I read this over twenty years ago, but I still remembered quite a bit about the plot and characters. That's always a good sign.

Very engaging. I wish that I had read this with my niece. (K - I'm referring to you.)

The dedication: To the Soup of the Day

The story begins ...
Papeek was thirteen. Among his people, the Eskimos of Alaska, he was almost a man. "He can help you hunt the caribou this winter," he overheard one of his father's friends say one day.

An author's note would have been appreciated.

Warning: This makes it sound as if it's fairly easy to tame a wolf.
