The Enlightened

Rate this book
From a USA Today bestselling author comes the exciting continuation of the Mind Dimensions series

Kidnapped. Consciousness expanded. And that was just the start of my day.

I always thought I was a nice enough guy. The kind who’d never want to commit murder.

Turns out I simply lacked incentive.

Some crimes can never be forgiven.

Dima Zales is a full-time science fiction and fantasy author residing in Palm Coast, Florida. Prior to becoming a writer, he worked in the software development industry in New York as both a programmer and an executive. From high-frequency trading software for big banks to mobile apps for popular magazines, Dima has done it all. In 2013, he left the software industry in order to concentrate on his writing career.

Dima holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from NYU and a dual undergraduate degree in Computer Science / Psychology from Brooklyn College. He also has a number of hobbies and interests, the most unusual of which might be professional-level mentalism. He simulates mind-reading on stage and close-up, and has done shows for corporations, wealthy individuals, and friends.

He is also into healthy eating and fitness, so he should live long enough to finish all the book projects he starts. In fact, he very much hopes to catch the technological advancements that might let him live forever (biologically or otherwise). Aside from that, he also enjoys learning about current and future technologies that might enhance our lives, including artificial intelligence, biofeedback, brain-to-computer interfaces, and brain-enhancing implants.

In addition to his own works, Dima has collaborated on a number of romance novels with his wife, Anna Zaires. The Krinar Chronicles, an erotic science fiction series, has been a bestseller in its categories and has been recognized by the likes of Marie Claire and Woman’s Day. If you like erotic romance with a unique plot, please feel free to check it out, especially since the first book in the series (Close Liaisons) is available for free everywhere. Keep in mind, though, Dima Zales's books are going to be much more PG 13 . . . at least that’s the plan for now.

Anna Zaires is the love of his life and a huge inspiration in every aspect of his writing. She definitely adds her magic touch to anything Dima creates, and the books would not be the same without her. Dima’s fans are strongly encouraged to learn more about Anna and her work at http://www.annazaires.com/

Man, I flew through this one :) This series just gets better with every book.
Secrets are unveiled and some questions solved, while opening a few more doors and an unexpected realization that I didn't see coming.

We learn some about 'the enlightened' here but you get the sense that information is still being held or misdirected. They don't see themselves as bad people but their attitude/arrogance got on my nerves, at one point I wanted to do this:

I applauded Darren for being able to keep a cooler head than I could have.

That all said, they are a fascinating part of the community and the Pusher/Guide side of this I hope we'll see in the next book or two.
(Actually a whole book just dedicated to that past would really be fascinating *hint hint hehe*)

One revelation about a certain someone blindsided me, and when you learn the depth of what he had done and was still doing

I felt so bad for the person of end of what he did.

We learn more of what happened with Darren's parents as well, and some awesomeness from Hillary and Thomas but I won't spoil it for ya ;-).

The ending had me delaying getting ready for work, racing through to see what would happen. The part where was not what I thought it was, but still interesting.

The loose part at the end .. more than slightly unsettling.

All in all, a great addition to the series and no complaints :) Other than twenty pages of book previews, which I skipped *shrugs*

this series has me super engaged, I just love it, I need to know what happens next, theyre so many plot twists in this one that I can wait.

I like how rich the story is while it keeps pretty real with the characters and the depiction of the situations seems to real that it made feel good or bad for them.

I really do like the style of Dima he knows how to keep you on track while detouring a little bit and surprises you with each line.

Im hoping to get until the end with series and know how this will end.

Wow.

Yes, that is how I started this review. Wow.

As soon as I finished the first book I devoured the second and third. I'm only holding off on the fourth because I don't want it all to end. As such, my review will cover the first three.

An utterly fantastic portrayal of the Sci-Fi physic powers trope. I was transfixed. The unique way in which our protagonists can wield their abilities is at once powerfully awe-inspiring whilst filled with risk and dangers.

Rather well-developed characters for such a fast-paced story. I became attached, and some losses were keenly felt. A minor flaw for me would be that sometimes events fell too neatly into place for our main protagonist. Other than that, I have no complaints.

The tale barely gives one time to catch one's breath, becoming bigger and bigger with more surprises and progressions.

I can only hope that whilst I hold off on book four for a short while, a fifth book may miraculously appear.

A rare 5-star rating from me.

Highly recommended.

