This magical world just keeps getting bigger, and I'm loving every minute of it!
Getting to explore new cities and their unique cultures added so much depth to an already fascinating world. And MORE DRAGONS! 🐉 Learning about new dragons and dragonbound, each with their own magical abilities, was easily one of my favorite parts. The magic system just keeps getting more interesting!
The relationships continue to develop along the same trajectory, and I appreciate that the growth feels natural rather than rushed.
We do get quite a few POVs this time around. While they helped establish the background needed for all the traveling and new locations, the constant switching occasionally left me a little lost for awhile before I caught back on.
But seriously, Megan... WHAT IS IT WITH THESE ENDINGS?!
Apparently, wrapping up a book without leaving your readers in emotional distress is simply not an option. The audacity. 😂

After reading Wings of Life, I was thrilled to be able to dive straight into the sequel, Scales of Flame.
While this book felt slightly less suspenseful than the first, it still kept me turning pages well into the night. There was something about the world of Jaeda and the journey of Eldreth and Serae that completely captivated me.
In this installment, we see both characters grow in beautiful and meaningful ways. Serae develops not only in her power but also in her selflessness, while Eldreth truly rises to meet both the challenges of their relationship and Serae’s needs.
I loved exploring the Rith alongside them and visiting its major cities, each with its own unique character and leadership. And then there was that ending... By the final chapters, I could sense where the story was heading, yet I still found myself hoping for a different outcome.

The world building in this book was incredible. Learning about the different clans, their beliefs, and what each stood for added so much depth to the story. And knowing there's still more to discover? I can't wait to see what book 3 has in store for us!
I fell in love with these characters all over again! And can we talk about the brothers? They absolutely CRACK ME UP, especially the older one. If you know, you know! The jokes, the banter, and the personalities had me giggling throughout this book.
And do I even need to mention the sass from our favorite dragon, Vaya’la! She brings even more attitude in this book, and I am absolutely living for every single one of her snarky side comments! She has me cackling!
One of my favorite parts was learning more about how the dragons choose their bonded. I love how each dragon and their bonded complement one another and there is a reason why the dragons picked them! Their relationships and personalities add another layer of complexity to an already amazing story!
My only complaint is I wanted more of Sprakt! But I have a feeling we will see more of him in book 3!
The twists and turns have me in a chokehold! I am so invested in this trilogy, and I genuinely can't wait to see how it all ends. My fantasy-loving heart is not ready!

Scales of Flame was a solid read. After the revelations at the end of book 1 it was great to get some new POVs and glimpses of the past to help explain things more. I love a grand quest, so the journey to close the Doors is perfect for me. I find it very intriguing how history seems to be repeating itself and I'm so curious as to how that story will move forward. The expanding powers of the dragonbound is really interesting and I love how they're able to work together. Overall, it's a good continuation for book 1 and I'll be waiting to see how the story continues.

A good follow up to the first book. As the romantic relationship continues to strengthen there doesn't seem to be any kind if communication between them, they just seem to bang it out.
The brothers seem to be the only voice of reason within this book and give it some entertainment.
Hoping the next one is more engaging as even though this one was good, I did lose the plot from time to time, but it didn't seem to ruin the pace of the story.

Scales of Flame by Meghan Le Fay

I was BEYOND excited to not only receive an eARC of Wings of Life, but then to get one for Scales of Flame as well! I felt so incredibly honored. I’ve had this book preordered ever since I finished the first one, so needless to say, I was counting down the days!
Scales of Flame picks up where we left off in book one, and I absolutely loved where Meghan took the story. To me, this book was the perfect example of just enough spice while still having so much substance to the plot that I would happily pick it up even if there were ZERO spice scenes.
The way Meghan focused on the seven dragons had me completely intrigued. There were multiple timelines woven throughout the story, giving us little glimpses (and sometimes spoilers!) of what was to come. I loved learning more about the history through flashbacks and getting a better understanding of the Great Dragons and the secrets they've been keeping.
I also loved watching Bale and Serae's sibling bond grow stronger and seeing how they continued to hold onto that connection through the different trials thrown their way.
And THAT ENDING... DIABOLICAL. Absolutely diabolical.
Now, my one major irk: Serae.
For the first part of the book, I found myself getting increasingly frustrated with her behavior. She was angry with Eldreth for killing her abusive father, blamed him for so many things (creating a rift between them), and seemed irritated that he didn't automatically agree with her ideas or treat them as the obvious course of action. Meanwhile, this man CONTINUALLY went out of his way to SAVE her from being kidnapped and gave her space whenever she asked for it.
Even her own dragon was calling her out on her BS!
I just wish she would actually communicate what she's thinking instead of constantly walking away. How is that supposed to solve anything? You want to be taken seriously and have your ideas heard, but then you act like a petulant child whenever things get difficult? Girl, you can't have it both ways!
That being said, overall, this book was FANTASTIC. I was completely invested in the story, the dragons, the history, and the characters (even the ones who tested my patience).
Now I can only hope I'm lucky enough to receive an eARC for book three because I NEED to know what happens next! 🤞🤞🤞

