The story opens with Katrina in a New York orphanage. She has lost her mother and was taking care of her baby sister. Her father takes her and her baby sister to a nearby orphanage to stay while he looks for a better job so he can care for them. While in the orphanage, Katrina discovers that her baby sister has been adopted by a couple without her knowledge and her father has signed away his rights. This devastates her when she learns she has lost her entire family.
She is befriended by two other orphans, Anna and Serena, who become like sisters to her. Six years later all three of them travel on a train and are taken in by three different families in the same town in Texas.
When she becomes an adult, she is forced in a predicament that she doesn’t want to be in through the family that adopted her. She decides to secretly accept a job offer to be a teacher on the Big Springs Ranch where Anna is now living, having left Texas to become a Mail-order bride to a man who owns a ranch with his two brothers. She leaves with Serena (who also decides to be a mail-order bride to Paul, one of Alex’s brothers).
Once in Montana, Katrina enjoys her new job teaching on the ranch and she feels safe away from the mess she left in Texas. She soon starts to get to know Luke, another brother who owns the ranch, and his young daughter. But Luke does not trust women and is doing his best to push Katrina away. Katrina is afraid to let herself trust Luke since she almost everyone she has loved has broken promises to her. Will they both be able to learn to trust each other and form a new family?
Katrina's mother died and her father felt that he was unable to take care of Katrina and her baby sister. He placed Katrina and her sister in an orphanage in New York City where Katrina spent most of her time taking care of her baby sister. One day she found that her sister was not in her crib. She learned that her father had given up all rights to his daughters and the baby had been adopted. Soon after, Katrina had been placed on an orphan train and went to Texas to be adopted. Her adoptive parents were very controlling and she was punished for every infraction of disobedience to their rules. She escaped by accepting a teaching position on a ranch where friends on the orphan train were living and her adoptive parents disowned her.
Read this book to learn about Katrina's life on the ranch, the ranch school, and the love of her life. I enjoyed this book and hope you enjoy it also.
I Enjoyed this book from start to finish. Family history, mine, has a story of two of my cousins…greats i guess you would call them…. they were half siblings but they rode the train and my Great uncle on my mothers side with his young wife adopted them….. I was sorry to learn that they did not write much about it in the family history… they did tell my Grandmother, who wrote it down, that they felt like they were naturals and they had a great life, James Smith md and had 5 children, Bernice md and only had 3…heck my mom was named after her….But they were some of the lucky ones they both said.. Though Katrina did not have the best But ended up with the Best.. this was a good book to show how some made a good life after starting on the train.. Loved the whole family life they all shared… Enjoy this book.. For some reason it touched my heart being I read it 3 days before Christmas….. Touching
Luke was very hurt when he realized Pamela had actually been wanting to leave. Our choices always affect others, not just ourselves. Pamela truly didn't think about love and marriage with love only with her head. We can always expect disappointment when we truly don't make our decisions with our whole heart. Trust is hard to give when it has been broken. Thankfully Luke realises Katrina is not the same person as Pamela. He closely watches her and can truly give his heart again because he recognizes the true heart of Katrina .
This is a short story of 3 girls growing up in an orphanage. They were put on an orphan train and ended up in a small town, all 3girls adopted by three different families. Growing up they were able to keep in touch with each other. A very sweet story that is appropriate for teens and adults. Even though this is book 5 in the Orphan Train Romance Series it can be read as a stand alone.
Katrina left an orphanage in new York on an orphan train bound for texas with her 2 friends. They were adopted by different families in the same town. When katrina has the opportunity to follow her friends to Montana she finds just what she has always been looking for. Another winner by Zoe Matthews.
What a man to do, for the love of his daughter? This father wanted her to have an education. So when an opportunity came to him he offered the job to a friend of his sister I. Law. If he only knew how this one decision would change his life. The teacher wanted out of a sticky situation and made came to ranch. Not only to teach, but to find love.n
A very good read. Holds your interest. A little better than the previous books written in conclusion to the connecting stories. I would recommend this book if you are a western romance reader.
An exceptionally well written story suitable for anyone between the ages of 12 to 112. A heart warming tale that tells of how a young child, given to an orphanage along with her infant sister, has her life turned upside down when given an opportunity to travel on what was called the orphan train, to a small town in the middle of Texas, just before her 13th birthday. Along with her two best friends at the orphanage, their travels into the unknown begin. As she grows into a beautiful young lady, and is allowed to follow her dream of achieving her teaching certificate, she is unaware of the plans her adoptive parents have made for her future. The plot is full of intrigue and a bit of suspense, but mostly overflowing of love. That of "sisters" as the friends refer to themselves, and of families, as they find when they are welcomed into the Bridger brothers' family circle. This is a standalone story, even though it ties in with the rest of the Orphan Train Series. Worth the read
Loved the concept. Well written. love the characters, read all in the series. Really like that all the books keep you involved in all the orphan girls lives. Recommend reading them all
I loved this story. It was a short, sweet, and clean story. It can be read as a stand alone but is much better when you've read Anna and Serena's stories. The ending included what was going on with all three couples from Katrina 's POV.
