Life was getting stranger instead of easier. Not only was Marcie Montgomery still craving tacos - and any kind of cheesecake - now she was lusting after her knight in confusing armor. Plus, she knew her dog wasn’t exactly a dog.
Witches and explosions, a murderous mother escaped from jail, half-mad members of human-only groups, the evil Niccolo Maddock, and the gynecologist from hell all add up to make Marcie’s life just like the Chinese curse: it is better to live as a rat in a cage of cats than it is to be a vampire anywhere.
I’m a writer who’s been privileged to have attained the New York Times and USA Today Bestseller Lists.
Although I've primarily written historical romance, I've also written contemporary romantic suspense, a murder mystery, and I'm having a wonderful time writing about a vampire who is being challenged by her new state of being. (The Montgomery Chronicles: The Fertile Vampire and The Reluctant Goddess coming March 12, 2015.)
I believe in the power of the individual, the magnificence of the human spirit, and always looking for the positive in any situation. I write about people who have been challenged by life itself but who win in the end.
This was a great addition to The Montgomery Chronicles series! The author brings an exciting, unique twist to the vampire genre. It’s always refreshing to read something new involving the vampire genre when there is so much similarity out there right now.
The Reluctant Goddess is filled with twists, action, romance and great characters! It was nice reunite with the characters from the first book: Mutt (aka Charlie now), Dan, Mike and Kenisha. A surprise character comes back into the mix, which is exciting! The only downside to the book to me was that there wasn’t much of a plot. It felt like a continuation of the first book, but that didn’t bother me.
Overall, it’s still a great read, and I highly enjoyed it. If you loved the first book, then you’ll love the second one!
I liked this book (& the previous one) and they are quick reads. However, it ended in a major cliffhanger (to the point where the story seemed incomplete) and that is just annoying. The first book did that also, but this one was worse (a much bigger surprise). Of course, I'll get the next book (b/c I did enjoy it) but I'm hoping the author doesn't make it another half-finished story/cliffhanger from hell.
it's a great series, not as funny as I'd like or others in this category, but great nonetheless. they all end in a cliffhanger, not a problem when you're at the beginning, but when the next book hasn't been published yet, I'll be annoyed. if you like Robyn Peterman's vampire series, you'll like this (although Peterman is hilarious, this is just entertaining; they're both fun reads with unique characters and plots...
Karen really knows how to engage her readers and keep them wanting more! I have read this entire series and I love it! I wish she would add more to the series! If you love this series, you'll also love her furry chronicles!
"The Reluctant Goddess" by Karen Ranney takes off from where we left off. Marcie Montgomery is a very special vampire. She walk in the sun, eats, and can breed. These qualities are very attractive to normal vampires who would love to use Marcie as a lab rat or a breeding mare to find a way to do the same thing. Marcie has to figure out exactly what she is, how to protect herself, meanwhile she's also desperate to keep a sense of autonomy. The last thing Marcie wants, besides being pregnant by a certain vampire, is to be dependent on Dan. Which is nice since she could have easily allowed him to handle everything that happens to her. Overall, I loved this novel. It was a great follow up and it kept me interested. Yes, at times her internal monologue was a bit repetitive, but besides that it was great. What I also liked about this novel was that many of the conclusions that I came up at the end of the last one were tossed on their head. And even if you haven't read the last story, you won't be lost. Ranney makes sure that the reader has a clear picture in their heads about what has already happened along with connected those actions with their consequences. I look forward to reading the next novel and finding out which direction Ranney takes the bombshell from the end of the novel.
Well a lot happened in this book but not as much as I wanted. There are still so many unanswered questions and I want some answers damnit. Marcie goes to get answers but she always stops short of getting a full explanation. She gets overwhelmed and backs off and I just want to know more. Marcie got to kick some Maddock butt and the ending left me wanting more. Still Marcie isn't my favorite heroine, I wish she'd get on the ball and learn more. She always seems to get caught up in her emotions and I wish she'd be more proactive instead of letting Dan take care of things. Oddly enough she gets annoyed when he does but doesn't seem to do much about it, except attacking him once. 3.5/5
Different! This is #2 in the series about Marcie's life. She isn't your normal vampire and she is being hunted by various groups for various reasons. Poor Marcie doesn't know who to trust. She is learning her new powers while questioning everything about herself and life around her!
While I know I personally want a happy ending, I am just not so sure how everyone can end up that way; but we'll see. Looking forward to book 3
Okay. I really liked this one. I hope book three is out soon. I kind of knew where the book would hang at the end but the unfolding of the story managed to leave me hanging in a decent place. Maybe not the best of its kind, but it kept me invested in the read (which has been a problem for me lately) and it is neither over sexed nor sugar coated with innocence. A worthy read in my book.
Holy twisted roller coaster of lust and deceit!! I still do t know if I like Marcie or not. She's stronger and somewhat standing on her own, but holy mole, how much crap can one woman take before she decided to roll over and say forget it? The cliffhanger made me cuss the author to high heaven! Overall great read and very engaging, but that doesn't stop me from hating cliffhangers.
This is a nice, new twist on supernaturals. Her life is unraveling one paragraph at a time and just when Marcie has something figured out she discovers it's more then she realized. I'm loving her friendship with Charlie. I can't wait to see how that plays out.
Not exactly a page Turner, but a good book overall. I know certain things aren't divulged so you read the next book, but she needs to explain some stuff better. Maybe it's just my impatience....
I liked the book, but that's about all. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it. Parts of it annoyed me, if you read the first one it's more of the same. Marcy isn't my favorite.
Not especially good but fun story. Semi interesting characters. Needs more detail. Skips around a little too much when the heroine is figuring things out.
