1. Alex Finch: Monster Hunter (Monster Files 1) by Cate Dean ***3 Stars Alex Finch is a tomboy who loves computers. When she is paired up with ditzy cheerleader Misty for a project events lead them to being attacked by a werewolf. Thankfully they are saved by Sam, the boy Alex has had a crush on forever. Alex can't let go of the fact that werewolves are real and is soon is sucked into the secrets that Sam's family has kept for years. So Sam, Alex and their ragtag band of monster hunters set out to save the town from a supernatural threat. This was cute...that's the most appropriate word I think. I liked that Alex was an uber geek but also tough, she thought rationally but also couldn't stand by with her friends in danger. But I also had a good amount of issues.... -I thought it was weird how much danger Alex's father allowed her to be in -I never caught how old Alex is, she mentions Sam is 18 and older than her cuz she skipped a few grades which seems to me like she might be too young -Everyone was a little too accepting of the monsters that lived in their town and way too eager to put themselves in danger -then there was the 8 year old Hyatt girl who spoke like she was 42 -and finally a strong overuse of endearments and nicknames
2. A Brush with the Moon (Foxblood 1) by Raquel Lyon **2 Stars I thought the story overall had potential but the writing and just overabundance of characters didn't do it any favors. But I think one small scene is a good example of what I didn't like about this one...Sophie receives a bouquet of flowers... "It was far too ostentatious for my taste, so whoever sent it obviously doesn't know me at all. I would have preferred a bunch of daisies or poppies picked from the fields." My interpretation was that this statement was made by a self absorbed, pretentious biatch who thinks herself better than those around her. She adamantly said she didn't want the distraction of men in her life so it wasn't like anyone really knew her besides her roommate...so how could she expect anyone to know her well enough to send her the "right" type of flowers. Also, no one needs to send you anything, generally people accept these kinds of things graciously because someone went out of their way to think of you that day. If the advances are unwelcome that's one thing, but her attitude left a lot to be desired. I know this was one little scene and didn't matter much to the story in general, but I just found it to be a good example of what kind of person Sophie is and why I didn't care for this one.
3. Halloween Magic & Mayhem (Magic & Mayhem 1) by Stella Wilkinson *1 Star I didn't really like this one. Emily finds out she is going to turn into a witch at midnight. Being the daughter and granddaughter of witches and being born on Halloween menas she has to be extra careful because she will probably be powerful and Halloween is a magical day anyway. So with all of that you would think her aunt would have given her a little more warning than a few hours. Also, I just can't stand how dimwitted Emily was about trying to cast a spell on her own, I get she is 16 and immature but I just couldn't stop my eye rolls.
4. The Wrong Girl (1st Freak House 1) by C.J. Archer **2 Stars Hannah has narcolepsy and is also the companion to the pyro kinetic daughter of an earl. Until the day she is kidnapped and she finds out that she isn't who or what she always thought. Well sort of, she never actually gets many answers...at all, therefore you as the reader get no answers. So really what was the point. None of the people who kidnapped her actually see anything wrong with it...and she begins to see nothing wrong with it either. Which I found to be the most disturbing part. Especially since the amount of things that people have lied about grows and Hannah just becomes more accepting. I didn't hate but I probably won't read on either.
5. Sound of Sirens (Tales of Skylge 1) by Jen Minkman **2 Stars This was...weird. Enna and her family live on an island that is terrorized by murdering sea creatures that lure people to their deaths. There are two separate classes on the island. The ruling class claim they protect the island with power from some saint coming to the island years ago...or something. And, for some reason that no one really seems to know, these two groups do not like each other. There is a rebel group that opposes the ruling group and have found alternate means for electricity. This was ok, just really confusing. You really don't get a lot of background or reasoning, and it wasn't quite fantasy and it was difficult to picture what kind of time period it was set in.
