About the author

Robert Kirkman is an American comic book writer best known for his work on The Walking Dead, Invincible for Image Comics, as well as Ultimate X-Men and Marvel Zombies for Marvel Comics. He has also collaborated with Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane on the series Haunt. He is one of the five partners of Image Comics, and the only one of the five who was not one of the original co-founders of that publisher.

Robert Kirkman's first comic books were self-published under his own Funk-o-Tron label. Along with childhood friend Tony Moore, Kirkman created Battle Pope which was published in late 2001. Battle Pope ran for over 2 years along with other Funk-o-Tron published books such as InkPunks and Double Take.

In July of 2002, Robert's first work for another company began, with a 4-part SuperPatriot series for Image, along with Battle Pope backup story artist Cory Walker. Robert's creator-owned projects followed shortly thereafter, including Tech Jacket, Invincible and Walking Dead.

I actually preferred this to the first volume. I think the first volume didn’t lean too heavy to action or story whereas here the focus was very much on the action and art. It’s a conquest vs battle beast book which in itself is very fun and I had a good time reading this.

If you're expecting a tonne of plot here, you're gonna be disappointed.

If you're hoping for Battle Beast to fight Conquest for 60 pages, then...you're in the right place. Ryan Ottley really can do no wrong when it comes to stuff like this. Beautiful chaos, hyperviolence to the extreme, and so easy to read.

Awesome second volume that thrives from the art and crazy action they do. Conquest is peak in this and just the bloody gore they do goes nuts. Pumped to see it continue next year.

Man, is this book bloody and gory and I absolutely love it! It continues to be one of the most fun series I read with its beyond over the top, extreme sci-if and fantasy violence. Ottley is serious doing some of the best work of his career in this title and I cannot wait to see what he does next!

Story-wise there really isn't much to talk about, BUT, it's a fun gory beat-em-up romp and I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy reading it.

Conquest coming back is too good. I’m very picky with my 5 stars but damn this series looks to be heading in a great direction. Curious if the Fantanium Kingdom will play a roles through the whole series. Already loving King Salaka and Zoolahs development. As well as Battle beast, even if it’s a minuscule amount. Amazing art as expected, a lot of those splash pages can be great posters and wallpapers, sometimes you lose the flow of the story because you have to take in the drawings. Conquest and battle beast going at it was pretty cool to see. Genuinely some tough ass fight scenes. The intestine yank and then facing off on the underside of dead dragon will be forever goated. God willing, if this gets an animated series it will definitely do numbers alongside invincible.

The meat of this issue... or the heart of this issue, if you will... or, you know actually, the GUTS of this issue is a brutal fight between Conquest and Battle Beast.

That's it. That's the point of this story arc. And it is GLORIOUS. Would give it six stars if I could.

I’ve been so excited to read this arc after the last one ended in the cliffhanger of Conquest impending. Thankfully, it did not disappoint in the slightest.

It starts off a bit slow, just easing us back into things, seeing what’s up after some passage of time. Nice to get back to the rhythm of events, some light battle for the beast too facing both Juggernaut and Colossus in a brilliantly bloody affair. Things shift on a dime though, as we are once again met with the famous words — Stand ready for my arrival, worm.

A battle doesn’t immediately ensue, with a pissing match of sorts through words and dinner, but nothing could ever keep these two caged for long as a glorious encounter occurs.

I have to say, this was very homoerotic. Watching these two beings who live for carnage and combat engage in it in the most mortal of manners is intoxicating, and their dialogue throughout is scintillating. The tension and blood and guts on display are all so riveting and all live up to what this fight promised. I didn’t fully realise until the back of the book with words from Ottley that during Thokk and Conquest’s brief partnership that the worms behind them formed a heart, and that only adds to the wondrous homoeroticism shown throughout their battle.

I couldn’t quite believe how it all ends too, with them rearing up for the epic conclusion of their battle, only for them to both collapse, draped in their own and each others blood, to be continued… Unbelievable ending in all honesty. I obviously know neither of them are going to die here, but to see them just collapse is shocking and a perfect example of something that leaves you wanting more. A bit disappointed to see that there’s no release date yet for issue 13, meaning another 9/10 months minimum until I get back into this series, but with the massive step up in quality here and amazing conclusion to this arc, I can’t wait to see what they cook up next.
