DNF

When I first heard about this book I thought that it sounded interesting. I read through some of the reviews and saw all the appealing feedback. I did not hesitate to request it. Unfortunately I didn't like the writing style.

The book begins with Aja waiting outside of the principle's office. The principle is having an argument with one of her teachers about expelling her. She hasn't been to school that much, she has missing assignments, and on top of that the town believes her to be crazy because her mother is psychic. The teacher's argument is that Aja needs a guide and that she would like to be her guide.

Aja out of frustration decides to leave and on the way out steals $40 from an open wallet. If they truly believe that Aja's some crazy and a bad kid, then fine so be it. She reaches home and heads upstairs to get ready for work. While upstairs the police arrive regarding the money she stole. She quickly leaves her house and a stranger offers her a ride. The stranger Walker explains that her mother sent him to get Aja. She agrees and the two drive to the mall.

Her boss isn't happy that she's late and not dressed in the uniform and sets her off to fold some clothes. While folding she hears a mother treating her child badly. When the mother slaps her daughter Aja stands up for the daughter. Telling her not to put up with her mother and that if her mother hits her again she should call the police. At some point her boss arrives and promises the rude mother a gift card. He also fires Aja.

Aja leaves in a fit. She meets up with a friend of her and they chat for a bit. Eventually said friend has to leave and Aja calls Walker for a ride. On the way back to her house Walker tells Aja of a waitress job at an elderly's home. At first Aja denies the idea of working there. But seeing no other choice she applies for the job. And thanks to a recommendation from Walker she gets the job.

My problem with this was the writing style. I think that it would've been better if it was first person rather than third person. This is a personal issue.

I loved Aja! She was really smart and stood her own ground. I really felt for her. It wasn't fair that she was being judged based on her background. She isn't any of those labels the townspeople consider her to be. Walker seemed sweet and her mother was nice. I don't have anything else to say because I didn't skim the book after I DNFed it.

Overall I didn't like the writing style for this book. I still recommend it because I think that it's a wonderful story. If you are still unsure if you want to read it read some of the other reviews. I recommend it to fans of contemporary (it has some contemporary), and fans of lighthearted fantasy (the story focuses more on the characters than the fantasy aspect).

I received this free eARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This was a very engaging story that kept me on my toes throughout the whole novel. This is part contemporary/part paranormal book that I think will appeal to a wide range of readers.

I definitely feel for Aja (pronounced Asia). She has had the short stick her whole life and now everything is starting to crumble around her. She's in trouble with the authorities, though she didn't do anything wrong. She's in trouble with the school, but thankfully she has the guidance counselor rooting for her side. And she's having a crazy police officer stalking her and trying to get her in a compromising situation, but Aja has had enough terrible luck in her life.

I loved the story with Aja at the nursing home. She thought old people were gross and weak, but she quickly learned how wrong she was when she started working there and seeing the tenants. In fact, she was royally pissed when she got fired there because she wanted to visit with some of the old people she grew close to.

The whole story with Officer Clay is just plain creepy and scary. I was reading the suspenseful part that included him breaking into Aja's house right before I went to sleep and I couldn't fall asleep for the longest time whenever I heard a weird noise in my apartment.... That is something I don't even want to read about because it could definitely happen!

I really enjoyed this story. It had enough to keep readers wanting more, and the ending was fantastic. No cliffhangers and there is a great conclusion that leaves the reader imagining how life will go for Aja and the people she cares about!

I received a copy via netgalley.

Cover is stunning, but what counts is the inside and let's just say it was less than pretty. The characters were harsh two dimensionally and so fake snarky that it was almost to unbearable to finish. Lots of loop holes, I wanted more from the whole psychic power that was brought up then dropped like a hot cake. It was only brought up a handful of times and only when it seemed the storyline couldn't get any duller. Mostly the main character Aja is get into trouble wether she did it or not and a creeper cop stalks her, no depth nothing just a whiny kid with an attitude who flip flops from wanting to get into trouble and not get in trouble. Nothing really made sense half the time. I wouldn't recommend this one...

Firstly let me start by saying I enjoyed Snow Globe. In fact I'd have enjoyed it even more so if I hadn't read the synopsis. I think that's the issue really with some books, you go into things expecting something and sometimes you don't get it due to a misunderstand, interpretation etc... You get the idea.

