Penny Ashmore is a not-so-normal seventeen-year-old, who just wants to finish high school, go off to college, and fall in love. However, that plan goes out the window when her dad takes a job as the caretaker of a magical estate.

After moving to Westridge, a town owned by a dragon and run by the fairy queen, Penny meets Dorian and Sebastian, who happen to be cousins. Both of them fall for her, but she only has eyes for one.

However, when Penny’s own physical state begins to change, secrets come out about her past. She is informed by the fairy queen that she is actually a Dragon Princess and was created for one purpose: to stop evil creatures called the Heartless, and their puppet, the Destroyer.

Penny wrestles to keep her own identity, but in the end, she knows that it’s no use fighting the inevitable. She will take her place as the Dragon Princess and lead the battle against the Heartless and the Destroyer, hoping she will be able to save the creatures of Westridge, and the boy she has come to love.

This book was free on Kindle, so I jumped on it. I am a "judge a book by the cover" kind of person. Love the cover! Very mysterious. I wish I could have had a physical book, but couldn't find one.
--REVIEW-- After moving to Westridge, Penny finds out that it's really a magical estate, that houses every kind of fantasy creature that you can imagine. Even zombies. lol. She meets two cousins: Dorian and Sebastian, who fall desperately in love with Penny. In the meantime, Penny finds out from the Fairy Queen, that her ancestors were designed with one purpose in mind: to stop the evil creatures called the Heartless and their puppet, the Destroyer. Love the characters in this book. On top of that, she has to decide between the two gorgeous guys, in the midst of her body changing into a creature.
I was hooked when I read the prologue, but the first chapter slowed down. After that, it really drew me in and I couldn't put it down. I read it in two days. lol. Five stars.

This Twilight-esque romance was great! Two guys, one girl. Don't know if that will die down anytime soon, but the story was fun to read and had a lot of interesting characters. I liked Clive, the cyclops, the most. He was quirky and very sarcastic, which is one of my favorite things in a book. The main character wasn't your typical "I'm plain, and there is nothing special about me." She's a kick-ass kind of girl, which I would rather read about. She doesn't take no, very well, for an answer. And she would rather save the guy, instead of the other way around.
I loved the setting. It's a now-a-day town, with all the modern conveniences, with a fairytale feel. It reminds me a lot of the television show, Once Upon A Time. So if you're into that show, this book is for you. I liked how the bad guy (girl) was partially able to come through to the end and not be bad anymore. All except for one part (I don't want to spoil this for anyone) everyone pretty much comes out on top.
Wish there was a hard copy of the book. I hear rumor that the author is going to have a paperback available soon. I will probably get it, to add to my collection.
Going to read Cinder next. It looks stinking awesome! Four stars for Phoenix.

*Warning* A hint of spoilers.
Took some time while it was snowing outside, to sit down and finish this book. I enjoyed it a lot.
Penny is a snarky girl that moves to the town of Westridge, meets two cousins, and finds herself becoming a phoenix. The cousins, Dorian and Sebastian, are intriguing. I have read all of the reviews so far, and have to agree with most, that Sebastian is my favorite. He's funny and has that bad boy sarcastic wit. He reminds me a little of Damian in Vampire Diaries. Dorian is loveable, but he gets on my NERVES! I can't stand a guy to be so possessive. My favorite part of the book was when Dorian was supposed to spend the night with Penny. Things couldn't have gone more wrong...dragon eats friend, girl hates dragon, dragon loses girl. I'm cheering for Sebastian to get the girl.
This book was left wide-open for a sequel. I see that by the question asked of the author, that there will be a sequel. Yay!

Is is bad to be in love with a character in a book? lol. Loved Sebastian. He is so bad, but sooo good. Can't wait to see if he wins Penny's hand in book two. Don't know if there will be a book two, but I'm hopeful.

I received a copy of this in exchange for review.

I feel like a crazy person. This book has several great reviews, but I can't understand why. It was the cliche "new girl moves to town, everyone falls in love with her, finds out she's a Super Special Snowflake" YA novel. Maybe the other reviewers don't read much YA and so aren't familiar with the fact that this story has been told hundreds of times already. Here are some of the unbelievable parts, picked at random:

"Did my history teacher just wink at me? Gossamer called the role and then began teaching. He walked the aisles while talking, just as he did yesterday, but when he got to my seat, he stopped and raked my hair off my shoulder, like he was running his fingers through my hair. I looked at him, puzzled by his action. Just as he was about to do it again, Dorian grabbed his hand, twisted it and brought him to his knees. A low rumble came from somewhere deep inside Dorian’s chest. Immediately, everyone jumped to their feet and moved out of the way. I jumped to my feet and got behind Gossamer’s desk. Dorian’s eyes were solid black, and fangs were beginning to protrude from his snarled mouth."

Yes, even the teacher hits on Ms. Perfect. Of course, this brings out the rest of the testosterone-filled boys in the classroom.

At the 6% mark, it's already TWU WUV!

“I have already made my interest in you known to the others. They are to keep their hands off.”

This is her reaction to seeing a mythical creature for the first time, something she's never believed in before that moment:

"I was speechless. I was having a hard time believing what I was seeing. Wyverns are supposed to be a myth. But there it stood, right before me. No, there he stood. Sebastian. I looked again at his face. It was beautiful, yet terrifying at the same time. This time, it was me that closed the distance. I walked back over to him, so I could get a better look at his face. I touched it all over, even his fangs."

Of course. I see something with black scales and fangs and my first instinct is to touch those fangs! Not to mention, she's completely fine and making future date plans by the end of the night. Very unrealistic. She has a very similar reaction to being told that she's the born-once-every-300-years ALLLLL POWERFULLLLLL Dragon Lord.

“Now you’ve done it!” I said. “There’s Dorian, and he is going to be so mad that you are here. The night is ruined. Thanks, Sebastian.”

Well, STOP LEADING THEM BOTH ON. PICK ONE, FFS.

Also, it was insanely easy to tell who the "evil" opposite of the Dragon Lord was. In fact, I actually was a bit surprised at the end because I said way at the beginning, "No, there's no way it's that obvious. I'm sure it's someone else." Nope. It was her.

Maybe I'm being too harsh, but I'm just tired of the same formulaic YA novels being published.
