Leon Bock, Cáit Bohan, Ciara Broderick, Karen Brown, Sarah Coakley, Seán Forde, Deirdre Leech, Sandra Linnie, Paula Maguire, Brian McDermott, Carol McNally, Jacqui Murphy, Tom O’Brien, Sarah O’Grady, Ann Power, Mary Quine and Henry Timmins
Over one academic year, this group of students delivered a short story, a memoir piece and the start of a novel. They also gained the confidence to enter story writing and poetry competitions. In this anthology, each person has submitted their favourite writing from that year.
‘In this collection you’ll find stories, poems and memoir extracts that range from community meetings to river walks; from mother/daughter relationships to the intriguing ‘Am I dead?’; from a strange way of ‘minding the house’ to bus conducting in Dublin to visiting a poitín still in Connemara; from listening to tales of life as a film extra to the warm but challenging voice of a dead mother; from the memories generated by a record collection to the highs and lows of a little love affair; from the hilarity of a disastrous camping trip to inter-railing in Europe; from the reality of war to village life in Ireland; from the experience of a wake to the joy of walking away from a job you hate.
A book is a wondrous thing; how wonderful the work between these covers; how wonderful the writers who have produced that work; how fortunate we are to be reading it. John MacKenna Foreword
