Travis

“I’d rather hurt you this way than watch you wake up one morning, after losing everyone in your life, because you think your love for me means more than your loyalty to them.”

Sarah said this to me.

“I’m sorry.”

She said that, too.

Caught up in the inescapable pain of an unexpected loss, Sarah and I shared one unforgettable night together. The next morning, she made the decision to walk away from what could’ve been.

To her, we were a mistake.

To me, we were everything I never knew I needed.

~~~~~
Sarah
Those I’m closest to never understood me.
To them, my maddening character was nothing more than a ridiculous piece of my adolescence.
To me, it was the sad truth knowing I was never going to be an equal among them.
After my life was tragically ripped apart, the only person I believed accepted the real me, offered me the escape I was desperate for.
I refused to believe the night Travis and I shared would taint our friendship. I thought if I kept him at arm’s length and if I denied talking to him about what we’d done, my life would go back to what it was before.
To me, it was a lonely place in which I was used to being.
To him, it was the one place I never belonged.
It wasn’t only Ace who stood in the way of our happily-ever-after. The power of a person’s past has a way of risking their future.
Travis’s past jeopardized it all.
Better than a five emmy daytime soap opera award! Spoiler alert...spoiler alert, do not go any further if you haven't read this book as I don't want to ruin it. You have been warned.
Ooh have mercy, Bean has been around a long time it was hard saying goodbye to a dear friend and motherly figure. Hearing her speak through the letters was a choking moment. Yes dammit, A.C. Bextor made me cry, the awesome woman will be missed!
Sarah's character as Ace's hell raising sister emerges and I loved every nerve wrecking, drive you insane moment. The girl was positively certifiable, quick wit, sass with enough brass to kick you in the balls, and her determination to fight for what she believes in... classic!
Travis on the other hand...speechless, he lost major man points with me. Yooo Sarah you better check to make sure he doesn't have a vagina! Hahah, yah I know troll comment, sorry A.C. now back to Travis. You finally get the woman of your dreams, the girl you've been in love with since you were kids. At the first threat of the relationship, you cave into Aces demands? Where was your bravado of fuck Ace, you'd handle it? The only thing you managed to handle was the door hitting your ass on the way out! Oooh I was more than pissed and like a good puppy once Ace told you to sit and stay you did. Break up with my sister... check! Roll over and play dead....check, now that you've punched me and I've punched you, you can be with my sister.....Ooooo fucking kay! Not once did you apologize for the colossal fuck up or grovel like the dog you are, but you sure spoke during sex! Poor Sara, who talks when they're getting a sexy as sin pounding? You know the kind, the one that drives you through the mattress and into the floorboards!
Out of all of AC Bextor's heroes, Shame and Ace held a special place in my heart. That isn't to say I didn't adore Hem and Hayden because I did, but there was just something about Shame and Ace. Then, along comes Travis. Travis has always understood Sarah. He took the time to understand her. Everyone else, including her big brother, Ace, saw her as a pain-in-the-ass and just plain difficult. Sarah is 19 now and floundering after a tragedy that changes everyone's lives. Overcome with grief, Sarah and Travis turn to each other in a way they hadn't ever truly considered. Once it's discovered, the fallout is truly heart-wrenching.
Let me pause here, just as I had to stop reading for a good thirty minutes. Ace pissed me off so much, I wanted him fucked up. In the end, though, the reasons for his behavior were poignant and coming from a place we can all identified with. It was his delivery that incited my violent reaction. On the other hand, Hayden has grown into a reliable, rock solid friend.
Travis is a wonderful hero. He's scarred but he knows what he wants. Sarah. He'll do anything for her. Sacrifice his own happiness for hers. He's protective and tender. He has eight years on her and it shows through his patience with her when she flounders. Sarah is nineteen. Her reactions and behavior is understandable given her age.
It really saddens me that the series is ending. Although Lights of Peril ended with Toxic, with the conclusion to Devil's Despair, it's a ring of finality for both series.
Travis's Stand is heart-warming and heart-wrenching. It shows the meaning of love and friendship through thick and thin. I will miss them dearly.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful characters with, AC. Your books are amazing.
