The first pulse occurred in the old calendar year of 2022. A combination of planetary alignment, the Earth’s rotation and the position of the sun combined to produce the perfect storm. A sequence of gigantic solar flares created a series of massive electromagnetic pulses that stopped the heart of our modern world and returned us to the DARK AGES. And then they appeared . . .from the realms of fantasy, through a gateway in time and space, came the Orcs, the goblins and, leading them all – the Fair Folk.

Nathanial has established the free state north of Hadrian's wall and the Fair-folk have made it obvious that they are preparing for war. An attack on a coastal village from Ireland draws Nathanial's attention and retribution is swift and complete. After some negotiating with the defeated leader, Nathanial and his troops cross the channel and find out that Ireland has been victimized by the Annilators, who only seem repelled by gold. An attack defeats them but the truth is, they may be coming to England. Another race of flying aliens is also discovered, only to find that they are allies who have been defeated by the Annilators on their home planet. On top of all that, Milly is abducted by the Fair Folk and offered as a trade for Nathanial. He handles this in his normal straightforward way and returns home without her, the Fair Folk attempt failing.
The characters are drawn plainly but are surprisingly subtle as you read. The people and their relationships often change and grow. The forever man isn't a Gary stu--tho he'd look like one in a summary. I don't fear for his life, but his heart and his understanding of the world is very human, very complex, and tho I don't always agree with his choices, I respect his reasons for them. His friends and he are a kick to read about--and I can't see how they can survive the combination of Big Bads that they've been setup to fight. So going into the next book, which I'm about to buy and devour, I do worry about all of them--even the marine. Fingers crossed that he really is the forever man.
Though others pop up with disconcerting rapidity. The introduction of several other outside-world beings (as well as some transformed humans) is more confusing that helpful with the narrative. I am starting to sense some underlying misogyny also, as it’s now two women betraying the heroic protagonist. I will read 5 to find out if more pieces of the Forever Man puzzle find their spots.
Mistakes: I found only one mistake in this book. This book ended at 86%. The rest of the book was filler.
Plot: This book was mostly introducing more races.
Characters: Milly isn’t well done by in this book. At the end of book three she was in the care of the old blind lady. This book started out with her hanging out with the Mc and steadily showing herself to be even more damaged than you thought.
King Hogan Solves One Problem, Only to Find Another
Craig Zerf' s fourth book is incredibly fascinating...In a review of an earlier volume, I said it brought to mind classics. In this volume, I am reminded of another, "Animal Farm". Only Zerf's continuous Ayn Rand theorizations mar this incredible volume of the story by undermining the plot. RECOMMENDED
Wow, what a ride The Forever Man goes from one battle to another without giving the reader time to to draw breath. A fast moving epic adventure, do yourself a favour. Lose a few hours of your time and read these books in sequence, your in for a rip roaring ride. Fab
As with the other books in this series thus far, this is some exceptional writing. These authors came together and crafted this story of unfathomable creatures in an post apocalyptic story, which rival only one other story this reader has had the pleasure of reading. On to book five.
I still give book 4 a 5 star rating. It is starting to seem a little drawn out n parts. Seemed to slow down. I am intrigued with the characters though and will continue with interest to read the series.
Each saga just gets better and better! Great story, great writing... Mr. Zerf has my vote for one of the top series authors that I've read - and I've read close to a hundred series! Can't wait to binge-read the next one. Thanks for the ride!
This is a good book. You shouldy read it. I like the story. The characters are fun. The book is a good read. i enjoyed it alot.. Download or buy it today. why not?