After listening to the second book of the series (The Thought Pushers) I had no idea where it could lead from there, but The Enlightened hides quite a few surprises up its sleeves.

We will finally find out more about Darren's parents and what happened to them. We will learn that there is more to the Quiet then we knew, and we will get introduced to the Enlightened, another group of people with the ability to enter the Quiet.

As with previous books in the series there will be some unexpected twists. Darren will find out that the enemy is a lot closer to him then he expected, and he will also learn about the relatives he new nothing about. His relationship with Mira will progress further.

The second part of the book is filled with action, and once again I enjoyed the scenes where the Quiet is used for overcoming the obstacles in the real world. It is so well written you will not want to put the book down, especially since some new concepts of the Mind Dimensions are introduced. I can hardly wait for the fourth book which should give us more history of the Mind Dimensions and introduce us the Elders, guides who can spend lifetime in the Mind Dimension.

This is Mind Dimensions number three. I highly recommend reading The Thought Readers and The Thought Pushers [first]. The Time Stopper is terrific as well, but you can get by without it. There are two of groups of individuals that can experience life outside their body while time for other ceases to move. One of the groups can touch someone and read their thoughts, the other group can make suggestions to a person, guiding or pushing them into actions. In the first books Darren learns he is the son of a Reader and a Guide and how to use both abilities. There are hostilities between Readers and Pushers, factions in each that want to exterminate the other. Darren gets caught in the middle and with his new friends they are able to take down one of the ring leaders.

Our story begins with them in Miami escaping the dangers in New York. The vacation has been a week or two when Darren is kidnapped by Caleb and taken to the Enlightened, these are readers who want to breed more powerful readers. They force him into a joining, so that they can pick his brain and make sure he is trustworthy. This leads to an enlightened episode for Darren, a being warns him that his mom Lucy is in danger. So the first thing he has to do is escape these guys and get on the next flight to NY. He quickly learns who the Pusher was that helped Jacob and working with Jacob was just the tip of the iceberg with that guy.

Jam packed with almost continuous action, lots of reveals, plus rumors of a mind dimension within the mind dimension. What Darren calls level two of the Quiet. Loved the book, exhilarating reading. The writing was smooth and understandable, maybe the page layout was optimal, too. The book went really fast, I'm already a hundred pages into The Elders.

The Mind Dimensions Series (Book 0-4...meant to be read Book 1, then 0, then 2-4) -- Dima Zales

Happened upon this series as I was looking for books for my son to read. Everyone was absolutely raving about them and it's a bit sci-fi so thought he would be interested. However, I decided to read them first to ensure the content was appropriate. Good thing I did, because though most of it is very appropriate, there are a few scenes that get a bit graphic and we decided he is not quite ready for them. That being said...I can't wait until he is because they are superb!!! Couldn't put them down!!!

Ok...I have to be perfectly honest. The writing style really sucks at times. By this I mean that you feel like it was written by a high school student sometimes. However, if you can get past that, the story is amazing!! I couldn't get enough and was sad when it was over.

The basic premise is that there are two classes of humans in this world that us everyday people don't know about. They have special powers where they can stop time and live in what is called the Mind Dimension. How long they can do this depends upon their Depth or power limits. One class is called Readers. While in the Mind Dimension, they can read the minds of normal humans. Can you imagine the things you could do with this power??

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Less Mira!!! Hallelujah!!!

Look, I don't want to be such a hard-ass but I have some requirements for my romance couples and their individual parts and what's more, the more I like the MC, the more demanding I am of their love interest. And that was a big problem here.

Darren was great and I would still punch Mira in her bitchy face and would beg him to leave her.

A good couple, you see, it made out of two equal and equally impressive parts. They're partners. They may "clash" but they also push and pull each other in the best way, to be their best self, the most happy self. Mira's function in the relationship was not unlike that of a spoiled, homicidal 5 years old. Her moods often had to be endured, her whims indulged, no one liked her, her function was to be bloodthirsty for revenge than she stopped being even that and now she just exists, makes and occasional phone call that should be about caring but of course she only expresses care by being a bitch so I only felt the urge to punch her some more.

And I really detest dumb love -if I can't respect the love interest, it means the MC is not making smart choices so the LI is dumb which means their love is stupid and that just makes MC foolish and just creates conflict between us.

So, yes, less Mira = better.

