Back in the year 2027, certain FBI files concerning a deceased, megalomaniac billionaire finally blew up and became public knowledge. No one in power was spared. The British Royal Family fell. The American President was impeached. World leaders, billionaires, law makers, they all faced justice.
The world watched on in awe and disgust.
But, slowly, the people moved on. As the years rolled by, so public apathy increased. The evil atrocities committed in those files seeped into the public conscience. The facts became mundane. Almost acceptable. Social media memes made light of it. People argued. Nothing was resolved.
And now, in 2047, the citizens of the globe are a seething mass of misdirected hate and confusion, wondering where it all went wrong. Each individual is permanently glued to their favourite personal device, fed an endless stream of rot, spewing hate at each other. Isolated. Divided. Poverty-stricken. Lonely. Scared.
The faces at the top have changed, but the structure of the world remains fundamentally the same. The unspeakable evil that once lived in the shadows of high society, is now out in the open. Societal taboos are slacker. Cannibalism and other heinous acts have been normalised. Legalised.
Now that evil is regulated and systemized, largely thanks to the new-and-improved, global, Freedom of Speech amendment, the secret underbelly of the upper echelons has whole new depths of depravity to plunder…
Twenty-seven-year-old Elsie Morris has signed up to join the Flesh Factory – a government run organisation that promises huge sums of money to the partakers’ respective families, as well as living in one of their luxurious compounds for the short period of time they remain alive, in return for their participation.
In the technologically-driven future, humans are largely redundant. A person only has one remaining asset – their flesh. The one thing that self-acting technology systems cannot replicate.
This is an extreme horror novella. Reader discretion is advised.
“Prime Cut” is a pure dystopian future hellscape. Set in the year 2047, the story follows Elsie as she volunteers herself to the Flesh Factory in order to obtain funds to pay for her mother’s cancer treatment. What she finds is even worse than she could have ever imagined. I thoroughly enjoyed “Prime Cut.” While elements are certainly extreme, it’s imagining of the super-rich and elites harnessing their resources and influence, combined with the seemingly inevitable disaster that the implication of AI into everything will lead to, don’t seem exceptionally far fetched. It is blatantly political in who and what this world is inspired by and based upon. So if that’s not your thing, this may not be for you. If you are a fan of “Tender Is The Flesh” you will probably enjoy this as it shares some similar themes.
Set in 2047, Prime Cut should feel like a distant, dystopian future, but with everything going on in the world right now, it feels horribly believable - and that’s what makes this one so fucking scary. This book is fucking brutal, and I loved it 💀
The parallels to the current ‘president’ and the Ê files surrounding him are impossible to miss, even though it’s subtle not subtle references 🫠 There’s nothing comforting about thinking “this could never happen”. Instead, you’re left thinking “fuck… this actually could”. Sam takes the political climate we’re living through and pushes it into an even darker, more brutal future.
I did knock a star off because the ending felt too abrupt. I needed more, especially when it came to the FMC and what happens to her. I was left desperately wanting to know where her story went.
Still, a solid, brutal read, and I’m officially obsessed with the Flesh Factory verse!
This was a brilliant little read. A young woman with a sick mother and a dark past wants to do what she can to help her mother. There is only one way she can think of. Will they take her? Can she do through with it? You will have to read to find out. I really enjoyed this and felt empathy for Elsie. She is a character you can get to grips with and feel for. A well written easy read that has a good storyline. Recommended!
In the not too distant future, the epically wealthy have fully taken over the world. People sell themselves as meat to save their families from sickness and poverty. This is Elsie's story of selling herself to the Flesh Factory to save her mother from cancer. Made me a little 🤮 just from the dread of it.
very middle of the road. i figured it would get more extreme instead of just explaining the possibilities. i do find it’s a very timely novella considering it came out two months ago and the bits about legalized ai generated csam has basically become a thing in the states at this point. i am looking forward to reading the sister novella to this, redacted, when it comes out.
For some a meal is hard to come by but for the elite its pick of the less fortunate. Tristan has a taste of his own no matter how much money the 1% have The Flesh Factory is his baby he makes the rules for there he is the be all end all if you catch his eye you actually get the prize.
However, little to politically pointed for my liking. I don’t mind a little bit of opinion coming through but this was a bit much when trying to escape ‘real world’.
It reminds me so much of Epstein's island. The politics of today and the people screaming new world order. The elites in here are no better than the elites of real life.
With the amount of world building I felt like I was reading a fantasy! Then bish bash bosh goodbye leg and hello the end?? wtf?? Weird pacing and complete lack of horror for me😬
Definitely something different but in a way interesting or maybe even weird. I just do not know what to think about the Sam West and his thoughts on how you can even think like this.
