An obligation is a course of action that someone is required to take, whether legal or moral.
At six years old, Myla was sent to a family her father and mother had chosen for her when they knew their time on earth was almost up. What they were unaware of was what they thought would be her safe haven would become her living hell.
Kai has been watching Myla from afar since he took over the family business from his father and inherited the responsibility of keeping her safe. When word gets back to Kai that Myla is not only in danger, but that his assets are being compromised, he immediately jumps into action and does the only thing that can be done at the time by marrying her.
Neither Myla nor Kai would have thought that something that started off as a farce would become the most important thing either of them could've ever done.

Okay, this one just has to be me because otherwise all I can think is...What in the actual fuck are my friends reading and 4/5 starring that I'm missing here?
Because surely it's not the same book I'm reading. I definitely missed the train for sure on this one.
*I'm the one who can't fly today, obviously.*
And being that we've established that it's just me...take this whole review with a grain of salt...because lots of my very trustworthy friends enjoyed this book.
Disclaimers aside...on to my "review..."
I would be diplomatic and kind and take the high road...
...But that just wouldn't be me now would it.
This was bad. Bad, bad, bad.
No. No, I'm not Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius, father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife.
Because, seriously, at 50% I feel like this book has NO actual point.
NOTHING is happening.
And yet, I still have NO fucking idea what's going on.
Supposedly Kai and Myla knew each other as kids. For like, one hot second.
But they never really talk about it and - when the book opens and they have supposedly gotten married the night before - Myla straight up says (during some of her vapidly boring inner dialogue) that she had never met Kai until the previous day.
Speaking of Myla.
She seems to have no fucking clue what's going on either...but doesn't seem all that motivated to find out - despite the fact that it's her life that's supposedly at stake here.
And she doesn't even press Kai for information or details.
Of any kind.
About anything.

"You'll see. (Kai)
"'Why is this happening...?'
'There is so much you don't know, Myla.'
'Like what?' I whisper.
'When the time is right, I will tell you.'"
"What did you pick?" (Myla)

I look at Kai and try to understand what's going on, and he just shakes his head."
A more flat bunch of completely uninteresting characters I have not met.
But usually, even if I can't count on Reynolds to supply a scintillating plot line, I can at least expect her to put out some titillating sex.
But, alas, some titillating sex was just not to be had.
But the last rail bump resulting in the final collapse of this train wreck?
For the entire book, Kai calls Myla his makamae.
And for the entire book Myla asks Kai what that means. He basically says he will tell her someday...or as I like to call it, yet another form of "You'll see."
And when he finally tells her?

Sometimes, the things that seem the most difficult end up being the most extraordinary.
It's no secret that Aurora Rose Reynolds books are a guilty pleasure of mine. They may not always be perfect, but for some reason that I can't even explain, they just hit the spot for me. I'm not sure I can tell you any other author that can pull off insta-love, OTT alphas, and a little cheese thrown in and make it into a book that will leave you with a goofy smile on your face while reading it. But this woman does it and I think Obligation may have been her best book yet.
If you've read Assumption, then you'll remember Kai as Kenton's friend and the sexy bad ass. You'll also remember the little shocker he threw at everyone where he revealed that he was married. But while you knew who he was married to, you don't know the how's, the why's, or who Myla actually is. This book will give you that.
Myla and Kai knew each other as children. But when Myla was just a little girl, she was forced to leave her loving parents and her home because of a situation she never knew the full details to. Her parents thought that they were giving her to a safer place and loving arms. But her new haven also turned out to be her hell because of a person she last expected. At the first opportunity she got, Myla took off to start a new life for herself. But now her past is catching up with her and her life is in danger, and only the boy from her past that first swore to protect her can do it now. Kai will do anything to protect, even marry her. But while their vows may have been made with an ulterior motive, their feelings for each other are anything but fake.
While in any other book it may have felt like Myla and Kai's relationship progressed too quickly, it wasn't the case here. I really loved these two together. Kai was just this perfect combination of softie when it comes to Myla and badass when it comes to protecting her. I know there's lots of authors out there that have attempted to emulate that Kristen Ashley vibe, and I think Aurora has definitely found that perfect formula in her books. She gives you that KA vibe but in her own voice and with her own recipe. It just works and I was eating it right up.
She was my peace in a world I knew was fucked up beyond most people's understanding.
This book was great from start to finish. There was a little angst, a lot of sexy, and even a little bit of cheese. But together it all just worked.
Myla was a great heroine. She had this vulnerability to her that made you see why she brought out Kai's protective instincts out, but she also had a backbone without being too OTT about it. There are some time jumps through the chapter which typically wouldn't work for me either. But once again, it just worked here. I really found the pacing to be good, even though it did progress quickly.
Kai and Myla are my favorite couple of ARR to date, and this is definitely my favorite book by her. Although I have a feeling that Sven will soon be replacing Kai for me :)
If you've enjoyed Aurora's other books, then you will absolutely love this one. If you felt a little underwhelmed by the first book in this series, then this one will definitely make up for it. It was sexy, entertaining, sweet and perfectly fluffy with just a touch of edge. A perfect afternoon read.