Aja is a teen who hasn't had many breaks. In fact if there was anyone who ever said the world was against them, then they should read Aja story. This girl literally gets kicked down time and time again. You can see why she feels the way she does and just reading her story (Even though it is fiction) makes me see why some teens these days turn to the lives they do. Still I'm side tracking. Aja is easy to like and yet she's also rather forlorn at times. It wasn't always easy to read this book, not because it was dark or upsetting, but because Aja was in such a bad place that she couldn't see a way out. It goes to prove that you can have all the love in the world but sometimes that's not everything. I loved Aja's mum. Being a parent myself I got why her mum did everything she did, how she thought it was right for Aja but also how we sometimes have to let our kids do their own things too.

The story isn't really that fast moving, in fact if it wasn't for the Freddie Kruger police man, I may have found this book too much. The 'thriller' aspect of this book is good. What disappointed me was this though in the synopsis...
'Aja fights to suppress her own intuitive abilities because the power scares her. '
That one line ruined this book for me. I went into read this YA book feeling there would be a larger supernatural aspect there. Granted Aja's mum is a fortune teller, but that's not the main storyline of this book at all. Aja's gift isn't really a huge part of this book and with the exception of about 3-4 instances in this book you won't really hear anything about Aja's gift either. With that one line I had expectations, its a shame really as the book then didn't work for me as much. If that one line hadn't been there I'd have expect something different, had different expectations of what to think and feel. Instead I was left feeling... ok.

Snow Globe is a good book, I liked how it turned out, I felt Aja ended up at the right place in the end (Although wasn't happy about her 'company' - again I'm not giving spoilers). This book is sweet, its enlightening, its dark in places and the massive reference to Princess Bride made me smile - its a 3.5 star book but it could easily have been a 4.

After reading Ms. Skartsiaris' first book, Surviving Life, I was eager to pick up Snow Globe. The cover and synopsis drew me in immediately. I love supernatural thrillers and Snow Globe certainly kept me on the edge of my seat.

I didn't connect with Aja immediately. I was very much a good girl growing up, teachers loved me, and I was never in trouble. However, I very much enjoyed her story, her free-spirited mother, and her relationship with the rest of the characters, especially those in the assisted living facility.

Snow Globe has all the makings of a great psychological and supernatural thriller, with the added bonus of true heart and soul that I've come to expect from Ms. Skartsiaris' work. With psychics, stalkers, romance, and much, much more, Snow Globe will appeal to a wide variety of readers.

This story was pretty good. It was a feel good story for me. I wish there was more Paranormal elements in it but overall I enjoyed it. I would have loved the author to write much more about the psychic powers. But this is just my opinion. I loved the main character, Aja, and I enjoyed the her new friend Walker too. * I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

This was the first book I've read by Jeanne and I loved it. Even though it was geared to a younger audience I enjoyed it. I read it all in one sitting because I couldn't seem to put it down. It was engaging and I developed a relationship with Aja. I feel she was judged for all the wrong reasons and not given the chance she needed. I did enjoy how she interacted with the elderly. Give it a read. You won't regret it.

The best thing about this book was the cover. I should have stuck to my rule about giving a book 100 pages to interest me. This book had grammatical errors, inconsistencies, way too many repetitions, and flat characters. It seems that the author was trying to see how many times she could insert the name “Aja” into 250 pages. Does Aja’s mom even have a name besides “Aja’s mom?”

FIRST REVIEW AND BOOK OF THE YEAR!

MORE REVIEWS AT BITE SOME BOOKS

Snow Globe was one of the most thrilling novels I've read so far. I had goosebumps all the way from the beginning. I had a bit difficulty trying to figure out the genre. I know it says Fantasy and Supernatural, but those two aspects are more like accompanying aspects rather than significant ones. If you expect to read a story of a psychic girl who fights demons and ghosts and stuff like that, then you won't get what you're looking for. Because this novel isn't exactly a supernatural novel, it's more about the struggle of life for a girl with dark past and abnormal mom who's the perfect portrayal of a hippie.

