With it taking off from the first book i wasn't a fan of vesper but throughout this book he had a 180 spin and changed himself for the better well after the first few week for drinks and nef
But I didnt think she was right for him more like a friend
I can see kyrith and vesper developing something more that friends but not quite there yet
Dez I was about to hate him then I did hate him by the end only for the right reason yes i cried
Em and dez constant banter and flirty talk made this book more enjoyable i was waiting for the slow burn to end
i love how they would trade one truth for another even the one in the letter
Also big fan of dez and bren friend ship how dez dosent treat him any less human even if he's trapped in a wolfs body

I am in awe of these authors who can spin a tale and make you laugh and cry in the same chapter. This book has been such a fantastic read. If I could give it more stars I would. Dez and Emmerys story along with Vesper and Izzy and Briar is one for the ages. It literally stands the test of time and I am here for all of it.
This is such a masterpiece and I am going to be having a book hangover for a day or two. Go and read this series. It’s so good. 3.5 🌶️

First I have to say that this book put me into a mini book slump! Like a week later and I'm still processing my thoughts on it lol. I haven't been able to read anything else since!
OK, this is how you write a second book! Holy moly the author takes you on the ride of your life in this book. Emotionally I was equally elated and devastated. J.E. Storm has a way of teasing you with finally giving you what you want and then brutally taking it away, but leaving you wanting more of her special brand of author cruelty lol.
The way she slow burned the relationship between Dez and Em was some serious edging for a great portion of the book.
And when these characters finally gave in, the fireworks were spectacular!
Lets talk about some of the characters journeys. Emmery is on a mission to not only recover her lost memories and find shade, but she has that added pressure of the prophecy looming over her. We really got to see her growth when it came to overcoming her past trauma and coming to realize that sometimes the path you are sure is right maybe isn't what you thought at all.
Vesper ended book one with me just loathing him. Like really I was like nope, hate that guy, he can't do anything to redeem himself. Annnddd I was proven wrong. He went a full 180° degrees in my opinion and is now firmly on a road to redemption. So bravo to the author for making me sympathize and grow to love a character I had given up on.

First off, I read this as an ARC.
So let’s dig into this book. WHAT DID I READ?!?? My mind is blown from reading this book!!!
This book has left me in ALL OF MY FEELINGS. One minute I am happy, and then, the next, my heart is broken.
I loved the chemistry between Dez and Emmery. I seriously need them to be endgame in the next book or at the end of the series. I loved them together, even though at first I didn’t quite like Dez. He definitely grew on me.
I loved Ves in this book. He really grew from Book 1, and he just needs more time to work on himself. I loved how Ves really was protective in this book.
I loved how Dez and Emmery showed off their protective and caring nature, but not just for each other, but for friends and family.
There were so many twists and turns and unexpected moments I definitely did not see coming. I mean, the ending is wild! And I loved every minute of reading this book.
I literally could not put this book down. I can’t wait for Book 3!

First off I’m so glad that I can say I’ve arc read for books 1 and 2, and I have had the best time. This book gives us even more magic, world building, quests, and character development. This book is easy to get into, and helps fill in some gaps for those who haven’t read The Spark that Ignites in a while. I loved the different perspectives in this book, as much as I dislike Vesper, his chapters were worth reading.
Emmery is even better in this book. I love her resilience and strength after Vespers betrayal, and her drive to find Shade, and to reclaim her memories. It was great to read about her overcoming her fears, and even wanting to get away from her past self. She is brash, fierce, and she is a force to be reckoned with. The best part was her growing her family, and opening herself up to others.
Destonne is my favorite character in this series. I wanted more of him and J.E Storm absolutely delivered. We got to peel away a few of his layers, and I loved seeing his humor and strength even though he is constantly enduring pain and scarred from his past. I loved his tenacity on trying to connect with Emmery, and genuinely wanted to get to know her more. He is the perfect broody hero that will continually have me rooting for.
The slow burn in this book was perfection. It was beautifully done, and when the moment finally came I had to yell out, “Yes!!”. There were so many moments that had so much tension and it did not disappoint. Emmery’s friendship with Brennan was sweet, while it was a begrudging relationship, it grew into some memorable moments that I loved. Emmery and Briars friendship is a thing of beauty, they both were able to grow despite previous hurts.
Definitely this was an epic sequel that will have you screaming for book 3. I loved the banter between Emmery and Destonne, the new characters, and plot development. It’s easy to get into with the perfect pacing. The characters are uniquely crafted, and you can’t help but want to know what they will do next. The ending to this book is unreal…it was nice that all of this was dropped on us readers, but I wouldn’t wish anything else. So any of you readers who love epic romantasy, look no further. Thank you for letting me arc read, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!