Honestly it wasn't exactly what I expected however I really enjoyed it!!!It was absolutely fantastic!!!I loved the story and the characters were amazing!!!Kai definitely become one of my favorite book boyfriends!!!He is so alpha male..and the fact that I have in my mind Jason Momoa while I read the book...make me love him even more.This story was sweet,funny,hot and intense.

Oh my god..this couple..I felt the connection between Myla and Kai very soon!They were perfect for eachother!Myla is sweet,cute,shy and funny!Kai my man...He is protective,loyal,strong,hot and he cares so much for Myla!!He wants to keep her safe.There were so beautiful moments between them and so many quotes that I marked while I read this book... Their story is so beautiful and I'm thinking to re-read the book soon!!
Aurora Rose Reynolds did a great job.I love her writing and can't wait to read more books from her.The book was amazing full of love,passion,funny moments and pain...This book can be read as a standalone!!If you enjoy hot Alpha male who are also so sweet then this book is for you!!!I highly recommend it!!

3 “Just Married” Stars.
Myla and Kai knew each other when they were kids, but life got in the way and they only meet again a lot of years later.
Ironically, is when Myla’s in danger and Kai jumps in to protect. Until he decided that the best way to protect her is by them getting married.
When the fake marriage starts to look very real both of their perception about their arrangement starts to change. And when Myla’s past threatens to catch her once more, Kai realizes how much he want this fake arrangement t become a real once. But for that he has to save her first.
Let me start by saying that Aurora Rose Reynold’s books are always one of my favorite guilty-pleasures. I read all their books right when she releases them because I love her ability to write a sweet and steamy story with amazing alpha-males.
For some reason, this book didn’t work for me like the rest of her books. I felt like it was a little over the top with all the drama, and secrets and with some scenes that in my opinion, were unnecessary to the story.
The writing is good, the whole “fake marriage” plot had a lot of potential but for me the story moved so fast that I couldn’t feel connected with it. And that’s saying something considering that normally this author’s couples move at the speed of light.
But despite this not being my favorite book of hers, I still intend to read all her books to have my badass-fix.
Rating: 4 Stars.
Characters Development: I normally love Aurora’s alpha-males but this time, Kai, despite being a sexy one, sometimes he was also way over the top. I liked him, but I didn’t loved it. Myla was sweet and nice, but she was just… there. She had the “lack of personality” syndrome- She wasn’t bad, but she also won’t be joining my “unforgettable heroines” list. The best part of this book was see more of Kenton and Justin ad the sneak-peak at Sven’s story that left me very curious.

Obligation is the second book in Aurora Rose Reynold’s Underground Kings series. These books are a little more gritty, with heroes more dangerous than her other books. If you read book one in the series (this can be read as a standalone imo) you will remember Kai as Kenton’s friend. Kai’s story starts with a bang. And a marriage.
A quick Vegas wedding with a man Myla doesn’t remember knowing as a child is not what she expected when her day began. Myla’s life changes drastically in a very short span. Kai is a man who changes everything. He rescues her, marries her (for her safety of course) and she finds out that she knew him as a child and he’s been keeping his eye on her, protecting her. It’s a lot to take in.
Kai has always wanted to make sure Myla was protected. Now that she’s his wife, that desire has only grown. He never imagined he would actually be married to her, and since they have to pretend for it to be real anyway, they figure might as well make a go of it.
ARR books are known for their steam. She did not disappoint when it came to bringing the heat. Kai was HOT. And Kai and Myla were hot together! Her heroes always have this badass, protective manor about them. And Kai even more so. His moral compass doesn’t point as far north as some heroes, so he’s even more tough. He will do anything to keep his woman safe. Anything. I do love my heroes like that. The ones that are scary and dangerous to everyone except the women they love.
This was a fast paced, sexy and suspenseful story. It took me a while to really figure out what was going on. Everything was happening so fast. But when the entire story came together, things really started to click. I liked both of the main characters and the epilogue was fantastic. After reading the sneak peak into Sven and Maggie’s story, I’m dying to read the next installment of the Underground Kings!

