As a fan of stories that feature creepy adorable girls and suave skeletons, I must say that overall, I like this book for its unusual story structure, engaging characters, and numerous plot twists.

Even though it took me awhile to appreciate the fact that the story didn’t have a table of contents, I liked that it didn’t because it forced me to think about how each chapter connected with one another. Plus, it helped that the book had a MUCH BETTER pace compared to most Stephen King novels. No offense to the King of Thriller novels, but we are living in a world where most fantasy and horror readers are also video game players so yeah, expect that most of them would want to read fast paced books.

As for the characters, because I am a huge fan of Kill Monday games (ex. “Fran Bow”), I am EXTREMELY characters Valerie and Longfellow. Valerie, because she’s sweet and sinister even after death. Longfellow, because although he can be a flirt at times, he also has good moral values, especially when it comes to his relationship with Blue. While I would’ve like to see Connie and Valerie’s parents play more of a role, overall, I am very happy with what I received.

As for plot twists, well we definitely don’t wanna spoil those, ha ha! However, me personally, I would appreciate a happier ending. But then again, like I said, I am a Kill Monday games fan so excuse me for the bias.

I do admit that as I was reading this, I came across a LOT of questionable devices such as the overuse of adverbs (ex. She opened her jaw strangely) and a few grammar mistakes here and there. However, none of those stopped me from wanting to know what happens next.

If this book had at least a few illustrations or became a graphic novel, I think that more modern readers would appreciate it. However, as someone who has looked towards literature since she was young to find an avenue for her acting talents outside of performing Shakespeare skits in English class, I’d say that it’s worth giving this book a read.

I do hope to finally meet Scalita again so I can give him a nice surprise as a token of my appreciation. :)