What I liked the most was the main character, Aja. She's tough and even though life has been grinding her to pulp, she manages to find her way round. I liked how she stands up for what she thinks is right and even though she gets many judgements from people, she doesn't care. She's strong and life has made her so. I mean, yes, she still cries sometimes. But, who doesn't?

The suspense is also high. I've never felt this scared for a character for a long time. It's like life and earth and all its inhabitants have turned against her and try to make her as miserable as possible. But, Aja takes it all with her head held high and her comebacks are the best things ever.

I especially like these lines she said when she saw a mother slapping her daughter across the face.

“Don’t take that, kid,” Aja said to the child. “Dial 911.” Aja glared at the mother. “If you didn’t want kids, you shouldn’t have had them. Theyre not punching bags.”

And this is what she does after she gets fired for standing up for the kid.

Aja tossed her armload of clothes to the floor and made sure to step on them as she stormed off.

Yeah. That's what I call real sass.
But I liked her for it.

There's also a bit of romance in it, it's not exactly the main genre of the book so I understood for the lack of it. It's so slow and gradual. They're not that couple who gets all lovey-dovey right after the first meeting. In fact, they have their own problems and trust issues to deal with. The fact that they have so many problems is what makes them so real compared to couples in reality. It was also entertaining to see Aja avoiding him but still secretly wishing he'd come to visit her. They're just too adorable.

You won't be worried about getting bored because this novel is fast-paced and filled with tensions. I would've finished this in one sit if only I didn't fall asleep due to my lack of sleep (I finished this in two).

Overall, I'd say Snow Globe is a great and worthy read. It teaches us to stand up for what we think is right, but don't do careless and reckless things while doing so. It also teaches us that no matter how hard life is on you, in the end, there'll come a time when the stars align and the moon shines real bright just for you.

Today I am going to be reviewing and discussing Snow Globe by Jeanne Skartsiaris. I am so happy that I have a blog and not a vlog channel because that author's name would be super hard to pronounce! This book was sent to me by Barclay Publicity via NetGalley and I would like to give a thank you shout out to them for granting my wish! I absolutely had no idea of what to expect because I had solely wished for it based on the cover (it is sooo beautiful!!!)!So, because I had not even bothered to read the synopsis I was practically shoved into this book blindfolded! I did not know what to expect and I was imagining a nice cute contemporary based on the title! I could not have been more wrong. We follow Aja (pronounced Asia), who is a juvenile delinquent. Her mom, who is a psychic, and she are like gypsies going from one place to another every year. Her mom practically supports and fights and rally for every cause ever... and that is how they end up in bars most of the time! But Aja really wants a normal life and a place that she can truly call home. She does not know it yet, but her life will turn upside down because of two stolen dollar bills...

That does sound super interesting and for the most part of the book, I loved it! I was immersed into it the second I started reading it because the writing style was so easy to follow! It was so simple and yet so powerful and I really admired that quality! The characters were so relate-able and the character development in this book really astounded me!

This book contains a lot of sexual harassment and stalking and makes us aware of things that happen every day in front of us! It was very disturbing to read how Aja struggled with these problems and how the world seemed to have been turned against her. Nobody trusted her and she was accused of so many many things that it was just heartbreaking!

This book is one of the most realistic pieces of literature that I have ever seen because it was a combination of everything. It had romance, action, an important message, a little bit of fantasy and so much more! I loved this book and rated it 4 out of 5 stars! There were bits that were so heartwarming and bits that made you want to punch something. You should know that when a book influences any action of yours, it has been a good book!

This book taught me so much about life and while reading it, I could easily imagine every single event happening. It was described so well and the plot so amazingly crafted! I would recommend this book to you if you have not read it and I just want to say that this author is super underhyped and needs more people to read it! It deserves so much more and I would definitely like to read more from this author!

Snow Globe by Jeanne Skartsiaris is a young adult paranormal novel (sort of) set in Dallas, Texas. Aja (pronounced Asia) Harmon is eighteen years old and finishing up her senior year of high school. Her mother has moved her around every year of her academic career (which has made it rough on Aja). The principal and some of the teachers have made judgements of Aja based on her file, appearance, and her mother’s occupation as a psychic (she is the real deal). Aja decides if they think she is bad she will do something bad. She then steals $40 from Mrs. Dempsey’s purse (the English teacher who dislikes Aja). When the police (Officer Clay) arrive at her house to arrest her, Aja sneaks out (and hurries to work). Aja meets Walker who offers her a lift to her job at Abercrombie and Fitch. Aja gets fired when she confronts a customer who is abusing her daughter (the store sides with the mother). Aja gets a new job at Golden Leaves Retirement Community (she is saving up money to move to California after she graduates) thanks to her new friend Walker. Aja will be a waitress in the resident dining room. The one person that Aja has in her corner (besides her mother) is the school counselor Mrs. Burnett. She believes in Aja and is encouraging her (and helping her).