Aurora Rose Reynolds is hands down without adoubt one of my favourite authors! My level of excitement is unattainable when it comes to new releases by her. I FINALLY got to read this "insertWORDhere" novel. Words can't do this one justice .. I swear WOW. I can honestly say I wouldn't change a THING. The story was incredible sweet from the beginning. I fell in love with Kai from the beginning .. an absolute sweetheart. With that being said, Kai is only like that with loved ones otherwise he's all badass and protects them no matter what the circumstance. If I ended up in Hawaii being married to Kai .. I know my life would be SET. I've visited Hawaii before and I can honestly say it's one of the most romantic places I've been too which is why it made a PERFECT location for the novel. Actually .. anywhere in the world would suffice if I had Kai by my side. He is EXACTLY what Myla needs. My heart broke for her .. she is so INCREDIBLY strong. It wasn't lengthy thus I know it will be my go to "RE-READ". Another thing I absolutely LOVED. The language .. the Russian words along with the Hawaiian (SWOON). I HIGHLY recommend this one as well as this author's work (YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED)! PLEASE .. please don't make we wait long for next one in this series.

From the outside looking in Myla’s life resembles a story book. She is the daughter of two happily married parents, has two loving brothers, and is a successful business owner, but looks can be deceiving. What many don’t know is her biological parents are deceased and she is living with her aunt and uncle. They don’t see that her relationship with her brothers isn’t what it seems, for various reasons. They don’t realize what a big deal it is for her to have a successful business since she left home the first chance she got.
Despite all of her hardwork and success everything changes in the blink of an eye for Myla. One minutes she is a single woman running a business, the next she is married living in Hawaii. Kai has been watching Myla and protecting her from afar since he inherited his family's business. As threats began to escalate he had no choice but to step in and take things to the next level. Kai decides the best way to protect Myla is for the two of them to get married.
It is obvious in the beginning that while there is an attraction between these two, there isn’t much more. Little do they know that over time what started out as an obligation will end up being their greatest choice.
"I’m just as surprised by what happened as you are. But I don’t regret it. I don’t regret anything that has happened between us.”
Kai and Myla’s story definitely exceeded my expectations. First, Myla is such a strong willed person, but was able to put her trust in Kai. I love that despite her strength and fighter type personality she went with her gut. Kai, now let’s be honest he is very easy to love. Don’t get me wrong he isn’t perfect and makes mistakes, but my love for his OTT alpha tendencies allowed me to forgive him pretty easily.
We all know I am a sucker for romance, but I also love when there is an element of mystery and suspense. Obligation is definitely that type of book. We have the obvious story between Kai and Myla, which I thoroughly enjoyed, but we also have the suspense of the outside forces trying to hurt them. I enjoyed that aspect of the story and while the plot may have been a little unbelievable that is what I read fiction. I like escaping into another world. My only real complaint with this story is how fast it moved, despite this being a shorter novel it felt long at times. Of course I would have loved to have seen more of Kai and Myla together, but I am just being greedy.
In the end, I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it if you are a fan of over the top alphas, romantic suspense, and sexy as sin reads.

I really enjoyed AAR’s latest offering and I have to say, I loved the unexpectedness of what I had originally expected. Does that make sense?
Well, let's see.
I didn't expect to jump straight into the story but I must say I'm glad it did. Besides the prologue the story kicks off the morning after the wedding. As a reader I felt as though I was experiencing the emotions along with Myla. Although she wasn't a weak character, I became quite protective of her, sentiments also felt by Kai. He was a wonderful hero, I admired how unashamed he was a his desire for Myla and how he wasn't afraid to express it.
I didn't expect the plot to take a backseat to how much I loved this couple. Is this a bad thing? No. The story was well written and had substance, it just so happens that ARR created a couple that were so darn well suited, I would have been happy for a lot more screen time with them but that's just me being greedy.
I also didn't expect it to be so easy between them. Of course there was angst and drama but it was the romance and sweetness that was a real highlight for me. Kai was the right amount of possessive, his intentions to keep his promise most foremost and Myla, although more of an introverted character blossomed as time went on.
This may have started out as a marriage borne out of Obligation but it definitely resulted in one of the most sweetest unions ever.

