👓💍A nerdy FMC fake marries a hockey star in this steamy opposites-attract, college sports rom-com 🏒🌶️I just wanted my scholarship back so I could get my degree. What I got was a ring on my finger and a cocky, sinfully hot hockey player for a husband. Brock Steele. Thunderhawks’ star centre, and human distraction in a backwards cap. I’m his bookish tutor with an Earl Grey addiction, and a talent for staying invisible. At least until hisPR disaster cost me my scholarship!
His indecently tempting fix? A fake marriage. His image gets cleaned up and my tuition gets paid.
Just pretend dates, zero feelings, and absolutely not noticing how good he looks fresh out of the shower. Easy, right? Except “fake” starts blurring the minute he calls me darlin’ in that slow purr of his. And then I went and did something truly reckless.
I caught feelings for my completely off-limits, fake husband.
Piper Sullivan is an old school romantic who enjoys reading romantic stories as much as she enjoys writing them. She spends her time day-dreaming of dashing heroes and the feisty women they love.
This book was such a fun mix of tropes I love—opposites attract, forbidden romance, and marriage of convenience—all wrapped into a hockey romance that had both heart and drama.
Carrie is the quiet, brilliant tutor who has learned the hard way not to mix business with pleasure, while Brock is the alpha hockey player with a bad-boy reputation—but he’s also more grounded than expected, actively preparing for life after hockey. Their dynamic starts off rocky but quickly builds into something intense and undeniable.
One of the standout moments for me was the turning point at the bar—when Carrie realizes something is wrong and steps in to protect Brock. That moment completely shifts the story and raises the stakes, especially when she’s the one who ends up facing the consequences. Watching her deal with losing her scholarship and feeling like everything is slipping away was heartbreaking.
The marriage-of-convenience twist added so much tension and emotional depth. What starts as a solution quickly becomes complicated when real feelings take over. And I appreciated that when things go wrong, they really go wrong—Brock has to put in the work to earn Carrie’s trust again, which made their relationship feel more real.
Overall, this was a fast-paced, emotional read with great chemistry and satisfying character growth. If you love hockey romances with strong tropes and real emotional payoff, this one is definitely worth picking up.
This is the 1st story in A Fake Marriage Opposites -Attract, College Hockey Romance Series where we get to meet Brock the Thunderhawks’ star hockey player who can date any girl on campus finds himself needing a tutor. When Carrie is hired to tutor Brock she pushes him and Brock starts getting better grades and finally has someone who believes and cares about him outside hockey. Carrie hangs out with the players and gets to know them so one night Brock drinks a tainted drink and Carrie brings him back to her room to sleep it off and she ends up getting in trouble losing her scholarship. Brock being behind her 100% does the unthinkable and fake marries Carrie so she’ll get her education paid for by the team/school. These two find themselves developing into more than a fake relationship only for a misunderstanding to cause Carrie to withdraw. It’s wonderful to see how Brock tries to win Carrie back! What a wonderful story with a lit bit of mischief, misfortune, bravery and finding genuine love.
I really liked how these two got to know each other, that they saw deep inside one another and accepted what they saw. I believed in their connection and chemistry, enjoyed their banter and the support and encouragement they got from those closest to them. I really liked seeing their relationship evolve and I believed in them as a couple. I thought they they were right for each other in so many ways and I wanted them to face their fears, be brave, honest, true, fight for what they wanted and have their dreams come true. I am voluntarily leaving this review after receiving an ARC.
I loved this storyline. Carrie is all business and Brock is all play, they compliment each other perfectly. Sparks fly from the first encounter and never waiver right to the end. I really love Carrie’s spunk when she has to face the university. This steamy athlete/tutor story is a must read! I received an advanced copy and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Brock and Carrie were a match made in heaven. They balance eachother so well!!! She pushes him to do better and he helps her feel beautiful and desirable beyond her brains.
Tropes Fake Marriage Opposites attract Golden Retriever and Black Cat
would have been a nice story but WAY TOO MUCH swearing and sex scenes. I won't be reading other books by this author if this is what she thinks is entertaining.