Aja was not sure she would enjoy working with the elderly, but the residents surprise her (except for one who seems to dislike her). Aja also makes a friend in Walker whose grandparents are residents at Golden Leaves and with Mr. Jenson (who believes Aja looks like his wife). Aja, unfortunately, has caught the attention of (corrupt and lecherous) Officer Clay. When jewelry goes missing at Golden Leaves will Aja be able to prove that she was not the culprit? Aja will have to fight the system and prove to people there is more to her than meets the eye. Aja has special abilities (like her mother) but they scare her. Will Aja ever be able to accept her abilities (and who she is)?

Snow Globe is a good novel, but I found it a little lacking. I wanted more of the paranormal element. The novel teaches a lesson about make snap judgements about people (about perceptions based on appearances). The novel is written well and engaging. There is a lot going on in the book, but I liked how the teenagers interacted with the elderly (and that they learned from each other). I give Snow Globe 4 out of 5 stars. Snow Globe has a lovely ending that wraps up all the storylines. Snow Globe is a young adult novel, but can be read by all adults.

I received a complimentary copy of Snow Globe from NetGalley (and the publisher) in exchange for an honest review.

Book Review: Can one bad decision make ripples to send the whole Snow Globe, or Aja’s life into a whirlwind of trouble?

Snow Globe
By Jeanne Skartsiaris realSha

Snow Globe- Shake it up and see what chaos will fall. Aja Harmon is no stranger to trouble. It follows her around as her hippie mom moved her year after year following a just cause or wanderlust.

Its Aja’s senior year of high school, she just wants to graduate but finds trouble at every turn. She was working at Abercrombie & Fitch but loses her job when she sticks up for a child being abused by its mother. Having a strong moral compass she finds she makes decisions that often lead her into unintentional trouble.

When other people’s perceptions and judgments become too much, she makes a bad decision that leads her onto a path of karmic retribution.

Haunted by past situations her mother forced her into led to a police record; arrests for protesting the cause of the month. Her mother is a professional psychic complete with the sign on their front lawn. Her reputation casts a wary shadow over Aja’s life and dealings with the people of the Texas town. Aja mistakenly thinks that fleeing the state to California will end all of her troubles.

When a corrupt and mentally unstable cop preys on the troubled teens of the area Aja becomes an unwilling heroine in not only saving herself but also a group of teens. She brings to light an injustice that has been happening for years and changes the perceptions of the same people that couldn’t look past her police record before.

Snow Globe is a fantastic coming-of-age story showcasing the perspective that a teen with psychic abilities is not all what it seems. Aja shuns that part of her life, and is embarrassed by not only her mother’s profession, but her lack of normalcy. She longs to be normal like all of the other kids, but contradictorily she also knows deep down she doesn’t really want to be like them.

This story delves deep into the teenage abyss of an unknown future, finding one’s true identity and acceptance of being different than everyone else. It also discusses the consequences of one’s actions, not only through the justice system, but also within relationships. Snow Globe is entertaining, and funny, and endearing all wrapped up in a glittery round package. Any teen, or adult for that matter, will enjoy this story and root for Aja to find her happiness and finally accept who she really is.

Aja's story had me really emotional - I was happy along with her, frustrated and irritated along with her, and wholly empathized with her. That was the one of the many things I loved about this book - you felt a kinship with the protagonist. Maybe it's the underdog principle or whatever, but I couldn't help but root for Aja. Even though initially I wasn't so endeared by her (thanks to that disastrous Christopher Pike novel, Strange Girl, in which also there was a girl named Aja), I soon got over that. See, Aja is committed to doing the right thing, but the people in authority are prejudiced against her. They judge her more for her smart mouth rather than the fact that she is spewing truth from that smart mouth.