I demolished 800ish pages in two days because putting this book down was not an option
Book 1 taught me one very important lesson..
Trust👏 Nothing👏 Including yourself👏LOL
Every random sentence, every riddle every weird comment, every tiny breadcrumb had me "WAIT... is this foreshadowing?!"
The theories?! Don't even get me startedd about the theories you guysss!! I'd finally figure out a plot twist (well I was always pretty sure) BUT THEN someone would breathe the wrong fkn way and my entire theory was in the trash🙄😍🤣 Rinse and repeat for 800 pages. JK more like 796😉😏

This was better than the first book! I liked the first book a lot, but I loved this book. What threw me the most was the size! It’s just over 800 pages, and this is where Kindle reading gets me in trouble. Now, for the most part, this book does a great job with all the extra pages. There are times that it slowed down a little, and that will happen. I think for me it mostly happened with Vesper’s chapters. I was not a fan of him, and it took me a lot to swing the other way. I give all those props to Kyrith (and Storm) because she was the best! She put Vesper in his place, and it brought immense joy.
The bulk of this book was about Emmery and Dez, which is why I loved it so much. Emmery is on a journey to reclaim her memories and find Shade, while a huge prophecy rests on her shoulders. Then we have Dez, who throws another wrench into her plans. Of course, he’s the villain, right? Oh, Dez. He’s definitely a morally grey character and a tortured soul. He’s ruthless, and that’s all that Emmery knows. Then we start to see them go through the trials together and see another side of them. I loved learning more about him as Emmery is. Their tension was off the charts! I was so into their journey that the pages flew by for me. I was deeply invested throughout the whole book.
The world-building and magic were expanded on, which was great. There are times that this world is very brutal. Just keep that in mind going in; it can be very intense, and there is no holding back. Storm is an author that is not scared to hurt you emotionally. We have some new characters, which I loved getting to know and can’t wait to see more of in the third book!
Overall, this was a fantastic follow-up to book one. I liked it even more than the first! I loved Dez so much, and he’s probably my favorite character. I do think if you enjoy Romantasy/Fantasy, then you will really enjoy this series!

This series continues to pull me in, and I had such a great time with this one. The world keeps expanding, the stakes are getting higher, and every new revelation had me desperate to keep turning the pages.
But can we PLEASE talk about the yearning?? It was absolutely top tier. I swear every few chapters I was yelling at my Kindle, “JUST KISS ALREADY!” Watching Destonne and Emmery constantly deny themselves and dance around their feelings was equal parts agonizing and addicting. They had so much tension that every interaction felt like it could finally be the moment… and then it wasn’t. Frustrating? Absolutely. Did I eat it up anyway? Also absolutely.
I’ll admit, every time a Vesper chapter came up in the beginning, I wanted to skip it out of pure principle because… WTF, Vesper?! 😂 But the more his story unfolded, the more invested I became. His chapters ended up adding so much depth to the overall story, and watching him wrestle with his magic, his losses, and everything he’s carrying made me surprisingly emotional.
And THAT ENDING. It was absolutely DIABOLICAL. J.E. Storm… how could you leave us like that?! I genuinely just stared at my Kindle in disbelief after finishing the last page.
If you love romantasy with morally gray characters, prophecies, soulmate mysteries, delicious slow-burn tension, and enough yearning to make you want to throw your Kindle across the room (affectionately), you’ll definitely want to pick this one up. Now excuse me while I impatiently wait for the next book because I need answers.

