just thrown into this crazy world but embraces the heck out of it, finally finding herself and that feeling of belonging. She has four alphas who are a pack and claim her as their mate. Each of them unique enough in their personalities, I did wish for more of a development of their relationship dynamic. For a short/fast read, it did the job.
It's a fun, fast, easy read that had me melting from the heat. The plot was full of action and twists I didn't see coming.
Note: This is not your average adorable "sweet" shifter/omegaverse. This is dark and unhinged and totally entertaining.

Tropes:
Why-choose
Mafia
Omegaverse vibes
Secret society
Wolf shifters
Morally-gray
Possessive/Possesive MMCs
Found Family
Masked men
Primal/Knife play
Somno
Breeding kink
