Never Gonna Tell

My name is Reagan Wilcox: high school senior by day, kick-ass investigative journalist by night. I’ve always loved observing people—especially when they think no one is paying attention.

I thought I was ready to cover any story. Work any angle.

Nothing could have prepared me for what happened that night. I wasn’t ready for what I saw. And I certainly wasn’t ready for him.

I always knew I’d write the headlines. Now, I just might become one.

Never Gonna Tell was a really interesting story. Quite suspenseful, adventurous and mysterious with characters that I loved reading about. I loved the heroine, maybe because she reminded me of myself. I was always the shy and quiet type of girl. The invisible one. The type who hated school, not because I wasn't a good student, but because of the people I had to face there. The only thing that I disagreed about with Reagan is that there is Laster Holt is no way hotter than Damon Salvatore.

Reagan is a high school student with a dream to become a journalist one day. She wants to write in the school newspaper, but without funds and a breakthrough subject there's not a chance to succeed and get the scholarship she has been dreaming about.

"Journalism is my purpose. My happy place. My future... I want to be a serious journalist who uncovers corruption and secrets for the world to see."

She's the silent type of girl, with two besties sidekicks, her neighbour free spirit Kally and Charlie, a foster kid her parents decided to 'adopt' since they were little.

School is no easy on her, especially when she's forced to team with the mysterious hot but dangerous rumored guy, Marco. The rumours surrounding his family make Reagan want to keep her distance, but it feels that she can't escape him, ever since he met her at the gym class.

"Marco makes me nervous for two reasons: I enjoy my kneecaps in one piece and I'm afraid I'll start drooling if I look at him for much longer."

Reagan has found a really juicy subject and she's digging to find the truth, but while digging she came across something that put her life in danger.

"I won't write this headline. I'll become one."

I believe that if you love mystery & suspense and like YA stories, you should definitely give this a try. I don't remember disliking something. I loved the unexpected humor and the suspense had made lose my sleep. I couldn't stop reading, until it was almost 7am and it had been a long while since the last time a book made me lose my sleep and I'm so grateful for this. I freaking enjoyed this book! There was nothing I didn't like, so that's easily a 5 star from me!

Surprisingly good.

Never Gonna Tell is the type of book I'm sure my YA reader friends would surely enjoy. This is different from the normal YA suspense books that I usually read so I'm fucking happy I finished this. Despite my early misgiving about this (it's totally my fault and not the book), I would recommend this if you want to read something entertaining and quite suspenseful.

Thrilling and captivating..

What a thrilling suspenseful read!!!
From start to finish you are wrapped up in Reagan's life. A girl who likes to fly under the radar...hoping to write the next huge headline....this girl has a nose for weeding out secrets..
BUT....what she never thought was that she was going to be the one to have to keep a secret AND know that keeping it will be what saves her life..
Now...we all know keeping secrets usually doesn't play well...something is bound to happen to show that you know something...
So, what happens in Never Gonna Tell that has Reagan in a complete mess??
Ahhhh!!!! Sarah Ross did a brilliant job on writing such an intriguing suspenseful drama... I was biting my nails, holding my breath, DYING to know how everything would come together at the end...
And then we meet Marco...OMG...he is the bad boy...but when you really get to know him??? *sighs* WOW!! I am just swooning over him...
Man..I was on the edge of my seat with the awesomeness of this book...I highly recommend that you pick this one up and discover it for yourself!!!

Sarah Ross is quickly becoming a favorite author of mine when it comes to the YA genre. And most people know that YA is not a genre that I can easily get into. But I can honestly say that if it’s written by Sarah Ross, I will no doubt find myself being one of the first to read her books.

Never Gonna Tell is gripping story about high school teenager, Reagan. She is able to stay hidden amongst the rest of her peers because she isn’t the popular girl and doesn’t do anything to draw attention to herself. But she has this journalistic itch in her to always look beyond what you can see. Things are never what they seem and it’s with that thought, that gets Reagan into a predicament she never expected.

Marco is the bad boy who happens to be there when Reagan accidentally sees the crime. He is determined to keep Reagan safe, even from his own family.

