Whoo, honey…take me out of the oven and stick a fork in me because I AM DONE!! Paratrooper in a Pear tree is not flame retardant let me tell you that. Honey this book was on fire!!! Mr. Captain Scrumptious (my pet name for Sergeant Major Lincoln…I’m calling dibs yall) and Destiny/Sara lit it up!
Together they took that storm and gave it a middle finger salute because in that cabin it was 100+ degrees and rising. I highly recommend you guy and ladies check this book out. I don’t want to give too much away but you’ll love the story and the sex scenes will have you tingling in all the right places. I give these book 5+ divas and about a million luscious licks for its heat, its passion, and those wonderful characters! Reviewed by M.N. Mori DIVA RATING: 5 Divas HEAT RATING: Blaze
I think that this book is one of the worse I've ever read in my life. Bottom 10 definitely. OMG it was AWFUL. And the ironic thing is half of it was about a horrible romance author. Pot Kettle.
That took insta-love to the extremes. Talk of marriage hen they had known each other less than TWO days. She was in love with him after being physically in the same room after 3 or 4 days?
Then, worst of all, he called her "baby doll" or just baby. First, giving a nickname on day one, really?!? Like one of the first few things out of his mouth. Then, this book is only 302 pages. He called her baby or babydoll 215 times. WHAT the fuck?! Then it read like some religious nut trying to write an erotica. He'd be all "frick" this. It was odd and annoying.
It was bad. Stay away. If I hadn't needed a book with "tree" in the title, I wouldn't have made it past the first page.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. I rated it 5 out of 5 stars.

Destiny Driven has been sent to a remote cabin in Healy, Alaska by her employer, St. Paul Publishing, to add lots of spice to author Angel Robinson's new book. Determined to make Angel's book a success, Destiny is armed to the teeth with props to help her; a stack of porn videos, hand cuffs and whips. Sergeant Lincoln Chapman is on assignment to help with a huge fire in Denali National Park, however, his parachute doesn't open and he goes off course and happens to land in a pear tree close to the cabin Destiny's staying in.
Seeing a man hanging in a pear tree, Destiny rushes outside just as it starts to snow. She manages to get the unconscious, extremely heavy man out of the tree and into the cabin. While she's checking for serious injuries, he wakes up to see a beautiful woman leaning over him. Destiny, who strongly dislikes her name because she thinks it's a stripper name, goes by the name of Sara Parker.
The snow storm increases in intensity, and Destiny and Linc are forced to stay in the cabin until arrangements can be made with his fellow squad members. Sparks fly as the two come together in the best sex Destiny has ever had. It's not entirely smooth sailing as they get to know each, and discover past secrets. Will Destiny be able to get past Linc's past indiscretions?
I kinda started the Hades Squad series with the third book and after finishing it, I knew I wanted to read the entire series. Jianne Carlo has done a wonderful job in creating characters that are dimensional, full of emotion and are perfect for each other. The sex scenes are scorching hot and very well written. A Paratrooper In A Pear Tree is such a fun title. Lincoln is all alpha male, but he's also all about family, plus he likes to sing opera which helps soften his hulking exterior. One of the things I really liked about Linc is that when he falls for a woman, he falls completely and is very protective. Also, he's very sexy and has a 'I'm in control' attitude. In spite of Destiny's tough childhood, she's managed to be very independent and self reliant. I really admired the way she threw herself into her work, and was very good at editing.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading A Paratrooper In A Pear Tree; it has some wit and humor, a lot of sexual tension between the characters, secondary characters who fill in and add to the plot. Overall I felt the story was very believable, moved along nicely and had a few twists to keep the reader's attention. It was very difficult to put the book down. A little more drama between Destiny, and an ex boyfriend, would have made this book even more delicious. Ms. Carlo has written a great book that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone.
I really enjoyed this book. Jianne Carlo is a new author to me and I will be adding her books to my TBR list.
A Paratrooper in a Pear Tree starts off fast and does not slow down. We are introduced to Destiny (aka Sara Parker) who is in Alaska to edit a book that needs help. As she looks out the window watching the weather turn nasty a paratrooper drops from the sky into a Pear tree in front of the cabin she is staying in. Destiny rescues the unconscious paratrooper (Lincoln) from the tree and "drags" him into the cabin.
As bad weather continues they are stuck in the cabin for several days and the chemistry sizzles as they get to know each other.
The story centers around Destiny and Lincoln's relationship, however we also find side stories about mutual acquaintances, friends and enemies. Destiny has some history she needs to deal with and this makes her doubt her worthiness to Lincoln. He is such a sweetheart and you see the protectiveness come out as he tries to help her see that she is indeed a special person.