6. Deception (The Transformed 1) by Stacy Claflin *1 Star (PR) Alexis is overlooked because of her beautiful and talented younger sister. Lately light bulbs have been exploding when she gets angry and crows have started to follow her around. When she runs into her childhood best friend who had previously moved away (across town) she is suddenly going to a dance with Brookes cousin. When she gets up everyone is completely taken aback by how beautiful she looks all the while telling her that they already thought she was pretty (then why are you so shocked?) Then she meets her date, throws herself into his arms and tells him she missed him and he reply's the same. And she doesn't really think twice about it. The story didn't seem like it was so bad but the character interaction was just awkward and I couldn't deal with it.
7. Wings of Shadow (The Underground 1) by Anna Kyss **2 Stars Meghan is basically kidnapped while traveling abroad before college by a boy named Kiernan. Turns out he is a dark faerie and needs to drink her blood to be able to live in the city with all of the iron and such. She is rescued and sent off to live with the light faeries who are also kind of jerks but in a very hippy way. There she meets Kiernan's twin brother Avery who, much like his brother becomes completely infatuated with Maghan. Eventually the light and dark faeries clash with these three in the middle of the conflict. This was an ok story but it didn't have any depth. Kiernan and Avery both liked Meghan and she liked both of them but there was no good reason and no feeling behind it. I thought the whole Darwin thing was a little out of place also. Mostly though, when Meghan escaped the underground after being imprisoned and someone drink her blood she decided to not contact her family or get on the next plane because....she still had to figure out college and stuff. Generally you have to be alive for college and stuff so you'd think that would be a good starting point.
8. Minor Gods (Summoners 1) by A.M. Yates ****4 Stars Josie has been training her whole life to become the Tribe's next Triune. When her mother is murdered the power skips over her and goes to her sister Josie who is totally unprepared. She struggles to find a place for herself, while only wanting justice for her mother. When it turns out she has a coveted power all of a sudden she becomes a target again. Thankfully, she has a few trustworthy friends in Simone, Kai and Beech and the help of her sisters boyfriend Judah. This book is an example of why I read these anthologies, I loved it. Josie is a great character who is stubborn and moody but has strong morals and truly wants what is best for everyone. I thought the world building was fascinating and I would have liked a little more details into the Tribe society. And then my other problem is a kind of SPOILER................................................................................................I found it odd who the fire guy ended up being. Someone who is so worried about truth and following the rules really put on a good act. I just don't know how I will feel about him going forward since he seems to have alternate personalities.
Some stories better then others, but very amusing alltogether. After a 14 day holiday I finished all books. Best books (as far as I am concerned): The wrong girl (C.J. Archer), Sound of Sirens (Jen Minkman, absolutely loved this one, book 2 is even better), Wings of Shadow (Anna Kyss) and Minor Gods (A.M. Yates, very original setting and storyline). Still haven't made up my mind about the last book (Kissed, The Thorn Chronicles Book 1 By Kimberly Loth). The 1st half of the book got me so depressed, but I couldn't stop reading nonetheless and the story was full of surprises. I also liked Foxblood: a brush with the moon (Raquel Lyon), not because it's so original but because I love hot supernatural guys and love triangles :-)

I had so many issues with this story (couldn't post all of them though). It was either errors with puncutation, grammar, or when the author seemed to forget what she had a character previously say, ending with a bunch 'huh?' moments. But in the end, this was actually a really good, the story moved at a fast pace, and it was interesting.
1. When Alex needs stitches for her cut, why did the thought of going to the hospital never pop into her head? Or when Alex first notices Sam's medical kit, he assumes that the stuff he's using on her is from her mothers?
2. Alex thought to herself, "Because I was attacked by what was a probably a big, feral dog? Who could stand upright and track like a hunter. Keep on believing the lie, Alex." Yes, because dogs, even large ones, don't know how to track?!
3. Sam tells Alex the truth about Jake. For whatever reason Alex was really upset. "It's just awesome discovering that everything you believed about someone you...Someone you'd known most of your life was a big fat lie." What exactly was she was talking about? He hadn't lied to her and wasn't it an assumption that Jake had gone to a mental hospital? Either way, it's not Sam's fault that she believed the rumors, but again, none of that had anything to do with him directly.