The writing in this book keeps the whole story real. The intensity is just right and the twists and turns keep you turning the pages.

I love Reagan’s inner dialogue. She may seem like she’s got it together on the outside, but she still has all those fears and thoughts that all teenagers do. Her quick whit really humored. I loved her interactions with the other characters, especially Marco – it kept things light and not get to serious.

Sarah did a fantastic job with this book. Her writing is perfect for this genre and the story line. Nothing was out of place. The story flowed beautifully and kept me enthralled the whole way through

The reader plays detective right along with Reagan as she goes in search of that one story that will help get the newspaper at her high school back up and funded. But soon, thanks to her curiosity, she stumbles upon something bigger. And now she is smack dab in the middle of it with no way out. Reagan will have to learn to trust the enemy in order to find a way out of this mess before it is too late.

I love a good crime story every now and then. And NEVER GONNA TELL really hit the spot. Ross does another great job with writing a story that captures the reader and making it hard for them to put down the book. I actually put it down late the night I finished it...only to pick it back up again a few minutes later. Then read until I was done. I couldn't stand the suspense and had to find out what was about to happen at a very crucial time. These characters lives were literally hanging in the balance. Who cares if I had to get up extremely early the next day? I had to know!!

I definitely recommend this wonderful read and hope you will pick it up and give it a go! Suspenseful, thrilling and absolutely engaging! 4 Stars!

When I first started reading this story I struggled with the idea that none of what was happening would happen in real life. Then I remembered that this book isn't real life it's fiction and that I need to lighten up. Once I snapped out of my snobbish thoughts and tried to imagine myself as my 15 year old daughter reading this book, I really started to enjoy it.

The story is fast paced and well-written. I found myself cheering for Reagan and shaking my head at some of the decisions she made at the same time. I was a fan of Marco's from the very start and couldn't wait to see him redeem himself, though I still question if there was much to redeem at all. The secondary characters weren't really a focal point in the story but I learned enough about them that I'm sort of intrigued by at least Charlie and wouldn't mind reading more of his story.
If you like a good mafia suspense and enjoy a good YA (leaning NA) novel then I would recommend this in a heartbeat.

4 star, reviewed for hookedonbooks.

Regan Wilcox was a high school senior and she had one hell of a story to try and get her into the top journalism programme in the country. Although nothing could have prepared her for what happened that night ! Marco Calotta moved here from Chicago several years ago with his family for a fresh start, he ridiculously attractive but extremely dangerous.

Never gonna tell was a nice fast read, the plot was amazing and the story flowed well, i read it within a few hours because it is one of those unputdownable reads, if you know what i mean. The characters flowed well and were realistic in every sense. A very enjoyable book that i would 100% recommend.

4.5 stars!

You know a book is going to be amazing when it grabs your attention from the first page and never lets it go. That's what happened with Never Gonna Tell and it only got better with each page. Reagan is one tenacious teenager and she's got guts. I both admired and was terrified for her.

The story is told through Reagan's eyes. Reagan likes to be invisible. She's trying to find that one story that will help her make headlines, and being invisible helps. She wasn't planning on finding the scoop of her lifetime and fearing for her life all at the same time. It doesn't help that she's discovered by the one person she feels a modicum of attraction for. His reaction to finding her at the scene of the crime and everything that happens immediately after is nerve wracking. Is he there to protect her or kill her? I love how Ms. Ross kept both Reagan and I on our toes.

I was reading so fast, I didn't even notice how quickly the pages were flying by. I read this book nonstop, even while walking around in Target. I completely understood Reagan's dilemma. Did she do the right thing and tell someone, or did she stay silent to keep those around her safe? To make things worse it became clear that all of the police weren't on the up and up either, making coming forward and trusting the wrong person even more dangerous.

This has to be one of the best young adult suspense novels I've read. There are so many plot twists! I was really surprised when the book ended, just because I wasn't expecting it. All of Reagan's questions were answered and everyone was mostly safe. I was hoping for more. Hopefully Ms. Ross will keep writing about Reagan and her sleuthing/writing career. I'll also be keeping an eye out for what ever Sarah M. Ross writes next.