This is a fun book to read and the sexual chemistry is amazing, I am hoping that stories of some of The Hades Squad which are Lincoln's friends/colleagues will be next in Jianne's library of written books.
I really enjoyed this book. Chemistry between Linc and Destiny was pretty hot. I was expecting the book, based on the synopsis, to really focus on the attraction and relationship between Linc and Destiny. So, I was pleasantly surprised when there was more to the story for both characters. The sex scenes were hot, which is always a plus. Although, I wouldn't have minded if some of those scenarios that Linc was imagining actually had gotten played out in the book.
The ending wrapped things up pretty well, but I wouldn't have minded if a bit more detail about Destiny recovering her book was included. I certainly wouldn't mind getting a chance to catch up with these two in a book for one of Linc's paratrooper buddies.
I don't really believe in ripping apart a book I didn't like. I'll only explain my reasoning for my rating, and let you make up your own minds.
I was so looking forward to this book. I mean, come on, look at the cover...it’s practically lickable:)The main issue I had with this book is the fact that I didn't like the characters. That automatically makes it hard for me to enjoy any book. Linc was everything that I look for in an Alpha male. He was hot, smooth and incredibly protective. His banter with his colleagues, the Hades squad, was fun to read and I'm definitely looking forward to the next one:) Unfortunately, his reactions to Destiny were just unfathomable to me. Even in a Romance, I expect a little build up to the love, marriage and babies stuff. Unfortunately, Linc wasn't willing to allow me to savour the moments because he had decided that she was his to marry and impregnate quite early on in the book. It was too fast, and there was no rhyme or reason to his decision because he didn't know her.
Destiny was a myriad of contradictions and weird reactions. She kept blathering on about not being easy, yet was in bed with the strange Paratrooper, who landed in her pear tree, within 30 pages. She goes ballistic when she finds out he slept with someone she didn’t like years before they met, even going so far to hit him and start randomly crying! (His reasoning, for sleeping with said evil bint, was he was saving his friend from having to sleep with her....) Then whenever she falls out with him, which happens a lot, she suddenly forgives him without any explanation to the decision or the preceding thought processes. I just didn’t get a feel for her as a character, so was shut out of their story.
The smexy scenes were really quite hot. I enjoyed the variation that the writer created and this was the novels saving grace for me (although why, whenever the characters were aroused, their eyes crossed I don’t know). There were sexy underwear scenes, porn film re-enactments, saucy outfits...Let’s just say that there were many different fantasies played out here! This is an author who knows how to create a hot scene, and keep you interested throughout the book! Overall, it was a fabulous premise but I just couldn’t relate to the extreme reactions of the characters, which ruined the story. The sex scenes were awesome hence, I will read the next one to see if I like their pairing better.

"A Paratrooper In A Pear Tree" by Jianne Carlo was a 'hot' romantic read that once you got started you will be reading till the end to see where, how, when and who of it all this author will take the reader. I found 'A Paratrooper in A Pear Tree' a rather fast read. We find Destiny (aka Sara Parker) is in Alaska editing a book and the weather had turned rather nasty. When Destiny looks out of her window watching the blizzard and see a paratrooper 'drops from the sky into a Pear Tree' that is located right in from her the log cabin she is staying in. So, Destiny will rescue the unconscious paratrooper (Lincoln Chapman)from this situation ... dragging him into the cabin. The weather will continue to worsen and as the trooper gets better(health wise) things take a turn and things start to sizzle for these two. The story will take off around a relationship between these two people and this is where I say you must pick up this read to see what will come of this. Ms. Destiny was at times a piece of work, however Lincoln seemed so nice and protective as he tries to help her. This author did a wonderful job as she weaves humor throughout the story. The characters were all well developed and captivating. If you are looking for a really intriguing good romantic read you have come to the right place for "A Paratrooper in A Pear Tree" would be recommended to you.
I've recently become a fan of Jianne Carlo's books and now have everything she's written. This is the first Hades Squad book, and in it, a paratrooper lands in a pear tree during a blizzard on a mountain in Denali park!
Wait till you meet Master parachutist Lincoln Chapman, the paratrooper in a pear tree. He's an alpha to the max hero who loves and sings opera! So incongruous and so sexy. I really wanted him under my tree.
Then there's Destiny Driven (got to love how she names her characters - Linc is after Abraham Lincoln) - an editor who's trying to 'sex-up' a bitchy best selling author's latest release.
I won't' spoil the rest of the tale for you. Let's just say 70s porn DVDs, convent schoolgirl outfits, and a whole bunch of other sexy props come into play. As usual, Ms. Carlo keeps the humor level high, the pace fast, and I almost shed a tear at the ending.