I sometimes forget just how much I love dragons, and then a book like this comes along and reminds me. The world of Jaeda is full of magic, danger and increasingly terrifying threats, and this instalment takes everything up another notch. There’s war spreading across kingdoms, darkness bleeding into the world and an impossible mission that could cost more than anyone is prepared to lose.
And amongst all of that chaos, we have Serae and Eldreth. These two are SO cute together. Horny AF, obviously, but also genuinely adorable 😂 Their connection has grown into something really special, and I loved seeing just how much they mean to each other.
“This connection I had with her had grown, and when we were together, I imagined I felt a piece of her soul within my own.”
There are some seriously sweet moments between them, even when the spice is very much present. Although, I have to say, you could not pay me enough to divulge my personal sex details to a council of priestesses. Absolutely not.
“She was the strongest fucking person I knew. She could survive anything. She had to.”
And then there’s Bale. POOR BALE. Can this man please catch a break? Every time I think things might get better for him, something else comes along to put him through it. My heart cannot keep taking this.
“I was ready to tear down the fucking world for Serae, piece by piece, but what good would it do if it didn’t bring her back to me?”
The emotional stakes in this book are HUGE. Between the growing darkness, the Great Doors, the shifting alliances and everything the characters are being asked to sacrifice, there’s so much happening. And just when you think you have a handle on things…
WHAT. IS. HAPPENING?!
That ending! I genuinely need the next book immediately because I have QUESTIONS. So many questions. I cannot be left sitting here with that going on in my head.
Overall, another brilliant instalment in the series. The dragons have reminded me why I love them, Serae and Eldreth have my whole heart, Bale needs a hug and possibly a holiday, and that ending has absolutely ruined my peace.

I recently finished Scales of Flame by @meghanlefay so naturally had to come on here and yap about how much I loved this book because spoiler alert it was a 5 ⭐️ banger!
This is book two in The Dragonbound Chronicles series and OMG what a follow up to Wings of Life.
The world in which Meghan has created in this series is both fierce yet whimsical with a story so rich in history and magic. And these characters…they love fiercely and are willing to stop at nothing to protect those that they love. And I loved all the different ways in which love is represented in this story. And the dragons…they have so much freaking personality I found myself cackling at their dialogue with each of their Dragonbound, it was just so good 👏🏻👏🏻
I binged this book so hard but I was not emotionally ready for the ending. I’m both scared and excited at how this series is going to come to a close with Maw of Death. The fact that I have to wait until then just isn’t okay 😂
Anyways, I hope this has convinced you guys to pick up this series, it’s become one of my favorite fantasy series this year and I honestly I just want everyone to start reading these books!
Scales of Flame is out in the world on 11/17! And if you’re local, Meghan will be celebrating the release at Changing Hands in Phoenix on release day! I’m going so maybe I’ll see you there!

Wings of Life was one of my top reads of the year, so I was so excited to dive back into this world.
In this second book, we find Serae and Eldreth embarking on a journey that will save the world. The world building we get is incredible!! We learn so much about the various people that inhabit this world and their beliefs and traditions. I loved the depth this added to the story, it made it feel rich and alive and drew me deeper into this journey.
And watching the love between Serae and Eldreth grow was so good! Their relationship evolves from a place of hesitation to such deep love and trust with every challenge they face. They find support in each other, even in the middle of chaos, when the world seems against them.
But truly, all the characters in this book are amazing. Every one of them is written so well, you can’t help but love (or sometimes hate) them all. From the members of Serae’s raang, to each of the dragons, to adorable Sprakt, each character brings something special to this story. The bonds between the characters added so much heart to this story that I am just as invested in the side characters as I am in Serae and Eldreth!
There were moments in this book that were so good they gave me chills and I found myself going back to reread them just to experience these emotions again!
I honestly cannot say enough good things about this series! The world, the characters, the romance, ALL OF IT!! These are the kinds of books that remind me exactly why I love fantasy so much. Absolutely top-tier storytelling, and I cannot recommend this series enough!