When going into Never Gonna Tell, I honestly knew nothing about the book. Nothing at all. It was one of those times that I went into the book blind. The opening scene is what had me hooked; it gripped me. I knew that i would be going for a crazy ride. Reagan wants to become an investigative journalist and by doing so, she needs to find a story worth writing about. The opportunity comes one night when Reagan witnesses something she shouldn't. But... It would probably be easier to keep quiet than tell for many reasons.

One being that what she witnessed that fateful night, had to do with the mysteriously hot and bad boy, Marco Calotta. Who has ties to the mob. In fact, it's rumored his family may be part of the mob. But hey, it's all just rumors...right? Marco and Reagan may be polar opposites but both of them together, they made a great team. Plus their chemistry was hot; as were some of the scorching hot sex scenes (well we never actually see them do the deed but they come pretty close!!). I thought that the book was classified as YA but I think it's should be for older teens and up.

The book started off so good but towards the middle I found it lacking and at times unrealistic. It still held my interest and of course I would fully recommend the story. I just feel that it lost the intensity that I loved in the beginning of the book. The characters are great, and the plot was interesting enough. This is a fast paced novel that will keep you on your toes despite some of the issues I had.

"Nothing but blackness surrounds me." That sentence gave me chills. Small, dark places have never been a favorite of mine and just reading that I knew something bad was happening. Reagan is your average teenage high school girl with a healthy dose of curiosity thrown in. She has the instincts of an investigative reporter, the only things she needs is "the" story that will secure her future in a choice college. When she stumbles on a scene right out of "The Godfather", she thinks she has that story.
Marco is the pretty bad boy of the school. Everyone tries to avoid him because of rumors that his family is in organized crime. Marco doesn't do anything to dis-spell these rumors, in fact, his attitude and brooding looks only add to his reputation. The night that Reagan finds her story, Marco happens to be present. Only with his aide is she able to escape detection from the family.
Unfortunately, her cover is blown. Marco kidnaps her and takes her away from her home in order to protect her. Can Reagan trust Marco and her growing feelings for him or is this just a trap? When the bad guys come calling, who is going to save who?
I absolutely loved this book. Sarah M. Ross does a fantastic job of drawing the reader and keeping their attention. Murder, mystery, suspense and young love all rolled up into one package to provide the reader everything they need for a great read, what more can you ask for?

I was provided an e-ARC of this novel by the author for an honest review.

Never Gonna Tell is the first book that I have read by Sarah M. Ross and I am seriously blown away with her ability to captivate me from the beginning in this great romantic-suspense, thriller! The way that the story delved into what is going on in the town and how this girl Reagan tries to put all the pieces together in the puzzle.

Reagan Wilcox has dreams and ambitions of being an investigative journalist. She soon starts investigating a young superstar athlete that has had a string of strange losses. Reagan wants to get to the bottom of what is behind these mysterious losses and she does not believe the excuses that he has told everyone else.

Reagan soon meets Marco Calotta the bad boy with amazing hair and dreamy blue eyes. She knows she should stay far away from him but how can you resist a hot bad boy.

One night what Reagan witnesses will change everything. Can she trust anyone? Can she trust Marco? Can she tell anyone what has happened or will it have to remain a secret for everyone's protection?

This was an amazing read that had me flying through the pages. I loved the suspense, and the relationships that I definitely hardcore swooned over. This book was a definite must read and I am giving it 5 out of 5 stars.

Me, oh my, where do I start?

Never Gonna Tell struck me as shades of Veronica Mars. Now, do not get me wrong....I am not saying that this book is the same as one of my fave TV shows. Not at all. But there were definitely elements (elements I LOVED in the show) that reminded me of that plucky high school PI.

Reagan is your average high school student, with one exception. She has a burning desire to become an investigative journalist. Unfortunately, her small town high school doesn't have the interest or the budget for a school paper. But Reagan doesn't give up. She still keeps her ear to the ground and investigates news, publishing a small newsletter anonymously in an effort to build student interest.