Review by Jen Hagen
I have read every one of Ms. Baxtor’s books, starting with The Lights of Peril MC books and ending with this final book in the Devil’s Despair spin-off series. I have loved every book. Most of them make my shirt sleeves wet from wiping away tears, but this time around I only had a choking feeling with the inability to swallow because of the frog in my throat. I knew from the minute that Travis was introduced to us in “Ace’s Redemption” that he would be the most intriguing and probably end up being my favorite character. I wasn’t wrong. I went back to the first introduction and he was described as,
“His soul is damaged, but his heart has remained kind. He’s extremely quiet and reserved—he rarely laughs.”
Ms. Bextor has stayed true to her characters from the moment she put them on paper. Travis has remained an enigma and waiting for his story to be told was like waiting for a pot of water to boil.
When Travis was first introduced he was 23 years old, he is now 27 years old and still keeps a large distance between him and others. In fact, that’s the only way he knows to live and that’s the way he likes it. When he was 3 years old his father asked his mother to leave because she was addicted to drugs/alcohol and was becoming an unfit mother. His father never sought another female companion and became a hermit, happily living with only having Travis in his life. Travis loved and respected his father and they were ying and yang to each other. Sadly that came to an end 5 years ago when his father was tragically killed. Travis has nightmares that haunt him and will not speak about them.
Sarah is 19 years old and has been the little sister to their group. Sarah has grown up a lot since we first met her, although she is still sassy and argumentative. You just have to accept this is Sarah and there is no changing her. Sarah and Travis have had a love-hate relationship…she loves to get under his skin at the same time acting like she hates him. Travis is so docile he doesn’t care...he actually enjoys the companionship. He understands Sarah better than her own brother, Ace. Two years ago Sarah and Travis shared a kiss and the ever-patient Travis has been waiting for Sarah to realize that she loves him as much as he loves her. When Sarah needs comfort, it is Travis she turns to for a night of passion to help her forget her pain. Travis sees this as an opening to them beginning a relationship. Sarah loves Travis, but is scared by the fact if they weren’t to work out she would lose her best friend. She is pushing him away, and pushing hard – so hard that she calls their time together a mistake. This knocks Travis to the core.
“You broke my heart, Sarah,” he says on a breath after I pull away. “You’re breaking my heart,” he says with the next. “I hate that I’m invisible to you. I don’t know what else to say or do to make us right. I won’t hurt you.”
Even if they were to give in to their desires, they have a HUGE obstacle standing in their way, and his name is Ace – Sarah’s brother and Travis’s good friend. If you remember, Ace is very, very controlling. There is no way he is going to let this turn into a romance.
“Whatever the f*ck this is, it’s f*cking over. Today. You’re done. Both of you,” he says absolutely.
If Ace hadn’t been part of a motorcycle club I would go kick his a%%, but unfortunately he is a scary dude and knows how to hurt people. Everybody seems to be scared of Ace and his temper. Nobody can get it through to him that Travis and Sarah would be a good thing. If Travis doesn’t back down from Sarah he will lose everybody that he has in his life. He has no family left, only his friends. This is where my heart really started to hurt.
I’d have to let Sarah go and I’d have to do it in such a way she’ll have no choice but to accept it. And she’ll hate me for the rest of her life after hurting her the way I know I will.
There may be years of age difference between Sarah and Travis, but they have been destined to be together since she was 12. Travis could have had his choice of women, but he never chose that path. Travis would rather be alone than be with somebody he doesn’t love. So why doesn’t he fight harder for her? Here’s where the story we’ve been waiting for lays. Are Travis’s nightmares really part of the past that he is reliving? He needs to know what is real and what isn’t. Is it better to leave the truth in the past or risk knowing what he fears?
“The truth is ugly.”
Since this is the final book in the Devil’s Despair series, Ms. Bextor has given us a fantastic epilogue! A great conclusion to the boys that I have loved from the minute I knew them.
Happiness may be falling in love with your best friend, but it takes a willing surrender to forfeit the rights to your own heart and trust someone else to take care of it when you’re not strong enough or willing to do it yourself.
What can I say about Travis and Sarah other than I saw that coming. Their story was already in the works throughout the whole series. I loved Travis; his broken self drew me to him. He had the tough persona but when it came to Sarah it was completely washed away.