The other members of the Hades Squad have names like Demon, Devil, Satan, and Lucifer, (Linc is Sinner). I was gratified to see that the second Hades Book, Lucifer's Choice, was released on December 21 - you can guess what's next on my TBR list.
This one's a keeper and one I know I'll re-read often.
I love this book. This is one of those books that I have read multiple times, and I love it every time. This isn’t the original review, I don’t know what happened to it. It has everything, a military alpha male, a curvy innocent, and high lust, and sweet sweet love! A perfect book that started a fabulous series!! Thinking about this book makes me want to read it again! ❤️ RR: 07/13/2019. 09/19/2019. 05/23/2020. 01/23/2021.
Great story, great dialogue, incredibly sexy hero, and I mean, just look at that cover! this was an extremely fun read, and I can't wait to get to the rest of the series!
I give it 3 and 1/2. The leading lady was a bit annoying, but I liked it enough to get the next book in the series to see if the author wrote a more likeable, to me, leading lady.
Ha! I had to read a romantic, sexy book for a challenge. This one even has a plot that's good and sexy scenes to go along with it. Note: I finished it in a day.
The story had such great potential—a hot military man literally falls out of the sky and into Destiny’s life just as she snowed in with a full pantry and a crapload of sex toys (for research, of course). With a name like Sinner, I expected our hero to be more surly, badass, maybe even a tad bit scary. I thought there would be more of a slow burn as the two got to know each other, before jumping right into bed.... but no, unfortunately none of those things were true. “Sinner” seemed to be a damn nice guy... which isn’t a bad thing necessarily, but just not what I was expecting, nor wanting. Destiny, as repressed as she is, has no problem jumping into bed with him quickly. And within like, a day of knowing each other, they seem to be planning a future. Sigh. I’m not really a fan of insta-love. So, sorry, but this one isn’t for me.
As a long-time vegetarian, I never want to read a sex scene involving eating ham out of pubic hair ever again. Because, seriously, 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Sinner is a strange book to rate or review. The writing is fluent, proficient, eloquent even. It's hard to overstate how rare that is in self-published books, particularly in this genre.
The problem is that I found both main characters nearly as revolting as the aforementioned ham scene. The woman... damn, someone needs some anger management classes. Adults throwing tantrums? Not cute.
As for the man... he's arrogant, commandeering, presumptuous, possessive, patronising, and has no real interest in the heroine's personality or future plans. He's effectively a bulldozer, waiting to smash through her life, only most bulldozers don't expect you to love deepthroat. Stick some ham on him and I'll puke everywhere, eloquent writing or not.
It was the perfect balance between romance and smut. You got to know and like the characters, but there wasn't a solid plot just a couple of mini ones. And lots of sex, lots.
This was a great read loved the story and characters a lot. It certainly has its steamy moments and those ones that make you laugh out loud in the middle of a line.
The book held my interest but wasn't my favorite. At times I had a hard time relating to the h. Going onto the next book in the series and hoping it is better because I purchased all 4 books in the series when they were on sale.
I started this new series from a new author, similar to other ways I find new authors. I usually find them through Instagram recommendation from other book lovers, or via a daily email that I get about free or discounted books on Sale. Sinner, the first book in The Hades Squad got my attention in one of my emails. It was a free Amazon book, and after reading the little description and seeing the Hot guy on the cover I gave it a chance.
This book is HOT! First you have a alpha male, who is military. He's a Navy Seal. He latterly falls out of the sky into a tree while, Bri is in Alaska attempting to edit a book with an Author she despises. This girl is a strong chick! And actually rescues the big strong seal out of the tree. I love that the characters are both strong individuals. They don't need each other, and while they fight their chemistry, they eventually fall into bed. Thanks in part to a blizzard that blows in fast and trap's them in this remote cabin with no power.
While they each have their own struggles to deal with, they attempt to work on these issue through the book, while figuring out their feelings for each other.
I really liked the fact that you have this big strong alpha man, who took such a possessive claim on the leading female character. It's almost the opposite of what life gives us, with men more afraid to commit and admit their feelings towards a women. Sinner is not afraid to admit to himself and her that he's head over heals for her!
The character development was great, you really got to know these two plus others within the Hades Squad which leads you up to other books in the series. This is also a story that has more then hot steamy sex scenes. This book actually has some mystery and intrigue that helps draw you into the story.
This book, and the other in the series could be stand alone books, but I recommend reading them in order. I highly recommend this book.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review.
The last thing Destiny Driven expected to see when she looked out the window of the remote Alaskan cabin was an unconscious man dangling from a parachute in her tree. Getting the big man down and dragging him into the cabin was no easy matter. But somehow she managed.