The Ember That Tethers takes everything I enjoyed about book one and turns the dial all the way up. The world feels bigger, the stakes are higher, and the lines between hero and villain become beautifully blurred. I loved watching the relationships evolve, especially the slow unraveling of truths that had me constantly questioning who could actually be trusted. Every answer seemed to open the door to three more questions, and even though I had plenty of theories while reading, most of them ended up being completely wrong, which made every reveal that much more satisfying. J.E. Storm does a fantastic job building tension while weaving together prophecy, betrayal, dangerous alliances, and emotional conflict. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, another reveal completely changed the game. And that ending? Let’s just say the author’s street team immediately descended into full conspiracy-theory mode. We were connecting dots, questioning everything we’d read, and trying to predict what comes next. That’s exactly the kind of ending I love, one that refuses to leave your brain after you finish the final page. If you enjoy morally gray characters, slow-burn fantasy romance, layered mysteries, and stories that keep you guessing until the very end, this sequel absolutely delivers. Now I’m counting the days until book three. I received an advanced reader copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I had an infinitely better time with this one than the first book. The world expanded in all the right ways, the stakes felt so much higher, and the YEARNING?? Next. Level. The slow burn was absolutely torturous in the best way.
Dez… yeah. Dez is daddy. 🫠
I spent most of this book absolutely hating Vesper, but somehow J.E. Storm had me questioning everything by the end. His redemption arc had no business pulling at my heartstrings the way it did… but damn it, it worked.
And that ending?!
Briar? Cal? Izzy? DEZ? EMMERY?! DEIMOS?!
WTF. WTF. WTF.
I genuinely stared at my Kindle wondering how there weren’t more pages. Now I’m left desperately waiting for book three because there is NO way you can end a book like that and expect me to be okay.
If you love slow-burn fantasy romance, morally gray characters, tension that physically hurts, and endings that leave you screaming into the void, you’ll probably have a great time with this one too. Now excuse me while I impatiently wait for book three.

… What just happened? Ok, I want to say I did correctly assume who Shade was. Was I expecting that backstory? No! Was I expecting everything to just blow up at the end? Most definitely not!
Just like the previous book in this series, I loved it. The world-building, the characters, the relationships and the emotion are just great. It took the first book and just heightened it and gave use two intertwining story lines. And a cliffhanger, obviously! Do I have any clue where the next book will take us? Absolutely not, but I cannot wait to find out!

Just like the previous book in this series, I loved it. The world-building, the characters, the relationships and the emotion are just great. It took the first book and just heightened it and gave use two intertwining story lines. And a cliffhanger, obviously! Do I have any clue where the next book will take us? Absolutely not, but I cannot wait to find out!

I loved the development of both Vesper and Emmery throughout book two, with the addition of Destonne to the mix we really got to see everyone's true colors. I had so much fun getting reacquainted with old friends as well as getting to know new characters and the last 100 pages were an emotional rollercoaster that left me staring at the wall. This was a great follow-up to The Spark That Ignites and I can't wait to continue the Shattered Soul Series.

Absolutely! One of my favorites this year and I definitely need a copy for my bookshelf as a trophy because it would be something I would reread and I fell in love with the characters. The writing I loved how it just takes you on a roller coaster ride. I love it! I love everything about this

I took a couple of days before writing this review, because I just had to sit with it for a second! First off, thank you to J.E. Storm for allowing me to be an ARC reader for this series and for writing something that made me giggle, kick my feet and swoon, then proceed to rip my heart out within moments. This book, honestly, I’m at a loss for words. The characters, the world, the love and the heartache just absolutely work. And those twists! Just *chefs kiss*. I don’t want to spoil this for anyone, so I’ll just say, if you love adventure, a world that will take over your brain chemistry, emotional damage and some healing of hearts, this series is for you! Take the dive into this epic story, you won’t be disappointed!

What the actual…?! Jenn is a master evil genius! My brain has not fully processed what just happened. This was the perfect 2nd book in the series, the momentum never slowed and the slow burn; well it burnt and burnt and burnt until it finally combusted. If you love unique magic systems, prophecies for days, gods and goddesses who are mostly all arseholes and a romance that will rip out your heart and spit on it then this series is for you. This blew my mind, I’m dumbfounded and I need to know where the hell this is going! Jenn I impatiently waited for this book, but I’m going to need book 3 like now!!!

