Megan Hamilton’s debut novel, Broken, is a captivating read. This book takes you on a thrill ride through the eyes of a teen girl, Cassandra, and her emotional turmoil, her first love, and the lengths she will go to preserve that love when it’s threatened. This coming of age story mixes darkness with humor. Megan Hamilton presents Cassandra’s story with nuance and skill as the girl’s story is told to her therapist, through diary entries, and also in Cassandra’s narration. Cassandra meets the boy of her dreams until it becomes the stuff of nightmares. Hamilton binds you emotionally to the characters until you are unable to put the book down. I found myself chewing on my lip as I turned the pages, dreading what would happen to the characters next. While there are a few, easily overlooked typos, they fall away in the face of such a compelling story. Hamilton has created an impressive first novel, and I’m very much looking forward to her next tale.

A compelling and honest look at someone descending into mental health issues. Tragic beautiful. I felt for Cassandra and wanted to protect her then I feared her. Adam...I loved him until I hated him and then I'm not sure how to feel.

I complex book where everyone has good and evil inside of them.

Warning this book could be a trigger for some.