The last thing Lincoln Chapman, aka Sinner expected to see when he opened his eyes, was a smokin’ hot girl and with an abundance of sex toys scattered around. Who can blame a guy for jumping to the conclusions that he did!
Chapman, a Navy SEAL was deploying to a fire in the Alaskan wilderness when he had problems with his chute, causing him to land in the pear tree instead of the planned site with the rest of the Hades Squad.
Introducing herself by her professional name, Sara Parker, did little to convince the handsome man that she is not what she appears. That in fact the toys are there to help her edit a book. Sinner doesn’t believe a word she says. But before he can examine things more closely, he first has to deal with a few more pressing matters, like their loss of electricity and contacting the other members of the squad. Then he can deal with Sara/Destiny.
And deal with her he does. Sparks fly and the passion heats up as there two are drawn together. Linc knows from the start that Destiny is the girl for him, he just has to convince her. And she doesn’t make that easy.
All the men in the Hades Squad have worked together for a long time and the bond between them is strong. But Linc is equally committed to his family. And seeing him with his Mom and siblings, opens up Destiny’s heart.
Author Jianne Carlo write a book full of ‘sigh-worthy’ Alpha men and strong women. I enjoyed how well the secondary characters were fleshed out, leading the way for the next book in the series.

My Review: I have enjoyed Jianne's books in the past so I figured why not give this series a try. I did enjoy this book for the most part. Just the idea of Linc's deep voice gives me chills. Destiny/Sara on the other hand was just too dense to stand, how a character can be set up as intelligent yet still be dumb as a rock is beyond me. The story was also a little choppy, scenes would skip around (ie. the characters are situated in a way but suddenly they are positioned differently with no indication of the change), it just didn't have the flow I would prefer, it took me out of the story quite a bit as I would have to re-read a few paragraphs to make sure I didn't skip something. It was still a good, quick, steamy read to enjoy and I will certainly be looking for the rest of the Hades Squad series.
Destiny is in Alaska to edit a book that the sex scenes need spicing up and she has brought along 70's porno's and visual aids to help. As she is looking out the window watching a winter storm approach she see's a paratrooper in a Pear tree unconscious. Destiny rescues the unconscious paratrooper (Lincoln) from the tree and "drags" him into the cabin.
Lincoln Chapman deployed to fight a forest fire has a parachute problem and crash lands in a pear tree and wakes up to a very lush woman bending over him.. For which he quickly decides is the one.. And since they are now snowbound stuck in the cabin why not have lots of sex..
There are the secondary characters of Lincoln's his colleagues in what they call the Hades squad, who are looking to retire from the service and start there own security business. (peave - they all have weird handles - Devil and Lucifer and Demon)
There are also other subplots going on and Destiny's insecurities over Lincoln's past sexual partners.
I would have rated this book a 4 or 4.5s star if it wasnt for the god awful pet names. He calls her Baby Doll through the whole book - I was ready to slap him after about the 5th time. If you overlook all the pet names this was really good book (yes the romance is rushed but thats expected in these type of books)
I loved this story by Ms. Carlo. Linc known to his teammates is my new book boyfriend. He came, he saw, he conquered and I adored it! He saw in Destiny a woman that was keeping secrets and he was determined to uncover each and every one. He kept Destiny off balanced and I thoroughly enjoyed his methods. I loved how quickly he decided that Destiny was his future. Now he just needed to convince the skittish woman who grabbed his heart. I loved that Destiny didn't make it easy for him. It was obvious that Linc was used to easy conquest but Destiny made him work for it. The connection between them was hot almost from the get go but Destiny did not allowed that to sway her when Linc was in the wrong. And I adored that Linc's brother in arms were not only willing to take one for the team, but also to protect the woman that owned Linc's heart. The omradery between the members of the Hades Squad added an additional layer to this story. I found myself enjoying their off colored remarks as well as their loyalty. It added to our understanding to the type of man Linc is and I am so looking forward to seeing the rest of the Hades Squad find their happily ever after.
I never quite knew what to make of this book! I picked it up as a free e-book because I love books based in Alaska, and Destiny rescuing paratrooper Linc from a pear tree before they get trapped together in a snowstorm sounded intriguing. sadly, not that much of the book took place in Alaska, and it could have been any city with snow as they never left the cabin. The romance started out OK and the chemistry was hot, but the insta-love and extreme reactions of the characters seemed quite unrealistic. Linc acted live a caveman at times, and not in a good way!
This could have been a very nice novella, but the book just kept jumping around with weird plot turns once they left Alaska. My head was spinning with the quick transitions of POV and scenes; more chapters or page dividers were needed. The story had good potential but lacked editing, quite ironic when Destiny was a book editor! I enjoyed the ending and am glad I finished the book, but the quality of writing and editing makes me question whether I'll read more by this author.