So thank you Netgalley for the ARC, after reading book 1 I was very excited to get into book 2.
The story continues from where we left off from the first but we are now focusing more on the dragon bound and learning more about their past and history. As well as our relationships building.
Now while I really enjoy this unfortunately for me parts did drop off, I found this a bit more confusing than the first and we were just constantly jumping all over the place. Which did sorta pull me out at times. I understand a lot needed to go into it to set up where we were going but sometimes I didn’t always understand what was going on.
The relationship between them I do absolutely love, I love them together so much, and as a whole really feel their relationship. We did have a bit of miscommunication at the start which after the whole thing in the first honestly would have rather them speak about as I did think that was settled from the first.
The dragonbound and the whole thing around that I find so so interesting with all the doors and the dragons themselves but I did struggle at times with making sense of it all with the powers and what they needed to do.
I still absolutely love the writing and the book story itself, but I just had a few issues with this at times. Which is why it’s not ranked as high as the first. I still stand by it’s a good book and I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
If you like the high fantasy aspect I think this is an absolute perfect read for you and I will definitely be continuing.

Now while I really enjoy this unfortunately for me parts did drop off, I found this a bit more confusing than the first and we were just constantly jumping all over the place. Which did sorta pull me out at times. I understand a lot needed to go into it to set up where we were going but sometimes I didn’t always understand what was going on.
The relationship between them I do absolutely love, I love them together so much, and as a whole really feel their relationship. We did have a bit of miscommunication at the start which after the whole thing in the first honestly would have rather them speak about as I did think that was settled from the first.
The dragonbound and the whole thing around that I find so so interesting with all the doors and the dragons themselves but I did struggle at times with making sense of it all with the powers and what they needed to do.
I still absolutely love the writing and the book story itself, but I just had a few issues with this at times. Which is why it’s not ranked as high as the first. I still stand by it’s a good book and I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
If you like the high fantasy aspect I think this is an absolute perfect read for you and I will definitely be continuing.

Being back in the beautiful world of Jaeda was everything. 🐉✨
Scales of Flame takes you on such an incredible adventure filled with loyalty, ancient magic and love. The world building and lore in this book are insanely brilliant and unlike anything I’ve read before.
As much as I loved having the opportunity to ARC read this, writing a review with zero spoilers is a challenge because I have SO much I want to talk about. 🫣
The magic system is so intricate and clever, and the way the dragons are woven into the story is next level amazing. And the sass on these dragons?! 😂 They had me cracking up so many times, I absolutely loved them.
Eldreth, my red haired king is easily one of my favourite book men. His unwavering loyalty and dedication to Serae is felt in every interaction between them, even during moments of tension and fallout. 🥹
Serae is an incredible FMC. She’s strong minded, completely selfless and adapts to everything thrown at her. Her bond with her dragon is one of my favourite relationships in this book, and I wish I could talk about this more but for now you have to trust me!
We’re also treated to multiple POVs, each adding so much depth and intrigue to the story. I have a particularly special place in my heart for Ellan, his wit, humour and loyalty make him so loveable and I can’t wait to see where his character goes.

You get to learn more about the process of how bonding happens and why the dragons chose like they did. I was fascinated by this and loved it cause i am a massive fan of dragons.

They are tasked by the Great Dragon to close all of the magical doors to ensure the darkness doesn’t spread further in the Mortal realm. I loved the first book; I felt like it had everything I need in an epic romantasy. I was so happy to be back in this world! I missed the ancient magic and lore. And the TWISTS.... betrayals ....epic battles... this book packed a lot in with a well fleshed out plot of all the romantasy things you could love. Even though it is a book 2, the romantic tension between Serae and Eldreth is still TENSE at first and I loved watching it transform to just resolute loyalty and devotion.
There is so much more depth given to this book with the additional POVs. I'm trying to avoid spoilers but there is a lot more to the dragon bonds that predates our current world, there are so many intricate layers you can't even IMAGINE. The dragons are actually unexpectedly funny and cheeky? And they have no problem telling it like it is and calling out any potential ridiculousness & trying to correct it.
Also, personally I feel that Bale really stole the show in this book. There was so much he has to overcome and contend with in this book, my heart really broke for him between the last book and this one.

