Mackenzie Cross Paranormal Mystery #2
Burn All Alike
An arsonist is burning Antioch, Georgia, one site at a time, eerily parallel to the Big Burn of ’45 that destroyed most of the town. Distracted by her burgeoning and unsettling ability to see the unquiet dead, Mackenzie Cross realizes almost too late that she may be able to find the real cause of the fires.
With the help of her girlfriend, Sheriff Veronica Birdwell, Mackenzie delves into shameful World War II secrets: an internment camp, murder and jealous vengeance that has separated two lovers, even in death. Journeying ever more deeply into the mysteries of the lands of the dead, this time Mackenzie might not be able to come back.

I liked this less than the first one.
I mean Mackenzie and Veronica were great as usual and the storyline with fraud and arson was interesting, but I'm sorry to say the vengeful spirits weren't nearly as cool. And this time it wasn't because I was scared of ghosts. I was just bored by it.

Another 4.5* for me.
Lots of things going on. I like that. It's never boring. The lead is in your face with a smart mouth. I like the style, and I liked the story. If there was a book three I would buy it right now and start reading.

I don't like anger issues, so the many unlikable "discussion" between Mac and her ex or Mac and her brother's ex or Mac and her brother's ex lawyer almost put me out.
A firebug ravages Antioch and Mac is on it. There is no mystery here. Only a very sad background story, morbid and fiery.
I rounded the 2.5 stars to 3 because it still reads nicely.
Because despite the angers issues, Mac is still a funny character.
Her physical description and my mental representation are completely askew though.
She is supposed to be a small and skinny woman, I keep seeing a not-to-small rounded one. Must be the strength of her personality .... or maybe her diet?