I think that Aurora Rose Reynolds can write some seriously fabulous heat! Wowza her men get sexier with each book...Kai is def one of the best!
That being said, this book is a bit difficult to review for me. This is one of those reads that starts by hooking you in the prologue then it kinda goes a bit awry. As I started reading this story of Kai, Hawaiian God and powerhouse and Myla, beautifully damaged straggler of sorts, I was a bit confused. In a quick recap, Kai and Myla are life long friends. Both come from "mafia" type lifestyles. Some tragedy, kinda unknown as to why, forces Myla into a new family as an orphan. She has a new life, away from Kai. Obviously life happens and not the best of circumstances... but the book opens and She is all grown up and married to Kai...HUH?
Yep...Kinda confused as the why and how, but it sets up a big "i want you" but "i shouldn't have you" kinda heat. Back and forth attraction...the marriage is fake...but the feelings are real. It is all a bit choppy. I really kinda felt like I was Myla in this book! She was in the dark ALOT and so was I!
So, while I Loved the heat and I loved Myla and Kai...I honestly have to say, I kinda just didn't follow along too well. I absolutely loved book 1 in this series and I kinda feel like this book started in the middle of a story. I don't know how Myla got to Kai, when they got married or who the hell was after her, but hey...it was HOT!
That being said, this book is a bit difficult to review for me. This is one of those reads that starts by hooking you in the prologue then it kinda goes a bit awry. As I started reading this story of Kai, Hawaiian God and powerhouse and Myla, beautifully damaged straggler of sorts, I was a bit confused. In a quick recap, Kai and Myla are life long friends. Both come from "mafia" type lifestyles. Some tragedy, kinda unknown as to why, forces Myla into a new family as an orphan. She has a new life, away from Kai. Obviously life happens and not the best of circumstances... but the book opens and She is all grown up and married to Kai...HUH?
Yep...Kinda confused as the why and how, but it sets up a big "i want you" but "i shouldn't have you" kinda heat. Back and forth attraction...the marriage is fake...but the feelings are real. It is all a bit choppy. I really kinda felt like I was Myla in this book! She was in the dark ALOT and so was I!
So, while I Loved the heat and I loved Myla and Kai...I honestly have to say, I kinda just didn't follow along too well. I absolutely loved book 1 in this series and I kinda feel like this book started in the middle of a story. I run hot and cold with ARR. I loved Until November and Until Nico but did not like Trevor and refused to give Cash the time of day. I liked the first book in this series, Assumption.
This book was so not like her previous books. There was ZERO connection to the hero. He might as well not been in the story. So much of it was told in Myla's head. And she was mostly BORING! Plus she hid her head in the sand so Kai totally got away with telling her NOTHING! The lack of communication was astounding. I mean seriously, this guys shows up out of the blue, marries you to "protect" you and then you discover and and his entire family know you and your deceased parents and you do not DEMAND answers?! Every time Kai said she needed to trust him I wanted to junk punch him! He was an ass!
He excused all of his silence and actions with the classic "I only know how to keep my own counsel" and "I will do what I have to do to protect you". Those earned him several more junk punches. Not from her of course! Because Myla was overcome by tingling down below so she completely lost her ability to stand up for herself.
Some of the cliche ploys for drama were terribly unoriginal. The classic I have to leave you to protect you followed by the unknowing "help" from the ex girlfriend. The bodyguard jealousy. So many cheap plot ploys I hope she had a ghost writer!
I started this on audio and switched to digital because I was worried the narrator was ruining it. Nope the book did that all to itself.

