Fixed on You Book One of the Heartwood Falls Series
She inherited a broken house. He’s the only man who can fix it.
After a public breakup shatters her carefully planned future, Emma Sinclair escapes back to Heartwood Falls to rebuild the only thing she has left — her grandmother’s crumbling Victorian.
The house needs new floors. New wiring. New walls.
Emma needs a fresh start.
Cole Hartley is the town’s best contractor — and the grumpiest man she’s ever met. He doesn’t do messy projects. He doesn’t do emotional entanglements. And he definitely doesn’t fall for women who plan on leaving.
But when sparks fly between renovation disasters and late-night kitchen conversations, the line between business and something dangerously personal begins to blur.
Because fixing a house is easy.
Trusting someone with your heart? That’s a risk neither of them is ready to take.
Emma goes back to the small town where her grand mother lived to renovate the house she left her. There, she meets Cole, the contractor who will renovate the house, the only one who accepts the job, since the house is basically falling apart.
You get attached to the main characters from the start. Both of them seem as broken as the house and you wish for them to help rebuild each other.
I love her friend Harper who is the sarcastic voice of reason she turns to.
Side characters appear and we feel like we should know them, but actually don't because parts of their stories were missing. I wish they were more properly introduced and we knew more about their lives and what happened to them. The book gives the impression that we should know them when we actually don't. Also, Harper seemed to be out of town (at the beginning of the book, I was under the impression that they met in college), but then she's not and lives in town. I am not sure i understand how that happened. 🤷♀️ The characters were all still lovable though.
While reading the story, I felt like parts were missing. The characters would talk about events or people and I felt like I missed something and wondered if I skipped through parts of the story which wasn't the case.
It's not a deep angst book but it still gives you hope that when you feel like giving up, you should continue to fight.
My favorite quote in the book: "Because you remind me of something I forgot. That some things are worth fighting for. Even when they seem broken beyond repair".
I am giving this book 3 stars but would've given it more if the characters' stories / timelines were easier to follow. I will definitely read the second book, I am even looking forward to it.
This small town romance started out so cute and I really wanted to like this one as the story overall was sweet but it had so many issues throughout as well.
Emma inherits an old house from her grandma in the small town of Heartwood. This is where she meets her contractor Cole and sparks fly between them. They both have a lot in their pasts that hold them back but together they heal. A whirlwind romance begins with the whole town gets involved and invested in getting them together. Lots of cuteness and banter.
The first part of the book focused on our main couple and apart from some repetitive parts and inconsistencies in the plot the story was doing alright. The story then started focusing on all these other relationships in town and hardly anything to do with the main couple anymore. Other than issues arising between the couple it was less and less cute times and no more spice. I can understand setting up relationships for future stories but this went well beyond that to the extreme. I just felt like it took so much away from the main story.
I struggled getting through this book. I normally can read a book a day and this one took me a week because I almost gave up so many times with it but I don't drop books so I pushed through. Too many plot holes, repetitive conversations, overall things that just did not make sense. This book needed some serious editing and should not have made it to arcs in its condition.
The overall bones of the story are good and could have been made better. I really wanted to like this one so I'm just disappointed with all the issues that took so much away from the story.
A beautiful small town romance. Emma arrives in Heartwood with a broken heart. She has inherited her grandmother’s old house and intends to renovate it. Cole is the builder dropping by intending just to advise on what needs to be done and ending up taking on the renovation. Something draws them together but taking this further than the professional relationship would be wrong. Or would it…?
I found the first half of the book very good. But from there too many side characters are not just introduced, the story also dives quite a bit Ito their individual stories. I’m a small town this is of course all interconnected, but to me it feels messy and this much detail of side characters would do better in separate books.
Fixed on You has potential for more stars if the story was more focuses on the main characters throughout the book. Having said that I will definitely read the next book in the series.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of Fixed On You, though I’m a little late posting my review due to some family medical issues. These characters were absolutely lovable, and I adored watching the couples slowly find — and heal — each other. What starts as resistance and denial quickly turns into undeniable chemistry they just can’t fight. Their connection felt emotional, heartfelt, and so satisfying to watch unfold.
Love the small town feel of this romance. Kinda gives me the Gilmore Girl/Virgin River small town feel. I wish there was a little bit back story of the characters to really grab the attention from the beginning. It was a nice light read.