Lore is built on and we get to discover more about the past Dragonbound and their efforts to stop the spread of the darkness infecting their lands by closing the magical doors.
The characters are as great as in the first and Serae and Eldreth's relationship is as strong as any other fantasy romance couple. I also enjoy the relationships both main characters have with their respective siblings.
This series is such an interesting one and is unique to anything else I have read. Although some events happen quite quick and some happen off page so we don't see it, it's a solid book and one that deserves hype.

My absolute favourite parts of both the books are the connections between the dragons and their bound. I enjoyed being inside Bale’s mind in this book and understanding his connection on a deeper level too. I hope we get to delve into Bale & Ellen in the next book!
At times I found the pacing to be a little slow. On saying that there is so much world building and political games which need to be told. Saere is such a strong FMC. I love that she doesn’t need Eldreth saving her like a damsel in distress. The ranngs are brilliant to read, I loved all their side drama keep in you in the loop and connected with all the characters.

4.25 stars. This sequel picks up right where things left off in the previous book. We get to see a much bigger expansion of the world and more lore surrounding the magic system.
I enjoyed this book. I especially enjoyed the love that develops between our FMC and MMC. The plot itself was good. But I found it slow and meandering at times. This book is definitely a “journey” book with lots of traveling. There is also a period of time in which our main characters were separated which became a lot less interesting to me since I am mainly invested in the love story.
Overall, I think this is well written. It expands the world and lore and would be good for people wanting a more fantasy leaning story. The end leaves off with a cliffhanger that sets up the next book.

Serae gotta be one of my favorite mfc of this year, it's so easy to empathize with her and root for her, and Eldreth is her best companion. But now her brother takes all the flowers because I found his chapters so much more interesting.
The lore I found interesting in the first book, this time is a little bit more slow and drags especially through the first 10 chapters, took me ages to get through those but then I found myself liking it more in the second part.
Anyways, it's not as good as the first book sadly, the plotwist are not as good and the vibes are just not the same, needed more explanation and less action I believe.

I enjoyed this book, it had wonderful plot elements, loved the developing world- but I didn’t love it as much as book one.
I LOVE the creation, the connection to Vaya’la, in fact Vaya’la is entirely one of my favourite parts of this series! The way Meghan writes and weaves this beautiful form of magic is truly beautiful!
I love the relationship between Serea and Wep, but I was REALLY hoping we were done with the miscommunication trope of things. Communication could have saved us a lot of frustration and plot slog along the way.
I want to be more invested in Jerris and his brother, but I couldn’t get into their storyline.
Thankfully the plot picked up for me by 3/4 and I am still staring at a wall from that ending and last minute reveal.

I really enjoyed this one! Not quite as much as Wings of Life, but I still loved being back with these characters. Honestly, I just love Eldrith and Serae, and Bale and Ell! I’m so invested in all of them and can’t wait to see where their stories go next!
It had all the right ingredients for a great fantasy romance, but I did feel it was a tad too long in places. There was also quite a lot of miscommunication in the first half, which is never my favourite trope! I spent a fair bit of time wishing they’d just have a proper conversation 🤣
That said, I still really enjoyed it and there’s definitely enough going on to keep me excited for the next book. A good sequel, even if I preferred the first one!

This series has me in an absolute chokehold and I’m absolutely obsessed! Dragons, political intrigue, strong FMC, immersive world building, spice, and found family? Say less. The character development in this book was phenomenal and watching Serae grow into a fierce woman on her journey throughout Jadea was so satisfying. I loved how the different storylines from Wings of Life intersect and reading it was mesmerizing. The slowburn from book one was so worth the wait and the spice was 🔥🔥🔥 Also, the dragons? So sassy and I am here for it!
It’s giving vibes from Shield of Sparrows, Fourth Wing, and A Court of Silver Flames so if you’re a fan of those, this is a must read!

Incredible worldbuilding! I took a little longer to get to Scales of Flame because I wanted to read book one first, and it made me even more excited to dive into this sequel. Books with dragons are everything to me, and this one did not disappoint! The twists and turns kept me flipping pages, and I can’t wait for book three. A must-read for anyone who loves dragons, high stakes, shifting alliances, and romance.

Book Two in The Dragonbound Chronicles was a wild ride. We get some new POVs and glimpses into the past that help explain some key points more. I really really love the sassy dragons 🐉. Vaya’la is EVERYTHING… sarcastic, bossy and sassy for dayssss. This was a journey through a high stakes quest with top tier side characters and banter along the way. Impatiently waiting for book 3!
