“Sometimes the hardest part of sacrifice is choosing to live.”

These are the last days of the Eldaran race. Rowen and Caleb must find their way along the dark path set before them by their ancestors: to heal what was wounded and love where hatred grows. But the road is narrow and the darkness beckons. If either of them fails, all will be lost... And the human race will be no more.

This was a fantastic ending to this debut series! You will definitely get all the feels in the end- you may even shed a tear 🥹 . This story was beautiful and I loved the faith elements and the overall message-
“In the darkness there is light!” Highly recommend.

I have been eagerly anticipating the conclusion of The Follower of the Word trilogy since I finished the second installment, Son of Truth, the day after its release. So when the author offered an advanced copy to readers in exchange for a review, I jumped at the chance.

I decided to begin by re-reading the first two books of the series to remind myself of places and characters. This also gave me a chance to marvel at the evolution of Morgan L. Busse's writing. Daughter of Light was great with solid writing and a thrilling storyline. Son of Truth was a half step better, making it an excellent read. But her skill made a giant leap in the OUTSTANDING Heir of Hope. It was fast paced and fluid and I was never bored.

I don't want to spoil Heir of Hope by giving away the highlights. If you have already read the first two books of the series, you know what to expect. I will just say a few things. First, this book begins at the same place Son of Truth left off. The last chapter of Son of Truth was told from the perspective of Lore. The first chapter of Heir of Hope was the same scene but shared from the perspective of Caleb. I absolutely loved reading the moment of recognition from each mans point of view. As in the other books, the characters are excellent. The author did a phenomenal job of portraying the human spirit, particularly in this third book where even the Eldarans are faced with difficult temptations. Every person is capable of following the light or succumbing to the darkness and the greed inside. Even our heroes. Busse's skill in portraying the torment, the desire to be good while fighting the temptations, is painfully real.

I am the type of person who loves a good love story. This book does not disappoint. While romance is definitely secondary in this novel (and series), what is included doesn't distract from the primary plot but adds so much to the story. And I hate to even cheapen it by calling it romance because it really is the weaving of love stories with nothing immodest or provocative but woven with threads of passion and restraint. There is plenty action in this book with some pretty grim scenes, but nothing overly graphic.

By this books conclusion, you will understand the Shadonae and learn the history of Rowen and Caleb (though I wish we would have learned more of his mother). You will be so satisfied that you will feel disappointed that your time in this world has come to an end. Until the next time you pull it off the shelf and read it again... because a series like this is one you can enjoy over and over. This book and its predecessors are perfect for adults, young and old.

A very condensed recap of the first two books (contains *SPOILERS* if you haven't read them!): The Shadonae have taken over Thyra. The Thyrian scribe, Nierne, has gone in search of the Eldarans, an ancient race with the power of the Word emanating from a white mark in their hands. She has found two of the race believed to have been extinct, Rowen, a truthsayer who is being taken to Thyra to the Shadonae, and Caleb, a guardian who was formerly an assassin before being touched by the Word through Rowen. Lore, while in search of Rowen, has just stumbled accross Nierne and Caleb as the flee from Temanin toward Thyra.

Words cannot express how much I adored this book and how fulfilling the ending was. I felt like I truly knew the characters and grew so attached to all of them. The slow burn relationship between Nierne and Caleb keeps you glued to the pages and is so worth the wait. Their relationship just leaves your heart so joyful when they finally get together. Everything about the book was immaculate and perfectly executed. 13+ and totally recommend.

Absolutely incredible. I have only ever cried over a few books, and it's been 8 years since that happened. This book broke the streak. This series is amazing, and if you haven't read it, you need to add it to your 2024 TBR.

Ughhh this book!!! It gives me all the feels, good and bad! 😭😍 Even though this was my third time reading Heir of Hope, it’s been many several years since I last read it and I literally couldn’t put it down. It was so good, gripping, and emotional!! Everything about this book was perfection, from the characters and how they grew, to the plot progression and the things that happened, to the beautiful message of faith, hope, and love.

The characters are EVERYTHING!!! Rowen, Lore, CALEB 😍, Neirne, all of them!! They each must face their own set of trials and hardships and must decide for themselves if they trust the in Word during these times. I adore Caleb so so much!! My boy grows so much and I love him! 😍😍😍

The romance in this book is just *chef’s kiss* 😍😍😍 Completely clean and oh so wonderful. My heart ached for Rowen and Lore and the physical separation between, how they tried so hard to get back to each other but life kept pulling them apart. And then that thing near the end! 😭😭 But they got the perfect ending and left me feeling all the good satisfied feelings inside. And Caleb and Neirne are just the perfect enemies-to-lovers couple and I ship them so hard!!

