Crimson Dawn: The Awakening has a genuinely engaging storyline at its core. Steven M. Cowan builds a dark, atmospheric world filled with ancient forces, violent power struggles, and a looming supernatural threat. The imagery of the wolf, the fiery battlegrounds, and the awakening of long‑buried powers is compelling, and the plot itself has real potential. The lore is interesting, the stakes feel high, and the setup for the larger saga is strong.
Where the book struggled for me was the writing style and pacing. Even though the story is good, the way it’s written made it hard to stay fully locked in. Scenes that should have been tense or immersive sometimes dragged, and the prose didn’t always match the intensity of the world being built. I found myself drifting in and out instead of being pulled deeper into the narrative.
The audio quality also took away from the experience. It often sounded like it was recorded on a phone — lots of dead air, inconsistent volume, and background noise. There were moments where it genuinely sounded like the narrator was chewing gum, which made it difficult to stay focused. A story with this much atmosphere deserves cleaner, more professional production.
Werewolves, Vampires & the un-dead - A battle for survival, a horror/adventure of mankind and its fight for survival in the wastelands, that I just could not put down. Beautifully written. The Saga will continue, and the next book is a must.