Sarah has tried to break away from being the little girl everyone saw for so long. Drama is never far from her. Travis has always been the one to actually she her for her. It is quite obvious too that he no longer sees her as the little girl she once was. There is only once problem for the both of them, Ace.
My heart broke so early in this book when we lost an important member of this series but with that, it made relationships stronger even if it didn't seem that way at first. Sarah and Travis's story was probably the most emotional of the series but the most rewarding. So happy with the way this series came together.
Another great book and an amazing end to the series. Although it took some time and I wasn't sure if they were going to make it, Travis and Sarah found their HEA with each other. I loved how the epilogue included all of the major players from the three books. Like I said, it was a very satisfying ending that tied up loose ends and leaves the reader and the characters in a good place.
4.5 Stars.
I found this installment in the series to be the most emotional. I absolutely adores Travis and I found that Sarah annoyed the crap out of me. She was totally immature and I loved that becasue she's only 19 and totally acted her age. Thee annoyance came more from the complete ignoring of her feelings aand completely leading Devon on. And then there's Ace......
I loved Ace in book 1. In book 2 you see a bigger asshole. In book 3 complete asshole. He wants to call all the shots where his little sister is concerned and yet she's an adult. And inn a way she lets him which was completely infuriating. And lets not talk about the other frriends who completely turned ttheir backs on Travis when he needed them and he was right!!!
No, Travis endured more than any other character and I felt he was the one who grew the most as a character.
Happily emotinal and just a great read.
I've been waiting for this book since I read the first. Figures. I always fall for the side characters. And Travis was no exception.
These two can give you a whiplash, throughout the series and that still continues in their book, too. Why? Because both are stubborn. Travis doesn't want anything with Sarah because she's young and hasn't yet lived her life, while the latter feels like Travis hung the moon, and has been in love with him her entire life.
But tragedy strikes. They're both in pain and find refuge in each other.
From that one night, things change. Travis is the one to want more, while Sarah is adamant on staying away.
I have to say, sometimes, I found Sarah to be a tad immature, but then I'd remember she's only 19. We've all been there.
As for Travis, I think he's perfect for her, to be honest. He has always been the one for her, even though some might not think that and want to keep them apart.
I liked it; I laughed at certain scenes, sighed and swooned over Travis and the hot scenes were definitely hot! I'm actually sorry it's the end to this series, but we get something extra, at the very end of the book and that made me smile big.
4 stars and I'm pretty sure I'll reread them, at one point.
5 Stars Superb
I was graciously given an ARC of this book and once again the very talented Author A.C. Bextor has done it again! Travis was such an enigma to me in the previous books and I loved getting more into his head and finding out exactly what made him that way. The only thing unmistaken to me throughout this series was his feelings towards Sarah especially in this book. Sarah as much as I loved her she also frustrated me at times BUT in the same breath and in fairness to the author, she only acted her age in the beginning of this story, lol, so for the first half of the book I had to keep reminding myself of her age..... As a reader I did see her mature from a young girl to a genuinely beautiful woman and yes, I LOVED her by the end. I did love their story, it was heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time and I loved their journey together!
All in all this Author and her books are just terrific!!!!! I have loved everything she has put out to date and truly cannot wait for so much more from her in the future!!!! She is and always will be on my favorite author list!!!!
Congrats to you, A.C. Bextor on another outstanding book and I wish you nothing but continued success in your writing in the future and always!!!!! A forever fan of yours:)
The Devil's Despair series comes to an end with Travis and Sarah's story. I have to say that this has been such a good series and Travis's Stand for me was the best one yet.
Travis has always been a little bit of an enigma but we got to see all his layers here and find he was so much more troubled a character than I could possibly have imagined. Sarah has always felt a little bit more of an open book given her young age and her immaturity. However, I loved watching her growth through the book. One of the things I often find lacking from my H/h is any sort of emotional connection; we always get sexual chemistry but it's often the deeper emotional connection that is lacking. That can not be said for Travis and Sarah. They had a solid basis of friendship and the slow transformation from friends to lovers is subtle and believable and was at times touching and heartbreaking. Their story of how thy help heal each other was lovely.
Great story that was emotional and felt real but at the end just made me feel happy.
I really enjoyed this book and I'm sad to see the end of such a good series. I would highly recommend this book/series.
I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Despair series has come to an end with Travis and Sarah’s story, I have loved this series from the beginning with Ace, then Hayden and now Travis.