4. When Alex runs into Mrs. Emmet and she's wondering where Sam is, why didn't Alex tell her that Sam had gone after his father's car? And whatever happened with that? The fact that it wasn't actually Jake at the cabin was weird too.
5. I just couldn't figure out the underground town. The ceiling is about 8 feet high, so that must mean the buildings are all really small, right? But what kind of town would that have been?
6. After exploring the underground town, everyone is heading home. Alex's father asks Misty if she needs a ride and she informs him that she has a car, but thanks anyways. His response, "My pleasure, beautiful." Was I the only one that considered that kind of inappropriate of him to say to her? Especially considering that was his first time meeting her.
7. When Alex realizes her tires are no good, she's running home. Why did she never call her father or someone to help her?
8. When they're looking for Jake and Katie, Alex tells Katie, "I need you to do something really hard and scary, but it will help me find you. I need you to turn Jake's phone OFF-", then, "We have to keep the battery running as long as possible." To "...the phone has to be active for me to find you", which makes no sense since she tells Katie to turn it off. EVEN BETTER!!! is when they find Jake's phone behind the courthouse, under a bench. "Jake must have dumped it, so no one could track him." HUH? But they were just talking to Jake and Katie on his phone. NO SENSE THERE! How was it possible to make that type of mistake?
9. ANOTHER BIG MISTAKE. So Alex had told her father, at the courthouse, about Jake and what was going on with him. BUT, later on, when her father sees Jake and hears his name, he has no clue who Jake was because, "Dad didn't know. I never told him Jake's name..." Um....yes, you did sweetie!
10. We find out that the Devil is only allowed in the haven IF a Fenris is there as well. But why?
11. So Candace figures out that Alex is a dancer because she lifted her leg up onto Candance's lap?
12. Were the police out looking for the missing kids? I never got that impression. Why wouldn't Candance and Jake have called for help after finding the boy in the underground town, once they reached the surface? Instead of waiting around for the rest of the gang to get there?
13. So...if the only way to get rid of the Devil was with fire... bright light, why wouln't they have gone down waving the flashlights/glow sticks around? Instead they wait till the last minute before bringing the glow stick out.
14. So Sam's first change is a decade AFTER he was attacked? Yet, Jake has been changing since the attack?
15. It's funny how Alex never took a time out to heal and relax, considering all the injuries she got.
16. It's weird how there was nothing more regarding Mrs. Swiller, considering she'd been the one to receive the email after the Devil attack. ------------------------------------------------------------ Raquel Lyon "Foxblood Book 1: A Brush with the Moon" 4/5
I loved this story! I honestly am not sure why it pulled me in as it did, but as soon as I finished reading it, I went and purchased book 2. Although I wasn't really a fan of Sophie; I get a character can grow throughout a story, but I felt like maybe she changed too much. The beginning, she was quiet, shy, and nice, but by the end, she was a total bitch, needing to get her way, smart ass type. I get that her and Lara didn't get along, but the fact that she would say something negative to Lara, everytime she saw her, too much in my opinion. I did love Connor though! I was so hoping that him and Sophie would get together in the end, besides the kiss. Well actually in the beginning I was hoping for him and Beth, but....
1. Sophie gets a flowers from some unknown, either Seb or Vincent. She takes the flowers and uses them in a hair clip. I was so waiting for her to get to the halloween party and either guy mention the fact that she must have liked the flowers. But there was nothing more.
2. One minute Sophie is saying how, "anyone else dresssed as a vampire had some serious competition tonight...", then suddenly it's, "I certainly underdressed and amateurish..." ? If they have competition, that would mean she was very confident, yet, it doesn't sound that way.
3. When Sophie is watching the news about the dead girl, the reporter actually went into detail in regards to how she had been killed... "...stabbed in the and chest with a scalpel knife..." They don't usually say all that on the news, that would have been inappropriate considering the family would be grieving and all. And how did they already know it was a scalpel knife?