When a predatory police officer starts stalking her, people are quick to dismiss her, because of her juvie record, even though those were mostly due to peaceful protests. During all her struggles, she is still trying to care for others, like the elderly people at the retirement house she works for. She even gets in trouble because she puts them before herself. As a character, Aja is smart, level-headed and takes no shit from anyone. But when the system is working against her, she backs down and tries to find a proper way. I was honestly so irritated by the people around her, who don't even have her back. Not even that spineless Walker, whose response to when she said she is being stalked is to simply say that how about she goes home and gets rest. *facepalm* The ending fell in place too easily, in my opinion, and even if Aja did, I did not forgive those characters who doubted her. In conclusion, it was a good book, and has a bit of paranormal elements, but is mostly a contemporary like novel.

Jeanne Skartsiaris has presented a wonderful gift to the reading world--Snow Globe, a Young Adult fiction book.

I bought the book to support this local author with no intention of reading it. Rather, I planned to gift it to one of my critique partners to read since she is also a Young Adult writer. But I read the first few pages just to check out Skartsiaris’ writing style and that was it. I was hooked. I inserted a bookmark in the “adult” fiction book I was reading at the time and continued with Snow Globe.

If characters are the lifeblood of any story—and they are—then this story is due for a long life in reading libraries. Aja, the main character, is a high school student with only two goals in life: graduate from high school and move to California to start a life of independence. But the obstacles in her life are monumental: her mother’s carefree, gypsy, cause-driven lifestyle; a cop who is determined to break her spirit and body; and a boy, Walker, who models nude for a living but seems genuine in his interest in Aja.

Quite the collection of characters, right? See why I was so hooked? But that’s not all folks. There’s a cast of secondary characters who will keep you just as engaged. There’s a high school guidance counselor who is everything Aja’s mother is not. There’s a beautiful, conniving girl who refuses to acknowledge truth, and a child welfare worker who is overly dedicated to the wrong cause. So many characters, all deeply developed with goals that seem to oppose poor Aja. Combine all these lively characters with a well plotted storyline, realistic tension and a descriptive writing style and you have one book that is worth the bags under your eyes from staying up too late reading.

I won’t go into further story details and spoil the reading experience, but I do want to encourage those who poo-poo the idea of reading Young Adult fiction to give this one a try. I promise it'll be worth your reading time. But if you absolutely do not read Young Adult fiction, buy it anyway and pass it on to a niece, son or other person to enjoy. They’ll thank you.

PS: I purchased this book (new) at Lucky Dog Books, a second-life-for-books store in Dallas, Oak Cliff. Go indie bookstores!

Snow Globe had me on the edge of tears twice, first in horror of what was happening to young Aja and second at the heart touching conclusion.

Let me backup and start by saying Aja, although labeled as a juvenile delinquent, was a wonderful person whose heart and soul are pure and kind. The label of juvenile delinquent seemed to stem from a smart mouth and the tendency to skip school, nothing actually as serious as the teachers in the book made it seem.

The idea that Aja had some glimmer of sight was interesting and was sadly under utilized and not truly developed in the story. I would have love to see her come more into it than what she did, but I have a feeling if we were to revisit Aja a year from now she would be in a completely different place. She was changed drastically by her experiences in this book and it seems to be all for the better!

This book was a quick read and I struggled to put it down till toward the end. I was immediately drawn to Aja, perhaps it was the Mrs. Burnett in me that wanted to help Aja realize her potential as well!

I did struggle a bit with the rouge cop, I never understood how Aja got on his radar in the first place. I also never felt we got a good explanation how everyone got a glimpse at Aja's sealed files.

The ending felt a bit long and almost unnecessary. It seemed as though the author wanted to tie up every loose end. Typically I want to know more and almost like the feeling of wanting to continue with the character, but in this case I felt the only reason that the story was continued was to provide the a romance angle.

If you are interested in another book of this style that centers around a teen who had a similar issue with trust from adults and was blamed for things she didn't know check out Polarity in Motion.