Until one night she witnesses a real crime, one that could lead to her death if she's discovered.

Throw in a hot bad boy named Marco, who's determined to keep Reagan from harm's way, and bad guys with ties to the mob and you have an action packed story that leaves you with a nice satisfied feeling when you're done.

*I would definitely class this book as NA, though, because there are some seriously hot 'almost sex' scenes that make me want to keep my daughter locked up until she's 30. Just FYI....

Never Gonna Tell is the first book I have read by Sarah M. Ross. I really enjoyed this faces paced suspense novel. This book is a standalone with no cliffhanger.

Reagan Wilcox is a high school senior who dreams about attending college for journalism. Even though her school doesn't have the funds for a newspaper she continues to dig up dirt on the people in town and write anonymous articles. One night on her way home she witnesses a crime and as much a she wants to write about it she knows that if she wants to live she must keep quiet. Will Reagan decide that this is the story that may get her into the school of her dreams and write about it or will she continue to keep quiet to protect her family?

Marco Calotta is a hot bad boy that also happens to be at the crime scene. He is there with the bad guys and happens to see Reagan hiding behind the dumpster. He knows that if word gets out the Reagan was a witness to the crime his mob family will end her life. Will Marco be able to protect Reagan or will his mob family figure out a way to get to her?

I loved all the twists and turns this story took. It had me on the edge of my seat from the very first page! I definitely recommend this book by Sarah M. Ross!!

Never Gonna Tell by Sarah M. Ross is thrilling and edgy. The action doesn't stop until the story is over, and you'll be entranced from start to finish. This was the perfect read to clean my reading palate because it was refreshingly unlike the typical books I read.

Reagan Wilcox is a high school senior with a passion for investigative journalism. She's like a modern day Veronica Mars. Did I mention that I LOVE Veronica Mars and instantly fell in love with this witty heroine. She isn't afraid to get her hands dirty in order to get the scoop. Reagan has easily blended in to her daily life, but loves the anonymity. She's sharp and intuitive but also had a side that is devoted and loyal to her friends and family.

While investigating her latest hunch, she stumbles into a shocking situation and suddenly finds herself at the center of danger. I can't reveal the goodies of this plot without divulging spoilers but I will say this -- there's a boy, a bad guy (or two), and an overload of suspense that will make your heart race. If you're looking for a suspenseful read that has just the right amount of romance, get swept away inNever Gonna Tell by Sarah M. Ross.

This was a well-written, fast paced suspense book that was full of twists and turns and it kept me engaged and reading to the very end, in one day.
Reagan is a shy and quiet girl, who blends in and rarely gets noticed. She's a people watcher and this makes her good at getting the story for the school paper. She just moved to a new school and the student body is full of stories, but those aren't the kind that interest her, especially when she's trying to get the newspaper up and running again by publishing articles anonymously.
Here she meets Marco, long haired, trouble making bad boy. Whose families reputation precedes him but he manages to make trouble all on his own. The sarcastic banter between these two was great!!
One night Reagan witnesses a crime. This could be "THE STORY" break she needs but writing it will put her and her family's safety in jeopardy.
Will Marco be able to protect her, from his own family.

I didn't like the idea of high schoolers reading Fifty but I'm sure it's true to life.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Good Start, but lacking in the middle...

So when the book started, I was really into it. It was engaging, and exciting, but then somewhere in the middle it kind of tapered out, and I found myself wanting to skim.

I also felt like this book good have really been elaborated. It seemed, at times, that the author could've included more details, especially when it came to character development. Sometimes, the characters were lacking, and it left me unsure on their feelings, personality, looks, etc.

I also didn't think there was enough suspense, especially given the drama. I think maybe if the author had fleshed the book out a little, that would be created.

But the storyline itself was still good, and I finished and would recommend to those that like this genre.

This was not really my genre, so I feel like I went into with some biased notions, but in the end, it was a well written novel. It was clear the author was very knowledgeable on the subject, and so the plot and storyline seemed very believable.

There was a lot of action, and I know this seems crazy, but at times it seemed like too much. Almost like overboard with the twists and turns. Although, i know a lot of readers really like that sort of thing.

