Not going to lie, this book is pretty shmaltsy. The illustrations were beautiful, but the story reminded me a little of Bambi. The Mother is removed from the picture and the dad is left to care for this puppy that he really doesn't seem to care for. It kind of bugged me that there was this disconnect from the puppy and the dog that was clearly the puppy's father. Either way, if you like animals this is a good book for you. It's got romance, funny parts, scary parts, and a happy ending that everyone can appreciate.

The story was a little bit sad. It was also kind of too long for young children to read and pay attention to.