Asa is a sarcastic, smart and hard working girl who just can't seem to catch a break. Trouble follows her around like a tail, even when she has the best of intentions. She's been arrested for protesting with her hippie, psychic mom, has moved more times than she can count, is hanging on by a thread at both school and whichever job she can keep. Add to that teachers who aren't supportive but condescending, and a police officer with an evil soul stalking her, and you can imagine the helpless frustration she must be feeling. I even let out a groan of frustration myself! Her only friend, Walker, has been supportive, to a point, but has baggage of his own.
Aja's bright spot comes where she least expects it, in a job that connects her with others, and helping out has never cost her so much! Karma's a beast, and when Aja finally sets some good into motion, it starts heading her way again.
Definitely a great story, until nearly the end, that is..I'm all for a happy ending, but this one does a 180 from the tone of the entire first three quarters of the book. Not only does Aja's life turn completely around, everyone she touched has a similar experience. It's as if Miley Cyrus turned into Snow White, it's entirely too abrupt, without a natural change, and it just doesn't fit. I do admire the idea that everyone can change for the better, and even Aja's new idea to bring the two sides of her life together to help each other, but again, it's abrupt and ultimately unrealistic to the story.
With a better ending, this would be 5 stars, I liked it that much. However, it felt as if another author stepped in and wrote the end, and I ended up feeling aggravated and cheated out of Aja's true story.

This book is truly one of the better ARC's I had read in a long time, from start to finish I pretty much was glued to these pages, goose bumps took up permanent residence on my arms. The cover alone is gorgeous, the colors are eye catching and just scream " PICK ME UP! READ. ME!" It seriously is a bonus for those who pick and choose based on the cover alone

I loved the main character Aja, who despite having had it pretty rough with life, has yet to give up. She will stand up for what she thinks is right even if it is not one of the popular opinions.

I loved that this book did not have a romance aspect it focused on. Yes it was there but it was slow and gradual, not some BOOM insta-love chick lit thing. It was a cute romance that happens every day when girls are unsure and avoid the crush and the feelings they arise, all the while wishing for just one more glimpse of him/her.

I love that you can see Aja change and grow in the pages of a book. She might start off wishing for normality but by the end of the book it is awesome to see that she has come to the realization that there really is no such thing as normality, and that is ok. I loved seeing her accept it and accept and love who her mother is.

There was only one thing I was not a fan of, and it is really a small tiny thing that it is hardly worth mentioning. After the big climax of the book, the ending seemed to take a little longer then necessary, it was as if the author was making sure she had dotted all her I's and crossed all her T's.

It was still a great book, one I would buy and read again once I forgot all about the thrills and tears.

Snow Globe is a story of a troubled young woman who is trying to figure out her life and keep her job, all the while eluding her creepy stalker. A dark and serious tone is found throughout the novel as Aja Harmon lives in constant mistreatment from the school boards, the police and her boss. They all treat her like she is a no good juvenile delinquent, and in treating her as such makes it hard for her not to be a delinquent they call her.
There was a lot of serious topics in this novel, making the overall feel of the novel darker. Story wise, Snow Globe was okay. It had some truly heart warming moments that made the characters more interesting. The best romance in this novel was not in between Aja and her love interest, but between an old married couple whose love truly lasted the ages. Plot wise, Snow Globe was a slower read. I did find it difficult to engage into certain parts of the novel. There were definitely moments that I would describe as boring to read. All in all, Snow Globe was a mediocre read and I give it the rating of TWO AND A HALF STARS OUT OF FIVE!

Aja Harmon is just trying to finish her senior year of high school, but Aja seems to attract trouble like a magnet. She and her psychic mother never stay in one place very long. Being the new girl isn't easy. She seems to be developing psychic powers of her own, but Aja just wants to be normal. Aja is extremely intelligent, but with her attendance or lack thereof, she is at risk of failing school. When Aja finds herself in the office, and decides to steal 40 dollars and run, her life is flipped upside down. With the police in pursuit everything starts to go wrong. Aja loses her job twice, lands herself in juvenile detention with criminal charges against her, finds out the boy she is interested in has a girlfriend, and has acquired her very own stalker. With very few allies and her very freedom at stake, Aja must find away to prove her innocence.|

First of all, I just want to say, WOW! I immediately connected with Aja on a profound level. The rush of emotions I felt at the hands of Jeanne is ineffable. This book sparked in me wants and desires I didn't even know I had. I lack the literary skill required to express how amazing this book is.