All in all, this was a good read, and for those looking for action, plot twists, etc., I would definitely recommend.

You’re skillfully drawn by intrigue into the story from Sarah M. Ross dropping you into a black hole of despair at the get-go. Darkness fades away as the preceding series of events are then revealed.

Most notably a mutual attraction needing a chance to breathe for a relationship to develop. But futures being threatened make it a bit complicated. Death is a risk in the fight to survive.

All of the events beg the question, does a vow to Never Gonna Tell ever ensure safety?

This book was a pleasant surprise for me. It was the first book I have read by Sarah M. Ross, but it definitely will not be my last. I began knowing only it was YA Suspense but was immediately lured into the story. The book is told in first person POV with the heroine, Reagan Wilcox as narrator. The Prologue is intriguing, as Reagan is the middle of a dangerous situation. I had no idea how she arrived, nor how she was going to get herself out of the predicament.

I’m going to die tonight. I’m sure of that now. All because I made a vow I was never gonna tell.

After the brief opening, the book backtracks to reveal all the events leading up to the Prologue. Reagan is a snarky but lovable high school senior. She is an investigative journalist on the side and trying to revive the school newspaper. She is somewhat of an outcast and doesn’t really fit into her high school in small town Tennessee. She has a trusty sidekick of a best friend/foster brother, Charlie. I loved their connection immediately and found their banter to be endearing. She is also attracted to the school bad boy, Marco Calotta, who doesn’t seem to notice her existent. She and Marco lives are thrown into complete upheaval when they become involved in a story she is investigating. Despite the suspense element, there is a an intense connection with Reagan and Marco. I was swept up in their storyline even more than the mystery.

Staring up a him, I totally get why girls go for the bad boy now.

While not all the events are completely realistic, I still enjoyed this book immensely. Reagan has many characteristics of a Veronica Mars like person. She is witty and funny, without trying to be so. The entire book flowed well and was interesting from the first pages until the last. I was able to read it in one setting. I enjoyed the relationship with Reagan and her parents in addition to those with Marco and Charlie. It is refreshing to see a young strong heroine, who wants to help save people. Happily, the book has a complete ending and an epilogue. However, I certainly would not mind reading more adventures involving Reagan in the future. I have a feeling she’ll once again find herself with another mystery to unearth. I recommend this book to any mature YA fan looking for a little suspense and romance.

4.5 “You…intrigue me.” stars!

Never Gonna Tell was not one of my usual reads, but I very much enjoyed it!!! If you are a follower of mine, you know that I love romance, heat, drama, alpha men, and mystery. And this story has a couple of those things…romance and mystery. High school age characters and the talk of the mob drew me in when I was offered this ARC. To me, that was a very interesting mix. Plus, I have read Sarah’s writing before, and loved it 

“There are two things every student here at Jefferson High learns their first week: first, the “meat delight” on Fridays is just a mashed-up mix of whatever was left from Taco Tuesday and Hamburger Thursdays, and second, don’t mess with Marco Calotta.”

This story revolves around Raegan and Marco. Raegan being the student who likes to stay unknown, and Marco being the student that everyone is afraid of. Interesting mix, huh?!? There’s your romance aspect. And since these characters are only high school seniors, we have a small amount of heat, but not overdone. I actually thought it was perfect!! I could feel the attraction between the two, without it being overdone and unrealistic.

“This school was like a journalist’s wet dream.”

Now, back to the mystery part of it. Raegan aspires to be a journalist and is looking for the perfect story, when the perfect story finds her. But, it also could be the end of her!! All I have to say about that, is she is one tough cookie!!! The girl knows what she wants and she fights for it. I loved her spunk!! And I loved her friends. They weren’t the popular crowd but they were true to themselves and protective of each other.

“I have so many more important things to focus on: Charlie coming home, not flunking calculus, not getting whacked and ending up at the bottom of the river.”

I gotta say, I was skeptical at first when we were mixing high schoolers and mob activity, but the author did a great job with this story. It had the right amount of detail for me to get a good picture in my head, of the scenes, plus it flowed smoothly and at a quick enough pace that I didn’t get bored.

