Imagine that, suddenly, everything was taken away from you. Your home, your belongings, even the sun. Sent to live underground, you have to toil away in the mines for hours, the monotony of your efforts interrupted only by a sharp bark of a guard, a crack of a whip, or the drip of water from the dark ceiling above. Your food is as tasteless as it is colorless, but you eat to survive. Everything you do is to survive. Eventually, you have children, who grow up and learn how to survive themselves, long enough to have children of their own, who they then teach to survive. And with each generation, knowledge of the sun, trees, and fresh air, become bedtime stories told to help the children go to bed. Sometimes, you’ll find that you’ve been graced with a special talent. You are smarter than those around you, you have the voice of an angel, you’re more beautiful than most. Try as you might to hide them, eventually you will inevitably attract the attention of a guard, and they will send you in for evaluation. If deemed worthy, you are sent to work the surface as a slave for the King, trading the cold, damp darkness for the warmth of the sun, trading your family for a life of slavery, never to return back to your home. This is the life I have been born into, but it’s not the life I am going to live. Survival is getting harder and harder, and my people are fading away into the darkness. I will be the one to lead them into the light.
Ascension is a story about challenges, love, and self-discovery.
At 75 percent done, I must say I like the plot, love the character development, but the grammar and spelling mistakes make this book nearly unreadable. At 20 percent I had already reported 150+ errors. That's unacceptable. At 50 percent I stopped reporting because I was enjoying the story and it was taking me far too long to read because of the reporting. I don't understand how a Kindle version can contain so many uncorrected errors.
Wow, only three reviews on this book alone? Honestly my first thing to say about this book is how unrated it is. It deserves more credit then it is given now. An undiscovered gem I like to call it. And undiscovered gem this book is! Anyway, I was curious when I looked at the cover and read the description, it seemed like it would be a good read so I gave it a try. The first thing I noticed was how unnaturally small the font was. But it seem to suit it and I grew into quickly. Also, I won't give away the plot because you 'll have to see for your self. The book was entertaining and interesting. Though not without its flaws. For example, some of the words were misspell, in clear need of an better editor. Also the ending seemed rushed but great as well. It's a stand alone. If your wondering about that. Other then that, I have no problems with the book. (Maybe a few), but I won't go into that. I hereby give it four stars. So if your looking for not your everyday (dystopia?). A likable heroine, and a bit of romance. This book is for you. The verdict? See for yourself.