I will begin by saying that I wasn’t a big fan of The Spark that Ignites. I wasn’t crazy about the characters, I truly even disliked Vesper, but I connected with them in The Ember That Tethers. It took me a while to get into the plot of the book, but I was loving it around the time I was 40% in. Keep in mind the book is almost 800 pages.
Dez was everything in this book, he had the most memorable quotes and I loved the way he was written. I am still not crazy about Vesper, but I don’t dislike him anymore. The ending of the book left me confused with a wtf feeling. I am not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn’t that.

The difference is that this time we get a much deeper look at just how broken Emmory, Vesper, and Destonne truly are. We see their wounds, their regrets, their trauma, and the burdens they've been carrying for far too long.
And it was gloriously painful.
Vesper's struggle to figure out who he is and what comes next for him was one of my favorite parts of the book. The tension between Emmory and Destonne continues to simmer and twist in ways that kept me completely invested. Their relationships feel messy and real, shaped by everything they've endured.
We also meet a few new side characters while spending more time with some familiar faces. None of them feel unnecessary. Each serves a purpose, helping to move the story forward without ever stealing focus from the central cast.
Plot-wise, we're still following the same overarching goal established in book one: unraveling the prophecy and trying to save the world from the Fever. Sounds simple enough, right?

Their slow-burn relationship is executed perfectly, never feeling rushed or forced. Instead, it develops naturally through shared experiences, difficult choices, and emotional vulnerability.
Their journey together became one of my favourite parts of the book. It’s filled with discoveries that reshape everything you thought you understood about the story, emotional moments that completely caught me off guard, and one bonding scene that I genuinely don’t think I’ll ever forget. The relationship between Emmery and the King was easily my favorite part of the novel. Their dynamic is built on mistrust, manipulation, and undeniable chemistry, creating a slow burn that had me hanging on every interaction. I have never been so exquisitely obliterated by a book in all my life! This book left me speechless, so many twists and turns I was dizzy, I didn't know which way was up, who to trust and when I finally thought I had everything figured out the rug was pulled from beneath my feet!
I typically make notes as I read, 1 or 2 pages of vibes, quotes, theories, etc...... this was 8 pages (double sided) of unhinged notes!!! I was not a well woman 😂
Emmery, Vesper and Destonne are all dealing with the emotional fallout and consequences from choices that they made in book 1. The character growth in this book was phenomenal and I didn't think I could love these characters anymore than I already did, but here we are!
Witnessing the characters experiencing reflection, redemption, weakness becoming strength, revelations, betrayals and complex emotions in an extremely real and sometimes very raw way is one of the reasons as to why this book for me is a masterpiece!
The dual POV was a blessing and a curse! I loved being able to follow everything that was occurring in different places but the swap when something intense happened was diabolical! 🤣 I may or may not have screamed a few times at these mini cliffhangers!
The introduction of new characters, provides extra insights to the story and not only opens up the opportunity for further world building but also answers to questions. Did those answers lead to more questions? Yes, yes they did!
I found myself instantly invested in the newbies, rooting for them and really hoping they survived to the end of the book!
The chemistry and the banter had me giddy, the burning and the yearning was delicious, the plot twists and betrayals were perfection!
I thought I'd felt all of the emotions after reading book 1 but I was very wrong. The end of this book left me staring at the wall for the best part of an hour. The Shattered Soul Series definitely lives up to it's name!