💜Compliqué mais intéressant.

RAPPEL 3 PREMIERS LIVRES :

Halfway through the series and we're finally getting somewhere. This was my favorite book yet.

The last two books seemed to be mostly setup with little payoff. The Enlightened finally starts giving us some answers.

There's a couple interesting twists, one of which I saw coming, and the other which, retrospectively, I should have.

Darren is still his annoying self, and with each book my concern for his casual approach to Reading and particularly Pushing people grows.

Haven't you ever heard with great power comes great responsibility, Darren? Apparently not.

I am sufficiently engaged enough to follow through to the end, despite my reservations over the main character's...well, dubious character.

This series just keeps getting better and better! Any clunkiness that might have existed in the beginning is completely gone, and I'm sucked in to the point where I stayed up until 3am (don't tell my husband!) because I couldn't put it down. I'd made some predictions in my mind for what I expected to happen after the first couple of books, and I was right about a couple and SO wrong about others—and SO glad that I was, because what actually happened was better than my guess. (I love it when that happens!) I'm pretty deeply invested in the story and characters at this point—to the point where I bought the third and fourth books before I finished this one because I knew I wasn't going to want to stop. (And I was right. I had to finish them all before I could come back to review this one.)

Interesting, arresting and fun!!!

I am a new fan of sci-fi thrillers and it is totally due to Dima's and Anna's books!!!! As usual, they have written an engrossing, inventive story with well drawn out characters and unexpected plot twists. The book has lots of "edge of your seat", "I don't want to put it down" scenes so be sure you have time to read it once you start!!! I was almost late for work one morning b/c I couldn't stop reading!! The whole series is like that!! It is an exciting read! Definitely start at the beginning of the series if you have not already read it. Totally recommend thus book!!!

'Damn', is all I can say about this one...

This book really threw me for a loop with the unexpected plot twists and how it changes many things read from the previous books! All in all though, this is possibly the best entry in the series thus far, and I'll see if that point of view changes after reading the fourth book. On another note, this could certainly be developed into a live action television series or something. A full length feature film, not so much due to the trajectory of many characters and a lot of the story would be condensed or omitted all together. But a television series for sure could be implemented

Oh this is great story, much better than first two parts. It is fast paced, I finished most of it in night before I succumbed to sleep, couldn't put down. Well this is not as great a page turner as Jurassic Park or any of Michael Crichton novels, but it's on good side, it's definitely not bad. Lots of plot twists are pre-guessable. That about Tomas was not at all. However, the death of Darren's parents was. And it was bad. I feel for Darren. Well, thats what a good story does.
I liked it, and it's one of the better YA novels I've ever read, so no regret on starting this series at all.

This series gets better and better. I woke up early this morning and began reading until I was too exhausted to continue because it was 2 in the morning. The characters are so real in spite of their abilities. I can't wait to begin the last of the series The Elders. I can predict that they are not so happy with Darren, but his new ability will help him to contend with them though. In fact, he may learn then how to enter and exit dealing with them.

WOW!!! Be sure to read books 1 and 2 first!

The ways this story develops is fantastic. The non-stop action engenders non-stop discoveries. Darren and his growing circle of friends experience, discover, and deal with the "unbelievable" and the "unthinkable" hour after hour. The action takes place within 24 hours, but so much happens, I felt like a week had passed.
If you enjoyed or were intrigued by books 1 and 2, you HAVE TO READ this book. 😊👍

Slower with A lot More Details

This book answers so many questions about Darren and his biological family and dives much deeper into the characters development. A nice change of pace especially involving the romance and unexpected action sequences that occur (yes I'm a visual person) and the book raises yet another unanswered question, who is really behind the evil pushing.

I love how fast these are to zip through. Three books down and still really enjoying the series. It requires a fair amount of suspension of disbelief, but I haven’t yet rolled my eyes so we’re staying within tolerable limits of fiction.

Again the author picked up where the second book left off and that made me happy. I still wasn't surprised by the twists, I could sense they were coming by too much foreshadowing. Except for one twist towards the end. Overall, another fun read that led me to immediately start the Fourth book.

Fantastic and thought-provoking!

Really enjoyed this installment of the series. Provided much more intrigue to the world of the mind dimension. There’s always another level! Really impacted my thoughts on time and our reality. How so much can happen in only the blink of an eye. Looking forward to even more in book four.