I liked Kai and Myla together, but I wish their relationship was developed more. I wanted to see their wedding and what went down. How did Kai talk Myla into getting married? The story begins the morning after, and I wish I knew why Myla accepted it so easily.
Speaking of Myla, she was rather bland. Just a frequently crying ball of acceptance. I think she grew a backbone for one scene, but other than that she just relished in being taken care of by Kai...which is fine, but I like my heroines with a little bit of sass.
Kai was your typical ARR alpha male....growly, protective, possessive, sweet and sexy. All I envisioned was Jason Momoa in a suit (since that's mostly what Kai wore)....so all was right in my world.
Most of the story takes place in Hawaii, and the setting added an even more romantic feel to the story. It's kinda hard not to fall in love on a Hawaiian beach, watching a sunset with a hot guy.
Overall, this ended up falling in the spectrum of what I've come to expect when I pick up an ARR book. A quick, enjoyable and entertaining read with a sexy alpha leading man, a nice mix of romance and sex and an epilogue that teeters on the edge of giving you a toothache from all the sweet. This was just the quick fix I needed.

Audiobook review. Myla was loved as a child. She had great parents, and when they were gone, was taken in by a couple who adored her. Not all was sunshine in her life, but she coped the best she could. Then, she is placed in danger.
Kai has been in the background for a while and swoops in to save the damsel. What starts off as an obligation, turns to more as he gets to know the little girl he once met. The intimacy and chemistry between the two was strong.
I liked Myla and Kai. However, their brief history was a missed opportunity in how the plot was executed. There was potential that went unfulfilled. What's more, we don't get answers about her past the could help reaffirm her present.
The narrators were strong but the male narrator, popular as he is, did not fit Kai's Hawaiian heritage. Safety: No others for either, despite some jealousies. Yes to rape and abuse.

I am really disappointed about this book.
I don’t know if it's just me but I was so often confused about what's going on. Not to mention that I didn't get the plot and the connection between the MC's was lacking.
I love ARR writing but I'm not sure what happened with this book.

Overall Opinion: This was better than I thought it would be. It wasn't really deep, but it was still enjoyable. I'm going to do the dreaded .75 rating again, because I don't quite feel like it was 4 stars but it was better than 3.5. I felt like I was missing a connection to the overall story. While I liked the characters, I didn't feel a personal connection to them or feel their connection to each other. It was kind of instalove, and this might be my biggest issue (because I usually struggle with it). It would be good for those readers looking for a book with a little suspense, some hot times, and a good HEA ending.
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Myla and Kai's story. Kai meets Myla when he finds her crying in a treehouse when they're kids. Kai promises to protect Myla, and takes his vow seriously. Years later, he saves her from a really bad situation and has her marry him to keep her protected (long story that I don't want to ruin). Soon the lie of it being a marriage of convenience changes into being something more. There are some sexy times, some sweet moments, some frustrating things happening, some suspenseful moments, and a few laugh out loud times...and they get their HEA ending.
POV: This alternated between Myla and Kai's POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Good. I didn't skim, and I felt like it flowed well.
Instalove: Kind of. I felt like there wasn't much development for their feelings, and this was probably my biggest complaint. It made me not fully feel their connection (except physically speaking).
H rating: 4 stars. Kai. One of my favorite characterizations for a H is the big brutish guy with the heart of gold and is a big softy for the h -- and he was just that. I just wish he communicated better at times. Oh, and I love his name ;)

I know a lot of readers liked this book but I could not get into it.
I almost gave up halfway...who knows it might get better...was my thought!!!
But no, it did not do it for me.

first off, i usually like this authors books. you know straight up what you're in for. she's good at those sexy ott alpha males, her books are quick and fun. i look at them as feel good books.
however, i was just not feeling the love for this one. it was so slow going for the first 55-65% and once it started to pick up, i'd already come to know myla our heroine, as boring and passive (not my kinda girl!) & look, even if her other books have at times lacked a little in plot, they have always made up for it in the smokin' hot chemistry and sexy times department but not here. where was the ott hot guy that i have come to know, love and expect? kai has had this air of mystery to him, he walks a shady line but he fell flat in his own book and where was the chemistry? i couldn't feel a connection to our couple and i honestly couldn't feel why they had a connection to eachother. the most boring heroine award goes to..
myla has so many questions she wants and needs answered but all kai ever tells her is 'you'll see..' 'soon..' it started pissing me off because with 70 pages to go from the end, i still had no idea when/what/why the underlying plot was even around. what was the plot?