✨The Ember That Tethers✨
I am so glad I began this series. I am equally glad I read books 1&2 back to back because JE hooks you with these characters. What feels like an epic treasure hunt/mission to save the world doubles down into an intricate, visceral, emotionally devastating, and intensely gravitating dark romantic fantasy as well. JE really made characters that are so realistic they feel alive and I have grown to know them and love them deeply- more than I ever anticipated after finishing book two.
TETT begins right where we left off after book one’s suspenseful ending. We follow a dual POV from Emmery and Vesper. After the revelations from book one, their friendship is now at jeopardy as they both take their separate journeys to not only fulfill their side of the prophecy but recover who they truly are at the roots. These POVs are each so unique and painful and heart achingly beautiful.
Vesper must acknowledge his vices and by seeking out a way to recover his sister, he finds more than he EVER bargained for. A plot unfolding that is as horrific as it is devious. Meanwhile, Emmery must follow through on her bargain to recover her memories while assisting the evil king. But what she uncovers is far from evil and more… familiar. The tension, compassion, support, and empathy that is slowly built between Em and Dez is more profound that I can truly say. JE did an absolute WONDER with this relationship, how it felt so organic, heartfelt, terrifying, and true.
JE then WRECKS us with MORE revelations at the ending all in ways that make your heart cry out and your body fight to recover. I don’t want to leave these characters yet and waiting for book three is going to be so difficult. This series is surely a top fave of my this year.

I am so glad I began this series. I am equally glad I read books 1&2 back to back because JE hooks you with these characters. What feels like an epic treasure hunt/mission to save the world doubles down into an intricate, visceral, emotionally devastating, and intensely gravitating dark romantic fantasy as well. JE really made characters that are so realistic they feel alive and I have grown to know them and love them deeply- more than I ever anticipated after finishing book two.
TETT begins right where we left off after book one’s suspenseful ending. We follow a dual POV from Emmery and Vesper. After the revelations from book one, their friendship is now at jeopardy as they both take their separate journeys to not only fulfill their side of the prophecy but recover who they truly are at the roots. These POVs are each so unique and painful and heart achingly beautiful.
Vesper must acknowledge his vices and by seeking out a way to recover his sister, he finds more than he EVER bargained for. A plot unfolding that is as horrific as it is devious. Meanwhile, Emmery must follow through on her bargain to recover her memories while assisting the evil king. But what she uncovers is far from evil and more… familiar. The tension, compassion, support, and empathy that is slowly built between Em and Dez is more profound that I can truly say. JE did an absolute WONDER with this relationship, how it felt so organic, heartfelt, terrifying, and true.
JE then WRECKS us with MORE revelations at the ending all in ways that make your heart cry out and your body fight to recover. I don’t want to leave these characters yet and waiting for book three is going to be so difficult. This series is surely a top fave of my this year.

I just adore this book.
First off, one of my favorite things about The Ember that Tethers was the mystery surrounding Destonne. To some characters, he seems like a cruel, manipulative king. To others, he is kind, patient, and surprisingly caring. I spent most of the book trying to decide which version of Destonne was the real one. Every time I thought I had him figured out, the story gave me another reason to question it.
Then there was Vesper. After everything that happened in the first book, Vesper absolutely deserved the hate he received. Even so, I always liked his character, and watching try to redeem himself over the course of this book was incredibly satisfying. By the end, he had definitely become one of my favorite characters in the series.
The romance was paced perfectly. The slow burn between Emmery and Dez felt natural and believable, allowing their relationship to develop at exactly the right speed. The chemistry between them was fantastic, and when things finally heated up, they definitely heated up!
The pacing was excellent. The first half steadily builds the relationships, the mystery, and the world before everything ramps up toward an ending that had me turning pages as fast as I could.
There was one major reveal about Dez and another person that completely landed for me. I won't say anything more because it'd be a massive spoiler, but it completely changed the way I looked at everything that came before. It was one of my favorite moments in the book.
And then there was the ending. Damn.
I honestly was not prepared for those final chapters. I actually had to put the book down and walk away for a while because it was just too much to process. That almost never happens to me, but this ending absolutely blew me away.
I came for the fantasy, stayed for the mystery, and found myself completely invested in the romance along the way and J.E. Storm does such a fantastic job balancing all three.
If you enjoy slow-burn romance, compelling fantasy, memorable characters, and mysteries that keep you questioning what you think you know, I highly recommend this series.