4. Why was Lara so surprised when she saw Sebastian's sister? I didn't get that considering she'd been around their family since she was little.
5. When Jimmy started acting weird, Seb takes Lara to the kitchen....how in the world did Sophie know what was going to happen? That Seb was going to explain who Lara really was? Or the fact that Sophie was going to tell Seb and Connors secrets to Beth, before talking with them first?
6. When Jimmy's in the hospital, Beth goes to touch his cheek, which is what someone in that situation does as a sign to show they feel bad, right? So why was Sophie feel like she had remove Beth's hand?
This was a really cute story. Definitely interested in reading more in this series.
1. Why did Emily resent her father when he started dating again, 2 years prior? I mean her mother died when she was 5, I think it was? So he started dating when she was 14....Get over yourself Emily.
2. Why did her parents give her a black cloak for her b-day? I just found that kinda cheesy considering she had just found out she was a witch. ------------------------------------------------------- CJ Archer "The Wrong Girl" 4/5
Big fan of this story! I was hoping for something more historical like to read and magically here it was. I wish there weren't so many unanswered questions. For example, who was Violet? Was she really the Lord Nate's daughter? If so, why was she kept in the attic with Hannah? And those thoughts that she has forgotten!
1. Why did it take Hannah so long before she asked how Jack knew who was who before the kidnapping?
2. When Hannah was still in the attic, had Violet ever burned herself? Jack goes to help her off the horse, he's all hot for her and she feels the heat. She then can't seem to understand how he didn't burn himself.
3. Narcolepsy. I don't remember Hannah ever telling Jack, Sylvia, or their uncle about that issue. They had only thought she was a fire starter. Yet, after the hypothosis appt, suddenly everyone seems to know about it. ---------------------------------------------------------- Jen Minkman "Sound of Sirens: Tales of Skylge" 3/5
I found this story to be somewhat confusing. At the beginning especially; there were all these new things being introduced-people, beliefs, buildings...I was kinda lost there. Overall, it was an interesting story. I still feel like I'm not totally sure what the whole story behind the two groups of people was.
1. I get that the Currents were supposedly the ones that brought electricity to the island(?), but why could the Skylgers not use it? Why weren't they allowed to really interact with each other?
2. Considering all the culture and everything about it was different, as in not real, what was with them speaking German? ---------------------------------------------------- Stacy Claflin "Deception: The Transformed" 2/5
This was an alright story, at least the first half was interesting…after that it seemed to go downhill with mistakes. First off, I wasn’t a fan of Alexis. At first, she’s this nerdy, constantly feeling sorry for herself girl, then suddenly she’s a smart ass, full of herself, bitch. I’m sure all the ‘my princess’ talk didn’t help her ego.
This was the first story so far, out of this bunch, that had a lot of errors; either involving forgetting a word or adding in the wrong word. Maybe it was just me but I felt the author used a ton of repetition. For example, “This time it's not just a practice....Hopefully there won't be any exploding lights this time." Or all the 'homes' mentioning in such a short span. "Someone needs to move into one of our HOMES....One of our HOMES, which is a block away...How many homes do you own....I'll move into that HOME..." Or with all the ‘silver oozed’ or ‘oozing silver blood’….
1. How does someone go from a normal life to finding out they’re a vampire princess and not really bother to ask any questions? That’s how Alexis was most of the time. She has such an important role that the other vampires keep telling her about, she lives in a castle she’s going to be the future queen, there’s a bad guy who’s been looking for her and wants to kill her, want should she be doing when she has a blood craving…any questions? Of course not!
2. Cliff was constantly whining about the fact that he had been waiting so long for Alexis…so why did he wait so long before showing up and introducing himself to Alexis.
3. I never understood why Clara seemed to be pushing Alexis to go to Tanner, since Cliff wasn’t around. Telling her to get to know Tanner more…yes, because she already knew so much about Cliff at that point. How long had he been around? Like a week.