AC, does it again this is a brilliant story where we learn more about Travis and what troubles him, and we learn to love Sarah, as she has always been looking for the attention from her brother Ace, and Travis has always been there looking out for her. Sarah has always been a pain in the a**. This story had my emotions all over the place it’s so well written with some surprises I didn’t see coming.
AC, didn’t disappoint when writing the end of the series, I have loved them all, I always thought Travis deserved his happily ever after If your curious if he gets it. “Well” I guess you had better read it to find out. I look forward to more from AC Bextor, as she just has a talent for words.
I highly recommend this book or any book by the lovely AC Bextor, as you won’t be disappointed at all.
I received and ARC, and was asked for my honest review.
Wonderful series
I absolutely LOVED this series and this was a perfect 3rd book to the end. I did love Ace and was nervous initially going in because I had a love/hate relationship with him from Lights of Peril. Then came Hayden and Travis! Travis was just wonderful to read! His and Sarah's story..... beautiful! Love it and sad to see it end. I read Peril and this series back to back.
This book just blew my mind. I am so mixed with emotions about it. I absolutely loved the story, but am so heartbroken that the series has ended. It seems like we have been with all these characters for years, starting with the Lights of Peril series. They may be two separate series, but are intertwined. Travis has always been one of my favorites. He was the rock. He always looked out for Sarah. I have to admit, when I first started with Ace’s Redemption, I never would have thought this is where the storyline would have ended up. I am pleasantly surprised that it had though.
Sarah has always been a pain in the butt. We all know it was because she was seeking attention from Ace. She always felt that she was nothing more than Ace’s little annoying sister that has a smart mouth. But as time went on, Sarah turns into this beautiful woman and a force to be reckon with. The only person who has ever understood Sarah was Travis. Travis however is Ace’s best friend. Can Travis and Sarah be more than just friends? Better question is, will Ace allow it and still remain friends with Travis?
The story is so well written by AC that you don’t want it to end. She brings us up to date with all our favorite characters. Even some heart jerking moments that breaks your heart. I won’t ruin it for anyone, but I was shocked and devastated that she did this. But in the end if it wasn’t written this way, the story would not have the great ending that it did.
AC did this series and story justice. I was so glad to have read this series. I wish it would not have ended. I look forward to upcoming novels by AC Bextor.
How do you deny yourself the true love of your life? By trying to make yourself believe that you are not good for her.
This is the last book in the Devil’s Despair Series. Like the others in this series (Ace’s Redemption, & Hayden’s Verse), A.C. Bextor does not disappoint. Although I love Ace (who we first met in Lights of Peril), & Hayden, I always had a soft spot for (poor, misunderstood) Travis. He had a rough start in childhood & lost his dad to tragedy, but, he triumphs in the end, by facing some cold, hard facts, & working through them with the help of that true love (& amazing friends).
After losing her beloved grandmother, Sarah, Ace’s (no longer) baby sister tries to convince herself that she & Travis could never be. Being afraid of losing their special friendship, & having Ace go ballistic, she just feels it’s the easiest way to go. …WRONG! (we all know that never works).
With a little guidance from above, they are able to have their HEA.
This is a real romance with some twists & “aha” moments.
Thank you A.C. for completing this circle of true blue, amazing friends. We should all be as lucky as Ace & Rae, Hayden & Lacey, and Travis & Sarah to have such a close-knit circle.
Absolutely loved it!! I knew from the very first book when I met Travis that he was going to be my favorite. And of course I was not disappointed with this book. I think I’m in love!!
Travis has a dark past, his mother left when he was three and Travis has nightmares about his life with her. His father and best friend died five years ago and he still hasn’t accepted his death. He does have a great group of friends but they don’t really know all that he keeps hidden.
Sarah is one of his best friends little sister. She is full of energy, spunk and isn’t afraid to tell you exactly what she thinks. She was raised by her grandmother and big brother. Even as a child she depended on Travis and his friendship.
Travis and Sarah are such a amazing couple, I freaking love them together. A.C. did a wonderful job bringing these two to us, I laughed, got mad and I cried. I am not a big crier but I cried several times in this book. It was written that well. Thank you A.C for finally giving us Travis’s story, I am absolutely in awe of you.