Even though this is not my usual read, I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend you all give it a try :)

It's books like this that made me fall in love with this genre. Never Gonna Tell by Sarah M. Ross was an intriguing and suspenseful story, and it was topped off with a little romance. A great recipe for the perfect YA book. I was thrown into a book filled with mystery, lies, and drama. There were the precise amounts of twist to keep me glued to the story until the very end.

Reagan is a high-school student with few friends. She is the girl who no one notices, and that's perfectly fine by her. She has a nose for mystery, and writes about what she uncovers. The town she lives in is like Pleasantville, but little does anyone know that there is crime going down under everyone's noses. Marco is the town's bad boy, and the one guy whom Reagan knows she should avoid. When He helps Reagan out of a tricky situation, she soon realizes that there is more to Marco. He cares for her and she quickly begins to have serious feelings for him. If only they both can make it through the school year intact! Danger lurks at every corner, and Marco seems to always be there to protect her. Can Reagan survive the cat and mouse game or will Marco be her ultimate distraction?

I used to love Nancy Drew, and Reagan could have given her a run for her money. She was smart and sly, and her humor was one of those things you gravitated to. Her character was flawless, except for her taste in guys. I'm not including Marco in that category because he was completely chivalrous towards her. He showed her ultimate kindness, and they connected through their light banter. It was fun to watch them navigate through this book. Plus they had some great sparks, the kind that makes you weak in the knees. It just makes me smile thinking about it.

This novel had so many different element's mystery, suspense, young love, friendship, and value. It was a great book to get lost in. I wished I would never of found my way out. If you are a lover of YA then this certainly is the book for you. Be sure to stick around for the epilogue, it was my favorite part of the book.

"I’m going to die tonight. I’m sure of that now. All because I vowed that I was never gonna tell." ~ Reagan

Yikes! Sarah M. Ross did a fantastic job of weaving a tale of suspense the kept me glued until the very last page. Although the story was a little YA as compared to what I usually read, it was done so well that I didn't care. All I wanted to know was how two seventeen year old kids were going to escape with their lives. This review will be vague as to not spoil any plot lines.

While she's still in high school, Reagan is looking to be a reporter for a big newspaper. Not just any reporter, an investigative reporter. One that is right in the middle of all the action. She is a plain girl (her words) and blends into her surroundings, another thing to help her with her future career. With both of her parents, a foster brother Charlie and best girl friend Kally, Reagan's life is pretty well rounded. She is on the look out for that next big story and ends up finding the one that just may be her last.

Witnessing something she never should have, Reagan is now in the game of her life, with players that mean business. She has one ally in all of this mess, one she isn't too sure about. All Reagan has to go on are rumors and hearsay about him.

"I hate that you’re afraid of me, and that you’ll never be able to look at me like you did last week. Because, trust me, I want that more than you could know.” ~Marco

“Your family doesn't define you. You define you. No matter where you come from you can direct your own future." ~ Reagan

Never Gonna Tell is well written and action packed from the first to the last page. Reagan is a smart girl and Sarah M. Ross did a great job balancing her wit with her vulnerability. Although afraid, this girl went after what she wanted, no matter what the consequences. At times you forgot she was only seventeen. Loved it!

There was a lot happening in Never Gonna Tell and at a pretty quick pace but I still found myself skimming the majority of the book. I never felt any fear or worry on the suspense side of the story and with what was going on I really wish I had. And as for the romance, I just couldn't get in to it. A lot of things just didn't feel fleshed out enough for me to invest in the story or characters.

Wow! What a thrilling story! I was hooked from the very beginning and the excitement just kept growing. I never knew what was gonna happen next and simply couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who likes an action-packed story with a little mystery thrown in!

Reagan is a quiet wanna be journalist at her high school, a pro at fading into the shadows. Marco is the school bad boy, the nephew to a dangerous man. When Reagan sees something she shouldn't her quiet life is flung into turmoil. I loved the dynamic between the characters and found myself gripped by the storyline. A well written YA novel with a fabulous plot.