So much happens in this book, so many hard, dark, gritty things. It’s emotional and sad, yet beautiful and hopeful. Morgan wrote the perfect ending to a wonderful series, and I’ll forever sing its praises!!

Since the beginning of the series the theme has been “In the darkness there is light.” While this was a highly entertaining book, I think the writer, Morgan L. Busse, really brought this theme to completion in Heir of Hope. The series is character driven; the characters really are the plot (but yes, there are high stakes and epic battles).

In the previous books it was the story of Rowen discovering what she was, then making a choice of who she would become. For Caleb it was a story of his transformation and redemption. In the beginning of the series Rowen lost everything she held dear and just when she thought she had a new life, a new path, it came crashing down again. She had to make a choice whether to preserve the life she was making for herself or save someone she cared about. She was willing to sacrifice herself to protect those who needed it. It gave her purpose. But even a good purpose can be perverted into something terrible. When Rowen is kidnapped and her powers exploited for money she discovers how cruel people can really be. By the time we see her in the third book, scarred and broken, she’s at a crossroad of choices. She set out to do the right thing, but the things that happened to her in the past have really gotten to her. At times she doesn't want to help anyone, at times she even wants revenge. Temptation is strong and doing the right thing comes with a heavy price.

What I loved about this book is that it didn't back away from temptation and doing the right thing was never easy. None of the characters were perfect. There wasn't just the threat that something really bad might happen, it did happen.

Caleb started in book one as an assassin, cold and uncaring. Though the story he discovers what he is and is set on a path of becoming the man he was created to be. There was a lot of romance between the characters Caleb and Nierne. Admittedly in the first couple of books, I was far more interested in Rowen’s story, but I feel like these characters were fully fleshed out in Heir of Hope. The reader gets a peek inside their heads. We get to know that there is more to Nierne than just being a stubborn, bookish scribe. Caleb still struggles with his old nature (maybe a little less so than in Son of Truth). The issue of redemption and change is highlighted in his story, but it never came off as preachy. Morgan wrote this series in a way that the changes, the struggles and the outcome were organic and sincere from the characters. On that note, the villains, Malchus and Valin made my skin crawl, they were a good mix between captivating and disturbing.

This book was really dark at times. I think that is part of why I liked the story. It didn't shy away to make it “safe”.
My only qualms with the book were that I really wanted to see Lore and Rowen together more and sometimes it felt like too much of the focus was on Caleb. Before reading this series I really had no interest in fantasy novels. I've always leaned towards Sci-Fi, but this is definitely one of my favorite series.

The final book in the Follower of the Word series did not disappoint. Morgan created some deep main characters that had many obstacles to overcome throughout the trilogy, and it doesn't get any better for them in Heir of Hope. Rowen Mar has been captured and taken to the Shadonae, her mortal enemies. Caleb Tala, the assassin with a change of heart, is forced to work with Captain Lore to escape the Great Desert. Since Caleb had killed Lore's former charge, it isn't an easy alliance. And they have the scribe Nierne, who hasn't had much experience outside of the monastery.

This fantasy is character-driven, and each of the main characters have a lot to lose. Their internal and external battles are intriguing and keep the reader invested. As they head toward a final confrontation with the enemies taking over the land, there are steep consequences for all involved.

I really enjoyed the whole series, and Heir of Hope does not disappoint. It could have been trimmed down a little and still maintain the tension and depth, but the flow doesn't lose out. There's wonderful themes about love, forgiveness, and sacrifice in the novel that make it and the series a great addition to any fantasy fan's library.

Heir of Hope fulfills all our hopes for this book and even more. It is a story of love, courage, forgiveness, and human frailty. It takes christian fantasy to a whole new level. My friends began reading the series when they heard that it put a tear in my eye. Which never happens. They were not disappointed and were quickly hooked. The characters are believable. In the end we have a group of characters working together for the greater good despite their vast differences, past, and preconceived ideas. You find yourself rooting for redemption. It does not disappoint delivering biblical truths in a fun intriguing fashion. This book is for the young, the old, and everyone in between who enjoys reading books for pleasure not trying to critique every sentence. I encourage you to get all three books at once. It is hard nearly impossible to pace yourself or to put it down. So, pour yourself a big glass of tea, get comfy on the couch, and become engrossed in whole new delightful adventure.

The crowning finale to an epic series! Heir of Hope, brings back all the wonderful elements found in Book 1 and 2; well written, captivating, compelling characters, and doses of truth and faith woven in so organically that it is seamless. This novel starts off, right where Book 2 ended, and once you open up the pages you are swept into the story. I was on the edge of my seat through most of the novel and anxious to see what was ahead for these characters.