Where do I start with Travis' book? A.C. did it again! You've got Travis, the quite, introspective Alpha and Sarah, who is strong willed, mouthy and out to prove she's a woman now! This book made me laugh out loud and spit out my water. Made me cry!!! There was even a short time frame where I cursed the day I took a chance on A.C.! I was so upset with her for breaking my heart!!! However, A.C. you are in my good graces, as Travis' book was by far my favorite in the series. I am sad to see the Devil's Despair family go, but, can not wait to take this next journey with you! Thank you A.C. for putting so much care, thought and incredible writing into each and every book! Just know with each book my heart shattered at some point, but by the end had mended itself. However, one piece of my heart from each book will forever be for your Devil's Despair crew! I am looking forward (not so patiently) for what's next! Keep on rocking it!
This story is about Travis and Sarah. We’ve met them in the previous books and I was looking forward to their story. I was not disappointed. Follow them along their emotional journey of loss, love and heartbreak. From a beloved family member's passing to their found love for each other only to be torn apart and the emotional discovery about Travis’s past. Can they overcome the grief and the obstacles put in their way to be together? I loved Travis in this story. A kind, considerate and sexy guy all at the same time. This story was very emotional and had me tear up more than once. Sad to see this series end. I’ve gotten to love all the characters in this series. Thank you AC Bextor for another great read.
In this book we get the culmination of Travis & Sarah's story. We got to meet them in the last two books and got snippets in to their lives. AC Bextor did a fantastic job of building up the characters and making you want to know their story, make you want to know how everything ends. My only issue in this book is the character of Ace. His actions towards Sarah were just over the top to me, considering she is 19 in this book.
AC Bextor is one of my go to authors. I haven't read a book of hers that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. One of her books, Toxic, is in my top five reads of all times. I can't wait to see what type of book and series that she has for us next!
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Great end to a Great Series
Loved the entire series and have A.C. Bextor as a must buy author whenever her new books hit Amazon. I love that there is just enough angst, just enough suspense, plenty of hot and steamy scenes and a great cast if characters that you cant help but love. In this book Travis and Sarah take us on there rocky roller coaster ride till they get the HEA they deserve. Sarah is definately a character who made me laugh and made me cry. Shes got spunk and sass but she also is so sensitive and vulnerable. Travis is a bit of a loner, except for their immediate circle of friends, and he has issues but he loves hard and hes loyal and sincere and I loved him for it. The series wraps up with this book and the epilogue left me in a good place.
I always wondered about Travis's and Sarah's story!
And A.C. Bextor did an excellent job with this book! We finally get to know all of their history throughout the years!
Their story is sweet, heart warming and a roller coaster of emotions! I laughed, I cried and I fell in love with them even more! The plot was very well developed, their feelings were portrayed in such way that I felt what they were feeling!!!
The most amazing thing, though, was that the author managed to give me the closure I needed for this series without stealing the limelight from Travis and Sarah!!! I love A.C.'s writing style and the way she has with words!!!
Looking forward to her next books!!!
PSSST.. THERE ARE A FEW SPOILERS BELOW (this is me warning you in advance.)
The series & the story are good but I was deeply disturbed by the violent way Travis & Sarah threw shit around & broke things when they got angry. Throwing coffee pots, glass jars full of coins & destroying a room are dangerous ways to have a temper tantrum. I ended up hoping they sought counseling for anger management before they got married, but nope. They were my least favorite couple because of their immaturity. They were always trying to incite jealousy in each other. I could see them divorced later just because they never learned how to always talk, fight & treat each other with respect.
Amazing book and amazing series...so sad to see it over...Bextor did an exceptional job with Travis and Sarah's story...Sarah grew up loving and relying on Travis like a brother...somehow that love became a thirst that only Travis could quench...it took Bean's last words to Travis to get him to finally take a stand where Sarah was concerned...friendship, forgiveness, loss, healing and unconditional love are just a few of the themes you'll read...pick up this series because it's so worth it...great author, great book!!!
I was literally counting down the days for this to come out! I've had high expectations for Travis's Stand, rightfully so because this book is so AWESOME! I'm extremely sad that this series has come to an end, but I must admit it couldn't have ended better!!! AC Bextor you are a genius! I will continue to read anything and everything you put out!