Kai and Myla. I don’t remember much about them from the Until series. I don’t remember their children either but I loved their story. I wish that we could have learned more about her parents and why they were killed. I was hoping to learn more throughout the story but never did.
Although we never really learn what it is that Kai is doing, their relationship was amazing. I wish we could have learned also what happened with her bakery and why there was a fire and what was going on. There were far more questions left in this book then most that I’ve read.
I loved how Kai was taking care of her even as a wee little girl. It was so neat how long they knew each other and how long he was protecting her. That was the most important detail. Love was not lacking in their story or relationship. I loved picturing him apologizing to the dr. Hahahahaha.

After meeting Kai in the first book, I was really looking forward to his story. While it was good, it felt like it was missing a little something. A part of it may be that the beginning of this book felt like we jumped more into the middle of the story. I would have liked to have gotten more of the start of their relationship. Still a great couple though.

“I have always needed to protect you,”-Kai
I am not exactly sure how to clearly express my views on this read. I didn't hate it, I just didn't love it like I love all of her other books. At the beginning, I was truly enticed by the story and drawn in completely. Around 35%, I became completely lost. Although the romance was sweet, it was difficult to connect all of the dots. I absolutely adore this author. Her stylistic combination of "alpha male" and "instant love" equals "extra hot romance" has always worked out well for me in the past.
Kai is a hot Hawaiian living comfortably and working hard to protect his family. Our heroine describes him best!
"Since the moment I met Kai, I have felt some kind of strange pull towards him. But as much as he entices me, he scares me."-Myla
Myla is a family friend of Kai. We know that Kai met Myla when she was ten and he has always felt a desire to take care of her. Although Myla doesn't remember Kai, it is obvious that there is a deep connection between the two. With this past connection, it is easy to believe the fact that these two are falling for each other.
When the book begins, Kai has married Myla because he want to keep her protected. At first, Myla is awkard and thinks Kai is only doing it because he feel obligated to be with her. Myla is not a very strong heroine. She has been abused in her past and has a very low self esteem.
"I wish in that moment that I were someone worthy enough of someone like him."-Myla
Although the marriage is supposedly to protect her, Kai is not pretending and his quite happy to be with his new bride. Upon first glance, this book has all of the elements for an amazing read: Hawaii, hot guy, beautiful girl, looming danger, etc.! The possibilities are endless.
It was nice to see Myla and Kai come together. There were some tender moments and the bedroom scenes were smokin' hot!
The push and pull between Kai and Myla is both beautiful and exhausting. I did find the supporting characters (his parents and her adoptive parents) to be very endearing. It was nice to see Myla reconnect with her parents through Kai's Mom. I only wish she gained some self confidence and peace from within herself.
What went wrong? Although I truly loved the characters and the main plot had potential, the time lapses in the book were severe. Sometimes the locations were unclear. I also felt the plot lacked depth. I just didn’t know what was going on.
The only clear thing about this story was the beautiful love between Kai and Myla. It was steamy and it was beautiful! I truly adore this author. I will not hesitate to read more of her amazing work. So no love lost there! P.S. Did I tell you Kai is delicious?

When danger strikes, a very young Myla is shipped off to safety. A new family to love her and protect her...and hurt her. When Kai learns of the danger to Myla he knows what he has to do. What would bring her the greatest protection of all. His ring on her finger. But this isn’t just as simple as protection. Myla might not remember Kai, but he remembers her and he’s not willing to give up on his promise to keep her safe.
I have become accustomed to the type of hero that Ms. Reynolds gives us in her books, and I love it. I love the bruiting alpha-male, the hard and fast fall. The pushing, punishing and the no-holds-barred ways they go after what they want. Kai was no different. And although we met Kai originally in the Until Series, we only get a slight glimpse of Nico in passing (as this story overlaps with the timeframe of Until Nico). The focus of Kai’ story stays on point. We get a little taste of what is to come in the next book of the series (and I am so excited!) but ultimately you get a story that is solely focused on Kai and Myla.
I am a fan of this authors writing style and approach to her stories. I love that although we still get a great romance, there is always a touch of mystery/suspense tossed in that enhances the story. The two aspects of her writing are fluid and go hand in hand. Although I still love the Until Series and my boy, Asher... I have to say that Kai was all kinds of unexpected. I wasn’t sure if I was just more intrigued with him because of the secrecy of his character when we first met him in the prior books, but whatever it was – it turned completely into infatuation.
If you love a wonderfully written romance, don’t mind a bit of insta-love/lust and have a thing for heroes that may be all sorts of heartbreak on legs, but love hard... pick up this authors books. You will not be disappointed. I do although this series can be read without reading the Until Series, I do recommend meeting those boys first. But reading this series first, if you like a little darker touch to your romance won’t ruin the other series for you at all.

