This is such a fun little book about the three states of matter. I fell upon this book while trying to figure out a fun way to introduce a 1st grade science lesson about matter. I fell in love with it after reading it. I choose to use this book for my lesson even though it is for older kids. I love how fun this book is even though they are still learning something. I also love how it ties in fantasy with it. Along with that the pictures were amazing and so interesting. All in all this is a great book if you want to teach about states of matter or if you just have a student who is interested in this kind of thing.

Joe-Joe the Wizard Brews up Solids, Liquids, and Gases is a book in a series of science picture books that help to make science concepts easily understandable for children. This book tackles the states of matter and does a fantastic job explaining the different states, volume, mass, and changing from one state to another. It also has some nice resources in the back such as a glossary, some books for further reading, internet sites, as well as an index. This would be a nice book to read to students when discussing states of matter and I am definitely going to check out the other books in the series about forces and motion, living and nonliving, as well as sinking and floating.

I read this to both of my boys tonight before bed. It was great because it introduced terms of science in a fun and creative way. Teachers could use this book as an introduction read-aloud to matter. My boys gave it a high rating. Loved it!

Entertaining and informative picture book about the different forms of matter. This is a perfect book to read with elementary age students as additional science curriculum or just for fun.

Joe-Joe is a student who is experimenting with his homework. He ends up turning his chocolate bar into the chocolate syrup. With the help of Joe-Joe's teacher he is able to learn how solids, liquids and gas can help with his mess he has made.

I would include this book book in my classroom library because it allows for students to connect to real life situations and science content at the same time. This fun book is filled with creative illustrations to be able to engage students more.

A teaching point for this book would be to do a science investigation with solids, liquids and gasses like Joe-Joe did with the chocolate bar. It would help to engage students in learning about these physical changes and would be great for a science introduction on this topic.

summary: This book is about a little boy who is a student that has a problem. He is experimenting with his homework. He is trying to make chocolate bars but they turn into syrup. His mess turns sticky but he is able to learn about solids, liquids, and gases through it.

evaluation: I really enjoyed this book. I would definitely use this in my classroom. It is a great resource for teaching matter and the different elements. This is a great book for illustrations as well as keeping the students engaged.

teaching point: I would use this as a science lesson. I would actually do the science experiment that he did. We could each have a Hershey bar and take them outside and let them melt and talk about how with heat solids turn into liquids.