And while this is a novel about good vs evil, it is also a novel about so much more. This is a novel that takes us on the journey where we look at who we are, but also, how we have been made new in Christ. A journey of discovering what that looks like and what it means to be this new creation. Also, a journey where we look at the internal battles we face, combating unbelief, fear, pride and forgiving. This is lastly, a journey of awakening to trust, hope, faith and love.

Excellent! I highly recommend this series.

Wow.
I cried; I laughed; I held my breath; I glared when I was interrupted; and I moped when it was over.
This was an epic and lovely ending to a wonderful series. Morgan L. Busse created a masterpiece for the conclusion of this trilogy. It has been several days since I have finished the book and I still feel the reverberating effects of the finale. I won't spoil anything by giving away the highlights of this tale but know that Morgan L. Busse does not disappoint. This book deeply touched me in a way that I'll not soon forget. Heir of Hope will always hold a special place in my heart.

I look forward to Morgan's next series with great anticipation.

Bravo and encore!

I laughed. I cried. I smiled throughout the day thinking about the characters portrayed throughout this series. I couldn't put it down. Seriously, I could not put it down. The ending left me feeling a bit sad, however. A fourth book extending and expounding upon the quick end would have mirrored the intricate detail leading up to it. Alas, I thoroughly enjoyed the spiritual leads and powerful testimony displayed throughout each book. It is a must read for all genres.

Wow. I can hardly put into words the feeling this book left me with, but I will try.

The first two books in this series are really good! The writing got better and better every chapter pulling me farther into the story. Then I picked this book up. The writing was good before, but now I was starting to really feel the story instead of just following along with it. The characters had so much depth and I love how each struggles with their own internal battles. I especially appreciate how Caleb was written. There are a lot of books that I have read where a character has a massive heart change such as Caleb has in the second book, but then they are just magically good characters and do everything right. But Caleb really felt real to me. He didn't just decide to be good and suddenly he had no more problems. No, he had a lot of tempting thoughts and sometimes even struggled to not go back to his old ways, making him truly seem like a real person.

I read some other reviews that were saying that the middle of the book dragged on, and that they were just waiting for the characters to reunite in the end. But, I did not feel this way at all. The middle parts were very interesting to me and the amount of time that Lore, Caleb, and Nierne spent traveling really gave me a sense of how long it had been since Lore and Rowen had seen each other, and how much it was tearing them apart inside. This intern made me read all the faster so that I could see the characters come together once more.

There have many books that have made me sad, some that made my eyes wet, a few that have drawn a tear or two, but only one or two books I have ever read have left me freely crying. This was one of those books. It tore my heart apart, then shattered the two sides into a thousand pieces so all I could do was cry. But unlike the other one or two books that I have freely cried for, this book took those pieces, and put them back together until my heart was whole again and crying tears of joy. I sincerely do not know why this book touched me so much, but I wish I could read again for the first time.

I will definitely reread this whole series many times, and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

The first fantasy book I have ever read was "Daughter of Light", the first in the "Follower of the Word" series. I really didn't know what to expect. Would I be able to keep track of the strange names? Would I be able to understand the culture? But in Morgan's books, everything is easily understood. You just need to let your mind be ok with a lot of things that are out of the norm for us. When "Son of Truth" came out, I reread "Daughter of Light". Likewise, when "Heir of Hope" came out, I reread "Son of Truth". Doing so helped me understand and remember the flow of the story. If you haven't read all three, I strongly encourage you to buy all three and read them in order.

I wasn't sure where the story could be headed from the ending of "Son of Truth". But what a roller coaster ride we are taken on with the "Heir of Hope" book. The interaction and challenges of Rowen, Lore, Caleb, and Nierne are unending. Just when you think all is well, something else happens. This book reminded me of a beautiful quilt. (I am a quilter.) If a quilt is too busy either in the block patterns or in the material, it will actually hurt to look at it. In this book, the action is "edge of the seat" action, but it does have calmer moments where the reader can catch their breath and relax before the next crisis hits (and it does). I appreciate that there are love interests without the steamy scenes. The language is also clean. I had to smile when a character would swear by saying, "Crackers" or "Snap." I can also see that Morgan has really developed as a writer from her first book to this most recent one. I also appreciated that Morgan didn't "fix" everything in the end. There is a happy ending, but there are consequences for actions that can't always be made perfect again. The bad thing about finishing a trilogy is that you will no longer read about the characters. I will miss them all, but I know in they are happy in their fiction world.