It wasn't love but it was definitely like. But Aurora is usually a hit or miss for me. This one fell in the middle.
For instance, I really liked Kai. Like my girl Mirjana, I kept seeing him as Jason Moma. So that definitely helped cause that man is all kinds of sexy. But my feelings for Myla are a bit mixed. I liked her sometimes, but most of the time she annoyed me. All the crying grated on my nerves. I can handle a crying emotional woman when the moment calls for it. But she cried A LOT. I know there are some women who are more sensitive than others. I know a few. One is my younger sister. But Myla cried over just about everything and it was just too much for me. So in the end I was more annoyed by her then anything. I needed her to be stronger and not lean on everyone so much and take more action with what was happening to her. She just kind of rolled over and let everything happen and let all the decisions be made for her. She didn't put up much of a fight for anything. It was disappointing.
I felt like I landed in the middle of a story that was already in progress. The characters didn't feel developed enough for me. There were a lot of scenes that I would have liked to have had played out instead of them just being mentioned that they had happened. Like when Kai rescued Myla. I would have liked to know what all went down before and after and have it from Kai's POV. Unfortunately we missed some good stuff that would have made this story feel more developed for me.
Aurora knows how to write a badass alpha. Unfortunately her heroines aren't always a win for me. But I still enjoy the stories she puts together. They're not boring and usually are quick brain numbing read for me.
I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a badass possessive alpha and doesn't mind a damsel in distress. Happy reading dolls! xx

I know there are some women who are more sensitive than others. I know a few. One is my younger sister. But Myla cried over just about everything and it was just too much for me. So in the end I was more annoyed by her then anything. I needed her to be stronger and not lean on everyone so much and take more action with what was happening to her. She just kind of rolled over and let everything happen and let all the decisions be made for her. She didn't put up much of a fight for anything. It was disappointing.
I felt like I landed in the middle of a story that was already in progress. The characters didn't feel developed enough for me. There were a lot of scenes that I would have liked to have had played out instead of them just being mentioned that they had happened. Like when Kai rescued Myla. I would have liked to know what all went down before and after and have it from Kai's POV. Unfortunately we missed some good stuff that would have made this story feel more developed for me.
Aurora knows how to write a badass alpha. Unfortunately her heroines aren't always a win for me. But I still enjoy the stories she puts together. They're not boring and usually are quick brain numbing read for me.
I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a badass possessive alpha and doesn't mind a damsel in distress. Happy reading dolls! xx

Obligation was one of those surprising unexpected reads for me that I happened to like and enjoy. In this second installment of The Underground Series, this book had drama, angst, suspense and romance all intertwined into the storyline. Though this book had drama unfolding for the hero and heroine, the main aspect that stood out for me the most was the sweetness and romance that was happening between Kai and Myla. As a reader, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the emotional and physical connection that was occurring between these two. While in the midst of danger lurking, Kai and Myla’s bond could not just be explained in words but something as a reader that you must experienced. Although there were some moments, I felt it was a bit too sweet at times, it just so happened it worked for these two. What started as a marriage of obligation blossomed into a marriage of pure love, sacrifices, and connection. Overall, this Obligation was a great addition to this series that is full of raw, grit, suspense, and romance.