Two reviews from amazon.com:

- After reading Ms.

- Great book! Ms. Skatsiaris has given us a snapshot of a high school girl dealing with more life problems than most teens face. She makes us identify and cheer for a misunderstood young girl with a big heart. Honest, real, and moving. . . a page turner. Enjoy!

This book was great from start to finish! I started it late at night after finishing another book, and thought I would just read a few chapters and go to bed. I stopped reading a little after 3AM when I finished the book!

The plot was great. It was fast paced and had me rooting for Aja from the very first page. I could not believe how much could pile onto one single person and for her not to completely crack under everything! This had me in tears two or three times from all of the rollercoaster emotions Aja is put through. She at least stays true to herself and actually learns from her experience and grows as a person.

The entire book she just wished she was normal and had a normal mother. By the end she realized that there is no such thing as normal, and truly appreciates now who her mother is and starts to accept her psychic abilities.

After the climax of the story, I felt the ending took a little too long to wrap up. I did enjoy reading the aftermath and how she moved on in life, but it could have taken a chapter or two less to get there (or maybe just an epilogue).

The beauty and mystique of Snow Globe's cover grabbed my attention and wouldn't let go so I decided to read it. I wasn't sure if this book was a good fit for me but I was taken by surprise and found I really enjoyed it!

I found Snow Globe to be at times humorous, sad, loving, engaging and the thriller/suspense part had me on "the edge of my seat". All in all, a very good story! Snow Globe also reminded me that it's best "not to judge a book by it's cover" and that people are not always who and what they seem to be.

If you're into reading the author's notes as the end of the book, I highly recommend it. She has an interesting story of how she came up with the ideal of this book!

Loved this story. I had great dynamic characters and a story that drew me in and kept me engaged the entire time. I have never read any work by this author before but will certainly be looking for some now!

The story had me on the edge of my seat. A beautifully flawed and down on her luck character Aja was just he sort of vision you want to root for, the one you keep reading and hoping that things will finally go her way. This is the character I have been waiting for.

The only thing I felt dragged on a little bit was the wrap-up, it almost read like it could have been summarized in fewer words, but I did like getting to see how this character finally gets to come to terms with things and moves forward with life.

Thank you to Barclay Publicity and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to review Snow Globe.
My heart went out to Aja. Growing up with a mother that tackles and pickets for any cause worthy to her, while taking her daughter along must not have been easy. It is no wonder that Aja has difficulties at school and does not really know how to deal with conflict and other people. I finished this book at o1:48 in the morning because I could not put it down. It was so sad to see the problems that Aja and her mother faced and that they were not believed. A heartwarming story with a happy ending that also tackles a few issues as well as learning to accept who you are. I would recommend this book to YA readers and those that love a bit of supernatural thrown in for good measure.

After reading Surviving Life, also by Jeanne Skartsiaris, I anxiously awaited Snow Globe. The cover is beautifully designed. I do not usually read supernatural young adult, but Snow Globe was a fun read.

Snow Globe manages to touch upon many mature subject matters - teen romance, bullying, theft, peer pressure, generational gaps, etc. and treats all subjects realistically and respectfully. There are plenty of interesting characters to keep everyone entertained. This book would make a great gift for the teen in your life facing their own struggles.

I really enjoyed this one. The author writes well and I enjoyed all the characters. Even Mrs. Poston! I liked that all of the characters had character. The romance level was just the right amount for me and the Jensens were adorable. The only (slight) flaw I found in it was that I was expecting the psychic theme to be a little stronger than it was. All things considered though, I suppose I'd rather have it that way than have it be overbearing.

Snow Globe, Jeanne Skartsiaris. I have to say this is the best YA I have read this year! I love stories that test our own beliefs and stories that brings kids from everyday life to points where decisions must be made and what they learn from them. Add in a cop killer of teens and a retirement center, a good looking guy, and you have the perfect mix for a great book. A great read that deserves space on your shelf.

Full disclosure, I know the author. I probably would not have been aware of, much less read the book, otherwise. It was a quick read. I thought it well written. I invested in Aja (the main character) early on and read with both fear and hope as her story unfolded. I have satisfaction in having read the book and having "met" Aja. I continue to wish her the best.