For me, it's hard to believe that this is her first trilogy. Morgan has broken me out of reading Christian Suspense only. I may even be tempted to try other Christian Fantasy writers.

What a very beautiful and satisfying ending to this series!

I was once again amazed by Rowen’s faith in the Word. She has never strayed from Him and in HEIR OF HOPE her faith was definitely tested. Her faith was so inspiring because even in the mist of evil and wanting to save herself, she didn’t leave the path that the Word asked of her. What Rowen did for the people of Thyra was absolutely beautiful. That kind of selfless love created tears running down my face.

It was also amazing to see how much Caleb grew in this one! He is totally a different man compared to when I first was introduced to him! I loved how he strived with all his heart to serve the Word in a way that was honorable.

Besides being moved about Rowen staying strong in her faith and willing to give her life selflessly, I was very strongly moved by Lore’s forgiveness towards Caleb. The way he forgave was so eye-opening to me and brought comfort in that I do not have to live with open wounds in a relationship with someone, but can heal.

I definitely recommend this series to readers of fantasy. HEIR OF HOPE was the perfect ending with full of action and faith. It was epic and beautiful all at the same time.

Daughter of Light, Son of Truth, and Heir of Hope are books that lead the reader down a winding journey to glory.

There are hardships.

There are loss and pain.

There is forgiveness.

There is rebirth.

More importantly: there's hope.

No corners were cut in the novels. It's truth and adventure bound together in a whirlwind saga.

The journeys of Rowen, Caleb, Nierne, and Lore were complete with the ebb and flow of faith that we all find ourselves experiencing.

Even though I wished for more of Caleb's story and to see more of his gifts and I felt the ending seemed too rushed, the deep plots, symbolism, and spiritual truth embedded within the story enhances the reader's enjoyment.

This is a saga that competes with George R.R. Martin and Tad Williams. Morgan Busse wrote an outstanding fantasy story.

I absolutely liked the idea, the writing and the world (changing eyes! How cool is that!?) and enjoyed the journey of niernee, Caleb and Lore. The changes all 3 characters went through were realistic and I especially liked Caleb (what a surprise)! However, the end was so disappointing... I always had my difficulties with the age gap between Rowen and Lore and I never felt a good chemistry between these two. The relationship between niernee and Caleb was so sweet and I was looking forward for the finale! Which felt kind of unloving..
I don't know what I think about Rowen... Her story was really sad and I felt sorry for her, but sometimes I got annoyed with her (or maybe just her story arc..).
I think overall there could have been more. I still have questions and the ending was pretty abrupt.

I enjoyed Daughter of Light. I liked Son of Truth. I couldn't stop reading Heir of Hope. Hands down, it's the best of the three and is a truly epic conclusion to this wonderful, challenging series. This trilogy is a beautiful story of love and grace and relationships and how God can work through even the least of His servants. And it's a stirring reminder of how God can use us even when we're broken, even when we've failed, and that even when we feel alone and like giving up, He's right there beside us, just waiting for us to ask for His help.

If you're looking for a well-written fantasy novel with real characters who will touch your heart, pick this one up, folks. It's superbly well done.

An epic finish

I purposely waited until I had money to start his series. :) This trilogy is told in truly epic style. The author masterfully wove together all the details and characters to finally come together in a battle for the world. Will the last two Elderans defeat the last two Shadonaes?

I greatly enjoyed the realistic thoughts and feelings of the main and supporting characters. The hand of The Word was evident just as was the impact of personal choices.

If you want an epic take with a strong Christian base, this trilogy and the final book will not leave you dissatisfied.

Wow, This book is just - Incredible, to put it mildly. This book was my favorite book of 2015 by quite a large margin, and I read a lot of books.

I can't even really put into words my feelings at the end of this book. Hopeful, powerful, thought-proving, beautiful.I'd give this book ten stars if I could.
The plot is fast and absolutely riveting, the characters complex and well rounded, their struggles were so real I found myself glued to the pages until the end, which, by the way, was absolutely perfect.
But even so, i do hope we haven't seen the last of these characters or this world, because I'm not yet ready to leave it behind.

Amazing series that completely draws you in.

I just finished reading all three books of the series. Each of them were amazing and live changing for me. They made me search my heart and evaluate my walk with the Lord. Do I really live my life for Him? Am I trusting Him and allowing Him to use me in whatever circumstances I find myself in?
I loved the individual characters and the relationships that developed...the forgiveness given. I was almost sad when I finished the last book.

I am in love with Nierne and Caleb. I would like to know more about them. I felt a little disappointed!
I am sorry Morgan. I love you!
