Holy moly…what can happen when the holidays decide to play!

I love the work of Stephanie Burke. Her stories are always so inventive and fresh. They’re also hot. This one was no different. Valentine, aka Cupid, wants his holiday to have some prominence so he decides to stick it to Santa, aka Chris Kringle. How? By stealing some of his wassail.

This is a hot story, no doubt. There are moments where it almost tips into dubious consent, but I went into the story with the mentality that Rose was meant for Val. With that in mind, it’s hot. He pushes, which if one wants erotica heat, then this one fits the bill.

If you’re looking for something that’s hot, sizzles the page and is perfect for an afternoon read, then this one is for you.

This was a short, erotic story. If you like strong, independent female characters, this probably isn't a story for you. The sole female character is treated as a sex object and slave. There is minimal story aside from some vague dispute between Chris (Santa) and Valentine (Cupid), and it wasn't even really a HFN ending. This is like part of a story. It's okay if you are here for the eroticism and sex, but I personally found it unsatisfying as a story. (Middle-aged female here. YMMV.)

I received a free copy of this story via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Cupid/Valentine is tired of Chris Cringle/Santa Claus taking over more and more of the other holidays existence. Feeling ticked off, he steals a bottle of Chris’s wassail and uncorks a sensuous woman who he makes his in every way. But if he wants to keep her, he’ll have to make a bargain. An erotic quickie with a dominant Cupid who wants what he wants and the woman/Rose can only say yes to his demands in a dubcon kind of way. The ending? I’m not sure.

This is Cupid as we’ve never seen him before! Set in a world where holidays have rulers and gain power from those who celebrate them, Cupid Gone Weird, hooked me from the first paragraph. Cupid’s pissed. Chris Cringle is riding a crest of power as he spells into everyone’s season. He stole from Eve aka All Hallows Eve, and now him! Christmas in February? Not on his watch. I loved this portrayal of the drunken, winged deity, and his rebellious nature. This kilt wearing, rough around the edges bringer of love is not one to be messed over. But his solo mission to ransack Cringle’s place brings him more than he bargained when he drinks a magical bottle of wine that brings him the gift of a lifetime.

The steamy love scenes rode the edge, dipping into dubious consent which drew me from the story. So if that makes you squirm I’d steer clear. The unique set up Ms. Burke presented was enchanting, and fresh. I enjoyed my brief glimpse into her world, and I’m longing for more.
