O'Rourke #3

Clone Drones

Rate this book
The O'Rourke team is at it again as they work against the clock to rescue one of their own. It seems the Mob didn't take too kindly to the O'Rourke team's involvement last spring that led to the indictment of their Mob boss. To complicate matters the team is called in to help solve a nationwide plot involving the assassinations of several U.S. Senators. Who is behind the horrific plan and why? Is it the militia? Terrorists? A homegrown wacko? CLONE DRONES weaves together a fascinating story that could be a part of the news in the near future.

Liked it

Though I started the third installment of the story, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Ryan O Rourke and his group are investigating assassinations in this story. The story moves to many places and I loved the character and story build up. Enjoyed it.

This is a well written story of intrigue that begins as one senator after another is murdered, and by drones no less, the fact that they are on the committee to limit gun control may have something to do with that. At the same time Ryan O'Rourke who has an investigations team has just found out his fiance is missing, The twists and turns continue as the reader is taken from one investigation to another is this thriller. I found the book interesting to read with a great writing style and believable characters. Although I haven't read the others in this series I think they would be worth looking into.

Siobhan is getting ready for her nuptials with Ryan. Tony has requested Rachel come to California to assist with a new case involving the BioTech firm they worked for last year. Everything is stretched thin at the O"Rourke Firm but still running fairly smooth. The hospital that Ryan helped with security is having issues again. This time it is money being stolen from accounts with no papertrail. Ryan takes Bill with him to get him up to speed on all the hospital's new security and to get him started on the thefts. When Ryan returns to the office, everything goes to hell. Siobhan has been kidnapped, the mob seems to be involved, there are Senators being killed despite security. Sam, from the FBI is called in to take charge. One head of the Wisconsin mob is in jail because of the drug thefts at the hospital, and he wants out at any cost. Ryan is beside himself and all he can think of is rescuing his fiance. Are the senator's deaths, the BioTech firms missing property related? The plot twists with every turn of the page. Will Siobhan be found in time? Will the Wisconsin mob boss stay in jail?

This series is so well written and the characters seem so real.

Loved the drone technology!
O'Rourke and his cronies solve another major case! I enjoyed following the many plot twists and turns, from the militia to the mob to drone killers.
I was given this book and asked for an honest review. The Carter writing team writes with authenticity, and it was fun "revisiting" Blue Ridge, Georgia and Copperhill, Tennessee and imagining the characters in this quaint part of the country.

This is the third time I have relaxed with the suspense and intrigue of the Carter's wonderful group of investigators, O'Rourke, his fiancee, Siobhan, and the rest of the team. This is certainly the best of the three books so far, the transitions are seamless and you feel like you are part of the story. This is the mark of truly gifted authors, the ability to make you care about their characters and what is happening to them. There are more twists and turns in this story than there were in the old Coney Island Fun House (yes I am that old and yes I have used that phrase in reviews before, when is well deserved). In all candor, I must admit that I have corresponded with the Carters, as a result of reading their books and I can tell you that they are genuine people who write great stories. I highly recommend this book, as well as the two earlier books, Bioprints and Flash Zombies (no, there are no dead people walking around) to everyone. With authors like the Carters, the future of Indie books is in good hands.

This was a GoodReads giveaway win.

My first impression is that the writing style reads like something I would write. Unfortunately, I think my fiction writing lacks polish and creativity. I just don't know how to communicate stories clearly, concisely, and naturally. The naturally portion is the hardest part. Nor do I know how to add that small twist to the story. I do applaud the Carters for pursuing their passion.

The dialog reads just too scripted. There is no natural dialog exchange between the characters.

The team leaders are just too into themselves. With the attitude they bring, they would never get any cooperation for the local police or other agencies. The FBI would have totally shut them down. They would have to be a step ahead of the FBI ALL the way, so that the Feds are only left trailing and clueless. I must have missed something important by not reading the previous books in this series.

There are some technical inaccurate situations that occur in the telling. For instance, you can't use an IR camera to take a photo of a sheet of paper in a dark room and expect to get a readable image. IR uses the InfraRed (temperature) frequencies and a printed page is flat and would look all the same color (it's all the same temperature). Perhaps that is too technical of an error. Correction, you could also use an IR transmitter and read the backscatter, but I'm not sure that would work. How about this. The silenced drones most annoying noise is the sound of the door opening and closing. (But even the best real world gun silencers make considerable noise.) I just wouldn't install a door on the drone in the first place.

Some editorial oversights that bothered me. The reference to events of 9/11 are always represented by the month separated from the day. Calling it 911 has me calling for emergency services. And you always represent gun round size as .40 caliber, not 40 caliber.

So, overlooking the writing style and getting to the plot. The main plot was okay, but the telling seemed to be rushed. Having the two simultaneous storylines running was more of a distraction than it was worth. The subplot was just not working for me. And could you have found two more stupid bad guys? For crying out loud, cover that unique tattoo! And if you steal someone's car while on the run, you better do a better job of quieting the owner of that car than knocking him out with a blow to the head. You already assassinated a Senator in the opening scene after all. Maybe I have been reading too many Jack Reacher novels of late?

I don't expect the O'Rourke team to be on my list of great stories. It was okay to read, but did not explore enough of a different perspective from the bad guy's motives to make them more interesting.

Have a GoodReads.

Crime Novels, Book 3 is a fast-paced and enjoyable thriller that blends
politics, high tech and organized crime. The authors are marvelous
storytellers who weave the various parts of this story into a smooth and flowing narrative. Siobhan is the consummate example of grace under
fire as she calmly and logically assesses her condition and works to free herself. Clone Drones also exposes the inherent risks of drone technology
as an effective assassination tool. There's a lot going on in this story so
readers must follow carefully lest they miss something. Clone Drones has
a bit of something for anyone who enjoys high-octane thrillers with nonstop
action and surprises, and it delivers. Clone Drones is recommended.
