Reigning Miss Kentucky and brainiac, Emeltine ‘Eme’ Hanrahan, is having a really bad day. When three nitwit bank robbers turn a simple ribbon cutting ceremony into a hostage siege, it will take all of Eme’s smarts to handle the robbers and save the hostages. That includes one gorgeous stubborn US Marshal, who is clearly unwilling to concede that Eme is anything more than a brainless bombshell in a tiara The ditz in the tiara is not only ruining his bust, there’s a very good chance she’s going to get them both killed. Ben Riordan doesn’t know whether to cuff her or kiss her. First, she brains him in the head, then she gets them locked in the bank vault. Eventually freed it quickly becomes clear that someone is gunning for high profile witness Eme, determined to silence her for good. Now Ben not only has to keep Eme safe whilst using her as bait to lure into the open a criminal mastermind, he has to convince her that he can see past the tiara to the beautiful and brainy woman beneath.
An optimist, yet overly sarcastic. Big on bringing the laughs and the heat to her paranormal romance and cosy mystery series. A huge fan of snark, with a side order of bickering and a double heaping of banter. Delivering to the page sweet alpha males and their more than a match female counterparts. Before wrapping it all up in a hugely satisfying HEA each and every time.

Jane Cousins is completely awesome - I fall in love with each and every one of her books. I want to date the Hero, and I want the heroine to be my BFF. This third in her cosy mystery series delivers - fun, action, a mystery to solve and a rather sweet romance to swoon over. Eme, our h, is a genius, except when it comes to the opposite sex. Ben, our US Marshal, is capable but blinded by the tiara Eme is wearing and labels her a bimbo. There's a bank heist, some bad guys, getting trapped in a vault (I was snort laughing as I read how this all came about), missing millions, a stalker and so much more. The set ups were amusing, the story light but with some real tension occasionally. The dialogue zings, both witty and smart. A great supporting cast of characters, plus and appearance of Sher & Jake from book 2.
Come for the fun, stay for the sweet, sweet romance.
I'm stupid in love with this author. The Southern Sanctuary series is hilarious and way hot. This series is lighter, just as funny and the romances balanced nicely b/w hot and sweet. Characters you can root for. A HEA you can sigh over. LOVE.
Okay - it's all completely implausible - but I just loved it! Eme, was so much fun, a brain, a beauty. She ran rings around everyone but was delightfully confused by male/female interactions like flirting. Loved Eme/Ben together. The misunderstandings, the attraction, the laughs, great sparkling dialogue that had me smiling as I read. The big mystery wasn't all that big of a mystery but then we have a nice little twist out of left field. Liked all the secondary characters. A sweetie of a romance, made me laugh, little action, little suspense and a lovely HEA.
This author has done it again, created a charming light cosy/mystery romance with enough tension to keep it grounded and the reader gripped. Quite simply this was just sheer fun. The beauty queen (who is really a brainiac) and the US marshal - who meet during an armed robbery, get trapped together in the vault. And upon release the fun is just getting started as the bad guys think Eme knows something and Ben has to step up to protect her. There was loads of witty dialogue, excellent supporting characters and the romance evolved from lust/attraction into something deeper. Both the MC's have flaws - Eme doesn't know how to flirt, Ben might be under the misapprehension that's she's beautiful but dim. Jane Cousins has that rare ability to make you laugh and sigh over her sweet/sexy romances, and produce a fun, escapist read that will have you smiling until the HEA factor wears off.
What a disappointment this book was. I’ve read every other book published by Jane Cousins. The first two books in this series are good and her southern sanctuary books are some of my favorites of all time which is saying something as I read quite a bit. Cousins thing is strong bad ass heroines with alfalfa-sweet guys and love her work
This book just didn’t deliver. The first part of the book was ok but it just went down hill fast. It was one misunderstanding piled on top of the next then instead of actually talking things out like a healthy couple the misunderstandings just disappeared like they weren’t an issue.
FMC was only "super smart" while in the bank after she was just a regular jane. There being 2 sets of "bad guys" was obvious MMC, i guess his seduction method after he effed up was... let me be in her space?... I didn't like the MMC too many red flags, if this was real life he's definetly the type to be intimidated by FMC. He'd eventually tell her to not dress up because she is attracting men. Oh and her being smart or achieving something was a direct dig at him being dumb

Sweet and hilarious - a perfect combination. Eme, our h, was a hoot - a brain wrapped in a beauty queen packaging. Who doesn't really know anything about men or flirting. Our US Marshal Ben was gruff, sexy and smart. They meet during a bank robbery - that goes completely wrong (loved how Eme tricks him into the vault - saving his life in the process) - sparks fly, misunderstandings abound and suddenly Eme's life is in danger and only Ben can protect her. This was the perfect Sunday afternoon read - light, witty and just downright fun.
Loved it. So sweet, so funny, five stars plus for pure escapism. Our h, Eme, is a beautiful brain who doesn't know the first thing about men or flirting. Ben, our H. Is strong, confident and caught up in the Eme vortex - at the beginning - much against his will. I had a feeling about the bad guy, but it didn't spoil anything for me - this story was all about the romance and getting to the HEA. The set-up for Eme and Ben getting locked up in the vault was pure slapstick gold.