The Ember That Tethers is a fantastic sequel to The Spark that Ignites.
The political and theological threads are woven so subtly that you don’t fully see their shape until the end, when everything snaps together and adds a complexity I hadn’t even considered. It’s the kind of twist that makes you want to reread book 1 then this again to see how many signs you'd missed.
Emmery’s fear of being used, her uncertainty about her own identity, and her instinct to rely only on herself made her incredibly relatable, just as she was in book 1. Watching her grow was one of my favourite parts. Her confidence builds through connection, especially with Dez, whose quiet vulnerability and willingness to show her pieces of himself made their dynamic feel intimate and real. He sees her darkness and stays. That acceptance gives their relationship a “coming home” feeling that stayed with me long after I finished.
The Shade mystery kept me theorizing constantly. In one chapter I was sure it was a specific person, then I changed my mind. Still, I was partially wrong and in such a way it's hard to explain. That's the beauty of Jen's writing and needing book 3 to complete it all.
Vesper’s actions in book 1 meant that I wasn't a fan of his (IYKYK) but his part was vital for the bigger picture. The writing was fantastic, it's just Vesper I didn't like! His attempts at redemption felt like watching someone rebuild a bridge they burned themselves, but part of me still wanted him to get to a place where I'd like him once more.
The world expands beautifully in TETT. The stakes are bigger. There is more danger and new characters. That being said, I didn't feel like there was less emotion. On the contrary. Emmery's loyalty, her heart, and the internal war between which to follow, and the consequences of choosing either...
So to sum it up, it was a complex, emotional, and beautifully crafted sequel. I am very much looking forward to book 3, due next year!

The Ember That Tethers picks up right where The Spark That Ignites left off. If it’s been a while since you’ve read the first book, I’d definitely recommend a reread. This is a thick book with plenty of references from the previous one.
Like the Spark That Ignites, this book is rich in world-building and character development. I did find the first 65% of the book to be quite slow because of all of this. At times, it also felt like too many fantasy tropes were being introduced, and not all of them added enrichment to the story. There were also a few moments that seemed to happen very quickly without enough context or follow-up, leaving me wanting more explanation.
The story is told through multiple POVs
One of my favourite parts of the book was watching Dez and Emmery’s relationship evolve. Their romance is the definition of a slow burn—you really have to be patient and let it unfold, but when the spice ignites be prepared for the heat 🔥
I also loved seeing Emmery’s growth throughout the story. Her resilience, determination, and stubborn nature made it was satisfying to see her come into her own.
As for Vesper, I was fairly indifferent toward him at the beginning. After everything that happened in the previous book, I found it difficult to sympathize with his self-loathing. By the end, though, he finally started to redeem himself, even though I still think he’s an ass for what he did in the last book.
J.E. Storm leans more into the romance in this book while still giving her readers the action and adventure. And, in true fashion, she ends the book on a massive cliffhanger. The ending genuinely shocked me—I didn’t see it coming at all.
I’m very much looking forward to reading the next instalment in the Shattered Soul series

If you want a book that will make you laugh, cry, shout at characters, face palm, blush, rage, smile like an idiot and so much more...... then this book is for you.
This book sent me on a massive adventure. It was so immersive that it left me reeling and questioning every time i put it down to do my mundane back to reality tasks. It just stays with you and has you constantly questioning. It is so pact full of everything you could possibly need to escape reality into an adventure full of quests and the search for love and sacrifice.
It is slower in the first half but in such a way that it builds tension in each chapter, bringing you closer and closer to the storm. And what a storm the second half is. Th first half gives you plenty of context, builds relationships and new characters, and also grows the world past Ellynne. It answers many questions from the first book but will leave you with so many more. The second half is jam-packed with action, trials, and steam, and will leave you needing your own emotional support, Aera or Stiggy.
You will absolutely hate and love the author for creating such a brilliantly emotional and action-packed book. You will be constantly asking her wtf... she will lead you into distruction, and you'll happily walk behind her, waiting for more.
When we return from the spark that ignites, we follow emmery and vesper as they deal with the consequences of the choices that they made while aslo dealing with a prophecy they didn't want to be a part of. Destonne is such a misunderstood character that will have you questioning so much.

