In this third book of the Mountain Man series, we are introduced to a new threat—Fist and his gang of 'Norsemen', who also happen to be cannibals—it gets pretty dark, as you can imagine.
Tenner, the psychopath from book 1, finally makes his reappearance. Scott also returns, and the book mostly revolves around him. Gus is absent from this one save for a couple of passing mentions—I'm sure he'll be back in book 4.
Scott is still on the hunt for Tenner to avenge his old friends who were murdered. On his travels, he runs across Amy, a survivor out looking for supplies for her crew. She takes him back to their base, where there's a surprise waiting for him. As we progress through the story, you start to realise that Fist, his Norseman, Tenner and Scott are all heading for a showdown.
It was a little slow going in parts, especially the first half, but it got better as it went on. This series isn't any great work of literary fiction; I mean, it's a zombie story, so it's not going to be—but it's still very readable and one of those that keeps you wanting to know what happens next. I will move on to the next book, as I want to catch up with where Gus is at.
Rating it 3.5/5.
