When the rest of her household flees the family estate during the English Civil War, Hester Cavell, a proud Royalist supporter, stays behind hoping to protect her home. Unfortunately for Hester, she quickly finds that she is no match for a troop of Parliamentarian dragoons, led by Captain Daniel Hasard. Once the dragoons take control of her house, Daniel lets Hester stay with her servants, but he warns her that he will punish her severely if she causes any trouble.
Despite Daniel’s warning, it isn’t long before Hester risks her safety and attempts to sabotage his troops, earning her a long, hard switching on her bare bottom. But as the weeks pass, she begins to realize that the man behind the enemy uniform is loving, intelligent, and kind, and she can’t help but grow more and more attracted to him. Daniel returns Hester’s affection, and while they remain enemies by day to protect her reputation, they soon become passionate lovers by night.
Not wanting the servants to guess at their games, Hester continues to make a pretence at mischief, and Daniel continues to punish her sternly. But when a servant at last finds out the truth of their relationship, will it bring an end to their newfound romance, or will Daniel cast aside politics and allegiances and ask for her hand in marriage?

This lovely story was about enemies who were attracted to each other. The male had a position of power over the female and punished her attempts at anarchy with spanking. This was a well written story and not like those erotic stories in girlie magazines. Yes, it was intensely sensual, but there was such a romantic current. This story was consistent and easy to read, with likeable characters and believable situations. I would recommend this for purchase and reading.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I loved the characters and storyline so much. Hester and Daniel both protected the home it’s occupants, each other and his troop. With the return of the family I really wasn’t sure they’d be alive. On to the next story. 💜💜💜💜💜
This is almost like those "fetish" books that I generally avoid, but thankfully there's an emphasis on the "almost" -(I mean those books with men constantly spanking a submissive heroine and they're all giggling over it). This book isn't exactly like that, and features a sweet swashbuckling romance and steamy scenes (not all related to any fetish). It's pretty hot with the Alpha hero disciplining the subversive enemy heroine (however the enemy part doesn't last long nor does the discipline as such).
Enemy Turned Lovers
The Characters
Captain Daniel Hasard: is a tall, handsome commanding Alpha male swashbuckling solider, from a tough puritan background, keen on discipline and dominance (and he's enticingly very protective & domineering). He's not ruthless but isn't reticent either to dish out punishment and stamp is manly authority, whether male or female. However, when he falls in love with the Hester, he turns into a sweet noble lover (although his commanding solider persona is still within the surface).
Hester Cavell: a young curvy loyal Royalist defending her home from the roundheads. She's very impulsive, naïve and innocent and gets into all sorts of trouble placing herself in danger or getting caught before she could. Much to the impatience of the domineering Captain she's plotting and scheming against her perceived enemy, which instead ends up with her being on the receiving end of the Captain's wrath.
SET DURING THE ENGLISH CIVIL WAR
Plot: This book is more of a "steam" read, hence not much going on by way of a plot, not much detail, no intricate or intriguing action (apart from the bedroom), and ok characters - nothing riveting-character-development wise. It's capacity to please is within it's "steam" and romance elements. It's not a slow build (unfortunately) but it's not a swooning-INSTA-LUST type either. It's a sweet romance as well as a steam read.

This was such a great romance that is set right smack in the middle of a historical war! Hester meets Daniel and the sparks start to fly as their chemistry heats up. Add in some danger and suspense and this one is a winner! I received this book from Stormy Night Publications as an Advanced Reader Copy
This is the first book I have read from this author, and it will NOT be the last. Very well written in a historical period gives this book spice. I found myself smiling often with the misbehavior's Hester gets herself into. I recommend this book to anyone who loved a book set back in time. I received this book from Stormy Night Publications as an advanced reader copy.