4. After Alexis' b-day party at the restaurant, she picks out a new car...then...goes out to eat? Again?
5. At one point Alexis was craving blood. She's runs around, trying to get the feeling to go away, and "I felt my teeth return to normal and the burning sensation dissipate...” She got the craving to go away, so why did she call Tanner?
6. I think the part of the story where it seemed to do a nosedive was when Alexis was being so obvious that had something more going on…reading Hailey’s mind and then attacking her in her bedroom at night…by repeatedly biting her? Really Alexis?
7. Why didn’t Alexis ever try to contact Cliff sooner, after seeing him in the cabin?
8. I don’t get how Tanner changed so drastically. Being a jock jerk, then suddenly turning into the compassionate best friend, wanting to be boyfriend. Tanner seemed very strange when he decided to walk Alexis to her classes...constantly referring to her as a beautiful girl when someone would say or do something to her. At first I thought, like with typical vampires, they could use humans to do their bidding or weird puppet kind of thing...like she had control over Tanner. But that wasn't the case.
9. When Alexis gets away from Adam, why exactly didn’t she want anyone to know where she was? I mean, common sense would tell you to contact them for help? Yet, after she gets Tanner back, she heads off to find a witch to bless the jewelry and seems to automatically know where her house is? Speaking of jewelry, how did she know the witch would be able to bless it?
10. How did Alexis never wonder or ask how about how Adam was able to turn into a bunch crows?
11. When Clara is tracking Alexis and Tanner in the woods, she ends up telling them that she had been looking for them for important news she had. So…why didn’t she just yell out for them?
12. The necklace box in Cliff’s bed….yeah, it couldn’t have been as important or special as what the author wanted the reader to believe because it wasn’t hidden in the bed, it was just under the blanket…which she easily felt when she laid down on it.
13. When Alexis goes to rescue Cliff from Samantha and Vincent…why did Vincent keep slapping Samantha? I didn’t understand that.
14. The weirdest moment in the story……..Alexis and Cliff are looking around for more bad guys to kills…they go into a room with a large table and surprise! All the good guys are in it, wondering if they’d killed Vincent or not… HUH? I felt like I’d skipped a bunch of pages or something. ----------------------------------------------- Anna Kyss "Wings of Shadown The Underground" 4/5
Big fan of this story and would love to read more in this series. I wasn't the biggest fan of Meghan, she just way too naive/immature...IDK what was with her. I don't really see why Meghan had a hard time choosing between the 2 brothers, Kiernan-the manlier bad boy type, Avery-the sweet brother...but it didn't really matter anyways, since she was going back home...
1. After escaping from Killian, why did Meghan not think going home was a good idea? I never understood that. Without Wish she didn't really know what to do or where to go.
2. If Kiernan had to drain Josie to become alright living in the city and Josie escaped...why wouldn't Killian have just gotten another person? I don't understand what was so special about Josie? They could have gotten a homeless person. --------------------------------------- AM Yates "Minor Gods Summoners Book 1" 4/5
Let me start off with the fact that the Prolongue was very confusing to me. I think this was because there were so many new concepts that were introduced right off. Did that make sense? Anyways, I more skimmed that part than read it. Moving on...I loved the story! It was completely different from what I've been reading and I'm not even sure if I read something like this before...using the masks that represent different gods/goddesses. It was a unique idea. In the end, although Josie had a hard time figuring out who the fire guy was, I did not.
1. I don't understand why everyone was being so mean towards Josie since she wasn't the Triune. I mean she'd spent most of her life training and all for that...god forbid they can give her a break and be a little compassionate.
2. I found it strange that Earth Mama knew who Josie's friends were, yet, didn't know that she couldn't fix masked on command.
3. When contemplating where she should cut the fire guys mark on her, she decides not to do her foot because anyone watching would think it weird she would take her shoes/socks off. Yet....she didn't think anyone would notice her pulling her pants down and lifting her shirt?