Author J. E. Storm has out did herself with this sequel. A sprawling, epic, fantasy setting that doubled down on world building and character development, and after the gut punch of a cliffhanger in the first book, managed to find an even taller peak to throw the dear readers off of this time. The back story of Destonne is glimpsed in memories and stories, shedding light on what caused him to become the souless monster he appears to be, and questioning whether there is a gentler man behind the crown of thorns. Vesper is trying to find his way out of the despair he is sunk into, for someone who was always looked at like a failure the road to redemption is long indeed. Somehow he must fight his way back from all the lies told, lines crossed, betrayals dealt to save his kingdom and regain the trust of Emmery. They say it is darkest before the dawn, but sometimes it is just dark, a pitch black labyrinth filled with twisted games of pain and mind games, a kingdom filled with a deadly plague and dying people, the unseen will of the Council moving people for their plots like pawns on a chessboard. Through it all Emmery and Dez, sworn enemies, are circling ever closer, drawn to each other like two flames with one spark of fire. What is this desire for the man holding her captive, when every step of their quest seems to be drawing them together? Readers will be white knuckling to the finish with this book, as the action never lets up , and every layer of lies peeled back shows more heart stopping truths that nobody is prepared for. Buckle up tight because the cliffhanger in this book will leave the fate of everything hanging, the characters lives, the Prophecy, and the very future of the world is left undecided as the final plot twists will leave you breathless with anticipation

If a book can make me ugly cry, it's basically an automatic five stars. And when I say ugly cry... I don't mean a single graceful tear rolling down my cheek. I mean Jabba the Hutt with a horrible head cold ugly.

The world, the magic, and the lore continue to expand, and every page made me fall even more in love with this series.
Emmery is exactly the kind of FMC I adore. She's flawed, she's learning as she goes, she makes mistakes, and she isn't suddenly an unstoppable warrior overnight. Watching her grow feels real, and it made me root for her even harder. Because she is all of us!
And Destonne...sigh. Fine. I admit it. Morally grey, smug, cocky men with enough layers to rival an onion are my weakness.
The banter? Immaculate. The yearning? Excruciating. The slow burn? So slow it should be illegal, yet somehow every interaction had me tittering with glee.
The entire cast is phenomenal, and every relationship feels meaningful. Every victory made me cheer, every heartbreak landed exactly where it was supposed to, and I was completely invested from beginning to end.
Can we please talk about this author's incredible writing? The foreshadowing. The parallels. The beautiful descriptions. Every sentence feels intentional, and it's impossible not to get completely lost in this world.

The Ember That Tethers is a brilliant exhibition of "author cruelty"—just when you think you are finally getting what you want, she brilliantly snatches it away, leaving you desperate for more. The way she utilizes slow-burn tension is nothing short of agonizing.
Emmery’s journey in this installment is particularly compelling. Watching her navigate the weight of prophecy while confronting her own past trauma and uncovering lost memories made for incredible character growth. It was satisfying to see her realize that the path she initially thought was right was perhaps not the one she was truly meant to follow.
What surprised me most, however, was the evolution of Vesper. Having detested him throughout the first book and believing he was irredeemable, I was proven completely wrong; witnessing his progression toward redemption completely reshaped my perspective, allowing me to find empathy for a character I had once discarded. He adds so much depth to the narrative.
Then there is Dez, who is perhaps one of the most complicated men I have listened to in a long time. He is a tortured, morally grey soul, and his destructive, world-consuming nature is entirely captivating.
The plot is packed with twists and turns that I never saw coming, and the stakes feel higher with every chapter.

Buckle up for a book that takes you on a roller coaster ride not only emotional but a mindblowing plot that had my jaw on the floor. I was really loving this book from the very beginning with the banter between the characters and just the plot I saw developing before my eyes. I could not get enough of it and that out of no where this shocking end hits me. I need the next book pronto!! Just wow this book is a master piece.
I absolutely love how she used the dual POV to add so much tension with when it switched. I will say I enjoyed the Emmery parts better but Vesper grew on me. This book is definitely lengthy and does have a point or two where it slows down a bit more then I thought was needed but overall the plot keeps moving at a solid pace throughout book.
If you loved Throne of Glass series, this book/series reminds me of it with how the book connects so many details together for an incredible ending. Plus how the world building is slowly unraveled and has so much depth to it. The actual plot and story is unique but the writing style reminds me of Sarah J Maas! J.E. Storm poured her heart and soul into this book, it shines so brightly through this book.