OMG as soon as this book arrived on my kindle I had to drop everything I had planned for the day because obviously this was THE PRIORITY! I mean I have been dying for this book since I finished Assumption and after reading Obligation all I can say is bring Distraction on! I need it NOW!
Kai has made protecting Myla his mission since they were kids and first met. Move forward many years and Myla finds herself married to Kai in order to stay safe, a man she has not seen since she was a child and while for her this is a marriage of necessity it is clear from the beginning that for Kai this is real. His feeling for Myla are obvious from the first page even before anyone is willing to admit them.
Aurora has once again outdone herself and shown us all why loving an alpha is the only way to go. Kai is the ultimate Alpha for many reasons, he takes protectiveness to a whole new level, he knows what she needs and wants way before she realizes it, but more than anything because while it is so obvious that he is an alpha like no other he knows when for her sake to reel it in and be that sensitive man he needs him to be.
Kai is patient and kind to Myla but when it comes down to it he is sexy like no other. He knows how to throw his woman down and SHOW her what she wants. Now, don't let my review fool you, I LOVED Myla too but basically this is a love letter to Kai. He out shined everyone else in the book and left me panting that I want my own Hawaiian man, like now!
Aurora is one of those authors I can 1-click without ever having to look at a synopsis, reviews or even the price because I just know that I could never be disappointed by her. She gets that the world needs more Alpha men and strong willed women to drive them just a little insane! Thank You Aurora now hurry and write me Distraction because I a counting the days till it is here!

2.5 stars. I am a huge ARR fan. I have pretty much loved everything I've read by this author. That being said, this one just didn't really do it for me.
The things I did like:
1. The sex scenes were hot as always.
2. Uncle Frank was hilarious.
3. The epilogue was great as always.
The things I didn't really like:
1. I was lost throughout the entire story. I felt like someone dumped me in the middle of the book and said, catch up.
2. Myla was annoying to me due to her lack of personality.
3. Kai confused me with his trying to keep distance from Myla but also saying he knew she was His from the time they met at 10 years old (for like 5 minutes).
4. His ex Tammy that shows up in this story (who didn't cause any problems between the couple) isn't really explained. When they bump into her together somehow the h already knew their story but we as readers weren't privy to it and it just confused the hell out of me.
Now I didn't read the first book in this series yet and maybe that's the problem but usually this author's books can be read as standalone. That is either not the case with this one or parts of the story were missing from my copy. It just all felt a bit disjointed. That being said, ARR is still one of my absolute favorite authors and I will still read anything she writes.

As always...loved this one. I do have to say that Kenton is still my favorite, but Kai wasn't too bad either. I liked Myla but I agree with the people who are saying that she was nothing special. She didn't annoy, but she was just there and nothing more. There was nothing special about her...she was like a puppet. If I was her, I would have wanted to know more, but she just accepted everything. She had no personality at all. I hope Maggie in the next book will be a bit spunkier. Can't wait to read it. So far I love everything Aurora writes, so I'm really looking forward to the next one. Myla was a bit boring, Kai was hot as hell.

When Myla's adoptive brother shows up at her bakery years after she left the family with no contact, her bakery is set on fire and she winds up in Hawaii, married to a man who she doesn't know. All she knows is that he says he can protect her. That the only way for that to happen is to be married. Also that his family knew her real parents and when the time is right, he will reveal all.
Soon Myla is falling in love with Kai, the mysterious man that she married. She wants to know more about him. But an attempt on her life causes a break in their relationship. Trying to build back on that, she become very close to his family. His mother, who was her mother's best friend and can tell her stories about her parents, Pika and Aye, her bodyguards and Kai's crazy Uncle Frank.
There's love, and connection as well and danger and intrigue.
I had been waiting on a story about Kai since I first read about him in Until Trevor , but I was a little disappointed. I don't know if it was because I was expecting too much or because I had just read Assumption and loved it and Obligation was so very different in tone.
Don't get me wrong, there were elements that I loved, like that it ran parallel to Assumption and that we got more of Sven, who I believe story will be fun like Assumption was. I also thought some of the peripheral characters like Uncle Frank and Pika were great. I love that little bit of Justin .
Even though I didn't love this one as much, I still think Aurora Rose Reynolds is genius with these characters and storylines all intertwining. I want more and I want it NOW :D

I have read all of the Until series and both of the books in this series, so I think it's safe to say I enjoy this author. I pre-ordered this book, so on release day it was patiently waiting for me, then I started noticing meh reviews and decided I was in no hurry and would wait to jump in. I think the reason so many people had a hard time connecting to this book was because we are somewhat thrown into a story, mid story, when huge events have already unfolded. The tricky part with that is that it feels like you were supposed to know what the hell has happened, yet you don't! It made the first half of the book very confusing, at least for me. I did like both of the MC's and the story line is very interesting, once you realize you haven't missed something, it all starts to come together.