4. I was not a fan of Josie at the end, with the fact that she was making out with fire guy/Judah without knowing who he was, getting naked with him, while he's fully clothed...and then not bothering to talk to him? I don't think she's in love with him, the summoner, or the god. Obviously, there was something that drew her to the fire mask, but I think she's just sexually repressed or something. ------------------------------------------------------------ Kimberly Loth "The Thorn Chronicles" 4/5
I really liked this story and it was definitely a hard one for me to put down. The beginning was very real, if you know what I mean, and then it just kind of took off from there. I was disappointed in Naomi when she decided to go back with Kai, instead of staying with Puck and her aunt. Again, I guess it was young love on her part, but still. She would have to go back to dressing and acting how she was before, otherwise it would draw suspicous to her and Kai. That just didn't really make sense to me. How were they going to explain her being there when she was suppose to marry...I forgot the stinky breath guys name darnitt...
1. She's getting her hair fancifide..."I turned around and looked. My hair. I'd never seen anything like it before...", she's obviously surprised with the change. But...then she's looking again after her aunt walks back into the hair place and she's looking in the mirror again, but it's like she's seeing a different person this time. IDK, something was just weird the way the author wrote that part.
2. Why did Ginny never get Naomi reenrolled with school?
3. When the Guardians acquire...I forgot what the little boys name was...what happened with his parents?
4. The most important question of all....How was Kai in love with Naomi? I mean, yeah, he showed up in her room (that was never really explained) and they would kiss. There didn't really seem to be much talking. Yes, her father was the man that Kai thought he was after. But again, how can you be in love with someone that you don't really talk to?

The Wrong Girl (Freak House Trilogy #1) by C.J. Archer - 4 stars She Hannah smith is kidnapped to the freak house she thinks she is protecting her friend violet. She is thrown into one mystery after another.
I really liked Hannah and her attitude about the whole situation. Jack was such a fun and exciting character. I can't wait to see how the story turns out.
Sound of Sirens (Tales of Skylge #1) by Jen Minkman
Deception (The Transformed Series Book 1) by Stacy Claflin
Wings of Shadow (The Underground Trilogy Book 1) by Anna Kyss
Between all the novels, I think it was worth the buy. I liked several of the books like The Wrong Girl by C.J. Archer and Wings of Shadow by Anna Kyss made it worth the three stars for sure. Those two in particular are the BEST of the entire package.
Wouldn't it be horrible to go into a haunted house looking for some notes for a project, and instead find a giant creature that is horrible? In the book Supernatural Touch by Cate Dean, Raquel Lyon, Stella Wilkinson, C.J. Archer, Jen Minkman, Stacy Claflin, Anna Kyss, A.M. Yates Alex finds that creature. This book has a lot of mystery. For instances the creature it was part dog, part wolf, part bear, and many more animals. This book is funny. Like when Alex tells her friend (who lost her notes) " I'm going in and try not to lose my bag." This book is weird because of a weird creature, and many more things. I recommend this book to all mystery lovers.
I read this ages ago, and couldn't remember much about it. I went and looked up which books were in it, and some of them I remembered and some of them I have no recollection of so I can only assume I didn't finish it? EDIT: I tried looking for this last night when I was writing the review and couldn't find it and assumed I'd deleted it. I just found it. I'll try and read the other books in this collection and give an updated review and rating.
Some of the most original stories and concepts in a collection of works that I have experienced this year, I just wished there would have been at least 1 "stand-alone" story in the collection, I really lost sleep while immersed in the stories, couldn't put it down!!!
Some I loved, some not so much. It was a great set to find Authors and stories you like and weed out the ones you don't. It is a great choice for beginners and advanced reader's to this genre.
Loved them all. Great characters and the action in them was terrific. Definitely a series of stories that will keep you interested and cheering for the good guys.
Some of these stories really didn't do much for me at all, and others are right up my street, but that's the joy of an anthology; finding those stories that speak to you.
I wasn't really impressed by this series and I can't remember most of the names of the books. I guess it's good for the price and if your bored or in between other books with nothing to do.
Really started. To enjoy this book as it progressed looking forward to starting the second in this set cate dean has now joined one of my favourite authors
